A step-by-step route for an Orc warlock in WoW Forever up to level 30: Durotar with its new Forever quests, the Barrens, Stonetalon, the Eastern Kingdoms, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles. The guide covers when to take the class quests for the Imp (Summon Imp), the Voidwalker (Summon Voidwalker) and the Succubus (Summon Succubus), which DoTs to use and how to almost never wait on mana (Life Tap saves you), where to get a staff and a wand, which professions to pick and what a warlock brings to a group.

Addons
What to install from CurseForge for Forever: the useful and the fun
Maps inside dungeons:Dungeon Crawler Forever shows floors, passages, bosses and quests. Open it with /dm. Its data changes with the beta: double-check quest requirements in game. More conveniences, screenshots and highlight commands - in the useful addons guide.
How to install. In the CurseForge app, add the game with the “+” button and point it to your Forever client folder - a Forever tab appears. Manually on the beta: the _classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns folder. Addons for regular Classic won't work - you need a file marked Forever (1.60.1). ★ - our pick.
Already in the game - no addon needed: coordinates on the map and minimap (turn them on in the settings), quest objectives on the map (the “Enhanced” template at first login, or the quest objectives option), a damage meter, a swing timer, the Cooldown Manager, one combined bag, an equipment manager and a modern auction house. Not in the game: a threat meter, markers for quests you haven't picked up yet, and a /way command.
Quests and map
★ Questie - who gives quests and where the objectives are, on the map and minimap. It still lacks some of the new Forever quests.
★ TomTom - an arrow to a point. The coordinates on this site copy as a /way command for it.
★ Leatrix Maps - reveals unexplored parts of the map, shows dungeon entrances, and the map can be enlarged.
Forever Quest Tint - tints the text of new Forever quests, so you see at a glance what's new.
Conveniences
★ Leatrix Plus - auto quest turn-in, junk selling, repairs, fast loot and dozens of small things. There's a separate version for Forever.
★ Baganator - proper bags and bank: the built-in combined bag can't be moved. A similar one - Bagnon.
★ Auctionator - posts auctions quickly, remembers prices and shows them in tooltips.
★ Platynator - draws neat bars above mobs and marks the ones you need for a quest. Very handy while leveling.
Professions
★ GatherLite - herbs, ore and fish on the map: it already ships with more than 26 thousand points made for Forever.
GatherMate2 - the same, but it only remembers points as you gather them yourself.
For fun: voiceover and dialogue
★ Spoken - English voiceover for quests, books and zones. On the Forever forums it gets the most praise: “like an audiobook”. More in the addons guide.
★ Immersion - movie-style NPC dialogue instead of the usual quest window.
Optional
Details! or ThreatClassic2 - threat in dungeons: the built-in damage meter doesn't show it.
Easy Experience Bar - experience per hour and how much is left to the next level.
Dungeon Journal - dungeon quests and loot: Forever has no dungeon journal of its own.
WeakAuras has no Forever version; use the fork ForeverAuras instead (it can do what the built-in Cooldown Manager sees).
For mail, instead of Postal try Forever Mail: recipient picker, mail history and attachment lists. More in the general addons guide.
Zygor and ElvUI aren't installed through CurseForge.
Combat “helpers” that do calculations are banned in Forever, as in the modern game: addons may display, but not calculate.
For warlocks
Soul Shards Forever - Soul Shards don't stack in Forever, and this addon keeps them in order: it shows your shard count on the bag button, moves them into your soul bag and deletes the extras above your limit with one key (not in combat). Set the limit with /ssf setmax 6, delete an extra one with /ssf delete or the macro /click SSFDelete. Forever only (file 1.60.1 from October 13).
Shard Grid - your shards in a grid, like in a bag, and an alert when you have fewer than five. From level 20 it helps with summoning: it collects “summon me” requests from chat into a list, tracks who has your soulstone and puts Minor Healthstone into the trade window. Settings - /shards. Forever file 1.60.1 from October 12, no dependencies.

Leveling talents
Builds for 10–30: which one to pick and in what order to spend points
Your first talent point comes at level 10, then one per level: 21 points by level 30. Not sure what to pick? Go “Affliction: DoTs and Wand” - every beta guide recommends it (Warcraft Tavern, Method, Mobalytics). Demonology is sturdier - on the beta forums people call it the most reliable tree - but it only gets going around 25; Destruction is for dungeons. A warlock trainer in a capital resets your talents, for example Zevrost in Orgrimmar. Hover a talent for its Wowhead tooltip; the button at the bottom opens the build in the Wowhead calculator with the same order.
Affliction: DoTs and Wandmain21 / 0 / 0The classic warlock leveling setup: the Voidwalker holds the mob, DoTs kill it, the wand finishes it off. The core matches the Warcraft Tavern and Method builds.
At 30:Siphon Life - one more DoT, and it heals you.
Cons: the first 5 points at 10–14 are barely noticeable. One beta tester suggests taking Suppression first if your demon keeps losing threat - that order works too.
After October 15: the old DoT damage talent was replaced by Grim Reach with two ranks. At 27 put the rest into Suppression, at 28–29 take Improved Drains; the order below is updated.
Affliction: Drain Lifesturdy21 / 0 / 0Less eating and more mobs at once: Drain Life heals you while your demon holds a second mob. The core comes from Warcraft Tavern (“drain-tank the mob”) and Mobalytics.
Cons: drains are expensive on mana - people on the beta forums argue about it. If you can't keep up, reset to “DoTs and Wand” at a trainer in a capital.
Demonology: Demon Up Frontsafe0 / 21 / 0A stronger, sturdier Voidwalker and fewer deaths; Soul Link at 30. Slower start: Method says the tree “comes online late”.
At 30:Soul Link - your demon takes 30% of the damage dealt to you. You take Demonic Sacrifice at 20 only to unlock it: don't sacrifice your demon when you're solo.
Cons: less damage than Affliction before 20. Use Searing Pain only from 25, once you have Demonic Brand: before that it pulls threat off your demon.
Destruction: For Groupsdungeons0 / 0 / 21Faster spells and bigger crits - for leveling through dungeons or with a partner. Harder solo: Warcraft Tavern says this tree means standing still and casting.
The orc and troll starting valley · the Imp from a class quest, the Den and Burning Blade Coven
0 of 15
All the quests are around the Den: grab them in a batch, do them in one loop, turn them in as a batch. About 40 minutes to level 5–6. The big thing for a warlock here is the Imp: you get it from the class quest Vile Familiars[4], not from the trainer. The general quest for 12 familiars that Zureetha Fargaze gives other classes won't be offered to you - you get this one instead.
Don't forget in this section
The valley's warlock trainer Nartok only teaches up to level 6. After that - Dhugru Gorelust in Razor Hill and the trainers in Orgrimmar.
Galgar's Cactus Apple Surprise[3] rewards a gathering profession book. A warlock wants Enchanting (your own wand) and Tailoring. You only need the book if a friend will make your wands (step).
◈ Loot along the way
Don't sell the boar meat: you'll learn Cooking in Razor Hill (step), and in Forever food gives +5% experience. Sell the rest of your gray items to a vendor.
➶ Level faster
Until level 10 death costs almost nothing: no “Resurrection Sickness”, you just lose a little durability. Getting from the Coven back to the Den is faster with a death run.
The Imp can't hold anything, so mobs hit you - keep the Demon Skin buff up at all times. On the plus side, it shoots on its own (Firebolt): send it at the mob first, then cast your own spells.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Cutting Teeth” and “Wayward Weapons”

Around the Den: Mottled Boars - 10 of them, Cutting Teeth[2]. Abandoned training weapons lie on the ground all over the valley - 6 of them, Wayward Weapons[2].

Summon the Imp and keep it out. The demon trainer Hraug stands next to the warlock trainer: according to the game files he has Grimoire of Blood Pact (Rank 1)≈ 1 (from 4) - the Imp learns Blood Pact, and you get Stamina. Whether grimoires are actually sold on the beta hasn't been checked - take a look.
The cave is cramped and the mobs stand close together: pull one at a time from the edge while the Imp shoots. Back to the Den with a “death run”: before level 10 it costs almost nothing.

Ukorsbane is an elite level 8 spider by the road to Razor Hill. It starts Ukor's Lost Pack[8], but you can't handle it yet: you'll come back for it at 9 (step).
The centaurs walk in pairs - fight at the edge of the camp: Imp and DoTs on one, leave the second alone. According to RestedXP, Pal'juh isn't always in her spot: if she's not there, don't wait.
Durotar's main town · the warlock trainer and the demon trainer · Kul Tirans on the coast

Razor Hill is your base until level 12: here you have the warlock trainer and the demon trainer, an inn and almost all the quests of the north. Set your hearthstone here.

Linen Cloth from the Kul Tirans - for Linen Bandage: First Aid is taught by Rawrk . Extra cloth goes to the Orgrimmar auction house or into Tailoring.

From level 8 - Fear: fear the second mob, finish the first, then DoTs on the second. Only if the area is clear: a feared mob runs wherever it likes and brings its neighbors.
Bane of Agony is new in Forever: a “bane” instead of a curse, 72 damage over 24 seconds for 25 mana - your most mana-efficient spell. It stacks with a curse: Bane of Agony and Curse of Weakness on the same target. Not level 8 yet - you'll learn it at 10 (step).

Zalazane stands surrounded by trolls - lure them out one at a time and kill him last. On the island the trolls stand close together: Fear only as a last resort here. The pendants only drop while A Pain in the Neck[8] is in your log.

Orgrimmar is on your way: the flight path, the level 12 trainer, staves, the new Forever city quests and two chains that one trip to Skull Rock right outside the gates takes care of: Hidden Enemies[12] and Creature of the Void[11] - the tablet for the Voidwalker. So you visit the city twice: before Skull Rock and after it - that's when you summon and subdue the demon.
A wand is a warlock's main weapon until 30: you finish mobs off without spending mana. Lesser Magic Wand (from 5) and Greater Magic Wand (from 13) are made by enchanters - look on the auction house, ask a friend or make one yourself (step). Gazz'uz is level 14, casts spells and stands right by the stash. Clear the cave on the way in so there's nothing behind you. How to fight him: full health and mana, Minor Healthstone in your bag; Bane of Agony, Corruption, Immolate, the Imp shoots; at half health - Fear and DoTs again while he runs. You don't have the Voidwalker yet - don't take on two at once.
How to do this quest - Hidden Enemies
The insignia doesn't drop from the first mob: plan on about 15 minutes and kill every Burning Blade in the cave in a row.
The summoning circle in the Cleft of Shadow : use Glyphs of Summoning there and a level 10 Voidwalker appears. Defeat it - The Binding[11].
It can take a lot of punishment but hits weakly: Bane of Agony, Corruption, Immolate, the Imp shoots, and you finish it with Shadow Bolts. Start at full mana.
The summon costs a Soul Shard. The Voidwalker keeps mobs on itself: send it in, let it land 1–2 hits (it uses Torment on its own) and only then apply DoTs - otherwise the mob comes for you. Don't open with Immolate. No more Imp when you're solo: you need it in a group, where Blood Pact gives everyone Stamina.

Stonetalon is the first contested zone on the route: on PvP realms your flag turns on here by itself. Against a melee fighter - DoTs first, then Fear: the DoTs keep a rogue from slipping back into stealth.
She's level 20, casts spells and calls harpies for help: clear the ones standing nearby first. Your demon holds her, you apply DoTs; if a harpy comes running to help, Fear it.

Orgrimmar and the southern Barrens: the start of the Succubus chain
Your level 18 and 20 spells, Cazul and Zankaja, Camp Taurajo, the Field of Giants and the elite Chol'aruk
0 of 11
At 20 the trainer teaches seven spells at once, including Demon Armor and Curse of the Elements, and Gan'rul Bloodeye starts the Succubus chain: eight quests through Orgrimmar, the Crossroads, Malaka'jin and Camp Taurajo. Every stop is on the route, and you get the Succubus itself at 22. First a short flight to Orgrimmar, then clear the Barrens up to 21: Camp Taurajo, the Field of Giants, the elite Chol'aruk (only with a partner). Keep your hearthstone at the Crossroads.
Chol'aruk the Ravener[21] - Chol'aruk (level 20 elite) with elite guards, Wrongly Blamed, Justly Corrected[23] - an elite level 23 marauder. With a partner you'll finish both quickly; solo at 20–21 you have almost no chance even with the Voidwalker: no partner - take neither of them.
Going to both Shadowfang Keep (23–24) and Blackfathom Deeps (28) with a group? Take The Orb of Soran'ruk[25] (step): the fragments only drop while the quest is in your log.
Tusks, heads and adornments only drop while you have the quests - take everything at Taurajo and the Crossroads before you go hunting.

The demon trainer Kurgul : according to the game files - Grimoire of Consume Shadows (Rank 1)≈ 15 (18) and Grimoire of Torment (Rank 2)≈ 20 (20). Both are for the Voidwalker: the first heals it out of combat, the second makes it hold mobs better. Don't put off Grimoire of Torment (Rank 2): according to Warcraft Tavern, the old rank only holds threat for about 5 levels after the new one comes out.
Cloth from the Bristlebacks and Razormane goes into Wool Bandages or Tailoring. Don't sell the Blood Shard from Bristlebacks: Mangletooth gives you a Spirit buff for them (step).
➶ Level faster
At 20, switch the Demon Skin buff for Demon Armor: more armor and faster health regeneration, and for you health is mana through Life Tap. Keep it up at all times.
The southern Barrens rares - Humar the Pridelord (level 23 elite) and Takk the Leaper: they drop pieces of the same set with +5% run speed. If you see one, don't walk past.
⚔︎ PvP
Chol'aruk is a target for the Alliance too - they have their own version of the quest. If someone else is hanging around his camp, they're not necessarily on your side: it may be an Alliance player with the same quest. On PvP realms in the Barrens it's the Alliance player who gets flagged, not you.
Arathi Basin will most likely open at 20 only at launch: on the beta, according to testers, only the new battleground from 30 works.
⌂Turn in 3 quests, pick up 13 new ones and visit your trainer
Cazul also offers Love Hurts[20] - the start of the Incubus chain. Don't take it now: its target is in Ashenvale at 27–28, and you can also pick it up at 22 (step).
Wrongly Blamed, Justly Corrected[23] has an elite level 23 marauder and level 22–23 Alliance soldiers: solo at 20–21 you have almost no chance. The Orb of Soran'ruk[25] rewards Staff of Soran'ruk: +34 Shadow and Fire damage and +14 Stamina, the best weapon on the route. If you won't have a group for both dungeons, don't take it: the quest will sit in your log until 30.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Chol'aruk the Ravener”, “Ishamuhale”, “Tribes at War” and 4 more
◎
➜≈ 500 yards east · ~1 min on foot
Northeast of the Crossroads, if you took the quest: Chol'aruk with elite guards - his head for Chol'aruk the Ravener[21]. Ishamuhale doesn't roam: while you have the quest, any zhevra drops a fresh carcass - use it at the withered tree and he comes running. The fang - Ishamuhale[19].
Drops from:Chol'aruk's Head - Chol'aruk
Chol'aruk is a level 20 elite, and so are his guards: only with a partner. Didn't work out? Abandon Chol'aruk the Ravener[21]: the quest doesn't unlock anything. Ishamuhale hits hard: the Voidwalker holds him, you use DoTs and your wand, with a Minor Healthstone ready.
How to do this quest - Chol'aruk the Ravener
The lair is a cave, entrance . Inside are level 18–20 elites, but they're spread out: go around them along the edge and you'll reach him with almost no fights. He has about 5.5k health.
The quest marker points to the Wetlands - that's a beta bug, he's in the Barrens.
Drops from:Bristleback Quilboar Tusk - Bristleback Hunter, Bristleback Water Seeker, Bristleback Thornweaver and others
The rare elite Swinegart Spearhide fears everything around him - go around. Bristlebacks walk in twos and threes: the demon holds one, the second gets Bane of Agony and Corruption; if a third one runs up - Fear, but only if nothing is behind it. Kill the Geomancers first: they cast from range.
How to do this quest - Lakota'mani
Lakota'mani is a big gray-pink kodo west of the road north of Taurajo. The blue beast east of the road is Owatanka, that's a different quest.
Silithid Swarmers summon a pile of small critters - kill the Swarmers first, before the little ones pile on. According to a beta report, the soldiers respawn slowly - if you meet another player on this quest, invite them to your group. The marauder too tough? Abandon Wrongly Blamed, Justly Corrected[23]: at 29 you can solo him (step). Stepping Stones[24] leads to Stonetalon - you'll turn it in there.

Spiders and goblins stand close together here: Fear almost always brings the neighbors. Put DoTs on the second mob while your demon fights the first, and finish the last one with a Drain Soul channel - you'll soon need shards for the Succubus and a Minor Healthstone.
⚔︎ PvP
Stonetalon is a contested zone: on PvP realms your flag turns on here by itself. The Alliance from Stonetalon Peak quests at Windshear Crag - on the same goblins as you.
The hatchlings can call a level 22 matriarch: the demon holds her, you use DoTs and your wand. Arachnophobia[21] rewards the staff Clear Crystal Rod (the name says “Rod”, but it's a staff; +14 spell power).
Two rare elites roam here - a Venture Co. overseer and a foreman. Go around them. If the goblin dies, the quest fails: abandon Gerenzo's Orders[22] and take it again when he's back. Doesn't work the second time either? Abandon it and later turn in only Super Reaper 6000[21]. While you guard the goblin, put the Voidwalker on Defensive: let it meet the attackers while you DoT (Bane of Agony, Corruption) everyone who runs at the goblin.
How to do this quest - Gerenzo's Orders

The Incubus is the same sayaad (the name for the Succubus and the Incubus together): the abilities and talents are shared, only the look differs. The chain gives about 3.7 thousand experience and one more Small Soul Pouch. The scarf for Wish You Were Here[27] drops in Ashenvale (at 27–28), and you turn it in right here at 28. The zeppelin lands in Tirisfal, next to Undercity. Here you get your hearthstone, the Shadowfang Keep quest and the trainers for 24 and 26. Dungeons are done in a group of five: no group - don't take The Book of Ur[26], or the quest will just sit in your log. You'll take the Ruins of Lordaeron quests right before the run (at 24). Skipping the Ruins hurts a warlock: Gnarled Necromancer's Staff from The Wrath of Rath'mael[22] is the best solo staff for this stretch. Without a group you'll fall about 2 levels behind (an estimate from beta data: dungeon quests at 22–29 are worth about 75 thousand experience): western Ashenvale, the southern Barrens and the backup quests in Thousand Needles (step) cover part of it, and you make up the rest with mobs along the way. On the plus side, you can gather the group yourself: Ritual of Summoning summons one player to you (it takes you and two more people at the portal).

After that it all depends on a group for the Ruins of Lordaeron: if you have one, fly from the Sepulcher to Undercity (step); if not, go from the Sepulcher straight to Hillsbrad (step): you'll learn your level 24 spells in Undercity at 26, and turn in The Book of Ur[26] there too if you did the keep (step).

The quests here are level 21–22, and dungeon quests in Forever give 2–3 times the experience of normal ones, so this is one of the most rewarding stops in 20–30. The main prize here for a warlock is Gnarled Necromancer's Staff from The Wrath of Rath'mael[22]: a staff with +26 spell power and +10 Spirit. No group for the Ruins? Go from the Sepulcher straight to Hillsbrad (step): you'll turn in The Book of Ur[26] and learn your level 24 spells in Undercity at 26 (step).
The Alliance has quests in the Ruins of Lordaeron too - their groups run across all of Tirisfal to the gates of Undercity. This is your land with guards nearby: on PvP realms it's their flag that's up, not yours.
Corruption is the important one. Rank 1 Drain Soul also gives a shard and costs less - keep it on your action bar. You don't need Sense Demons and Drain Mana for leveling. Grimoire of Suffering (Rank 1) teaches the Voidwalker Suffering: it pulls mobs within 10 yards of it off you, but the cooldown is 2 minutes. Not 24 yet? Tarren Mill versus Southshore is the classic faction war. In Forever the Alliance quests here from 21 to 30 and goes to the town hall in Hillsbrad Fields - the same place where you kill the farmers. That's where they catch you, while you're busy with a footman. Keep a Lesser Healthstone and a soulstone on you.
On the beta a chase often breaks off at a zone border: the player jumps into another layer of the world and vanishes. Running away - run for the border; chasing - don't follow across it.
According to beta data, the exact spot where Deathstalker Masoj stands is still being confirmed - follow the quest marker. South of the vantage point, in Dun Garok itself , there are level 28–30 dwarves, and the riflemen shoot from range: approach the vantage point from the north and don't go down.
How to do this quest - Scout Support
According to a tester's comment, the quest only opens after the second “Battle of Hillsbrad” (level 25): if High Executor Darthalia doesn't offer it, turn that one in and ask again. Deathstalker Masoj himself stands alone on a hill north of Nethander Stead .
The peaks, according to testers' comments: on the hills above Dun Garok , on the plateau above Durnholde , and above the yeti cave , not inside it. Level 33 mountain lions roam by the third one - approach carefully.
Drops from:Vial of Innocent Blood - Syndicate Shadow Mage
The Syndicate stands close together - pull one at a time from the edge and don't use Fear here. The Shadow Mages cast from range: send the Voidwalker at the mage and put your DoTs on him too - he'll come to you on his own.

How to do this quest - Stonetalon Standstill
Just walk under the gazebo roof - you don't need to click anything.
Je'neu of the Earthen Ring[27] rewards the cloak Soft Willow Cape (+5 Intellect). No Zoram'gar flight path? It's about an 8–10 minute walk (an estimate); give Astranaar a wide berth: the Alliance guards will attack.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Between a Rock and a Thistlefur”, “Troll Charm” and “Freedom to Ruul”

How to do this quest - Troll Charm
In the cave the mobs stand in twos and threes and respawn quickly - watch your back. The charm chests respawn quickly too: you can circle one hall.
The furbolgs come two or three at a time: the Voidwalker holds them, you put DoTs on all of them. Before the fight - a soulstone on yourself and a Lesser Healthstone in your bags; if you bought Grimoire of Suffering (Rank 1) at 24, Suffering (2-minute cooldown) pulls everything off you for one wave.
How to do this quest - King of the Foulweald
First kill the furbolgs around the mound. Then stand on the mound and use the banner from your bags.
After the banner, two always come, and Chief Murgut appears on a timer, not after they die. Don't waste cooldowns on the first two.

Half the dungeon is underwater: watch your breath bar and fight in the water only near air bubbles. Unending Breath (16, if you learned it) lets you and your group breathe underwater. The naga priestesses and oracles heal: put Curse of Tongues on them. Twilight's Hammer cultists are humanoids: Seduction puts one to sleep.
Baron Aquanis[30] rewards Witch's Finger for your off hand (+4 Stamina, +8 Intellect) if you fight with a dagger; with a staff - whatever sells for more.

Turning in the Stonetalon and Ashenvale quests - and something new in Forever: in northwestern Mulgore, above Thunder Bluff, an Earthen Ring camp on Skywatcher Plateau. Three level 30 quests, about 2.5 thousand experience each, mobs 27–29.
Don't forget in this section
The Broodmother[31] is an elite level 31 spider: group only. No group? Don't take it - the quest doesn't unlock anything.
For Blackfathom Villainy[27], take Gravestone Scepter: a wand with 29 damage per second, +3 Spirit and +6 Shadow damage - the best wand up to 30 and beyond.
Thunder Bluff has two elevators - on the southwest and northeast sides. The plateau is northwest of the bluff: take either one down and go around the bluff (which elevator is closer hasn't been checked yet).
New in Forever
⚔︎Questing loop: “Defending the Dead”, “Stronger than Steel”, “Talkin' bout Toxins, Mon” and “The Broodmother”
The spiders come in twos and threes: pull from the edge, the Voidwalker holds one, DoTs on all of them; if you bought Grimoire of Suffering (Rank 1) at 24, Suffering pulls the extras off you, but only once every 2 minutes. Between packs - Life Tap and food.
The Broodmother[31] rewards Transformative Cocoon: it absorbs damage and stuns you for 5 seconds, then gives +60% speed for 8 seconds. Good for escaping.

Back to Thunder Bluff by the same elevator. Tal: fly to Camp Taurajo.
If your level 29 experience bar is less than half full, do the southern Barrens first (roughly 15 thousand experience), otherwise Thousand Needles may not be enough to get you to 30.
+34 Shadow and Fire damage and +14 Stamina - stronger than anything else you get before 30. Take the off-hand Orb of Soran'ruk only if you fight with a dagger.

lvl 29–30
Southern Barrens and Razorfen Kraul (optional)
Razormane camps, Bael Modan, a dungeon
0 of 7
About 15 thousand experience near Taurajo, on the way to Thousand Needles. Useful if you're short of 30 or you've got a group for Razorfen Kraul.
Set your hearthstone at Freewind Post: it brings you from Orgrimmar straight back here, to the 30+ quests (step).
⚔︎ PvP
Thousand Needles is contested, but the Alliance has almost no quests here until 30+, so you can relax a bit. Stranglethorn Vale comes next, and there everyone fights everyone.
Neither reward from The Sacred Flame[29] is for you - take whichever sells for more.
★
Not 30 yet? Make it up right here: Cliffwatcher Longhorn now gives Grimtotem Spying[28] - three Secret Notes in crates at Darkcloud Pinnacle , in the Grimtotem tauren camp. Elu gives Wind Rider[29] - 10 Highperch Wyvern Eggs at Highperch in the west .
Both quests are turned in to whoever gave them. Grimtotem Spying[28] rewards Desert Shoulders: cloth, +5 Intellect and +5 Spirit.
lvl 30
Orgrimmar: level 30 spells
The level 30 trainer and, optionally, the start of the Felhunter chain
0 of 5
The closest warlock trainer to Thousand Needles is in Orgrimmar: there are none in Ratchet or Thunder Bluff. From Freewind Post - fly to the city, train and hearth back. Set aside about 4 gold for your level 30 training.
Don't forget in this section
The Felhunter is a 30–33 chain: Seeking Strahad[30] leads to Ratchet, where Strahad Farsan gives Tome of the Cabal[30], then Undercity, chests in Hillsbrad and Thousand Needles and wands from the Dragonmaw clan in the Wetlands. That's the next part of the guide; you don't need the Felhunter for leveling - it's for PvP and groups.
⚔︎ PvP
Level 30 - battlegrounds. On the beta the new battleground Darkspear Islands, 15 vs 15, opens at 30. The battlemasters in the capitals queue you, and there's also a portal in the Darkspear Raiders camp north of Ratchet . Testers complain about getting feared straight into the water with the sharks - your Fear works the same way there.
Against a priest: Fear Ward eats one of your Fear casts - fear them a second time.

Freewind Post, Nyse : fly to Orgrimmar. Ran Razorfen Kraul and have the heart for A Vengeful Fate[34]? First fly to Thunder Bluff: Auld Stonespire - turn in ?A Vengeful Fate[34], then on to Orgrimmar.
Seeking Strahad[30] leads to Ratchet: there Strahad Farsan gives Tome of the Cabal[30] - the start of the Felhunter chain. You can't finish it right away; it's already part of 30+. Not planning on it? Don't take it.

What's next (30+): the rest of Thousand Needles, Ordanus[29] → The Den[29] in Stonetalon, the Shimmering Flats, Hillsbrad and Arathi, “Excavation Site: Wetlands” and the Scarlet Monastery; for a warlock - the Felhunter (Seeking Strahad[30] and on). That will be the next part of the guide.

Dungeons: what to pick up in advance
Quests offered far from the entrance, and what a warlock brings to a group
In Forever, experience from dungeon mobs is lower, while dungeon quests give 2–3 times the experience of normal ones (even after the beta bonus was cut in half). Going in without quests makes little sense - collect them in advance, but not earlier than needed: quests “for later” clog your log. In a group a warlock brings damage plus utility nobody else has: healthstones, a soulstone on the healer and, from 20, summoning.
Warlock in a group: the short version
Curses, crowd control, stones and summoning
Before you go in: a healthstone for everyone - Minor Healthstone, from 22 - Lesser Healthstone (one shard per stone, and they can be handed over), from 18 - a soulstone (Create Soulstone) on the healer. Your demon is the Imp: Blood Pact gives Stamina to the whole group; from 22 - the Succubus for damage.
A bane and a curse on the same target - new in Forever. Bane of Agony on the boss, and pick the curse for your group: Curse of Recklessness (14) - lots of melee, Curse of the Elements (20) - lots of casters (+4% magic damage), Curse of Weakness - the boss hits the tank hard, Curse of Tongues (26) - a caster boss. Two warlocks in the group? Agree with the other one: identical curses don't stack.
Threat: give the tank 2–3 hits, then DoTs. Searing Pain generates a lot of threat. Use Life Tap, but not down to zero: restore your health yourself with Drain Life, not with the healer's mana.
Crowd control: Fear only to save the healer, and warn the group first: a feared mob brings the next pack. Banish (28) holds a demon or elemental, the Succubus's Seduction (grimoire at 26) - a humanoid.
Summoning: Ritual of Summoning (20) - you and two more players at the portal, costs a shard. Meeting stones in Forever don't summon anyone - you're the only quick way to gather the group at the entrance.
In a group, set the Imp to Passive: on Aggressive he pulls packs on his own.
Ragefire Chasm
13–18 · Orgrimmar, Cleft of Shadow · at 16 on this route
Blackfathom Villainy[27] rewards Gravestone Scepter: a wand with 29 damage per second and +6 Shadow damage. It's worth gathering a group at 27–29 just for it.
What to train, which demon to use and how to keep your mana up - up to level 30
What changed in Forever:Bane of Agony is now a bane - you can keep one bane and one curse on a target at the same time. Life Tap gives (30 + Spirit) mana at rank 1, so Spirit is now your stat. Rank 1 Drain Soul hits for 85 (was 55), and a shard can come from any tick. Curse of the Elements comes at 20 (was 32) and affects all magic damage. Create Healthstone heals for 120 (was 100). Demons scale with your stats. Only Ritual of Summoning summons players: meeting stones don't. Wands don't scale with spell power (according to the September 24 beta notes).
How to level. The Voidwalker holds the mob, you kill it from range. Send in the demon, let it land 1–2 hits, then Bane of Agony, Corruption, and Immolate on a mob that will live a while; after that, use your wand while the DoTs tick. Shadow Bolt is expensive: cast it when you have mana to spare or when Nightfall (talent) procs. Low on mana but above half health - Life Tap, right in combat, while the demon holds the mob. Finish the last mob of a pack with a channeled Drain Soul - a free shard. From 14, Drain Life tops up your health; after a fight - food. A second mob - DoTs on it and Fear while you finish the first, but only if there's nothing else nearby.
Horde warlock trainers: Nartok in the Valley of Trials (up to level 6), Dhugru Gorelust in Razor Hill, Zevrost , Grol'dar and Mirket in Orgrimmar, Kaal Soulreaper in Undercity. There are no trainers in the Barrens, Ratchet or Thunder Bluff. Demon trainers (grimoires): Hraug in the valley, Kitha in Razor Hill, Kurgul in Orgrimmar. At Wowhead prices, all training comes to about 20 up to 10, about 274 up to 20 and about 1376 up to 30, without a reputation discount.
Demons
Which one to use and what to buy for them
Summon Imp (1–4, quest Vile Familiars[4]): ranged damage, can't hold anything. From 10 - only in groups: Blood Pact gives everyone Stamina.
Summon Succubus or Summon Incubus (20, quests): hits much harder but holds threat worse. One mob, and you top up your health with a channeled Drain Life - the Succubus; several mobs or an elite - the Voidwalker. Seduction (15 seconds of humanoid control) - only if you bought Grimoire of Seduction at 26.
Summoning the Voidwalker or a sayaad costs a shard. While you summon a new demon, the old one is stunned - swapping demons mid-fight is pointless (according to the October 8 beta notes).
DoTs and rotation
Damage per point of mana (Forever tooltips)
Bane of Agony: 72 damage over 24 seconds for 25 mana - your most efficient spell. Its damage ramps up toward the end: don't waste it on a mob that will die in under 10 seconds.
Corruption: 40 damage over 12 seconds for 35 mana, from 14 - 65 over 15 seconds. Always apply it.
Immolate: upfront damage plus a burn - for a mob that will live a while. Don't open with it before the demon has used Torment: the mob will come for you.
Shadow Bolt: three times as expensive per point of damage as the bane. Cast it when you have mana to spare or when Nightfall procs.
Life Tap: (30 + Spirit) mana per cast, from 16 - (75 + Spirit). Use it while you're above half health and the demon is holding the mob. In Forever, Spirit on gear means mana.
Drain Life (14): 10 health per second for 5 seconds, 20-yard range. Getting hit can interrupt the channel - keep the mob on your demon.
Between fights - food, not water: it restores the health you'll turn into mana and gives +5% experience (Forever). Bandages don't cost mana either.
Health Funnel heals your demon with your own health: at 20, healing the Voidwalker to full takes about a minute (a tester's measurement). Got a shard? Summoning a new one is faster.
Shards, stones and bags
How many to keep and where to find room
Drain Soul gives a Soul Shard if the mob dies during the channel; in Forever every tick has a chance, and it grows after each empty tick. The mob has to give experience.
Shards don't stack: each one takes a slot. Keep 3–6 (demon, Minor Healthstone, soulstone, a spare), plus one more from 20 for Ritual of Summoning. Delete the extras.
Minor Healthstone (10): 120 health, from 22 - Lesser Healthstone for 300. 2-minute cooldown, only one in your bags. Used it? Make a new one after the fight. According to Warcraft Tavern, it doesn't share a cooldown with potions.
Soulstone (Create Soulstone, 18): resurrection with 400 health and 700 mana. Put it on yourself before an elite or a risky quest.
Conjured stones disappear if you log out for more than 15 minutes.
It helps when: a second mob joins the fight, your demon died (DoTs, fear, wand while the mob runs), your health is running out (fear and a bandage or a healthstone).
A feared mob runs anywhere - into the next pack - and comes back with it. It's the main reason warlocks die while leveling: don't fear near camps, in caves or near guards.
Damage to a feared mob can break the fear early. Fear doesn't work on a target with Curse of Recklessness on it.
In a dungeon - only to save the healer, and warn the group first.
Wand and gear
Cloth, a staff, a wand
Your wand is your most important item before 30. The path: Lesser Magic Wand (from 5), then Greater Magic Wand (from 13, 17.5 damage per second) - an enchanter makes them, and if you don't know one, check the auction house; without them - Flaring Baton from The Escape[18], or Gloom Wand (from 16) and Dusk Wand (from 20, 17.7) from Katis , according to the game files. After that: Charred Wand from Dangerous![28] in Hillsbrad at 26 (22.2 damage per second) and Gravestone Scepter from Blackfathom Villainy[27] in Blackfathom Deeps at 29 (29 damage per second, group); without a group - Combustible Wand (from 29, 25.9). With a group, earlier - Sizzle Stick from Wailing Caverns.
Stats: spell power (Shadow if you level as Affliction or Demonology; Fire as Destruction), then Stamina and Spirit, then Intellect. If you level as Affliction, don't chase hit: Suppression covers your misses. The other builds don't take this talent, so hit on gear won't hurt there.
Blood Fury - +10% attack power and spell power for 15 seconds, 3-minute cooldown, no healing penalty: use it on elites and in PvP together with your DoTs.
Hardiness - stuns are 20% shorter: good against rogues.
Shatter Curse (new) - removes all curses and banes with no immunity afterward, 5% less magic damage taken for 8 seconds, 3-minute cooldown: your answer to an enemy warlock.
Since October 15, orcs get +1% critical strike chance with any weapon, spells included. Don't pick a weak axe just for the racial bonus.
Orcs no longer have a demon damage bonus in Forever: the old racial for pet damage was removed (according to Warcraft Tavern). On October 8 Blizzard said the active orc and troll racials may be too strong and promised changes - the numbers may change.
22–28, optional: the Incubus - Love Hurts[20] → Wish You Were Here[27] → The Binding (step); the scarf drops in Ashenvale from level 25–27 mobs. Same abilities, a different look; whether the two chains are mutually exclusive hasn't been checked.
30: the Felhunter - Seeking Strahad[30] (Gan'rul Bloodeye, Orgrimmar, step) leads to Ratchet, where Strahad Farsan gives Tome of the Cabal[30]; then three more quests through Undercity, Hillsbrad, Thousand Needles and the Wetlands. That's work for 30–33 and the next part of the guide.
Talents 10–30
4 builds with a talent tree and the order by level
The main one is “Affliction: DoTs and Wand”: instant Corruption by 14, Nightfall by 26, Siphon Life at 30. There's also “Affliction: Drain Life”, “Demonology” and “Destruction” for groups.
All builds, the tree and the point order are in the “Leveling talents” section.
⚒︎
Professions and camping
What to take, where to learn it and what to collect - up to level 30
Advice for a warlock: Enchanting + Tailoring, plus First Aid and Cooking. Enchanting means your own wand: Lesser Magic Wand at skill 10, Greater Magic Wand at 70. Tailoring uses the cloth that drops from humanoids anyway: your own cloth gear, bags (shards take up room) and items to disenchant for Enchanting. That's what Method, Warcraft Tavern and beta testers recommend. If a friend is an enchanter who'll make you a wand, take gathering professions for money: Herbalism and Skinning.
New in Forever: according to the game files, enchanting supply vendors carry Lesser Magic Essence and Strange Dust - in Orgrimmar, Kithas ; stock is limited. Check on the spot whether they sell them on the beta; if they do, buy some every time you're in town.
The wand binds when equipped: a friend can make it and pass it to you - it only binds once you put it on.
For a warlock: the tailoring banner gives Spirit - and in Forever, Spirit decides how much mana Life Tap gives (according to Warcraft Tavern); the first aid kit gives Stamina.
Sit by any campfire for a minute, even someone else's - you get a buff for an hour.
Cooking and First Aid
In Forever any cooked food gives +5% experience from kills for 15 minutes - always eat. A warlock needs food more than water: it's food that restores the health Life Tap took.
In Forever, First Aid also makes healing potions. Bandages: Linen Bandage from linen, from skill 40 - Heavy Linen Bandage, then wool ones. Bandages don't cost mana.
What to collect
Linen Cloth at 1–20, Wool Cloth at 20–30 - from humanoids: for Tailoring and bandages, sell the extra at the auction house.
Meat goes into Cooking; sell gray items to a vendor at every stop.
Money
A warlock needs money early: training up to 20 is about 274, at 20–30 about 11 gold more if you learn everything (the essentials are about 9), plus about 2 gold for grimoires. What you can skip is noted in the trainer steps.
Don't buy Imp grimoires after 10: you won't need him solo anymore. The Voidwalker grimoires are what matter (see the “Warlock” section).
Sell gray items at every stop, and cloth and herbs at the Orgrimmar auction house. Aim for about 10 gold saved by level 30, then save up for riding: at 40 it will most likely cost about 100 gold, as in Classic.

What's new in Forever
Only what matters for this route
Beta data (build 1.60.1, as of October 13, 2026, beta level cap 30): the Wowhead Forever database, Blizzard's article on the rogue and warlock (October 7), the beta notes, the Questie database and the RestedXP route for Forever. Things may change before the November 4 launch.
What stayed the samebeta data
The old Durotar, Orgrimmar and Barrens quests are all still there, with the same coordinates, and the experience needed per level hasn't changed.
The Orc Warlock class quests are the same as in Classic: the Imp from Vile Familiars[4], the Voidwalker from The Binding[11], the Succubus from The Binding[20], the Felhunter from The Binding[30]. Forever adds no new quests for the Orc Warlock.
No new flight paths for the Horde in 1–30. The hearthstone is once an hour.
The 20–30 class quests are the same as in Classic: the Succubus, the Incubus (added back in Classic Era) and The Orb of Soran'ruk[25].
Warlock in Foreverofficial
Banes: Bane of Agony is now a bane, so you can keep one bane and one curse on a target at the same time - for example, Bane of Agony and Curse of Recklessness. Rank 1 damage is 72 instead of 84.
Life Tap: (30 + Spirit) mana at rank 1 - Spirit is now a warlock stat. Rank 1 Drain Soul - 85 damage (was 55), with a shard chance on every tick.
Curse of the Elements - from 20 (was 32), affects all magic damage: +4% damage and -30 to resistances. Create Firestone (28) is now a weapon enchant.
Demons scale with your stats. Aggressive mode came back on October 1. Summoning players - only Ritual of Summoning: meeting stones don't summon.
Casters are weaker overall: wands don't scale with spell power (according to the September 24 beta notes), and low ranks get less from spell power (according to the October 1 beta notes). Testers complain that 6–10 is the hardest stretch, but once you have the Voidwalker and Drain Life, downtime almost disappears.
A new racial, Shatter Curse (against curses and banes); the pet damage bonus is gone. Details in the “Warlock” section, “Orc Warlock” card.
PvP and rulesetsofficial
Rulesets to choose from: “Normal” - PvP only if you want it (/pvp); “PvP” - your flag turns on by itself in contested and enemy zones; “RP” - same as Normal.
Horde territory on the 1–20 route: Durotar and the Barrens. Contested: Stonetalon (from 18), then Hillsbrad, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles.
Battlegrounds: Warsong Gulch from 10, Arathi Basin from 20, the new Darkspear Islands (15 vs 15) from 30. On the beta, according to testers, only the level 30 battleground is open.
For a warlock: against melee fighters - DoTs first, then Fear. Against an enemy warlock - Shatter Curse. Before a zone where people gank - a soulstone on yourself.
Experience and conveniencesofficial
Cooked food gives +5% experience from kills. There are camp buffs too - from a campfire, a tent and a sleeping bag.
Dungeon quests give 2–3 times the experience of normal ones.
There's no automatic dungeon finder - only the bulletin board, and meeting stones don't summon.
The Legacy system: account-wide bonuses unlock once your first character reaches 25.
Playing with friends who share a language? Pick your preferred language in the settings: you'll land in the same world layer as its speakers more often.

Tips and common mistakes
The hearthstone, dangerous mobs, what not to forget
1 - the Valley of Trials. Around 7.5 - Razor Hill: you won't need to move it for northern Durotar and Orgrimmar. Around 12.9 - the Crossroads, until level 22.
Around 22.8 - Undercity: hearth there from Hillsbrad for the trainer and the zeppelin. Around 27.5 - Splintertree Post: from Zoram'gar back to the Foulweald. Around 29.7 - Freewind Post: from Orgrimmar back to Thousand Needles.
For short distances - a death run. Almost free until level 10, from 11 - “Resurrection Sickness” and -25% durability. A soulstone on yourself saves you the run back from the graveyard.
Stonetalon: Grimtotem casters, the elite Besseleth (without a partner - at 27), rare Venture Co. elites at Windshear Crag, Sorrow Wing and Sister Riven.
Fear next to another pack: the feared mob brings its neighbors.
Life Tap down to zero mid-fight: use it while you're above half health and the demon holds the mob.
Shadow Bolt as your main attack: your mana runs out in two mobs. DoTs are cheaper.
Opening with Immolate before the Voidwalker has used Torment: the mob comes for you.
Putting off the Voidwalker: 10–12 becomes just as hard as 6–10.
The last mob wasn't finished with a Drain Soul channel: no shards for your demon and stones. And the opposite: a bag full of shards - no room for loot.
Health Funnel instead of a new demon: a minute of healing versus a 10-second summon.
