In WoW Forever the orc rogue picks up an axe for the first time, and the racial +1% crit no longer depends on your weapon. A step-by-step route to 30: Durotar with the new Forever quests, the Barrens, Stonetalon Mountains, the Eastern Kingdoms, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles. When to take the class quests (The Shattered Hand[13], Plundering the Plunderers[18], the poison chain), what to fight with along the way, which professions to pick and how to live on bandages when you have no healing of your own.

Addons
What to install from CurseForge for Forever: the useful and the fun
Maps inside dungeons:Dungeon Crawler Forever shows floors, passages, bosses and quests. Open it with /dm. Its data changes with the beta: double-check quest requirements in game. More conveniences, screenshots and highlight commands - in the useful addons guide.
How to install. In the CurseForge app, add the game with the “+” button and point it to your Forever client folder - a Forever tab appears. Manually on the beta: the _classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns folder. Addons for regular Classic won't work - you need a file marked Forever (1.60.1). ★ - our pick.
Already in the game - no addon needed: coordinates on the map and minimap (turn them on in the settings), quest objectives on the map (the “Enhanced” template at first login, or the quest objectives option), a damage meter, a swing timer, the Cooldown Manager, one combined bag, an equipment manager and a modern auction house. Not in the game: a threat meter, markers for quests you haven't picked up yet, and a /way command.
Quests and map
★ Questie - who gives quests and where the objectives are, on the map and minimap. It still lacks some of the new Forever quests.
★ TomTom - an arrow to a point. The coordinates on this site copy as a /way command for it.
★ Leatrix Maps - reveals unexplored parts of the map, shows dungeon entrances, and the map can be enlarged.
Forever Quest Tint - tints the text of new Forever quests, so you see at a glance what's new.
Conveniences
★ Leatrix Plus - auto quest turn-in, junk selling, repairs, fast loot and dozens of small things. There's a separate version for Forever.
★ Baganator - proper bags and bank: the built-in combined bag can't be moved. A similar one - Bagnon.
★ Auctionator - posts auctions quickly, remembers prices and shows them in tooltips.
★ Platynator - draws neat bars above mobs and marks the ones you need for a quest. Very handy while leveling.
Professions
★ GatherLite - herbs, ore and fish on the map: it already ships with more than 26 thousand points made for Forever.
GatherMate2 - the same, but it only remembers points as you gather them yourself.
For fun: voiceover and dialogue
★ Spoken - English voiceover for quests, books and zones. On the Forever forums it gets the most praise: “like an audiobook”. More in the addons guide.
★ Immersion - movie-style NPC dialogue instead of the usual quest window.
Optional
Details! or ThreatClassic2 - threat in dungeons: the built-in damage meter doesn't show it.
Easy Experience Bar - experience per hour and how much is left to the next level.
Dungeon Journal - dungeon quests and loot: Forever has no dungeon journal of its own.
WeakAuras has no Forever version; use the fork ForeverAuras instead (it can do what the built-in Cooldown Manager sees).
For mail, instead of Postal try Forever Mail: recipient picker, mail history and attachment lists. More in the general addons guide.
Zygor and ElvUI aren't installed through CurseForge.
Combat “helpers” that do calculations are banned in Forever, as in the modern game: addons may display, but not calculate.
For rogues
You no longer need an energy tick tracker: in Forever energy regenerates smoothly.
Cooldowns are shown by the built-in Cooldown Manager - it has supported rogues since October 1.
Combo points right on your target - Combo Points on Plate: the points are drawn on the health bar above the mob, so you don't have to look away at your own portrait. Change the look and color with /cpp. The beta still forgets addon settings after a restart, so the addon keeps them in a macro called “CPP Settings” - don't delete it.
Poison reminder - NoPoizen, optional from level 25 once you learn poisons: it beeps when a poison wears off.

Leveling talents
Builds for 10–30: which one to pick and in what order to spend points
Your first talent point comes at level 10, then one per level: 21 points by level 30. Not sure what to pick? Go “Combat: Main-Hand Axe”. This build suits an orc best of all: orcs know axes from the start, and the racial +1% crit works with any weapon. You can reset your talents at the rogue trainer in Orgrimmar - Shenthul ; according to beta data it costs 1 if you haven't reset in a while. Hover a talent for its Wowhead tooltip; the button at the bottom opens the build in the Wowhead calculator with the same order.
Combat: Main-Hand Axemain0 / 21 / 0The easiest build for leveling: works with any slow weapon, little downtime, quick runs between pulls. Icy Veins, Wowhead, Warcraft Tavern and Mobalytics all spend the same points.
Pros:Sinister Strike costs less and Eviscerate hits harder - a mob drops in a couple of combos. Riposte at 20 is a free hit after a parry. At 30, Blade Flurry is the only way to hit two targets before level 40.
Cons: two buttons in rotation and no multi-target damage until 30. Beta testers complain that at 30 the rogue sits at the bottom of the damage meters in any spec.
Weapons: main hand - the slowest, hardest-hitting axe (Orgrimmar sells them at 11, 15 and 19, the list is in the “Rogue” section), off hand - a fast weapon with the best DPS, usually a dagger. Mobalytics variant: Dual Wield Specialization 5/5 and skip Flawless Execution - the difference is small.
Assassination: Mutilate at 30if you have two daggers21 / 0 / 0Until 30 you hit with Sinister Strike and lots of crits, at 30 you get Mutilate: a strike with both daggers for 2 combo points without getting behind the target. Icy Veins guide.
Pros: crits from the first points, and after a kill your next hit almost always crits - mobs fall one after another. Finishers give energy back.
Cons: the key point only comes at 30; Endurance, Riposte and Blade Flurry aren't in this build. Guides say Mutilate needs two daggers - the forums disagree, so check in game. A beta tester measured ~20 DPS less than with Combat.
Weapons: a slow axe until 30: Sinister Strike hits harder with it, and the racial +1% crit now works with any weapon. Two daggers by 30.
Combat: Daggersfor dagger fans2 / 19 / 0Backstab and Puncturing Wounds: +30% crit chance and a chance for an extra combo point. A Method build, respec at 30.
Cons: solo, the mob faces you - testers joke that “Backstab is now Sinister Strike”. On top of that, a beta bug: mobs parry even from behind. Endurance isn't in this build.
Subtlety: Ambush and Hemorrhagefor stealth fans0 / 0 / 21A huge opener from stealth and Hemorrhage at 30. From the Icy Veins and Mobalytics guides, though they don't recommend it for your first leveling.
Cons: it only comes alive at level 18, when you get Ambush; no multi-target damage; needs a dagger. Mobalytics says it plainly: level as Combat and switch to this at 30.
The orc and troll starting valley · the Den and the Burning Blade Coven
0 of 15
All the quests are around the Den: pick them up in a batch, do them in a loop, turn them in as a batch. About 40 minutes to level 5–6. A rogue's fighting is simple from level 1: Sinister Strike builds combo points, Eviscerate spends them.
The valley rogue trainer Rwag only teaches up to level 6. After that - Kaplak in Razor Hill and the trainers in Orgrimmar's Cleft of Shadow.

The centaurs walk in pairs: pull the one standing at the edge with your thrown weapon and fight outside the camp. Centaurs are humanoids: pick their pockets before the fight. According to RestedXP, Pal'juh isn't always there: if she's missing, don't wait.

The Escape[18]: the reward is Greasy Tinker's Pants, leather, +3 Strength and +3 Agility. Samophlange[16]: you can't use the mace without the skill, and rogues can't use shields - take whichever sells for more.
Pull the Baron's guards one at a time; if two come running - Evasion and hit one of them. Open every lockbox on the ship - that's how your Lockpicking goes up. Tazan isn't there? Then someone just killed him: wait, you can only steal the key from him while he's alive.
How to do this quest - Plundering the Plunderers
The ship is the first one off the shore south of Ratchet - board it over the bow. Open the locked chests on the second deck: Lockpicking grows up to 5 × your level.
The main chest is further down. Open it and a huge level 50 parrot appears. Go into stealth beforehand, walk up and feed it the E.C.A.C.: it turns into an ordinary level 18 bird.
On the beta the apparatus didn't give out the Thieves' Tools and E.C.A.C. for a while - fixed from the second week.
Kill the centaurs by the command tent. When Verog the Dervish appears, he shouts a challenge - look for him a bit south of the tent, by the Kolkar chest.
Hamuul Runetotem[16] leads to Thunder Bluff - you'll take it there at 22, or earlier with a group going to the Wailing Caverns (step).

Level 18 and 20 skills, the start of the poison chain, Camp Taurajo and the Field of Giants

At 20, three things are waiting in Orgrimmar: the trainer (level 18 and 20 skills), turning in The Shattered Hand[13] and the start of the poison chain. Then finish clearing the Barrens to 21: Camp Taurajo, the Field of Giants, the elite Chol'aruk (only with a partner). Keep your hearthstone at the Crossroads: you'll need it after Fizzle's tower (step).

Deep Cover[20]: the target is the Venture Co. tower in the northern Barrens. Don't go there now: the tower mobs are level 22–25, and at 22 you'll have Vanish. The route takes you to the tower on its own (at 22).
Tusks, heads and adornments only drop while you have the quests - take everything at Taurajo and the Crossroads before you go hunting.

Orgrimmar, Zendo'jian : Double Axe≈ 70 (level 19) - a one-handed axe with 11.0 DPS, 2.5 speed. The main purchase at 20: 20% stronger than Cleaver, and the next vendor axe only comes at 24–30.
Orgrimmar, Kareth : Kris≈ 71 (level 19) - a 10.9 DPS dagger for your off hand. If you have Harpy Skinner (9.6, +3 Agility), you can save the money.

➶ Level faster
Bristlebacks and Razormane are humanoids and walk in twos and threes: Sap one (in Forever you stay in stealth after it) and hit the other. And Pick Pocket before every fight: your level 22 skills and the powder for them will cost about 2.
The Barrens rares Humar the Pridelord (level 23 elite) and Takk the Leaper drop set pieces: two of them give +5% run speed in the Barrens and Stonetalon. If you see one, don't walk past.
⚔︎ PvP
The Alliance needs Chol'aruk too - they have their own version of the quest. Someone hanging around his camp isn't necessarily a partner. On PvP realms in the Barrens it's the Alliance players who are flagged, not you.
An Alliance rogue will open on you from stealth with a stun - and for an orc it's 20% shorter anyway (Hardiness). Once you're free - Gouge, get behind him and hit him from there. Arathi Basin only opens at 20 on launch: on the beta, according to testers, only the new battleground from 30 works.
⌂Turn in 2 quests, pick up 10 new ones and visit your trainer
Training at 18 and 20 costs about 150. Ambush only works with a dagger in your main hand: with an axe you can skip it. Rupture is for long fights and elites, when Slice and Dice is already up; Eviscerate finishes a normal mob faster. Blade of Cunning is 6.75 DPS, weaker than what you have: the quest is for the 455 experience, so sell the dagger.
This is the start of the poison chain. Deep Cover[20] leads to the Venture Co. tower in the northern Barrens - the route gets there at 22, when you already have Vanish.
How to do this quest - The Shattered Salute

Chol'aruk is a level 20 elite and his guards are elite too: only with a partner. Pull the guards one at a time. Didn't work out? Drop Chol'aruk the Ravener[21]: the quest doesn't unlock anything. Ishamuhale hits hard - start with full energy, and at half health - Evasion.
How to do this quest - Chol'aruk the Ravener

Two rare elites roam here - a Venture Co. overseer and a foreman. Go around them. If the goblin dies, the quest fails: abandon Gerenzo's Orders[22] and take it again when he's back. Doesn't work the second time either? Abandon it and later turn in only Super Reaper 6000[21]. While you guard the goblin, keep the attackers on yourself: interrupt the casters with Kick, and if two are on you - Evasion. The second wave has four: that's where Thistle Tea comes in handy.

How to do this quest - Mission: Possible But Not Probable
Foreman Silixiz: come from behind and pick his pocket at max range. Pocket empty? Kill him and wait for a new one. Kill him after the theft anyway: otherwise he'll attack if you have to run.

With an axe or a sword your opener from behind is Garrote, and take them one at a time. In Forever they see stealth better - testers couldn't get through the door at 20.
Upstairs, with a dagger, open with Ambush too: it takes half the boss's health.
The box at the end poisons you: Touch of Zanzil lasts 7 days, and Hinott's Oil removes it - Hinott's reward for the next quest.
Open from stealth with full energy, and Blood Fury first thing. It's a long fight: Gouge - and while he stands there, your energy builds up; at half health - Evasion and Thistle Tea, lower still - a healing potion. If it goes really badly - Vanish. According to beta data, the chest opens even without Lockpicking. The chest poisons you - Touch of Zanzil, for 7 days. That's intended: the antidote is Hinott's Oil, which Hinott's Assistance[20] gives you in Tarren Mill (step).

On the beta a chase often breaks off at a zone border: the player jumps into another layer of the world and vanishes. Running away - run for the border; chasing - don't follow across it.

⚔︎Questing loop: “The Manor, Ravenholdt”, “WANTED: Syndicate Personnel”, “Blood of Innocents” and 3 more
The level 50 manor guards are neutral - no need to hide. Smudge Thunderwood in the manor - according to the game files he has poison reagents and powder.
How to do this quest - The Manor, Ravenholdt
You need Detect Traps - learned from the trainer at 24. In the tunnel before the manor turn it on and walk up to the chest: the objective counts once you see the trap. Don't open the chest.
The way there: east from Tarren Mill across the river, past the huge tree - a zigzag trail up the mountain. The level 50 guards at the top are neutral, no need to hide.
Drops from:Vial of Innocent Blood - Syndicate Shadow Mage
The Syndicate stand close together: Sap one of a pair and fight the other. Shadow Mages cast from range - approach in stealth, Kick interrupts their spells. Two on you - Evasion, three - Vanish and back off.
How to do this quest - The Rescue
The keys aren't interchangeable, the pairs are “jailor → prisoner”: Jailor Eston → Drull, Jailor Marlgen → Tog'thar. The jailors spawn near the prisoners, sometimes on the road to them.
The key says “Failed!” - that's normal, click again.
Next Myrokos Silentform offers A Way In[34] - that's already the Arathi Highlands and a level 34 quest: don't take it. Back down the same path to the Mill.
Weathered Deathstalker's Blade - a sword with 12.7 DPS, +4 Strength: with the Swords skill it's stronger than Double Axe. No swords? Take it anyway: it sells for more than the vial.

Undercity: the trainer at 26 and home
Hearthstone to Undercity, Cheap Shot, the zeppelin by Brill
0 of 3
Hillsbrad is done - hearth to Undercity for the rogue trainer, then take the zeppelin home to Kalimdor.
Don't forget in this section
The tower near Brill has two zeppelins: you want Zapetta - to Orgrimmar. Hin Denburg goes to Grom'gol.
⚔︎ PvP
From 26 you have Cheap Shot - a 4-second stun from stealth, the best way to open on a player. A stunned player can't start a bandage or cast a spell: you have time to build combo points.
Cheap Shot is a stun from stealth: open every tough fight with it. Expose Armor is for dungeons - you can save the money while leveling. While you're here, sell your wool, leather and ore at the auction house.

Thunder Bluff and Stonetalon again
The Ashenvale Hunt, turn-ins in Thunder Bluff, Sun Rock Retreat, the Charred Vale
0 of 9
The Sun Rock Retreat chains lead into Ashenvale and Thousand Needles - so the mountains first, then the forest. Along the way you do two quests from Thunder Bluff.
Don't forget in this section
Cenarius' Legacy[25] → Ordanus[29]: the target of the second quest is in Ashenvale. Take it while you're here.
Orgrimmar, Rekkul : poison reagents and vials (according to the game files). At 28 you need Poisons skill 120 - buy more if you're short.
⚔︎ PvP
The Alliance has its own quest on the same Bloodfury harpies, and their Stonetalon Peak is close by. Alliance rogues wait until you're tangled up with a couple of harpies - pull them one at a time.
Harpies are humanoids: Sap the second of a pair. Bloodfury Slayers can execute you when your health is low: at half health - Evasion. Go around the rare elite Sister Riven (28).
How to do this quest - Harpies Threaten
The harpies are grouped by type: normal ones - (an elite harpy nearby), Ambushers - , Roguefeathers - . The Slayers roam and will find you themselves.
Splintertree Post is a big Horde quest hub. The eastern loop first, then Zoram'gar and, if you have a group, Blackfathom Deeps. You'll also finish The Sacred Flame[25] from Thunder Bluff here.
Don't forget in this section
Je'neu Sancrea : take the Blackfathom Deeps quests only on the day you go - otherwise they clog your log.
Leave Sharptalon (level 31) from the Ashenvale Hunt alone for now - that's for 31+.
You'll turn in Ordanus[29] at Sun Rock Retreat on your next visit (at 30+): The Den[29] still lies ahead.
◈ Loot along the way
Cloth from satyrs and furbolgs - Wool Cloth and your first Silk Cloth: for bandages or the auction house.
➶ Level faster
Your hearthstone is in Splintertree Post: use it to get from Zoram'gar back to the Foulweald (step) instead of walking across the whole forest.
⚔︎ PvP
Astranaar is the main Alliance camp for 17–32, and their Silverwing Outpost sits right below Splintertree Post. The classic: raids on Astranaar and the counter-raids on Splintertree. Being chased - Sprint to the Splintertree guards; cornered - Vanish.
⌂
next - Ashenvale
Splintertree Post: Vhulgra - flight path; Innkeeper Kaylisk - set your hearthstone in Splintertree.
Torek's Assault[24]: if you learned Swords, your reward is Slatemetal Cutlass, a sword with 12.3 DPS, +2 Strength and Agility. No swords? Take whichever sells for more (the other reward is a staff).
Je'neu of the Earthen Ring[27]: take Deftkin Belt - a leather belt with +4 Agility and +3 Stamina. No Zoram'gar flight path? It's about 8–10 minutes on foot (an estimate), Sprint whenever it's off cooldown; give Astranaar a wide berth: the Alliance guards will attack.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Between a Rock and a Thistlefur”, “Troll Charm” and “Freedom to Ruul”
Before the escort, clear the way to the village exit - you'll be attacked on the way. Kill the shamans first; Kick interrupts their spells. Furbolgs are humanoids: Sap the second of a pair.
How to do this quest - Troll Charm
In the cave the mobs stand in twos and threes and respawn quickly - watch your back. The charm chests respawn quickly too: you can circle one hall.
The furbolgs come in twos and threes: Gouge one and fight the other; three - Evasion and Thistle Tea. Start at full health with poisons on your weapons.
How to do this quest - King of the Foulweald
First kill the furbolgs around the mound. Then stand on the mound and use the banner from your bags.
After the banner, two always come, and Chief Murgut appears on a timer, not after they die. Don't waste cooldowns on the first two.
Half the dungeon is underwater: watch your breath bar and fight in the water only near air bubbles. The naga are humanoids: before the pull, take one out of the fight with Sap; Kick interrupts the priestesses and oracles who heal.
Baron Aquanis[30]: the best reward is Outlaw Sabre, a sword with 20.4 DPS: a rogue won't get a stronger weapon before 30. Didn't learn Swords? The sword can wait in your bag until your next Undercity visit: it's worth learning Swords for it.

Quest turn-ins · a new Forever camp on Skywatcher Plateau
0 of 6
Turning in the Stonetalon and Ashenvale quests - and something new in Forever: in northwestern Mulgore, above Thunder Bluff, an Earthen Ring camp on Skywatcher Plateau. Three level 30 quests worth ~2.5 thousand experience each, mobs 27–29.
Don't forget in this section
The Broodmother[31] is an elite level 31 spider: group only. No group? Don't take it - the quest doesn't unlock anything.
¤ Shopping and useful stuff
Thunder Bluff, Kard Ragetotem : Main Gauche≈ 193 (from 29) - a dagger with 16.6 DPS, 50% stronger than Kris: for your off hand. The same dagger - Kareth in Orgrimmar.
Thunder Bluff has two elevators - on the southwest and northeast sides. The plateau is northwest of the bluff: take either one down and go around the bluff (which elevator is closer hasn't been checked yet).

⚔︎Questing loop: “Defending the Dead”, “Stronger than Steel”, “Talkin' bout Toxins, Mon” and “The Broodmother”

About 15 thousand experience near Taurajo, on the way to Thousand Needles. Useful if you're short of 30 or you've got a group for Razorfen Kraul: there you get Willix the Importer[30] and Monkey Ring (+5 Agility).
Freewind Post, the Galak centaurs, the Sacred Flame · Kidney Shot in Orgrimmar
0 of 8
This is where you hit level 30, followed by a short loop through the capitals: a level 30 axe in Thunder Bluff, and the trainer in Orgrimmar, who teaches Kidney Shot at 30. Set aside about 8 for 30: training is 4, the axe and the dagger about four more. The rest of Thousand Needles is already part of 30+.
Don't forget in this section
Set your hearthstone at Freewind Post and get the flight path there.
Alien Egg[26]: the egg is in one of three places: , or .
Set your hearthstone at Freewind Post: after the trainer in Orgrimmar it brings you straight back here, to the 30+ quests (step).
⚔︎ PvP
Level 30 - battlegrounds. On the beta the new battleground Darkspear Islands, 15 vs 15, opens at 30. The battlemasters in the capitals queue you - Gruga Bloodblade in Orgrimmar and Rugbul Boomfirst in Undercity - and there's also a portal in the Darkspear Raiders camp north of Ratchet . Don't fall into the water - testers complain about sharks.
Thousand Needles is contested, but the Alliance has almost no quests here until 30+ - you can breathe out. From 30 you have two stuns in a row: Cheap Shot from stealth, then Kidney Shot - the whole time your opponent can't heal or cast.
The Sacred Flame[29]: the reward is Cliffrunner's Aim, for pulling mobs from range if you learn Bows (Hanashi in Orgrimmar); otherwise - sell it. Not 30 yet? Make it up right here: Cliffwatcher Longhorn now gives Grimtotem Spying[28] - three Secret Notes in crates at Darkcloud Pinnacle , in the Grimtotem tauren camp; Elu - Wind Rider[29]: 10 Highperch Wyvern Eggs at Highperch in the west . Both quests are turned in to whoever gave them.
Crescent Axe is 55% stronger than Double Axe: unless you have Outlaw Sabre in your main hand, it's the key purchase at 30. According to Wowhead, Boarton Shadetotem also trains rogues in Thunder Bluff - this hasn't been checked in game. If he does, learn your level 30 skills from him and hearth straight back to Freewind Post (step).
Cheap Shot from stealth, then Kidney Shot - and the mob stands still for almost the whole fight. In the main build, 30 unlocks Blade Flurry; in Assassination - Mutilate. Leveling with “Combat: Daggers”? Reset your talents right here and spend them again (“Leveling talents”). You don't need Disarm Trap and Garrote for leveling: short on money - save 2 on them.

Dungeons: what to pick up in advance
Quests offered far from the entrance, and what a rogue does in a group
In Forever, experience from dungeon mobs is lower, while dungeon quests give 2–3 times the experience of normal ones (even after the beta bonus was cut in half). Going in without quests makes little sense - collect them in advance, but not earlier than needed: quests “for later” clog your log. In a group a rogue brings single-target damage and crowd control, and weapons from dungeon rewards beat almost everything vendors sell.
The rogue in a group: in short
Damage from behind, crowd control, no extra threat
Hit the marked target and only from behind: from the front the mob parries and dodges, and a parry also speeds up its next hit on the tank.
Sap - on a humanoid before the pull. In Forever it doesn't break stealth, so you can take one more out of the fight. Mark the sapped mob so nobody touches it.
Kick is your main button against casters: cultists and trogg shamans in Ragefire Chasm, Druids of the Fang in Wailing Caverns, worgen casters in Shadowfang Keep.
Feint (16) drops twice as much threat in Forever: use it on cooldown on bosses. Still pulled aggro? Evasion, from 22 - Vanish.
Expose Armor is strong in Forever and no longer gets in a warrior's way: put it on the boss even if your tank is a warrior.
Distract (22) turns a patrol away from your group, and in Forever it also lowers enemies' stealth detection.
Ragefire Chasm
13–18 · Orgrimmar, Cleft of Shadow · at 16 on this route
What to learn, what to hit with and how not to die - up to level 30
What changed in Forever: energy regenerates smoothly, and combo points don't vanish when you switch targets - they stay on the old one until you start building them on the new one. Backstab is weaker (the flat bonus was cut by a third), Rupture by about 40%. Sap no longer breaks stealth, Distract also lowers enemies' stealth detection, and Feint drops twice as much threat. Poisons still come through a chain from level 20, and the final quest gives you the skill right away; more charges, less damage per proc. Rogues got One-Handed Axes, and orcs know them from character creation, and the racial +1% crit no longer depends on the weapon. Blade Flurry and Mutilate are 21-point talents: they open exactly at 30.
Axe or dagger? For the main build - an axe in your main hand: with a slow axe Sinister Strike hits harder, and the racial +1% crit works the same with an axe, a sword and a dagger. Nothing to learn. In your off hand from level 10 - the fastest weapon with the best DPS, usually a dagger. You only need a dagger in your main hand for builds whose main strike is Backstab or Ambush (18): that's “Combat: Daggers” and “Subtlety: Ambush and Hemorrhage”.
Up to level 20 all ranks cost about 3 gold, and from 20 to 30 about 13 gold more (prices from Wowhead Forever). And save up: at 40 riding training will most likely cost about 100 gold, as in Classic.
Horde rogue trainers: Rwag in the Valley of Trials (up to level 6), Kaplak in Razor Hill, Shenthul , Gest and Ormok in Orgrimmar's Cleft of Shadow, and three more in the Rogues' Quarter of Undercity. There are no rogue trainers in the Barrens, Stonetalon, Ashenvale or Thousand Needles, so the route takes you to them on its own: Orgrimmar at 12, 16, 20, 22, 28 and 30, Undercity at 24 and 26. According to Wowhead, the new Boarton Shadetotem trains rogues in Thunder Bluff - not checked in game yet.
Poisons
The chain from level 20, the poisons themselves at about 25
Poisons skill only grows by crafting and is capped at 5 × your level. Make cheap poisons regularly, or you won't have 120 at 28.
Reagents and vials according to the game files: Rekkul in the Cleft of Shadow, Hula'mahi at the Crossroads, Ezekiel Graves in Undercity, Smudge Thunderwood at Ravenholdt. Check on the spot what's actually for sale on the beta.
Weapons along the way
An axe in the main hand, a dagger in the off hand - what to take from rewards and vendors
24–26, Tarren Mill: according to the game files, Ott sells Callous Axe (15.0, speed 2.8, +8 attack power, from 24) - check whether it's actually for sale.
4 builds with a talent tree and the order by level
The main one is “Combat: Main-Hand Axe”: Endurance at 22–23, Blade Flurry at 30. Also “Assassination: Mutilate at 30” (Mutilate), “Combat: Daggers” and “Subtlety: Ambush and Hemorrhage”.
All builds, the tree and the point order are in the “Leveling talents” section.
How not to die
No healing of your own - you have bandages and cooldowns
Gouge → bandage → back into the fight. Damage interrupts the bandage, so take the mob out first.
Sap on one of two humanoids - in Forever you don't drop out of stealth after it.
Blood Fury - +10% attack power for 15 seconds, and no healing penalty in Forever: use it at the start of a tough fight. Hardiness makes stuns on you 20% shorter, Shatter Curse removes curses and cuts magic damage by 5% for 8 seconds.
From 22 - Vanish: the mob loses you, and slows come off. You won't have Blind before 30: in Forever, as in Classic, it's only taught at 34.
A known beta bug: mobs can parry from behind if you stand right up against them. Hit from the edge of melee range.
⚒︎
Professions and camping
What to take, where to learn it and what to collect - up to level 30
Advice for a rogue: Skinning + Mining, plus First Aid and Cooking. Hides and ore are money for skills, and by 40 you'll need about 100 gold for riding. In Forever both professions have camping buffs: the Skinning chair gives +2% crit chance, the Mining magnet gives attack power. The second option is Skinning + Leatherworking: you make your own leather with Agility, but you earn less.
Camp buffs last an hour: the miner's lodestone (+attack power), the skinner's camp chair (+2% crit), the first aid kit (+Stamina). They don't stack with similar class buffs.
Sit by any campfire for a minute, even someone else's - you get a buff for an hour.
Cooking and First Aid
In Forever any cooked food gives +5% experience from kills for 15 minutes - always eat.
For a rogue, bandages are the main healing: Gouge, then a bandage. Linen Bandage from Linen Cloth, from skill 40 - Heavy Linen Bandage, then wool ones. In Forever, First Aid also makes healing potions.
20–30: Medium Leather from skinning, Tin Ore in the hills of Hillsbrad and Ashenvale.
New in Forever: a Durotar Supply and Logistics camp near the Crossroads. Fill the crates you find in the world with ore or hides and turn them in for a currency - it buys leatherworking patterns with Agility.
Money
Sell gray items at every stop; hides, ore and cloth go to the Orgrimmar auction house.
Pick the pockets of humanoids: coins and locked lockboxes, and your Lockpicking grows along the way.
Don't buy a weapon from a vendor if a quest one is 1–2 levels away (the list is in the “Rogue” section).
Aim for about 10 gold saved by level 30: riding at 40 will most likely cost about 100 gold, as in Classic.

What's new in Forever
Only what matters for this route
Beta data (build 1.60.1, as of October 16, 2026, beta level cap 30): the Wowhead Forever database, Blizzard patch notes, the Questie database and the RestedXP route for Forever. Things may change before the November 4 launch.
What stayed the samebeta data
The old Durotar, Orgrimmar and Barrens quests are all still there, with the same coordinates, and the experience needed per level hasn't changed.
The rogue class quests are the same as in Classic: Wowhead Forever marks them “unchanged”. Only one thing is new: Hinott's Assistance[20] now gives you the Poisons skill directly, and Ravenholdt has a new Syndicate Sabotage[24].
No new flight paths for the Horde in 1–30. The hearthstone is once an hour.
Ruins of Lordaeron - a new dungeon above Undercity, 6 bosses in any order, at 24 on this route (step). In Mulgore, on Skywatcher Plateau - a new Earthen Ring camp with three level 30 quests (step).
The rogue in Foreverofficial
Energy regenerates smoothly, with no ticks. Combo points don't vanish when you switch targets.
Sap doesn't break stealth; Distract lowers enemies' stealth detection; Feint drops twice as much threat; Expose Armor is stronger and doesn't get in a warrior's way.
The numbers were cut: Backstab is weaker (the flat bonus was cut by a third), Rupture by about 40%, and poisons hit a third weaker but have about 1.5 times more charges. You can now apply a poison on top of a sharpening stone.
Shatter Curse (new) - removes all curses with no immunity afterwards, -5% magic damage for 8 seconds, 3-minute cooldown.
On October 8 Blizzard said the orc and troll active racials might be too strong and promised changes - the numbers may change.
PvP and rulesetsofficial
Rulesets to choose from: “Normal” - PvP only if you want it (/pvp); “PvP” - your flag turns on by itself in contested and enemy zones; “RP” - same as Normal.
Horde territory on the 1–20 route: Durotar and the Barrens. Contested: Stonetalon (from 18), then Hillsbrad, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles.
Battlegrounds: Warsong Gulch from 10, Arathi Basin from 20, the new Darkspear Islands (15 vs 15) from 30. On the beta, according to testers, only the level 30 battleground is open.
For a rogue: Sap on a PvP-flagged player flags you too - on “Normal” realms as well. Since October 8, crits in PvP are no longer reduced, so your first strike from stealth decides a lot again.
Experience and conveniencesofficial
Cooked food gives +5% experience from kills. Camping buffs, the tent and the sleeping bag.
Dungeon quests give 2–3 times the experience of normal ones.
There's no automatic dungeon finder - only the bulletin board, and meeting stones don't summon.
The Legacy system: account-wide bonuses unlock once your first character reaches 25.

Tips and common mistakes
The hearthstone, dangerous mobs, what not to forget
1 - the Valley of Trials. ~7.5 - Razor Hill: northern Durotar doesn't need the hearthstone, and after Orgrimmar you can even walk to Razor Hill. ~12.8 - the Crossroads, until 22: the last time you hearth there is after Fizzle's tower.
~23 - Undercity: hearth there from Hillsbrad for the trainer and the zeppelin. ~27.6 - Splintertree Post: from Zoram'gar back to the Foulweald. ~29.7 - Freewind Post: from Orgrimmar after the level 30 trainer - back to Thousand Needles.
For short distances - a death run. Almost free until level 10; from 11 - “Resurrection Sickness” and -25% durability.
Stonetalon: Grimtotem casters, the elite Besseleth (without a partner - at 27), rare Venture Co. elites at Windshear Crag, Sorrow Wing and Sister Riven.
Hillsbrad: the Syndicate Shadow Mages in Durnholde, the level 28–30 dwarves at Dun Garok. Ashenvale: Keeper Ordanus with two guards, Eck'alom.
Common mistakes
A dagger in your main hand while your main strike is Sinister Strike: a slow axe hits harder, and the racial +1% crit doesn't depend on the weapon.
No second weapon after 10: your off hand is empty, and that's a big chunk of your damage.
The Shattered Hand[13]: you can only steal the key while the quest is in your log.
Evasion at the last few percent of health: use it as soon as you see the fight is tough.
No First Aid: without bandages a rogue spends a third of the time sitting.
Fighting higher-level mobs and elites solo: in Forever you miss them a lot - get a group.
Dungeon quests “for later” without a group: they sit in your log and take up space. No group - don't take them.
Made poisons and forgot about them: Instant Poison lasts 30 minutes or until the charges run out. When it falls off, apply it again; the NoPoizen addon reminds you (see the “Addons” section).
