A step-by-step 1–30 route for an Undead warlock in WoW Forever: where to go at every level and what to grab right away so you never run back. You get the Imp in Deathknell, the Voidwalker in Undercity at 10 and the Succubus at 20–22 via Orgrimmar and the Barrens. Plus where to learn your spells, which DoTs to use, how to get by with almost no water (Life Tap gives you mana), where to get a wand, which professions to pick and what a warlock brings to a group.

Addons
What to install from CurseForge for Forever: the useful and the fun
Maps inside dungeons:Dungeon Crawler Forever shows floors, passages, bosses and quests. Open it with /dm. Its data changes with the beta: double-check quest requirements in game. More conveniences, screenshots and highlight commands - in the useful addons guide.
How to install. In the CurseForge app, add the game with the “+” button and point it to your Forever client folder - a Forever tab appears. Manually on the beta: the _classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns folder. Addons for regular Classic won't work - you need a file marked Forever (1.60.1). ★ - our pick.
Already in the game - no addon needed: coordinates on the map and minimap (turn them on in the settings), quest objectives on the map (the “Enhanced” template at first login, or the quest objectives option), a damage meter, a swing timer, the Cooldown Manager, one combined bag, an equipment manager and a modern auction house. Not in the game: a threat meter, markers for quests you haven't picked up yet, and a /way command.
Quests and map
★ Questie - who gives quests and where the objectives are, on the map and minimap. It still lacks some of the new Forever quests.
★ TomTom - an arrow to a point. The coordinates on this site copy as a /way command for it.
★ Leatrix Maps - reveals unexplored parts of the map, shows dungeon entrances, and the map can be enlarged.
Forever Quest Tint - tints the text of new Forever quests, so you see at a glance what's new.
Conveniences
★ Leatrix Plus - auto quest turn-in, junk selling, repairs, fast loot and dozens of small things. There's a separate version for Forever.
★ Baganator - proper bags and bank: the built-in combined bag can't be moved. A similar one - Bagnon.
★ Auctionator - posts auctions quickly, remembers prices and shows them in tooltips.
★ Platynator - draws neat bars above mobs and marks the ones you need for a quest. Very handy while leveling.
Professions
★ GatherLite - herbs, ore and fish on the map: it already ships with more than 26 thousand points made for Forever.
GatherMate2 - the same, but it only remembers points as you gather them yourself.
For fun: voiceover and dialogue
★ Spoken - English voiceover for quests, books and zones. On the Forever forums it gets the most praise: “like an audiobook”. More in the addons guide.
★ Immersion - movie-style NPC dialogue instead of the usual quest window.
Optional
Details! or ThreatClassic2 - threat in dungeons: the built-in damage meter doesn't show it.
Easy Experience Bar - experience per hour and how much is left to the next level.
Dungeon Journal - dungeon quests and loot: Forever has no dungeon journal of its own.
WeakAuras has no Forever version; use the fork ForeverAuras instead (it can do what the built-in Cooldown Manager sees).
For mail, instead of Postal try Forever Mail: recipient picker, mail history and attachment lists. More in the general addons guide.
Zygor and ElvUI aren't installed through CurseForge.
Combat “helpers” that do calculations are banned in Forever, as in the modern game: addons may display, but not calculate.
For warlocks
Soul Shards Forever - Soul Shards don't stack in Forever, and this addon keeps them in order: it shows your shard count on the bag button, moves them into your soul bag and deletes the extras above your limit with one key (not in combat). Set the limit with /ssf setmax 6, delete an extra one with /ssf delete or the macro /click SSFDelete. Forever only (file 1.60.1 from October 13).
Shard Grid - your shards in a grid, like in a bag, and an alert when you have fewer than five. From level 20 it helps with summoning: it collects “summon me” requests from chat into a list, tracks who has your soulstone and puts Minor Healthstone into the trade window. Settings - /shards. Forever file 1.60.1 from October 12, no dependencies.

Leveling talents
Builds for 10–30: which one to pick and in what order to spend points
Your first talent point comes at level 10, then one per level: 21 points by level 30. Not sure what to pick? Go “Affliction: DoTs and Wand” - every beta guide recommends it (Warcraft Tavern, Method, Mobalytics). Demonology is sturdier - on the beta forums people call it the most reliable tree - but it only gets going around 25; Destruction is for dungeons. A warlock trainer in a capital resets your talents, for example Kaal Soulreaper in Undercity. Hover a talent for its Wowhead tooltip; the button at the bottom opens the build in the Wowhead calculator with the same order.
Affliction: DoTs and Wandmain21 / 0 / 0The classic warlock leveling setup: the Voidwalker holds the mob, DoTs kill it, the wand finishes it off. The core matches the Warcraft Tavern and Method builds.
At 30:Siphon Life - one more DoT, and it heals you.
Cons: the first 5 points at 10–14 are barely noticeable. One beta tester suggests taking Suppression first if your demon keeps losing threat - that order works too.
After October 15: the old DoT damage talent was replaced by Grim Reach with two ranks. At 27 put the rest into Suppression, at 28–29 take Improved Drains; the order below is updated.
Affliction: Drain Lifesturdy21 / 0 / 0Less eating and more mobs at once: Drain Life heals you while your demon holds a second mob. The core comes from Warcraft Tavern (“drain-tank the mob”) and Mobalytics.
Twice as handy for the Undead: after a fight, Cannibalize at a humanoid or undead corpse tops up your health too.
Cons: drains are expensive on mana - people on the beta forums argue about it. If you can't keep up, reset to “DoTs and Wand” at a trainer in a capital.
Demonology: Demon Up Frontsafe0 / 21 / 0A stronger, sturdier Voidwalker and fewer deaths; Soul Link at 30. Slower start: Method says the tree “comes online late”.
At 30:Soul Link - your demon takes 30% of the damage dealt to you. You take Demonic Sacrifice at 20 only to unlock it: don't sacrifice your demon when you're solo.
Cons: less damage than Affliction before 20. Use Searing Pain only from 25, once you have Demonic Brand: before that it pulls threat off your demon.
Destruction: For Groupsdungeons0 / 0 / 21Faster spells and bigger crits - for leveling through dungeons or with a partner. Harder solo: Warcraft Tavern says this tree means standing still and casting.
The undead starting village · the Imp from a class quest
0 of 20
Every quest is within five minutes' walk. Step out of the crypt, take everything in sight and do it all in loops - about 40 minutes. The key thing for a warlock here is the Imp: you don't get it from the trainer but from the class quest Piercing the Veil[3], already at level 1–3. Until you have the Imp, combat is simple: Shadow Bolt from range, a second one while the mob runs at you, then finish it with your weapon. Sell your gray items - the first thing you learn is Immolate for 10.
Don't forget in this section
Take Piercing the Veil[3] right away in the church: the skulls drop from the same skeletons as in Rattling the Rattlecages[3], but only while the quest is in your log.
The reward for Marla's Last Wish[5] is a gathering profession book. You only need it if an enchanter friend will make your wands: then pick Herbalism. Making wands yourself? You need Enchanting and Tailoring, and the book won't be any use.
Meven Korgal (the Scarlet courier) - leave him alone until you have The Red Messenger[5], or you'll have to wait for him to respawn.
When you turn in The Red Messenger[5], the Executor gives you the new quest The Adventurer[6] - it leads to the camp near Brill and unlocks the camping system.
◈ Loot along the way
Don't sell the Linen Cloth from the Scarlet Crusade: if you take Tailoring (the tip is in the “Professions” section), it's the material for your first gear; if not, it goes into bandages.
➶ Level faster
The zombies and the Scarlet Crusade around the village are undead and humanoids: after a fight, Cannibalize at a corpse restores up to 35% health and mana over 10 seconds, once every 2 minutes. Less sitting means faster leveling.
The Imp can't hold anything, so mobs hit you - keep the Demon Skin buff up at all times. On the plus side, the Imp shoots on its own (Firebolt): send it at the mob first, then cast your own spells.
Drops from:Scavenger Paw - Young Scavenger, Ragged Scavenger · Duskbat Wing - Duskbat, Mangy Duskbat, Belfry Bat
Mangy Duskbats hit harder than the normal ones - better go around them. Not every skeleton drops a skull: if you've killed 12 and have fewer than three skulls, keep going.

Summon the Imp and keep it out. The demon trainer Kayla Smithe stands nearby: according to the game files she has Grimoire of Blood Pact (Rank 1)≈ 1 (from 4) - the Imp learns Blood Pact, and you get Stamina. Whether grimoires are actually sold on the beta hasn't been checked - take a look.
Professions: the best pair for a warlock is Enchanting and Tailoring - Tailoring is taught in Brill (step), Enchanting in Undercity (step). The junior trainers here only teach gathering: Margaret Weaver - Skinning, Walter Mason - Mining, Florence Nightshade - Herbalism, 10 each.
Only take a gathering profession if an enchanter friend will make your wands (the “Professions” section explains why).

Night Web's Hollow to the northwest: 10 Young Night Web Spiders at the entrance and 8 Night Web Spiders in the cave - Night Web's Hollow[4]. While there, free 6 Webbed Victims from their cocoons - A Light in the Darkness[4].
The spiders in the cave stand close together: the Imp shoots one, you put DoTs on it. Don't pull two at once.

The fastest way back is a “death run”: die and resurrect at the spirit healer - the graveyard is right by the village. It's free until level 10, and every speed guide does it.

Before you leave: if you hit level 6 here - Maximillion: Life Tap and Shadow Bolt (rank 2), 1 each. Not 6 yet? You'll learn them in Brill (step).
Life Tap turns health into mana - in Forever, (30 + Spirit) per press. Below half mana but above half health? Press it, and top up your health with food and with Cannibalize at corpses: you'll hardly ever need to drink.
The follow-up, a duel with him (A Rogue's Deal[5]), is optional.

Brill and western Tirisfal
The zone's main town · the warlock trainer and the demon trainer · almost ten new Forever quests
0 of 22
Brill is your base until level 12. The idea is simple: in town take everything you can, loop west or north, and come back to turn it all in at once. The warlock trainer Rupert Boch and the demon trainer Gina Lang are in the inn.

Do The Great Outdoors[6] and Camping 101: Cooking[6] right away: in Forever, food with the “Well Fed” effect also gives +5% experience, so you want Cooking from the very start.
Sticks and Bones[7] gives a free 6-slot bag - no need to buy the pouch from the vendor.
Accept Hides for the Forsaken[11]before you fight the darkhounds, duskbats and murlocs: the quest hides only drop while the quest is in your log.
The demon trainer Gina Lang in the inn: according to the game files - Grimoire of Firebolt (Rank 2)≈ 1 (from 8), so the Imp hits harder. From 10 you only need the Imp in a group - don't buy any more Imp grimoires.
◈ Loot along the way
Duskbat wings (Meaty Bat Wing) → Crispy Bat Wings: food that in Forever also gives +5% experience from kills.
Cloth goes into Tailoring or bandages; sell the extra at the Undercity auction house.
➶ Level faster
Until level 10 death is free: no “Resurrection Sickness”, just a little durability loss. Running back from the graveyard to turn in is faster than walking - die without fear.
Eat, don't drink: Life Tap turns health into mana, and food brings the health back. In Forever, cooked food with “Well Fed” also gives +5% experience from kills for 15 minutes - eat it for 10 seconds.

How to do this quest - Sticks and Bones
The branches are barely visible: thin sticks by groups of trees that blend into the grass. Move your mouse around - over the right one the cursor turns into a gear.
Three branches lie by the grove and respawn in about 30 seconds - you can just stand there.
Bane of Agony is new in Forever: a “bane” instead of a curse, 72 damage over 24 seconds for 25 mana - your most mana-efficient spell. It stacks with a curse: Bane of Agony and Curse of Weakness on the same target. Fear goes on the second mob while you finish the first, but only if the area is clear: a feared mob runs wherever it likes and brings its neighbors.

Undercity: the Voidwalker
The Voidwalker chain, a wand and your hearthstone
0 of 10
Undercity is a stone's throw from Brill. The main thing here for a warlock is the Voidwalker: Carendin Halgar in the Magic Quarter gives and takes the quests, the grimoire is in a chest by the Scarlet tower, right next to the sewer pipe, and you summon the demon in the summoning circle near him. The chain is for the Undead only: orcs have their own. Undercity also has Enchanting and the auction house, if you still don't have a wand.
Don't forget in this section
You need at least one Soul Shard: without it you can't summon the new demon (step).
The Voidwalker is the biggest leap in your leveling: beta testers call 6–10 the hardest stretch, and with the demon your downtime almost disappears. Don't put the chain off.
A wand (Shoot) costs no mana. A fight with the demon goes like this: send it in, let it land 1–2 hits, then Bane of Agony and Corruption - and use your wand while the DoTs do their work.
⚔︎ PvP
At launch Warsong Gulch opens from level 10 (10 vs 10, bracket 10–19): queue with Kurden Bloodclaw . On the beta only the new battleground from 30 works so far.
➜
➜≈ 750 yards southwest · ~1.5 min on foot
Enter Undercity through the sewer pipe - it's closer than the main entrance. Leave the Scarlet tower nearby alone for now: you'll be back in a couple of minutes with the grimoire quest.
Wand: Lesser Magic Wand (11 DPS, level 5) - at the auction house or from an enchanter friend. If you take Enchanting, you can make it yourself at skill 10 (step).
Vendor wands (according to the game files) start at level 15: Zane Bradford , at 14–15.
Drops from:Scarlet Insignia Ring - Scarlet Warrior, Scarlet Missionary, Scarlet Zealot and others
Zealots and Missionaries are humanoid casters standing close together: Imp and DoTs on one, Fear on the second, but only if nothing is behind it. Finish the last mob with a Drain Soul channel - you need a Soul Shard for the demon.
The summoning circle nearby : use Runes of Summoning and a level 10 Voidwalker appears. Defeat it - The Binding[10].
It can take a lot of punishment but hits weakly: the Imp shoots, you apply DoTs - Bane of Agony, Corruption, Immolate - and finish it with your wand. Start at full mana and health, with a Minor Healthstone in your bag.
Class
↩Head back: turn in 2 quests and pick up 1 new one
The summon costs a Soul Shard. The Voidwalker keeps mobs on itself: send it in, let it land 1–2 hits (it uses Torment on its own) and only then apply DoTs - otherwise the mob comes for you. Don't open with Immolate. No more Imp when you're solo: you need it in a group, where Blood Pact gives everyone Stamina.
Innkeeper Norman : set your hearthstone in Undercity - from Silverpine it takes you straight to the turn-ins, the trainers and the zeppelin. Then on to Brill.

Eastern Tirisfal
The guard post near Undercity, Balnir Farmstead, the Argent Dawn
0 of 12
You wrap up Tirisfal. Head to Silverpine no earlier than level 12: in Forever the main Sepulcher quest, Prove Your Worth[10], is now offered from 12.
Finish the last mob of each pull with a Drain Soul channel - that's how you stock up on shards. Every Voidwalker summon costs a shard, and so does a Minor Healthstone. Keep 3–4; you don't need more yet.
Health Funnel transfers your health to the demon - expensive and slow. If you have a Soul Shard, it's easier to summon a new demon.

0 of 5
A brand-new piece of Tirisfal: a keep, Shadowvale and a crypt with an elite monster. The experience per minute is lower than on the main route, so come here if you're short of level 12 - or just for the story.
Don't forget in this section
You took Bandarion Keep[13] at the guard post - the keep doesn't start without it.
Take only what's near the Sepulcher, then hearth to Undercity. Leave the far quests (Ambermill, Fenris Isle) for 20+. New in Forever: Prove Your Worth[10] starts at level 12, and Wild Hearts[11] needs only 3 hearts.
Don't forget in this section
Don't sell the Discolored Worg Hearts - you need them for Wild Hearts[11]. It's a normal item, so you can collect them in advance.
The Ruins of Lordaeron quest at the Sepulcher (A Frightened Request[22]) is only offered from level 15 - you'll take it when you come back here at 20+.
If a mob will live less than 10 seconds, don't waste Bane of Agony on it: the bane does most of its damage toward the end. For a mob like that - Corruption and your wand.
From level 11 death brings Resurrection Sickness, but a short one: (level − 10) minutes and −25% durability. If all that's left is turning in quests at the Sepulcher, dying still pays off: the sickness doesn't stop you from turning in quests.

Turn-ins, level 14 spells, a vendor wand, the zeppelin
0 of 6
Turn in everything you've collected, learn your level 14 spells in the Magic Quarter and, if you have a group, pick up the Ragefire Chasm quest. Then take the zeppelin to Orgrimmar.
Drain Life heals you while your demon holds the mob: while leveling it's like a second food. Curse of Recklessness keeps humanoids from running for help, but a target with it can't be feared: Fear won't work on it. Better First Aid - Mary Edras : Heavy Linen Bandages (skill 40) and Journeyman (50).
The zeppelin tower near Brill has two zeppelins. Zapetta sends you to Orgrimmar - that's yours. Hin Denburg sends you to Grom'gol (Stranglethorn Vale) - not that one.
Not sure? Talk to the zeppelin master: he'll tell you where his zeppelin goes. Wait on the side of the platform where that master stands - a zeppelin arrives every couple of minutes.

Orgrimmar is on your way to the Barrens. The Cleft of Shadow is the warlock district: trainers, the demon trainer and the entrance to Ragefire Chasm. Have a group of three to five? Now is the time for the Chasm (13–18): you already have its quest from Undercity, and the chain rewards the best staff before level 20.
Don't forget in this section
The insignia (Hidden Enemies[12]) drops from the Burning Blade at Skull Rock - right next to the zeppelin tower.
Warlock trainers in the Cleft of Shadow: Zevrost , Grol'dar and Mirket - they all teach the same.
The demon trainer Kurgul : according to the game files - Grimoire of Sacrifice (Rank 1)≈ 12 (from 16), Sacrifice for the Voidwalker: it dies, you get a 30-second shield, and damage doesn't interrupt your spells. Your panic button when a fight goes wrong.
Hanashi : Staves (about 10) - if you're going to Ragefire Chasm: the quest Hidden Enemies[16] rewards Staff of Orgrimmar (+18 spell power). Without a group, the staff can wait until 21–22.
Check your skills window for the weapons you already know: according to Warcraft Tavern, a warlock starts with Daggers and Wands.
Drops from:Spells of Shadow - Searing Blade Cultist, Searing Blade Warlock · Incantations from the Nether - Searing Blade Cultist, Searing Blade Warlock
For a warlock: in a group, bring the Imp instead of the Voidwalker - Blood Pact gives everyone Stamina. Before you go in - a Minor Healthstone for you and the healer. Give the tank 2–3 hits, then DoTs. Fear only to save the healer: a feared mob brings the next pack.
How to do this quest - Slaying the Beast
Pull the boss off the stone bridge first: he knocks you up into the lava, and that's instant death.
There's no warlock trainer or demon trainer in the Barrens: you'll learn your level 18 spells together with the level 20 ones in Orgrimmar (step).
◈ Loot along the way
Plainstrider and beast meat goes into Cooking; Tari'qa at the Crossroads sells the recipes. Wool from the centaurs and the Razormane - for Tailoring or Wool Bandages.
➶ Level faster
The Razormane walk in pairs: your demon holds one, the other gets Bane of Agony and Corruption - let the DoTs work while you finish off the first.
⚔︎ PvP
The Barrens are Horde land: on PvP realms your flag doesn't turn on here by itself, but any Alliance player's does. Still, the Crossroads are a classic raid target: a crowd in blue at the gate - check their levels first, then play the hero.
Attacked by a rogue or a warrior? DoTs first, then Fear: the DoTs keep a rogue from slipping back into stealth. Will of the Forsaken removes fear, sleep and charm from you, but in Forever it no longer gives 5 seconds of protection afterwards.

The Succubus chain at the Crossroads, Camp Taurajo, the Field of Giants and the elite Chol'aruk
0 of 9
Clear Kalimdor until level 22: there are still plenty of quests of your level here, and the Succubus chain takes you through these same places anyway - the Crossroads, Malaka'jin, Camp Taurajo and back to Orgrimmar. Keep your hearthstone at the Crossroads.
Don't forget in this section
The Succubus chain goes one quest at a time, and every stop is on the route: the Crossroads (step), Malaka'jin (step), Camp Taurajo and Dogran (step), Orgrimmar again (step). No special trips needed.
Chol'aruk the Ravener[21] - the elite Chol'aruk (level 20) with elite guards: better with two. According to beta data, this quest gives triple experience.
Going to both Shadowfang Keep (24–25) and Blackfathom Deeps (28–29) with a group? Take The Orb of Soran'ruk[25] (step): the fragments only drop while the quest is in your log.
Heads, tusks and adornments only drop while you have the quests - take everything at the Crossroads and Taurajo before you go hunting.
◈ Loot along the way
Cloth from the Bristlebacks and Razormane goes into Wool Bandages or Tailoring. Don't sell the Blood Shard from Bristlebacks: Mangletooth gives you a Spirit buff for them (step).
➶ Level faster
From 20 your permanent buff is Demon Armor: more armor and faster health regeneration, and Life Tap later turns that health into mana. Don't forget to refresh it.
The Barrens rares Humar the Pridelord (level 23 elite) and Takk the Leaper drop set pieces: two of them give +5% run speed in the Barrens and Stonetalon. If you see one, don't walk past.
⚔︎ PvP
Chol'aruk is a target for the Alliance too: they have their own version of this quest. Someone hanging around his camp isn't necessarily on your side. On PvP realms in the Barrens it's the Alliance player who gets flagged, not you.
Arathi Basin will most likely open at 20 only at launch: on the beta, according to testers, only the new battleground from 30 works.
The reward for The Orb of Soran'ruk[25] is Staff of Soran'ruk: +34 Shadow and Fire damage and +14 Stamina, stronger than anything else you get before 30. If you won't have a group for both dungeons, don't take it: the quest will sit in your log until 29.

Bristlebacks walk in twos and threes: the Voidwalker holds one, the second gets Bane of Agony and Corruption; if a third one runs up - Fear, but only if nothing is behind it. Kill the Geomancers first: they cast from range. The rare elite Swinegart Spearhide fears everything around him - go around.
How to do this quest - Lakota'mani
Lakota'mani is a big gray-pink kodo west of the road north of Taurajo. The blue beast east of the road is Owatanka, that's a different quest.

Drops from:Chol'aruk's Head - Chol'aruk
Chol'aruk is a level 20 elite, and so are his guards. Hard alone: bring a friend or come back for him at 22 (step). Ishamuhale hits hard: the Voidwalker holds him, you use DoTs and your wand, with a Minor Healthstone ready.
How to do this quest - Chol'aruk the Ravener
The lair is a cave, entrance . Inside are level 18–20 elites, but they're spread out: go around them along the edge and you'll reach him with almost no fights. He has about 5.5k health.
The quest marker points to the Wetlands - that's a beta bug, he's in the Barrens.
Fly to the Crossroads, Gur'ak: turn in ?Chol'aruk the Ravener[21]. The reward is the dagger Quilboar Toothpick (+16 spell power): if you don't have a staff from Ragefire Chasm or Wailing Caverns, take it, and put something with Intellect in your off hand.
According to Warcraft Tavern, a warlock knows Daggers from the start - check your skills window. Chol'aruk still too tough? Don't abandon the quest: you'll come back for him at 22 (step).

Stonetalon is the first contested zone on the route: on PvP realms your flag turns on here by itself. The Alliance from Stonetalon Peak quests at Windshear Crag - on the same goblins as you.

Two rare elites roam here - a Venture Co. overseer and a foreman. Go around them. If the goblin dies, the quest fails: abandon Gerenzo's Orders[22] and take it again when he's back. Doesn't work the second time either? Abandon it and later turn in only Super Reaper 6000[21]. While you guard the goblin, put the Voidwalker on Defensive: let it meet the attackers while you DoT everyone who runs at the goblin.
How to do this quest - Gerenzo's Orders

Turn-ins in Ratchet, then Camp Taurajo: here Grunt Logmar is the next step of the Succubus chain, and Grunt Dogran waits a bit to the north. Then on foot through Mulgore to Thunder Bluff: the quest The Elder Crone[18] leads from there all the way to Tarren Mill. There are no warlock trainers in Thunder Bluff - you'll learn your level 22 spells in Orgrimmar on the way to the zeppelin (step).

You're carrying Dogran's pendant: Gan'rul Bloodeye takes it and gives you the last quest of the chain, and you summon the Succubus in the summoning circle in the Cleft of Shadow. The summon costs a Soul Shard. Small Soul Pouch has 14 slots for shards only: put them all there. According to Warcraft Tavern, the soul bag goes into the separate reagent bag slot - check in game: that would free up a normal bag slot.
The Incubus is the same sayaad as the Succubus: the abilities are shared, only the look differs. The chain gives about 3.7 thousand experience and one more Small Soul Pouch. The Withered Scarf drops in Ashenvale (at 28), and you turn it in right here (step). Don't want the Incubus? Don't take it: the quest will sit in your log until 28. Skipping the Ruins hurts a warlock: Gnarled Necromancer's Staff from The Wrath of Rath'mael[22] is the best solo staff for this stretch. A group of five, six bosses in any order. The quests are level 21–22, and according to beta data dungeon quests in Forever give 2–3 times the experience of normal ones - one of the most rewarding stops in 20–30. The main prize here for a warlock is Gnarled Necromancer's Staff from The Wrath of Rath'mael[22]: a staff with +26 spell power and +10 Spirit. No group? The only thing here for you is the trainer in the Magic Quarter (step).
Don't wait for the group at the entrance: once you and two others are there, Ritual of Summoning brings in the rest, one shard per person. Meeting stones in Forever don't summon anyone.
⚔︎ PvP

Corruption is the important one. Rank 1 Drain Soul also gives a shard and costs less - keep it on your action bar. You don't need Sense Demons and Drain Mana for leveling. Grimoire of Suffering (Rank 1) teaches the Voidwalker Suffering: it pulls mobs within 10 yards of it off you, but the cooldown is 2 minutes. Not 24 yet? You'll learn these together with the level 26 spells (step).
By our estimate, the three Shadowfang Keep quests give about 20 thousand experience in Forever - more than half a level, and with The Orb of Soran'ruk[25] there are four. No group? Skip the keep, do Ambermill and come back here after Hillsbrad (step).
Drops from:Head of Arugal - Archmage Arugal, Arugal · Soran'ruk Fragment - Twilight Acolyte

Tarren Mill is the Horde base in Hillsbrad: Durnholde, the fields and a new Forever quest. For a warlock there's also a wand here: Dangerous![28] rewards Charred Wand. ⚔︎ PvP
Tarren Mill versus Southshore is the classic faction war. In Forever the Alliance quests here from 21 to 30 and goes to the town hall in Hillsbrad Fields - the same place where you kill the farmers. That's where they catch you, while you're busy with a footman. Keep a Lesser Healthstone and a soulstone on you.
On the beta a chase often breaks off at a zone border: the player jumps into another layer of the world and vanishes. Running away - run for the border; chasing - don't follow across it.
Drops from:Vial of Innocent Blood - Syndicate Shadow Mage
The Syndicate stands close together - pull one at a time from the edge and don't use Fear here: feared mobs will bring their neighbors. The Shadow Mages cast from range: send the Voidwalker at the mage and put your DoTs on him too - he'll come to you on his own.
How to do this quest - The Rescue
The keys aren't interchangeable, the pairs are “jailor → prisoner”: Jailor Eston → Drull, Jailor Marlgen → Tog'thar. The jailors spawn near the prisoners, sometimes on the road to them.
The key says “Failed!” - that's normal, click again.
The Deathstalker's exact spot is still being confirmed on the beta - follow the quest marker. Dun Garok itself has level 28–30 dwarves, and the riflemen shoot from range: don't go down there. The reward is Expended Apothecary Vial, an off-hand item to go with a dagger; if you use a staff, take whichever sells for more.
How to do this quest - Scout Support
According to a tester's comment, the quest only opens after the second “Battle of Hillsbrad” (level 25): if High Executor Darthalia doesn't offer it, turn that one in and ask again. Deathstalker Masoj himself stands alone on a hill north of Nethander Stead .
The peaks, according to testers' comments: on the hills above Dun Garok , on the plateau above Durnholde , and above the yeti cave , not inside it. Level 33 mountain lions roam by the third one - approach carefully.

Outrunners are humanoids: if you bought Grimoire of Seduction at 26, the second one sleeps while Seduction lasts. Keeper Ordanus: pull the guards one at a time; if both come, the Voidwalker holds one and the other gets Fear, if there's nothing behind you.
How to do this quest - Shadumbra's Head
The panther walks in a circle - it's easier to stand at and wait.
Je'neu of the Earthen Ring[27] rewards Soft Willow Cape (+5 Intellect). Walking from Splintertree takes about 8–10 minutes (an estimate); give Astranaar a wide berth: the Alliance guards will attack.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Between a Rock and a Thistlefur”, “Troll Charm” and “Freedom to Ruul”

The furbolgs come two or three at a time: the Voidwalker holds them, you put DoTs on all of them. How to do this quest - King of the Foulweald
First kill the furbolgs around the mound. Then stand on the mound and use the banner from your bags.

Hellfire and Curse of the Elements can wait. You don't need Subjugate Demon (60) for leveling. Everything you need at 30 costs about 4 gold. Going on for the Felhunter? Gan'rul Bloodeye gives Seeking Strahad[30] right here: take it now, the quest leads to Ratchet (what's next).

What's next (30+): the rest of Thousand Needles, Ordanus[29] → The Den[29] in Stonetalon, the Shimmering Flats, Hillsbrad and Arathi, “Excavation Site: Wetlands” and the Scarlet Monastery. For a warlock, 30–33 is the Felhunter: Carendin Halgar in Undercity gives Seeking Strahad[30], and Gan'rul Bloodeye in Orgrimmar gives the identical Seeking Strahad[30]; both lead to Ratchet, and from there the chain goes through Undercity, Hillsbrad, Thousand Needles and the Wetlands. You don't need it for leveling - it's for PvP and groups. All of this will be the next part of the guide.

Dungeons: what to pick up in advance
Quests offered far from the entrance, and what a warlock brings to a group
In Forever, experience from dungeon mobs is lower, while dungeon quests give 2–3 times the experience of normal ones (even after the beta bonus was cut in half). Going in without quests makes little sense - collect them in advance, but not earlier than needed: quests “for later” clog your log. In a group a warlock brings damage plus utility nobody else has: healthstones, a soulstone on the healer and, from 20, summoning.
Warlock in a group: the short version
Curses, crowd control, stones and summoning
Before you go in: a healthstone for everyone - Minor Healthstone, from 22 - Lesser Healthstone (one shard per stone, and they can be handed over), from 18 - a soulstone (Create Soulstone) on the healer. Your demon is the Imp: Blood Pact gives Stamina to the whole group; from 22 - the Succubus for damage.
A bane and a curse on the same target - new in Forever. Bane of Agony on the boss, and pick the curse for your group: Curse of Recklessness (14) - lots of melee, Curse of the Elements (20) - lots of casters (+4% magic damage), Curse of Weakness - the boss hits the tank hard, Curse of Tongues (26) - a caster boss. Two warlocks in the group? Agree with the other one: identical curses don't stack.
Threat: give the tank 2–3 hits, then DoTs. Searing Pain generates a lot of threat. Use Life Tap, but not down to zero: restore your health yourself - Drain Life or Cannibalize between packs, not with the healer's mana.
Crowd control: Fear only to save the healer, and warn the group first: a feared mob brings the next pack. Banish (28) holds a demon or elemental, the Succubus's Seduction (grimoire at 26) - a humanoid.
Summoning: Ritual of Summoning (20) - you and two more players at the portal, costs a shard. Meeting stones in Forever don't summon anyone - you're the only quick way to gather the group at the entrance.
In a group, set the Imp to Passive: on Aggressive he pulls packs on his own.
Ragefire Chasm
13–18 · Orgrimmar, Cleft of Shadow · at 15–16 on this route
For a warlock: the end of the Hidden Enemies[16] chain gives Staff of Orgrimmar (+18 spell power), and The Power to Destroy...[16] gives Ghastly Trousers. Tauren get two more quests in Thunder Bluff, and a third one starts inside - ask a tauren friend to share them. No group - don't take any of these quests.
Wailing Caverns
17–24 · the Barrens, the oasis west of the Crossroads
The Druids of the Fang and the Fang leaders cast sleep and heal themselves - have the group kill them first. Curse of Weakness is useless against them: you need damage.
Unending Torment[21] and Crest of Lordaeron[22] start inside. The entrance is in the ruins of the capital, on your left right after you enter Lordaeron (the run). No group - don't take these quests: they'll just sit in your log.
Shadowfang Keep
22–30 · Silverpine Forest · at 24–25 on this route
By estimate, the keep's three quests give about 20,000 experience in Forever. The run - step. The Orb of Soran'ruk[25]: the large fragment drops from Shadowfang Darksoul in Shadowfang Keep, the three small ones from Twilight Acolyte in Blackfathom Deeps, and only while the quest is in your log. Pick your reward: Staff of Soran'ruk (+34 Shadow and Fire damage, +14 Stamina) or the off-hand Orb of Soran'ruk.
Blackfathom Deeps
22–32 · Ashenvale, Zoram Strand · at 28–29 on this route
Blueleaf Tubers[26] - Mebok Mizzyrix, RatchetIt's also turned in at Ratchet, and after 22 the route doesn't go there. Take it at 22 (step) only if you'll fly to Ratchet yourself after Razorfen Kraul
Dragonmaw Rumors[31] → Open the Maw[31] - Hammerfall → the Deathstalker agent in the WetlandsAt 30+, on the way through the Arathi Highlands
There's no flight path in the Wetlands: the Horde walks there from Tarren Mill or Hammerfall across Thandol Span. The Felhunter chain also has a target in the Wetlands (Tome of the Cabal[30]) - handy to combine.
What to train, which demon to use and how to keep your mana up - up to level 30
What changed in Forever:Bane of Agony is now a bane - you can keep one bane and one curse on a target at the same time. Life Tap gives (30 + Spirit) mana at rank 1, so Spirit is now your stat. Rank 1 Drain Soul hits for 85 (was 55), and a shard can come from any tick. Curse of the Elements comes at 20 (was 32) and affects all magic damage. Create Healthstone heals for 120 (was 100). Demons scale with your stats. Only Ritual of Summoning summons players: meeting stones don't. Wands don't scale with spell power (according to the September 24 beta notes).
How to level. The Voidwalker holds the mob, you kill it from range. Send in the demon, let it land 1–2 hits, then Bane of Agony, Corruption, and Immolate on a mob that will live a while; after that, use your wand while the DoTs tick. Shadow Bolt is expensive: cast it when you have mana to spare or when Nightfall (talent) procs. Low on mana but above half health - Life Tap, right in combat, while the demon holds the mob. Finish the last mob of a pack with a channeled Drain Soul - a free shard. From 14, Drain Life tops up your health; after a fight - food and Cannibalize on a humanoid or undead corpse. A second mob - DoTs on it and Fear while you finish the first, but only if there's nothing else nearby.
Summon Succubus (22, eight quests) or Summon Incubus (28, optional): hits much harder but holds threat worse. One mob, and you top up your health with a channeled Drain Life - the Succubus; several mobs or an elite - the Voidwalker. Seduction (15 seconds of humanoid control) - only if you bought Grimoire of Seduction at 26.
Summoning the Voidwalker or the Succubus costs a shard. While you summon a new demon, the old one is stunned - swapping demons mid-fight is pointless (according to the October 8 beta notes).
DoTs and rotation
Damage per point of mana (Forever tooltips)
Bane of Agony: 72 damage over 24 seconds for 25 mana - your most efficient spell. Its damage ramps up toward the end: don't waste it on a mob that will die in under 10 seconds.
Corruption: 40 damage over 12 seconds for 35 mana, from 14 - 65 over 15 seconds. Always apply it.
Immolate: upfront damage plus a burn - for a mob that will live a while. Don't open with it before the demon has used Torment: the mob will come for you.
Shadow Bolt: three times as expensive per point of damage as the bane. Cast it when you have mana to spare or when Nightfall procs.
Life Tap: (30 + Spirit) mana per cast, from 16 - (75 + Spirit). Use it while you're above half health and the demon is holding the mob. In Forever, Spirit on gear means mana.
Drain Life (14): 10 health per second for 5 seconds, 20-yard range. Getting hit can interrupt the channel - keep the mob on your demon.
Cannibalize: up to 35% health and mana over 10 seconds from a humanoid or undead corpse, once every 2 minutes. The route is full of such corpses: the Scarlet Crusade, gnolls, Dalaran and Hillsbrad humans, centaurs, the Syndicate.
Between fights - food, not water: it restores the health you'll turn into mana and gives +5% experience (Forever). Bandages don't cost mana either.
Health Funnel heals your demon with your own health: at 20, healing the Voidwalker to full takes about a minute (a tester's measurement). Got a shard? Summoning a new one is faster.
Shards, stones and bags
How many to keep and where to find room
Drain Soul gives a Soul Shard if the mob dies during the channel; in Forever every tick has a chance, and it grows after each empty tick. The mob has to give experience.
Shards don't stack: each one takes a slot. Keep 3–6 (demon, Minor Healthstone, soulstone, a spare), plus one more from 20 for Ritual of Summoning. Delete the extras.
Minor Healthstone (10): 120 health, from 22 - Lesser Healthstone for 300. 2-minute cooldown, only one in your bags. Used it? Make a new one after the fight. According to Warcraft Tavern, it doesn't share a cooldown with potions.
Soulstone (Create Soulstone, 18): resurrection with 400 health and 700 mana. Put it on yourself before an elite or a risky quest.
Conjured stones disappear if you log out for more than 15 minutes.
Small Soul Pouch is a 14-slot soul bag: the reward for the Succubus at 22 and for the Incubus. According to Warcraft Tavern, it goes into the new reagent bag slot - check in game. More room: Old Toolbox (12 slots) - the reward from the sleeping bag chain that starts south of Camp Taurajo (Stepping Stones[24]).
It helps when: a second mob joins the fight, your demon died (DoTs, fear, wand while the mob runs), your health is running out (fear and a bandage or a healthstone).
A feared mob runs anywhere - into the next pack - and comes back with it. It's the main reason warlocks die while leveling: don't fear near camps, in caves or near guards.
Damage to a feared mob can break the fear early. Fear doesn't work on a target with Curse of Recklessness on it.
In a dungeon - only to save the healer, and warn the group first.
Stats: spell power (Shadow if you level as Affliction or Demonology; Fire as Destruction), then Stamina and Spirit, then Intellect. If you level as Affliction, don't chase hit: Suppression covers your misses. The other builds don't take this talent, so hit on gear won't hurt there.
Cannibalize - up to 35% health and mana over 10 seconds from a humanoid or undead corpse, once every 2 minutes. Doubly useful for a warlock: Life Tap will turn that health into mana later.
Will of the Forsaken - removes fear, sleep and charm, but in Forever it no longer gives 5 seconds of protection afterward: use it once the fear has landed. Good against enemy warlocks and priests.
Touch of the Grave (new) - your spells and attacks have a 30% chance to drain a little health, up to 5% of your maximum, but no more than once every 25 seconds.
Underwater Breathing - you breathe underwater much longer than other races: you can skip Unending Breath at 16, and it's enough for Blackfathom Deeps too.
The Undead Shadow Resistance seems to have been removed - we'll check in game. Beta guides consider the Undead Warlock a good choice for PvE.
22–28, optional: the Incubus - Love Hurts[20] → Wish You Were Here[27] → The Binding (step); the scarf drops in Ashenvale from level 25–27 mobs (step), and you turn it in at 28 in Orgrimmar (step). Same abilities, a different look; whether you can get both the Succubus and the Incubus hasn't been checked.
4 builds with a talent tree and the order by level
The main one is “Affliction: DoTs and Wand”: instant Corruption by 14, Nightfall by 26, Siphon Life at 30. There's also “Affliction: Drain Life”, “Demonology” and “Destruction” for groups.
All builds, the tree and the point order are in the “Leveling talents” section.

Professions and camping
What to take, where to learn it and what to collect - up to level 30
Advice for a warlock: Enchanting + Tailoring, plus First Aid and Cooking. Enchanting means your own wand: Lesser Magic Wand at skill 10, Greater Magic Wand at 70. Tailoring uses the cloth that drops from humanoids anyway: your own cloth gear, bags (shards take up room) and items to disenchant for Enchanting. That's what Method, Warcraft Tavern and beta testers recommend. If a friend is an enchanter who'll make you a wand, take gathering professions for money: Herbalism and Skinning or Mining.
Greater Magic Wand: Enchanting 70, essences and Simple Wood. The materials cost about 15 silver - skill is the only thing holding you back.
New in Forever: according to the game files, enchanting supply vendors carry Lesser Magic Essence and Strange Dust - Thaddeus Webb in Undercity, Kithas in Orgrimmar, Lilly in Silverpine. Stock is limited; check on the spot whether they sell them on the beta.
The wand binds when equipped: a friend can make it and pass it to you - it only binds once you put it on.
Apprentice - up to 75. Journeyman - from skill 50, 5, up to 150. Expert - from skill 125, 50, up to 225.
How to get it for freebeta data
The reward for Marla's Last Wish[5] (level 5) is a gathering profession book of your choice: the profession right away and +2 skill. A warlock only needs it if you're taking a gathering profession.
At skill 20 every profession has a “Camping 101” quest - a camp item with a buff. Sit next to it and you get the buff.
For a warlock: the tailoring banner gives Spirit - and in Forever, Spirit decides how much mana Life Tap gives (according to Warcraft Tavern); the first aid kit gives Stamina.
Sit by any campfire for a minute, even someone else's - you get a buff for an hour.
Cooking and First Aid
In Forever any cooked food gives +5% experience from kills for 15 minutes - always eat. A warlock needs food more than water: it's food that restores the health Life Tap took.
In Forever, First Aid also makes healing potions. Bandages: Linen Bandage from linen, from skill 40 - Heavy Linen Bandage, then wool ones. Bandages don't cost mana.
What to collect
Linen Cloth at 1–20, Wool Cloth at 20–30 - from humanoids: for Tailoring and bandages, sell the extra at the auction house.
Meat goes into Cooking; sell gray items to a vendor at every stop.
New in Forever: a Durotar Supply and Logistics camp near the Crossroads. Fill the crates you find in the world with materials and turn them in for a currency; according to beta data, it also buys patterns for cloth gear.
Money
A warlock needs money early: training up to 20 is about 274, at 20–30 about 11 gold more if you learn everything (the essentials are about 9), plus about 2 gold for grimoires. What you can skip is in the “Warlock” section.
Don't buy Imp grimoires after 10: you won't need him solo anymore. The Voidwalker grimoires are what matter.
Sell gray items at every stop, and cloth and herbs at the Undercity or Orgrimmar auction house. Aim for about 10 gold saved by level 30, then save up for riding: at 40 it will most likely cost about 100 gold, as in Classic.

What's new in Forever
Only what matters for this route
Beta data (build 1.60.1, as of October 15, 2026, beta level cap 30): the Wowhead Forever database, Blizzard's article on the rogue and warlock (October 7), the beta notes, the Questie database and the RestedXP route for Forever. Things may change before the November 4 launch.
What stayed the samebeta data
Not a single old quest in the 1–30 zones was removed, and neither their experience nor the experience per level changed.
Ragefire Chasm, Wailing Caverns, Shadowfang Keep, Blackfathom Deeps, Razorfen Kraul - the same levels and bosses. Mobs there give less experience, quests give more.
No new flight paths, zeppelins or ships for the Horde in 1–30. The hearthstone is once an hour.
Mounts still come at level 40.
Warlock in Foreverofficial
Banes: Bane of Agony is now a bane, so you can keep one bane and one curse on a target at the same time - for example, Bane of Agony and Curse of Recklessness. Rank 1 damage is 72 instead of 84.
Life Tap: (30 + Spirit) mana at rank 1 - Spirit is now a warlock stat. Rank 1 Drain Soul - 85 damage (was 55), with a shard chance on every tick.
Curse of the Elements - from 20 (was 32), affects all magic damage: +4% damage and -30 to resistances. Create Firestone (28) is now a weapon enchant.
Demons scale with your stats. Aggressive mode came back on October 1. Summoning players - only Ritual of Summoning: meeting stones don't summon.
Casters are weaker overall: wands don't scale with spell power (according to the September 24 beta notes), and low ranks get less from spell power (according to the October 1 beta notes). Testers complain that 6–10 is the hardest stretch, but once you have the Voidwalker and Drain Life, downtime almost disappears.
Shadow Resistance seems to have been removed - we'll check in game. Details for warlocks are in the “Warlock” section, “Undead Warlock” card.
PvP and rulesetsofficial
Rulesets to choose from: “Normal” - PvP only if you want it (/pvp); “PvP” - your flag turns on by itself in contested and enemy zones, and one faction per account; “RP” - same as Normal. Hardcore comes after launch.
Horde lands on the route: Tirisfal, Silverpine, the Barrens. Contested: Stonetalon, Hillsbrad, Ashenvale, Thousand Needles.
Battlegrounds: Warsong Gulch from 10, Arathi Basin from 20, the new Darkspear Islands (15 vs 15) from 30, Alterac Valley from 51. Brackets of 10 levels. On the beta, according to testers, only the level 30 battleground is open.
For warlocks: against melee, DoTs first, then Fear. Your Will of the Forsaken now only removes fear, with no immunity afterward - and the same goes for enemy Undead: fear them again. Before a zone where people gank, put a soulstone on yourself.
You also get honor for killing players in the world. PvP sets start at level 55 - no need to think about them before 30.
Experience and conveniencesofficial
Cooked food gives +5% experience from kills. Camping buffs, the tent and the sleeping bag.
Dungeon quests give 2–3 times the experience of normal ones.
There's no automatic dungeon finder - only the bulletin board, and meeting stones don't summon.
Mobs respawn faster in Hillsbrad, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles.
The Legacy system: account-wide bonuses unlock once your first character reaches 25.
Books from all over the world can be handed in to the librarian in the Magic Quarter of Undercity - experience and rewards.
Playing with friends who share a language? Pick your preferred language in the settings: you'll land in the same world layer as its speakers more often.

Tips and common mistakes
The hearthstone, dangerous mobs, what not to forget
6 - Brill. 10 - Undercity. 15–16 - the Crossroads.
Around 22.5 - Undercity. 25 - Tarren Mill. 28 - Splintertree Post. 30 - Freewind Post.
For short distances - a death run. Free until level 10, after that - “Resurrection Sickness” and −25% durability. A soulstone on yourself saves you the run back from the graveyard.
Dangerous mobs
Tirisfal: Maggot Eye (11), Riptear (level 13 elite), the elite Whispering Horror in Bandarion Keep (11).
Went to Undercity for the Voidwalker without a shard: quest turned in, but nothing to summon him with. Finish the last mob on the way with a channeled Drain Soul.
Fear next to another pack: the feared mob brings its neighbors.
Life Tap down to zero mid-fight: use it while you're above half health and the demon holds the mob.
Shadow Bolt as your main attack: your mana runs out in two mobs. DoTs are cheaper.
Opening with Immolate before the Voidwalker has used Torment: the mob comes for you.
A bag full of shards - no room for loot. Keep 3–6, delete the extras.
Health Funnel instead of a new demon: a minute of healing versus a 10-second summon.
