Windshaper Shamans get their own earth and fire quests on Zephras Isle. This Horde WoW Forever route covers the island's new quests, the skycutter to Mulgore, and leveling to 30 through the Barrens, Stonetalon Mountains, the Eastern Kingdoms, Ashenvale, and Thousand Needles. It tracks all four totem items, Earth Totem, Fire Totem, Water Totem, and Air Totem, plus two-handers, Ghost Wolf, and keeping enough mana for the next fight.
Updated November 4, 2026 for Blizzard's November 2 changes: new Enhancement and Restoration + Weapon orders (instant Wolf moved to row 4), Call of Thunder instead of Lava Burst, stronger lightning and shocks.

What to install from CurseForge for Forever: the useful and the fun
Maps inside dungeons:Dungeon Crawler Forever shows floors, passages, bosses and quests. Open it with /dm. Its data changes with the beta: double-check quest requirements in game. More conveniences, screenshots and highlight commands - in the useful addons guide.
How to install. In the CurseForge app, add the game with the “+” button and point it to your Forever client folder - a Forever tab appears. Manually on the beta: the _classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns folder. Addons for regular Classic won't work - you need a file marked Forever (1.60.1). ★ - our pick.
Already in the game - no addon needed: coordinates on the map and minimap (turn them on in the settings), quest objectives on the map (the “Enhanced” template at first login, or the quest objectives option), a damage meter, a swing timer, the Cooldown Manager, one combined bag, an equipment manager and a modern auction house. Not in the game: a threat meter, markers for quests you haven't picked up yet, and a /way command.
Quests and map
★ Questie - who gives quests and where the objectives are, on the map and minimap. It still lacks some of the new Forever quests.
★ TomTom - an arrow to a point. The coordinates on this site copy as a /way command for it.
★ Leatrix Maps - reveals unexplored parts of the map, shows dungeon entrances, and the map can be enlarged.
Forever Quest Tint - tints the text of new Forever quests, so you see at a glance what's new.
Conveniences
★ Leatrix Plus - auto quest turn-in, junk selling, repairs, fast loot and dozens of small things. There's a separate version for Forever.
★ Baganator - proper bags and bank: the built-in combined bag can't be moved. A similar one - Bagnon.
★ Auctionator - posts auctions quickly, remembers prices and shows them in tooltips.
★ Platynator - draws neat bars above mobs and marks the ones you need for a quest. Very handy while leveling.
Professions
★ GatherLite - herbs, ore and fish on the map: it already ships with more than 26 thousand points made for Forever.
GatherMate2 - the same, but it only remembers points as you gather them yourself.
For fun: voiceover and dialogue
★ Spoken - English voiceover for quests, books and zones. On the Forever forums it gets the most praise: “like an audiobook”. More in the addons guide.
★ Immersion - movie-style NPC dialogue instead of the usual quest window.
Optional
Details! or ThreatClassic2 - threat in dungeons: the built-in damage meter doesn't show it.
Easy Experience Bar - experience per hour and how much is left to the next level.
Dungeon Journal - dungeon quests and loot: Forever has no dungeon journal of its own.
WeakAuras has no Forever version; use the fork ForeverAuras instead (it can do what the built-in Cooldown Manager sees).
For mail, instead of Postal try Forever Mail: recipient picker, mail history and attachment lists. More in the general addons guide.
Zygor and ElvUI aren't installed through CurseForge.
Combat “helpers” that do calculations are banned in Forever, as in the modern game: addons may display, but not calculate.
For Shamans
Forever's built-in totem bar already shows the totems you've placed and their timers, and a right-click removes a totem. The addons below add what it's missing.
Alchemy_ShamanTotemTimers - countdown numbers right on the built-in totem bar: the color changes as a totem runs out of time, and the icon pulses for the last 5 seconds. Made for Forever (file 1.60.1), fewer than 300 downloads so far.
Shaman Alert Forever - reminds you which element has no totem down and when your shield (Lightning Shield) has dropped, with an optional sound. /sa test - preview, /sa help - all commands. Forever 1.60.1 file from October 9. It doesn't notice a lost shield in combat yet.

How not to lose hours while leveling
Small things about your route, mobs, mana, and speed that add up to hours over a whole leveling run
Route
Running around eats roughly a third of all leveling time. So grab quests in bundles and finish them in one trip, with at least two or three objectives close together on the map.
Don't be afraid to drop a quest with a rare drop, an NPC who isn't there, or an objective on the far side of the zone. Leave escorts for the end of the loop, since they usually run through the same mobs the nearby quests need.
Heading to the next spot with full mana and health? Kill mobs on the way. You regenerate anyway, and a couple of extra mobs on every run adds up to hours by the end.
While a mob is dying, start walking to the next one. Finish off the last few percent with auto attacks or a wand instead of a big spell.
Which mobs
Green mobs die fast and are barely a threat, but in Forever they give 4-20% less XP than in Classic. Blizzard says that's intended. Look at XP per hour, not at the color.
Yellow and green mobs are a fine pick. Orange and red ones are almost always worse. There's no XP penalty, but you miss more, fights drag on, and your mana and health melt faster. The one exception is elite group quests, if you've got a group.
Supplies and timing
Always carry food and water, or you'll get stuck in the middle of a mob camp with empty bars. Addons that auto-sell gray items and auto-repair at a vendor save time too.
Use your Hearthstone and long-cooldown abilities on cooldown, not "for later." The perfect moment might never come.
Spirit is useful for everyone while leveling, because you spend less time sitting between fights. Got an item with Spirit that's a bit weaker on other stats? I'd keep it.
Build and trainer
Leveling talents aren't level 60 talents. While leveling, you're your own tank and healer, so defensive and recovery talents beat an extra percent of damage.
The Legacy perk "Thrill of Adventure" gives back up to 5% health and mana after you kill a mob that gives XP.
New ranks show up every 2 levels, but not every trip to the trainer is worth it. Check what you'll actually get, and don't fly to a capital for a rank that barely changes anything.
People
Buff someone who's passing by, and they'll probably return the favor.
Elite quests go faster with a partner, and on PvP servers it's a lot safer too.
DoTs
The free addon Does It Die shows whether the DoTs already ticking will finish the mob. If they will, a skull shows up on the target's portrait and you can move on to the next one. It's made for Forever, and the settings are under /did.
Speed
From 20, hop on Ghost Wolf for any run longer than half a minute.
✦
Leveling talents
Pick a build for 10-30 and follow its point order
You'll get your first talent point at 10 and have 21 by 30. I'd use Enhancement: Two-Hander. Method, wowforeverbuilds, and Mobalytics recommend it for the beta. Weapon swings do much of the leveling work, while lightning hits less hard than in Classic. Reset with a Shaman trainer, Kardris Dreamseeker in Orgrimmar or Siln Skychaser in Thunder Bluff. Beta resets cost 1 if you haven't reset recently. At launch, expect 1 gold or more. I'd keep that money for training by settling on a tree early. Hover a talent for its tooltip. The calculator button opens the same build and point order.
Enhancement: Two-Handermain0 / 21 / 0Crit, attack power from Intellect, and cheap shocks, with Stormstrike at 25. It's based on wowforeverbuilds and Method's advice, but since November 2 instant Wolf only comes at 26-27.
Cons: mana runs out fast before 20, and since November 2 instant Wolf only comes at 27. The beta tooltip for Stormstrike still says it "requires level 40", though testers at the level 30 cap use it. Check it yourself at 25.
Variant: don't need Wolf indoors? At 26-27, put the points into Flurry up to 5/5 instead of Improved Ghost Wolf: since November 2 that's +30% attack speed after a crit.
Elemental: Fire and Lightningcaster21 / 0 / 0Fighting from range: Searing Totem and Fire Nova. Before October 15, testers called Fire Nova the strongest Elemental spell before 30. The patch weakened it, but Call of Flame and Trial by Fire still come before lightning in this build.
Cons: lots of drinking, every tester agrees on that. Base lightning damage in Forever is lower than in Classic: it went up on November 2, but it's still about 78% of Classic. And instead of Lava Burst, you get Call of Thunder at 30 since November 2: +5% lightning crit. One level 30 tester suggests the first 11 points of Restoration (the "Restoration + Weapon" build) over Elemental for caster leveling.
Restoration + Meleehealer + solo0 / 10 / 11By 20 you're a full dungeon healer with mana, and you fight solo with your weapon. 11 points in Restoration, the rest is crit and attack power from Enhancement.
Restoration: Dungeon Healergroup0 / 0 / 21Pick this if most of your time is spent in a group. Start with the same 11 points, then take Healing Focus, Tidal Mastery 5/5, and Nature's Swiftness at 30.
With Healing Focus, incoming damage has a 70% chance not to push back your heal. Put 5/5 into Tidal Mastery for +5% healing crit. At 30, Nature's Swiftness gives an instant heal every 3 minutes. Save that one for the tank who's about to die.
Solo questing is slow, and getting the water totem takes a long chain. The route is in Shaman.
Skyborne starting area in northwestern Zephras Isle · first class quest
0 of 16
Start in Thendal Grove in northwestern Zephras Isle. Your earth chain begins here with Call of Earth[4], rewarding Earth Totem and Stoneskin Totem. Keep the Earth Totem or you can't place earth totems. Allow about 40-50 minutes to reach 5-6.
Don't forget in this section
Pick up Call of Earth[4] before you go to the standing stones: Signet of Akir only drops from the cultists while the quest is in your log.
Destin Thriceforged - weapons: Short Staff≈ 1 is a two-handed staff, and a Shaman can use those from the very start. Large Club≈ 70 is a two-handed mace: the Classic talent Two-Handed Axes and Maces became baseline in Forever, but nobody has checked on the beta whether you have the skill at level 1 - look in your skills window.
Before level 10, dying costs very little: no Resurrection Sickness, you just lose a little durability. From the Rise of Spirits and from the den, use a death skip to get back to the grove.
All of Zephras Isle is a sanctuary: there's no PvP here on any ruleset. Alliance Skyborne of the High Order quest nearby and kill the same mobs - whoever tags first gets the loot.
The Anchors of Zephras[2] didn't give credit before October 7. Still broken? Abandon it; it's worth 85 XP. Walk on Air stays useful: glide down island cliffs now, avoid lethal falls later.

Don't die here: the graveyard is far away and the run back is long. The bandits stand in pairs - drop Stoneskin Totem at your feet: it cuts the damage from both of them. Use Earthbind Totem only if you need to hold the second one back (it replaces Stoneskin Totem).
Totem of Charged Flames is a Shaman relic: Lightning Bolt and Flame Shock cost 5 less mana. Put it in the relic slot right away. According to beta comments, it was removed from this quest in early October, but the database says Call of Fire[10] gives it too, at level 10 (step).

If both come running - Stoneclaw Totem keeps one busy (it replaces Stoneskin Totem); kill the other one first and the leader last. If it gets bad, cast Healing Wave mid-fight while the totem holds one of them.
Serena, the Stonetalon border, the Grimtotem Tauren

Have the Thunder Bluff flight path? Fly from the Crossroads, that's fastest. If not, the shortest way on foot: south from the Crossroads to Taurajo, west into Mulgore, north along the road to Thunder Bluff and up the elevator.
Drops from:Deviate Hide - Deviate Coiler, Deviate Stinglash, Deviate Creeper and others · Gem of Cobrahn - Lord Cobrahn, Cobrahn Snake Form · Gem of Anacondra - Lady Anacondra · Gem of Pythas - Lord Pythas · Gem of Serpentis - Lord Serpentis · Wailing Essence - Devouring Ectoplasm, Evolving Ectoplasm, Nightmare Ectoplasm and others
The Druids of the Fang cast sleep and heal themselves: Tremor Totem removes sleep from the group, Earth Shock interrupts their heals. The snakes poison you - Cure Poison.
At 20 the trainer has Ghost Wolf - your main purchase until 40 - and over a dozen level 18 and 20 skills. So first, a short flight to Orgrimmar: Searn Firewarder gives the water totem quest there too. Then Ratchet (Islen Waterseer) and the Southern Barrens up to 21: Camp Taurajo, the Field of Giants, Brine in her hut and the elite Chol'aruk (only with a partner). Keep your hearthstone at the Crossroads.
Don't forget in this section
Chol'aruk the Ravener[21] - Chol'aruk (level 20 elite) with elite guards. Wrongly Blamed, Justly Corrected[23] - an elite level 23 pillager. With two people both quests go fast. Solo at 20-21 you have almost no chance: no partner - don't take either of them.
The chain for Water Totem is the longest a Shaman has: Islen Waterseer near Ratchet, Brine in the Southern Barrens, three waterskins - at her hut (step), in Tarren Mill (at 25) and in Ashenvale (at 28), and the finale in Silverpine Forest at 30 (optional). The route walks you through it on its own - just don't abandon the quests of the Call of Water[20] chain.
Tusks, heads and adornments only drop while you have the quests - take everything at Taurajo and the Crossroads before you go hunting.
Cloth from the Bristlebacks and Razormane goes into Wool Bandages. Don't sell the Blood Shards from the Bristlebacks: Mangletooth gives a Strength buff for them (step).

Leaving a quest spot? Totemic Recall: your totems are gone and a quarter of their mana comes back. It's new in Forever - press it every time.
⚔︎ PvP
The Alliance needs Chol'aruk too - they have their own version of the quest. Someone hanging around his camp isn't necessarily a partner. On PvP realms in the Barrens it's the Alliance players who are flagged, not you.
From 20 you have Frost Shock. Jumped by an Alliance Rogue or Warrior? Slow them by 50% and step back to heal. Leveling as "Enhancement" (our build)? From 27, Ghost Wolf is instant (on November 2 Improved Ghost Wolf moved to row 4), so you can wolf out straight from combat. About 212 in total; Flametongue Weapon, Frostbrand Weapon and the new Call of the Elements can wait (see the "Shaman" section). Wowhead lists "Orc, Tauren, Troll" for the whole chain, but the RestedXP route for Forever takes every Shaman through it, Skyborne included (not through the fire chain, though). Searn Firewarder didn't give you the quest? Fly to Ratchet anyway (step): according to the Questie database, Islen Waterseer gives Call of Water[22] without the letter too.
Call of Water[22] leads to the Southern Barrens, where Brine takes it (step). If Islen Waterseer doesn't offer Call of Water[22], the water chain is closed to Skyborne: skip all the steps of the Call of Water[20] chain and let us know so we can fix the guide.
Wrongly Blamed, Justly Corrected[23] has an elite level 23 pillager and level 22-23 Alliance soldiers: solo at 20-21 you have almost no chance. The reward is worth it - Encroacher's Claim, a two-handed axe with 19.7 damage per second.
Letter to Jin'Zil[20] is a letter to Stonetalon; you'll deliver it on the next loop (step).

Chol'aruk is a level 20 elite, and his guards are elite too: only with a partner. Drop your totems before the pull; if your partner is in trouble - Lesser Healing Wave. Didn't work out? Abandon Chol'aruk the Ravener[21]: the quest doesn't unlock anything.
How to do this quest - Chol'aruk the Ravener
The lair is a cave, entrance . Inside are level 18-20 elites, but they're spread out: go around them along the edge and you'll reach him with almost no fights. He has about 5.5k health.

How to do this quest - Gerenzo's Orders
Two waves: first three level 21 fighters, then two fighters and two casters of level 22-23. Very hard solo at 21 - bring a friend.

A group of five, six bosses in any order. The quests are level 21-22, and dungeon quests in Forever give 2-3 times the experience of normal ones - one of the most rewarding stops in 20-30. The main thing here for a Shaman is the reward from The Wrath of Rath'mael[22]: Forsaken Greataxe (a two-handed axe with 20.5 DPS, +8 Strength) or Gnarled Necromancer's Staff (a healer's staff). No group for the Ruins? Go from the Sepulcher straight to Hillsbrad (step).
The Alliance has quests in the Ruins of Lordaeron too - their groups run across all of Tirisfal to the gates of Undercity. This is your land with guards nearby: on PvP realms it's their flag that's up, not yours.
For melee - Forsaken Greataxe: the best two-hander on the route until 26 (needs Two-Handed Axes). For a healer and Elemental - Gnarled Necromancer's Staff: +10 Spirit and spell power.

⚔︎ PvP
Tarren Mill versus Southshore is the classic faction war. In Forever the Alliance quests here from 21 to 30 and goes to the town hall in Hillsbrad Fields - the same place where you kill the farmers. An Alliance Rogue waits until you're locked in a fight with a footman: Cure Poison removes his poison, Lightning Shield hits him for every hit he lands, and Frost Shock keeps him from running away.
Beta chases often end at a zone border, where the other player can disappear into a different layer. That's another copy of the zone. A border may help you escape, but chasing someone across it can waste your time.
According to beta data, the exact spot where Deathstalker Masoj stands is still being confirmed - follow the quest marker. South of the vantage point, in Dun Garok itself , there are level 28-30 dwarves, and the riflemen shoot from range: approach the vantage point from the north and don't go down.
How to do this quest - Scout Support
According to a tester's comment, the quest only opens after the second “Battle of Hillsbrad” (level 25): if High Executor Darthalia doesn't offer it, turn that one in and ask again. Deathstalker Masoj himself stands alone on a hill north of Nethander Stead .

Ohanko , from 30: Bullova (a two-handed axe, despite the name) and War Hammer - 22.4 and 22.3 DPS with no bonuses. Have Merciless Axe or Forsaken Greataxe? Don't spend the money: with their Strength they're no weaker.

Level 30 - battlegrounds. On the beta the new battleground Darkspear Islands, 15 vs 15, opens at 30. Battlemasters in the capitals queue you, and there's also a portal in the Darkspear Raiders camp north of Ratchet . Don't fall into the water - testers complain about sharks.
Grounding Totem absorbs one harmful spell and breaks: against a Mage, Priest or Warlock, drop it first, then attack.

Air totem: at 30, judging by beta data, the game itself offers a Skyborne Shaman !Call of Air[35] - a quest window with no NPC, like Call of Fire[10] at 10. Accept it.
The databases list no NPC that gives Call of Air[35], so the window most likely pops up on its own. No window? There's the classic version: Xanis Flameweaver on Spirit Rise in Thunder Bluff gives Call of Air[30] (next step). Wowhead lists "Orc, Tauren, Troll" for it, so it most likely won't be offered to Skyborne; if you get neither, let us know.
Took Call of Air[30]? Turn it in to her too. Going down - Walk on Air: the fall won't kill you.

What's next (30+): the rest of Thousand Needles, Ordanus[29] → The Den[29] in Stonetalon, the Shimmering Flats, Hillsbrad and Arathi, "Excavation Site: Wetlands" and the Scarlet Monastery. For a Shaman - the end of the water chain (you can do it now too) and a new Forever 30-40 chain: according to beta data, it starts at Freewind Post - Rau Cliffrunner, Elemental Aid[33]. That will be the next part of the guide.
The last step of the water chain is in Silverpine Forest, and the 20-30 route doesn't go back there. You can go right away at 30: an estimated 45-60 minutes of flights and zeppelins and about 3 thousand experience (level 23 quests). No rush - do it at 30+ on your way to the Scarlet Monastery: it's the same trip. Healing dungeons? Go now: Healing Stream Totem, Mana Spring Totem, and Poison Cleansing Totem can only be placed with Water Totem in your bags.
Don't forget in this section
Drink the sapta (Water Sapta) by the lake west of the Sepulcher: without it you can't see the elementals.
On the tower near Brill you want the zeppelin to Orgrimmar - Zapetta.
Don't drink the sapta yet - you need it at the brazier (step). If you lose it, Islen Waterseer gives you a new one (Water Sapta[20]).

Bragok: fly to Orgrimmar. The zeppelin tower by the gates : Frezza sends you to Undercity - that's yours; Snurk Bucksquick goes to Grom'gol - not that one. Undercity, Michael Garrett: fly to the Sepulcher.
If the spirit vanishes before you talk to it, Tiev Mordune is nearby: Call of Water[23] - but it needs a new Water Sapta, and only Islen Waterseer (Water Sapta[20]) in Ratchet gives one - that's another round trip by zeppelin. So come to the brazier at full health and talk to the spirit right away.
Put Healing Stream Totem or Mana Spring Totem down at a quest spot together with your earth and fire totems: only one water totem can be up at a time too. Leveling as "Restoration: Dungeon Healer"? Your first point after 30 goes into Mana Tide Totem: it works once you have the water totem.

Dungeons: what to pick up in advance
Quests offered far from the entrance, and the Shaman in a group
In Forever, experience from dungeon mobs is lower, while dungeon quests give 2-3 times the experience of normal ones (even after the beta bonus was cut in half). Going in without quests makes little sense - collect them in advance, but not earlier than needed: quests "for later" clog your log. In a group a Shaman is a healer, a fighter and totems all in one: groups without a healer pick you first.
Shaman in a group: the short version
Heal, interrupt, cleanse, drop totems
Any spec can heal until 30.Healing Wave between packs and on the tank, and from 20 Lesser Healing Wave for damage spikes. Healing power on Forever gear is higher than in Classic. Restoration heals best (builds in the "Talents" section). In the other specs keep a mana reserve and don't do damage yourself.
Interrupt - Earth Shock: it interrupts the cast and locks a whole school of magic for 2 seconds. Rank 1 interrupts just as well as the highest rank and costs many times less. Shocks share a 6-second cooldown - save a shock for the cast, not for damage.
Cleanse and cure:Purge (12) removes a buff from an enemy - a shield or a heal over time. Cure Poison (16) - poisons, Cure Disease (22) - diseases. Ancestral Spirit (12) brings the fallen back after the fight.
Threat:Earth Shock and Fire Nova generate a lot of threat, and in Forever Fire Nova puts the threat on the Shaman, not the totem (according to Method). In the first seconds of a fight, don't press them until the tank has gathered everything.
Ragefire Chasm
13-18 · Orgrimmar, Cleft of Shadow · at 16 on this route
The Druids of the Fang cast sleep and heal themselves: Tremor Totem removes sleep, Earth Shock interrupts the heal. For poisons - Cure Poison. Two-Handed Maces are taught by Ansekhwa in Thunder Bluff.
Blueleaf Tubers[26] - Mebok Mizzyrix, RatchetAfter 20 you're in Ratchet only once (step): the quest would sit in your log for 9 levels, and the route doesn't come back there to turn it in - don't take it
What to learn, what to hit with and how to keep your mana from running dry - up to level 30
Totems have a 1-second GCD and a dedicated bar. Buff totems last 5 minutes instead of 2 and reach 30 yards instead of 20. Weapon imbues last an hour, up from 5 minutes, and stack with sharpening stones and weightstones. Learn Fire Nova at 12. It's a spell that blasts around your fire totem. Trainers offer Totemic Recall and Call of the Elements at 20, Totemic Call at 22, and Call of the Ancestors at 30. Rank 3+ damage and healing spells are weaker than Classic, though gear has more spell power. Before November 2, Lightning Bolt at 20 dealt 59-67 instead of 88-100, and Lightning Bolt at 26 dealt 79-90 instead of 131-149. On November 2 lightning got stronger: each rank now does about 78% of its Classic damage, and shocks hit as hard as in Classic. Carry the totem items to use their elements.
Keep Rockbiter Weapon on your weapon. Pull with Lightning Bolt, or use instant Flame Shock from 20 yards once you're 10, then swing your two-hander. Save Earth Shock for a cast or a runner. Put Lightning Shield up before pulling, and drop a totem at the quest spot instead of recasting for each mob. Between fights, use a low-rank Healing Wave below half health and drink below a third of your mana. For two mobs, use Earthbind Totem on the add. For three, use Stoneclaw Totem instead, since they share the earth slot. With our Enhancement build, Shamanistic Focus cuts shock costs by 45% from 20, making Earth Shock affordable on routine pulls.
Prices are from the trainer list on Wowhead Forever (beta). Everything up to level 20 costs about 5 gold, and from 22 to 30 about 16 more, almost 6 of it at 30. Skip what can wait, and the water totems until Water Totem is in your bags - you'll save a few gold. Horde Shaman trainers: on the island Windshaper Boro (only up to 6), Aarnor Galestrike and Sessaria Skystride . Palah Thunderhoof on Skywatcher Plateau. Kardris Dreamseeker in Orgrimmar, Swart in Razor Hill, Narm Skychaser in Bloodhoof Village, Siln Skychaser in Thunder Bluff. There are no Shaman trainers in the Barrens, Stonetalon, Ashenvale, Thousand Needles or the Eastern Kingdoms - the route takes you to them on its own: the island at 6-12, Orgrimmar at 13-14, 16 and 20 (step), Thunder Bluff at 22 (step), Orgrimmar at 26 - your 24 and 26 skills (step), Skywatcher Plateau at 28 (step) and Thunder Bluff at 30 (step).
Totems and totem quests
No totem item - no totems of that element
Keep the totem items in your bags. Earth needs Earth Totem, fire and Fire Nova need Fire Totem, water needs Water Totem, and air needs Air Totem. Selling one locks you out of that element, just as in Classic.
Water, 20-30: the beta databases don't have a separate water chain for Skyborne yet, so it's the classic one: Call of Water[20] (Searn Firewarder, Orgrimmar, at 20) → Islen Waterseer near Ratchet (step) → Brine in the Southern Barrens → three waterskins: the watering hole by her hut (at 21), the well in Tarren Mill (at 25), the fountain in the Ruins of Stardust in Ashenvale (at 28) → the vial goes to Islen Waterseer → the water manifestation in Silverpine Forest → Call of Water[23]: Healing Stream Totem and Water Totem. The 20-30 route doesn't cover the last stretch: go at 30 (optional) or at 30+. Wowhead lists "Orc, Tauren, Troll" for these quests, while Questie allows the whole Horde - whether Skyborne can do the chain hasn't been checked on the beta.
Put Searing Totem behind you, clear of neighboring camps. It attacks the nearest enemy within 20 yards, which can turn a comfortable pull into a mess.
Weapons and skills
A two-handed mace or axe is what matters
In Forever a Shaman's melee weapon is a two-hander: the Classic talent Two-Handed Axes and Maces became baseline. Nobody has checked on the beta whether you have Two-Handed Maces and Two-Handed Axes from level 1 - look in your skills window. If not, Two-Handed Maces are taught by Ansekhwa in Thunder Bluff (on your way, at 13), and Two-Handed Axes by Hanashi and Sayoc in Orgrimmar, 10 each.
In Forever, staves are caster weapons: less DPS, but they have spell power. For melee, take a mace or an axe of the same level. A staff with spell power is for healers and Elemental.
A new skill starts at 1: level it on lower-level mobs before you take the weapon into a serious fight.
Keep Rockbiter Weapon up until 30. It adds +79 attack power from 8, +118 from 16, and +194 from 24. If you follow our Enhancement build, Elemental Weapons adds another 20%. Fire resistance cuts into Flametongue Weapon, which generally needs a very slow weapon to catch up. At 30, switch to Windfury Weapon on a slow two-hander. These enchants last an hour.
Armor - leather (and a shield for healers: Windshaped Shield from the island). Just like in Classic, a Shaman can only wear mail from 40 (not checked in Forever): don't take mail rewards before 40.
Weightstones for maces and sharpening stones for axes stack with Shaman weapon enchants in Forever. Use both for extra damage on your swings.
Shocks and mana
A Shaman's main worry before 30
Spirit-based mana regen stops for 5 seconds after you spend mana. Cast your shield, totem, and shock together, then let your weapon do the work for a while. Spreading those casts out keeps resetting the wait.
Use Lightning Bolt to pull. Beta players describe 1-20 as an auto-attack simulator and the bolt as a wet noodle. Casting it in melee eats the mana you'll want for a heal.
Shocks share a 6-second cooldown, so plan around one per mob. Pull instantly with Flame Shock from 20 yards, save Earth Shock to interrupt or finish a runner, and use Frost Shock from 20 for a 50% slow.
Keep rank 1 Earth Shock on a separate key. In Classic, you show all ranks in the spellbook and drag rank 1 onto the bar. Check that setting in the Forever client. The low rank interrupts just as well and costs far less mana.
Cast Lightning Shield before pulling. It has three charges and lasts 10 minutes, so you don't need to refresh it for each mob.
Buy water for your level from innkeepers. There's Ice Cold Milk from 5, Melon Juice from 15, and Sweet Nectar from 25. Below a third of your mana? Drink, and eat at the same time if you need health.
From 20, use Totemic Recall before leaving a quest spot. Picking up your totems returns a quarter of their mana cost.
Healing and how not to die
You have your own heal from level 1
Match the heal to your missing health. Rank 3 Healing Wave heals half as much as rank 4 Healing Wave, but costs half the mana and takes 2.5 seconds instead of 3. Efficiency per health is the same. You're saving the mana that would otherwise become overhealing. Between pulls, wait until you're below half health.
Use Lesser Healing Wave from 20 if you're about to die in combat. It's quick, but expensive.
Learn First Aid. Bandages restore health without spending your casting mana. Trainers and supplies are in Professions.
From 30 - Reincarnation: you get back up where you died. It needs Ankh - reagent vendors sell it. The price in Forever hasn't been checked.
Getting around: the wolf and Skyborne racials
No mount until 40
Ghost Wolf from 20: +40% run speed, a 3-second cast, outdoors only. In "Enhancement" (our build), Improved Ghost Wolf 2/2 at 26-27 makes Wolf instant and usable indoors: on November 2 the talent moved to row 4. The other builds don't have it, so cast Wolf ahead of time, before a fight.
Before 20, use Skysight for +15% movement speed for 15 seconds. Charged from an Elemental Convergence raises that to +30%. It doesn't stack with the wolf.
Use Walk on Air for a 10-second glide down cliffs on the island, in Stonetalon, or in Thousand Needles. It saves the fall damage.
At 30, Astral Recall gives you another hearth with a 15-minute cooldown.
Talents 10-30
4 builds with a talent tree and the order by level
Main build: "Enhancement: Two-Hander", with Shamanistic Focus at 20, Stormstrike at 25, and instant Wolf at 26-27. There's also Elemental for casters and two Restoration builds for dungeons.
All builds, the tree and the point order are in the "Leveling talents" section.
⚒︎
Professions and camping
What to take, where to learn it and what to collect - up to level 30
Advice for a Shaman: Mining + Skinning, plus First Aid and Cooking. On the road, Mining gives you a lodestone (+melee attack power) and Skinning a stool (+2% crit), and together they bring in money for a mount at 40. The second option is Skinning + Leatherworking: your own leather armor and a tent. Blacksmithing makes weightstones and sharpening stones, which stack with Shaman enchants in Forever, but it's expensive to level.
Camp buffs last an hour: the Mining lodestone (+attack power), the Skinning stool (+2% crit), the First Aid kit (+Stamina), the Herbalism candle (+Intellect. With the Mental Dexterity talent that's attack power too). They don't stack with similar class buffs.
Sit by any campfire for a minute, even someone else's - you get a buff for an hour.
In Forever, First Aid also makes healing potions. Bandages: Linen Bandage from linen, from skill 40 - Heavy Linen Bandage, then wool ones. A bandage heals without mana.
20-30: Tin Ore and Silver Ore - for the auction house. Leather - for Leatherworking or to sell.
Money
Sell gray items at every stop. Ore, hides and cloth go to the Orgrimmar auction house.
Don't buy a weapon from a vendor if a quest one is 1-2 levels away (the list is in the "Shaman" section).
Shaman training up to 30 costs about 21 gold, 16 of it at 22-30. Aim for about 10 gold saved by 30: riding at 40 will most likely cost about 100 gold, as in Classic.

What's new in Forever
Only what matters for this route
Beta data (build 1.60.1, as of October 13, 2026, beta level cap 30): the Wowhead Forever database, Blizzard developer notes, the article on the Mage and Shaman (October 7), the Questie database and the RestedXP route for Skyborne. Things may change before the November 4 launch.
Zephras Islebeta data
The new Skyborne starting zone for 1-13: 90 quests in the Questie database, and about 43 thousand experience from quests alone on the Horde side. Thendal Grove → Shen'dar Village → Falaath → Valanaar → Shadowgale Forest → Shrine of Akir.
The whole island is a sanctuary: no PvP. There are no flight paths - you get around on foot, with death skips, by jumping off cliffs (Walk on Air) and through tornadoes (+40% run speed for 5 minutes).
You leave on the skycutter from Valanaar's western dock to Skywatcher Plateau in Mulgore. There you'll find the new Shaman trainer Palah Thunderhoof and Alaana Stormwalker with your next quest.
Weapon enchants last 60 minutes and stack with stones, weightstones and oils. Fire Nova is a spell from 12, a blast around your fire totem.
Base lightning damage at ranks 3+ is lower than in Classic (on November 2 it went up to 78% of Classic), and Lightning Bolt has a 2.5-second cast. Since November 2 shocks hit as hard as in Classic. Staves became caster weapons (less damage, with spell power).
Testers praise the totems and the quality-of-life changes, and the most popular reply to the October 7 article is "nothing for Shamans". Every beta guide recommends leveling as Enhancement with a two-hander.
Skyborne: the Windshapersbeta data
Descendants of the Highborne who rose up in Eldre'Thalas. For thousands of years they lived on an island in the Skywall, the Elemental Plane of Air. The Windshapers are the spiritual leaders of the people, and they joined the Horde through the Earthen Ring. Skyborne can only be Shamans on the Horde side.
Wind Blessed - +2% attack and casting speed. Elemental Insight - +5% damage against elementals: there are lots of them on the island, but few after that.
Skysight - +15% run speed for 15 seconds, +30% with the Charged buff from an Elemental Convergence. It doesn't work together with the wolf (Ghost Wolf). Walk on Air - 10 seconds of gliding that saves you from dying in a fall.
Beta players called the Skyborne racials weak, and on October 15 they were buffed: the haste went up to 3%, "Walk on Air" has a 90-second cooldown, and "Skysight" can be used on the move. On October 26 the haste was cut back to 2%, and "Skysight" and "Read Leyline" were reworked: a short 15-second effect plus an hour-long buff at an Elemental Convergence or a Ley Line.
PvP and rulesetsofficial
Rulesets to choose from: "Normal" - PvP only if you want it (/pvp). "PvP" - your flag turns on by itself in contested and enemy zones. "RP" - same as Normal.
Zephras Isle is a sanctuary. Horde territory on the 1-20 route: Durotar and the Barrens. Contested: Stonetalon (from 18), then Hillsbrad, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles.
Battlegrounds: Warsong Gulch from 10, Arathi Basin from 20, the new Darkspear Islands (15 vs 15) from 30. On the beta, according to testers, only the level 30 battleground is open.
For a Shaman: keep Earth Shock for interrupts - rank 1 interrupts heals and fears just like the highest rank. Purge - against Priest shields and Paladin blessings. From 18, Tremor Totem removes fear.
Experience and conveniencesofficial
Cooked food gives +5% experience from kills. Camping buffs, the tent and the sleeping bag.
Dungeon quests give 2-3 times the experience of normal ones.
There's no automatic dungeon finder - only the bulletin board, and meeting stones don't summon.
The Legacy system: account-wide bonuses unlock once your first character reaches 25.
Playing with friends who share a language? Pick your preferred language in the settings: you'll land in the same world layer as its speakers more often.
What stayed the samebeta data
The old Orgrimmar and Barrens quests are all still there, with the same coordinates, and the experience needed per level hasn't changed.
The classic Horde Shaman trainers are still in place, plus the island trainers and Palah Thunderhoof. The hearthstone cooldown is an hour.
Mounts still come at level 40.

Tips and common mistakes
The hearthstone, dangerous mobs, what not to forget
1 - Thendal Grove. ~5.5 - Shen'dar Village: back from the Falaath ruins. ~9 - Valanaar: from the orchard at 10 and from Shadowgale Forest at ~12. ~14 - the Crossroads, until level 20.
22.6 - Undercity: from Dun Garok to the zeppelin home. 27.6 - Splintertree Post: from Zoram'gar to the Foulweald. 29.8 - Freewind Post: Astral Recall brings you back there at 30.
For short distances - a death skip. Almost free until 10. From 11 - "Resurrection Sickness" and -25% durability.
From 30 a Shaman has a second hearthstone - Astral Recall, with a 15-minute cooldown.
Leaving the island without the fire totem quest: the classic fire chain is for Orcs, Tauren and Trolls, and Searing Totem and Fire Nova require Fire Totem.
Leveling with Lightning Bolt at 1-20: in Forever it's even weaker than in Classic. Hit with your weapon. Lightning Bolt is only for pulling.
A totem for every mob: in Forever totems last 5 minutes and work within 30 yards - put them down at the quest spot, and when you leave, press Totemic Recall (from 20).
