Don't buy an axe before learning how to swing it. This Gnome Warrior begins with a sword and shield, trains Axes in Ironforge, and then follows two-handed upgrades through Dun Morogh and Loch Modan. Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood, and the Wetlands take you toward 30. We'll cover Defensive Stance, Umbral weapons, the class shield, and the separate Berserker Stance trip. Dungeon branches are optional.
Updated November 4, 2026 for Blizzard's November 2 changes: new Arms and Cruelty orders (Improved Tactical Mastery now has 3 ranks), Defensive Stance threat and the Slam cooldown.

What to install from CurseForge for Forever: the useful and the fun
Maps inside dungeons:Dungeon Crawler Forever shows floors, passages, bosses and quests. Open it with /dm. Its data changes with the beta: double-check quest requirements in game. More conveniences, screenshots and highlight commands - in the useful addons guide.
How to install. In the CurseForge app, add the game with the “+” button and point it to your Forever client folder - a Forever tab appears. Manually on the beta: the _classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns folder. Addons for regular Classic won't work - you need a file marked Forever (1.60.1). ★ - our pick.
Already in the game - no addon needed: coordinates on the map and minimap (turn them on in the settings), quest objectives on the map (the “Enhanced” template at first login, or the quest objectives option), a damage meter, a swing timer, the Cooldown Manager, one combined bag, an equipment manager and a modern auction house. Not in the game: a threat meter, markers for quests you haven't picked up yet, and a /way command.
Quests and map
★ Questie - who gives quests and where the objectives are, on the map and minimap. It still lacks some of the new Forever quests.
★ TomTom - an arrow to a point. The coordinates on this site copy as a /way command for it.
★ Leatrix Maps - reveals unexplored parts of the map, shows dungeon entrances, and the map can be enlarged.
Forever Quest Tint - tints the text of new Forever quests, so you see at a glance what's new.
Conveniences
★ Leatrix Plus - auto quest turn-in, junk selling, repairs, fast loot and dozens of small things. There's a separate version for Forever.
★ Baganator - proper bags and bank: the built-in combined bag can't be moved. A similar one - Bagnon.
★ Auctionator - posts auctions quickly, remembers prices and shows them in tooltips.
★ Platynator - draws neat bars above mobs and marks the ones you need for a quest. Very handy while leveling.
Professions
★ GatherLite - herbs, ore and fish on the map: it already ships with more than 26 thousand points made for Forever.
GatherMate2 - the same, but it only remembers points as you gather them yourself.
For fun: voiceover and dialogue
★ Spoken - English voiceover for quests, books and zones. On the Forever forums it gets the most praise: “like an audiobook”. More in the addons guide.
★ Immersion - movie-style NPC dialogue instead of the usual quest window.
Optional
Details! or ThreatClassic2 - threat in dungeons: the built-in damage meter doesn't show it.
Easy Experience Bar - experience per hour and how much is left to the next level.
Dungeon Journal - dungeon quests and loot: Forever has no dungeon journal of its own.
WeakAuras has no Forever version; use the fork ForeverAuras instead (it can do what the built-in Cooldown Manager sees).
For mail, instead of Postal try Forever Mail: recipient picker, mail history and attachment lists. More in the general addons guide.
Zygor and ElvUI aren't installed through CurseForge.
Combat “helpers” that do calculations are banned in Forever, as in the modern game: addons may display, but not calculate.
For warriors
OverpowerAlert - a sound and on-screen text when Overpower lights up after your target dodges; it also warns you when Revenge is ready. Settings - /opa. Made for Forever (file from October 12), about 1.2 thousand downloads.
WeaponSwingTimer - Queuing - a swing bar that changes color while Heroic Strike or Cleave is queued. It also shows when to press Slam so you don't clip your swing. Forever's built-in attack timer doesn't show the queue. There's a Forever file.
Tanking dungeons? Install a threat meter from the “Optional” card: the built-in damage meter doesn't show threat.
⏱︎
How not to lose hours while leveling
Small things about your route, mobs, mana, and speed that add up to hours over a whole leveling run
Route
Running around eats roughly a third of all leveling time. So grab quests in bundles and finish them in one trip, with at least two or three objectives close together on the map.
Don't be afraid to drop a quest with a rare drop, an NPC who isn't there, or an objective on the far side of the zone. Leave escorts for the end of the loop, since they usually run through the same mobs the nearby quests need.
Heading to the next spot with full mana and health? Kill mobs on the way. You regenerate anyway, and a couple of extra mobs on every run adds up to hours by the end.
While a mob is dying, start walking to the next one. Finish off the last few percent with auto attacks or a wand instead of a big spell.
Which mobs
Green mobs die fast and are barely a threat, but in Forever they give 4-20% less XP than in Classic. Blizzard says that's intended. Look at XP per hour, not at the color.
Yellow and green mobs are a fine pick. Orange and red ones are almost always worse. There's no XP penalty, but you miss more, fights drag on, and your mana and health melt faster. The one exception is elite group quests, if you've got a group.
Supplies and timing
Always carry food and water, or you'll get stuck in the middle of a mob camp with empty bars. Addons that auto-sell gray items and auto-repair at a vendor save time too.
Use your Hearthstone and long-cooldown abilities on cooldown, not "for later." The perfect moment might never come.
Spirit is useful for everyone while leveling, because you spend less time sitting between fights. Got an item with Spirit that's a bit weaker on other stats? I'd keep it.
Build and trainer
Leveling talents aren't level 60 talents. While leveling, you're your own tank and healer, so defensive and recovery talents beat an extra percent of damage.
The Legacy perk "Thrill of Adventure" gives back up to 5% health and mana after you kill a mob that gives XP.
New ranks show up every 2 levels, but not every trip to the trainer is worth it. Check what you'll actually get, and don't fly to a capital for a rank that barely changes anything.
People
Buff someone who's passing by, and they'll probably return the favor.
Elite quests go faster with a partner, and on PvP servers it's a lot safer too.
Speed
Use Charge on mobs along the way. It comes back quickly and cuts down on walking.
➜
Following the route
Main route, 1-20: Coldridge Valley → Kharanos and western Dun Morogh → eastern Dun Morogh → Defensive Stance at 11-12 (Ironforge, Vejrek in the west, Ironband's Compound in the east) → Loch Modan → Stormwind → Westfall → Redridge. For 20-30: the Warrior shield quest in Redridge (step) → Duskwood → another Redridge circuit → Stalvan and Stormwind at 24 → the Wetlands via Ironforge → back through Ironforge and Stormwind → the final Duskwood circuit → level 30 training (step). Berserker Stance means a separate trip to the Barrens at 30 (step).
You can skip every optional section: the Kharanos campfire, the Hall of Thanes, the Deadmines, the Redridge keep, Excavation Site: Wetlands, the Stockade, Nek'rosh, Eliza and Stalvan, and Fray Island. The main route does not depend on them; pick up their quests within those sections.
Class quests check your actual level: Vejrek's chain starts at 10, the shield at 20, and Berserker Stance at 30. Chapter levels are estimates, not guarantees. Falling behind? Finish the green quests on your current circuit or grind a few single mobs.
Hearthstone: Kharanos → Thelsamar → Sentinel Hill → Darkshire → Menethil Harbor → Darkshire again; set it to Menethil Harbor before Fray Island. The Shopping and useful stops blocks cover vendors and upcoming quest rewards. Inventories come from game files, so check stock in game; prices are approximate. Spend on training first, then a weapon, bandages and food, then mail for empty slots. Skip water: Warriors have no mana.

Leveling talents
Builds for 10-30: which one to pick and in what order to spend points
You get your first point at 10 and have 21 by 30. Arms is my first solo pick here. The Ironforge weapon stop teaches Axes before the route starts offering two-handers. Protection keeps the shield and prepares you for tanking. These four orders use Forever's talents. Reset through Kelv Sternhammer in Ironforge or Wu Shen in Stormwind, starting at 1 gold at launch. I'd keep that gold for training until you know you want to change.
Arms: two-handermain21 / 0 / 0Build up your bleeds and opening rage, then reach Anger Management by 20. Icy Veins and Method recommend this leveling tree. Later on, it leads to Mortal Strike at 40.
Have rage ready before activating Eureka!. Its short window rewards a sequence of instant attacks. Using it while you're still running to the target or waiting for resources wastes much of the racial.
Sweeping Strikes at 30 lets you hit two targets, and requires level 30. Staying with an axe? You can take Weaponmaster 1/5 for +1% axe crit instead and finish its ranks after 30.
Arms can leave you waiting for rage, with more recovery than Protection in beta reports. Keep Bloodrage in use. Save rage when the mob needs just another normal swing to die.
Protection: shield and Revengewith a shield0 / 0 / 21Keep a one-hander and shield for shorter recovery breaks and dungeon tanking. Mobalytics favors this build, while Method also recommends it for solo leveling.
The first stretch before Revenge and Shield Block at 14-16 is slower than using a two-hander. Mobalytics suggests Arms until 15 and resetting at 16. The listed order avoids the extra respec if you'd prefer to stay Protection throughout.
Cruelty, then Armsfast start16 / 5 / 0Spend 5 points in Fury to get early crit, then take Arms toward Deep Wounds. It's Method's variation for making use of the extra rage from crits in Forever.
Fury: Death WishFury0 / 21 / 0Keep a two-hander and work toward a steadier rage supply. Icy Veins and Warcraft Tavern cover this setup, and beta players often rate Fury ahead of Arms.
Cruelty increases crit. Unbridled Wrath gives each hit a 60% chance at 1 extra rage, while Lingering Rage holds off rage decay for 8 seconds. Piercing Howl at 20 slows nearby enemies. Incoming hits can trigger Enrage, with a 30% chance of 10% extra physical damage for 12 seconds. Death Wish at 30 gives you +20% damage for 30 seconds.
Train Dual Wield before equipping two weapons. In Classic it requires level 20; the Forever data does not list a level, so check your trainer. Stick with a good two-hander until you have two worthwhile one-handers.
A short wolf and trogg circuit, then troll camps and their cave. Train at 4 before leaving the valley.

Felix Whindlebolt offers A Refugee's Quandary[3] from level 3. The refugee's belongings are scattered around the valley, so collect them along the way.
For a shield setup, take Anvilmar Hammer: a 2.14 DPS one-handed mace. Gnomes start with the skill. Axe Anvilmar Hand Axe is weaker at 1.75 DPS and requires Axes training first. Anvilmar Sledge requires separate Two-Handed Maces training, unavailable before Ironforge.
Grawn Thromwyn : axes Large Axe and Tomahawk become useful after Ironforge training (step). Until then, keep your valley mace and shield. Save training money first, then compare the purchase with your current weapon.
Collect boar meat and thick bear pelts around Kharanos and Steelgrill's Depot - Stocking Jetsteam[6].

Circuit rewards:Frostmane Hold[9] - Stone Buckler, 161 armor, roughly three times your first shield; Return to Bellowfiz[8] - Sharp Axe, 3.27 DPS. Useful for a shield build if you still use the valley reward rather than the Kharanos axe.
Linen for bandages; boar and bear meat for Cooking. Sell grays after turning in quests: do not confuse gnome quest parts with junk.

Buliwyf Stonehand : learn One-Handed and Two-Handed Axes. Gnomes do not start with them, and several quest and vendor axes come later on the route.
You are learning a skill, not receiving a weapon. Train the new weapon type on weak mobs first; expect misses at low skill. Cannot afford both? Learn the one you have an upgrade for now, then the other on the next visit (step).
⚔︎Questing loop: “A Favor for Evershine”, “The Perfect Stout”, “Frostmane Hold” and 3 more
◎
Kill bears, boars and leopards on the western slopes. Shimmerweed drops from Frostmane Seers and is found in baskets around their camps: clear the lower-level camps first, then the cave - A Favor for Evershine[8] and The Perfect Stout[9].
Hegnar Swiftaxe : Tabar, an 8.28 DPS two-handed axe from 9, ≈ 22. Requires Two-Handed Axes from Buliwyf Stonehand (step). Buy if it is a substantial upgrade and you have money left after training.
Buliwyf Stonehand : Axes and Two-Handed Axes if still needed; Two-Handed Maces for the ranch and Hall of Thanes rewards. Guns help pull enemies from range.
Balthus Stoneflayer : learn Skinning if you skipped it earlier (step) and your second primary profession slot is free. See this chapter's shopping list for a knife and pick.

Morhan Coppertongue : mail from level 12 - Chainmail Pants, 132 armor, ≈ 18, if you skipped it in Ironforge. Skip the chest: Filthy Paws[15] rewards one soon. Westfall has quest boots.
Stonesplinter Seers and Shamans cast from range. Break line of sight around a corner to bring them in, or interrupt with Shield Bash, available at 12 and requiring a shield.

Nillen Andemar in the north: Heavy Spiked Mace, two-handed mace, 12.50 DPS from level 14, +6 Strength, ≈ 74, if stocked. Requires Two-Handed Maces. Expensive: the axe from the fallen squad's banner is almost as good and free, so buy only if you have gold to spare.
Keep boar intestines, bear meat and spider ichor for Thelsamar; crocolisk meat and hides go to Farstrider Lodge. Do not sell them before turning in. The excavation tools start a separate quest.

Daggerfang's Daggerfang is a dagger; Gnomes know the skill from the start. Compare with your one-hander. For a two-handed build, this is a shield backup rather than a mandatory weapon swap.
For a shield setup, take Thelsamar Axe: one-handed, 9.05 DPS, +2 Agility. You know the skill, and it beats the Umbral weapons. Trogg Slicer is an 11.91 DPS two-handed sword requiring Two-Handed Swords from Woo Ping . The two-handed axe from Banner of the Fallen is nearly as good.
For a shield build: Dwarven Defender, 361 armor and +3 Stamina. With a two-hander, Frontier Britches is more useful: leather, +3 Strength and +3 Agility.
Two-hander: Mountaineer's Greataxe, 11.21 DPS, +3 Strength and +4 Stamina, requires Two-Handed Axes (step). For a shield setup, Invader's Mace, 8.54 DPS, is close to the excavation axe.

Victory Rush is the big level 20 pickup: usable within 20 seconds of an XP-granting kill, it deals damage and restores 10% health, with a 30-second cooldown. Slam has a 1.5-second cast and a 15-second cooldown (since November 2, was 18); beta testers dislike it, so use it with spare rage. At 26, visit Gavin Gnarltree : Merciless Axe, a 21.09 DPS two-handed axe, +12 Strength, ≈ 32. Your best vendor purchase before 30; train the skill in Ironforge (step).
The axe is in the game files, but vendor stock may be limited. Not there? Check again at 29 (step). Already have Rockslicer, Orc Crusher or Headbasher? Save your money. Still 25? Buy at 29.
lvl 24-26
Group: Redridge elites
A short optional branch for a two-handed mace, shield and mail boots. Continue to the Wetlands afterward.
0 of 10
Optional group run. Clear the orc keep for a two-handed mace, shield and boots. No group? Skip the chapter and continue to the Wetlands.
Don't forget in this section
Missing In Action[25] starts the escort immediately on acceptance. Clear Render's Camp and the escape route first.
If you still have orbs for Shadow Magic[23], deliver them to the marshal alongside Tharil'zun[25].
¤ Shopping and useful stuff
Bring a shield: Warriors commonly tank these groups. Repair and stock bandages before entering.
Shoulders from 25:Wenna Silkbeard in northern Wetlands - Elite Shoulders, 149 armor, +6 Strength and +5 Stamina, ≈ 16, if stocked. A strong purchase for any build with empty shoulders, but a separate detour from Thelgen Rock.
Keep quest crocolisk skins separate; sell ordinary hides. Wool and silk from humanoids go into bandages.
➶ Level faster
Raptors and crocolisks cluster together. Pull one with a ranged weapon. Save Escape Artist for Roots or slows; it does not protect against normal attacks.
⚔︎ PvP
Under PvP rules, the Wetlands are contested. Horde players reach Excavation Site: Wetlands via Thandol Span. Alliance guards patrol the harbor; retreat toward them if attacked.

Felicia Maline : fly from Darkshire to Stormwind, then take the Deeprun Tram to Ironforge.
Already in Stormwind after the Redridge group run? Start with the tram.
⌂Turn in 1 quest, pick up 2 new ones and visit your trainer
Prioritize Charge: 12 rage instead of 9. Challenging Shout and Mocking Blow are tanking tools and can wait if you solo. Still 25? Train level 26 abilities together with 28 (step).
⚔︎Questing loop: “Fire Taboo” and “Digging Through the Ooze”
◎
➜≈ 750 yards northwest · ~2 min on foot
In the north, between the Green Belt and Ironbeard's Tomb (), Mosshide Mistweavers, Fenrunners, Trappers, Brutes and Mystics drop flint for Fire Taboo[23]. The southern Gnolls and Mongrels do not. Nearby oozes at Ironbeard's Tomb drop the bag for Digging Through the Ooze[24].
Drops from:Crude Flint - Mosshide Mistweaver, Mosshide Fenrunner, Mosshide Trapper and others · Sida's Bag - Crimson Ooze, Black Ooze, Monstrous Ooze and others
↩Head back: turn in 5 quests and pick up 1 new one
New Forever quests alongside the familiar circuit. Pull tough enemies one at a time.
0 of 22
Main route: finish this chapter, then continue to Ironforge and Stormwind and Duskwood. The three group chapters below are optional: choose any or skip them all. Their level headings are estimates, not promised XP gains.
Don't forget in this section
Incisors for Razormaw Needling[29] drop at Raptor Ridge northeast of the Green Belt, not at the excavation.
Lifting the Curse[30]: the captain is aboard a ship, the deck is cramped, and mobs respawn behind you. Bring a partner if possible.
⚔︎Questing loop: “The Cursed Crew”, “Uncovering the Past” and “Ormer's Revenge”
◎
Clear the cursed crew at the wrecked fleet, then kill the stronger raptors and collect four relics at Whelgar's Excavation Site - The Cursed Crew[29] and Uncovering the Past[27] and Ormer's Revenge[27].
Drops from:Snellig's Snuffbox - First Mate Snellig
↩Head back: turn in 2 quests and pick up 1 new one
You need Bows training in Darnassus to equip the bow; Warriors cannot use wands. Using a two-hander and still wearing Ironheart Chain? Take Raptorbane Armor, leather with +16 attack power. Otherwise choose the higher vendor price.
The main route continues with Next: Stormwind and Next: Duskwood. Have a group? Before leaving, choose Excavation Site: Wetlands, the Stockade or Nek'rosh. Every run is optional.
lvl 28-30
Group: Excavation Site: Wetlands
A new dungeon with a strong hammer for the relic quest. Quests start at 24, but do not attempt it solo at 24.
0 of 13
Optional group run. No group? Resume the main route. After the Ironforge turn-in, the route continues in the same city.
Head east from the harbor: Rethiel the Greenwarden by the Green Belt, then Whelgar's camp. Find Excavation Site: Wetlands near Whelgar's Excavation Site using the new zone's marker; do not confuse it with the ordinary raptors outside.
In Ironforge after the excavation? Fly back to Menethil Harbor first. Form a group in the Wetlands and head to Dun Modr's southern entrance; do not push straight onto Thandol Span.
Return to the harbor, fly to Ironforge and take the Deeprun Tram to Stormwind. Pick up two quests in your unlocked Lakeshire and Darkshire before gathering at the entrance.
Drops from:Head of Deepfury - Kam Deepfury · Head of Targorr - Targorr the Dread · Hand of Dextren Ward - Dextren Ward · Red Wool Bandana - Dextren Ward, Defias Prisoner, Defias Captive and others
Tank with Defensive Stance and a shield. The prisoners are humanoids; use Hamstring to stop runners.
Two-hander below 18 DPS? Take Ursine Hammer, an 18.44 DPS two-handed mace. Lucine Longsword is a one-handed sword Gnomes can already use; compare with your shield weapon. Otherwise choose the highest vendor value.
Choose a reward:Defeat Nek'rosh[32] - Barreling Reaper, a 16.58 DPS one-handed axe with +5 Stamina, for shields after Axes training (step); Ancient War Sword, a 21.67 DPS two-handed sword with +9 Strength and +6 Stamina, requiring training from Woo Ping (step).
Shield build: Barreling Reaper, one-handed axe, 16.58 DPS and +5 Stamina; you know the skill. Ancient War Sword is a two-handed sword, 21.67 DPS, +9 Strength and +6 Stamina, requiring training with Woo Ping . Keep Headbasher or Heavehammer if you have either.
Shield Wall reduces damage taken by 60% for 12 seconds, on a 15-minute cooldown. Requires Defensive Stance; this is your emergency button. Thunder Clap hits up to four nearby enemies.

Take the Deeprun Tram to Stormwind and head to the cathedral.
Reward: Eye of Paleth, an off-hand item. Sell it as a Warrior.
lvl 29-30
Duskwood: unfinished business
The final Darkshire circuit: worgen, ogres and Raven Hill. Head to Stormwind at 30.
0 of 29
Continue the main route after the Wetlands. Eliza and Stalvan below are optional group quests. Move on to level 30 training at actual level 30, not simply because you finished this chapter.
Tanking? Take Shield of the Faith, a shield with 578 armor, stronger than all previous shields. Otherwise, Cloak of the Faith, a cloak with +4 Stamina and +4 Spirit, if your back slot is empty.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Ogre Thieves”, “Look to the Stars” and “Merrick's Bow”
◎
Do Vul'Gol Ogre Mound in one visit: warriors and enforcers, the leader's monocle and the hermit's crate - Ogre Thieves[30] and Look to the Stars[30] and Merrick's Bow[28].
Drops from:Ogre's Monocle - Zzarc' Vul
Bring a partner for the tough named ogre. Skipped the family chain? Only do the quests in your log.
↩Head back: turn in 5 quests and pick up 4 new ones
Shield build: Crescent of Forlorn Spirits, one-handed axe, 18.13 DPS, and you know the skill. The ring gives spell power, which does nothing for this Warrior build.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Bride of the Embalmer”
◎
Find Eliza's grave in the western cemetery. Start the event only once your group is ready. Defeat Eliza and loot her heart - Bride of the Embalmer[30].
Expect additional undead. Agree beforehand who tanks the boss and who handles the adds.
Tanking? Crest of Darkshire, shield, 661 armor, +2 Strength and +7 Stamina: the best before 30. Without a shield, take Darkshire Shoulderguards, leather shoulders with +7 Stamina and +7 Spirit, if that slot is empty.
Darkspear Islands unlocks at 30: a 15v15 battleground off Dustwallow Marsh. Queue with a battlemaster in a capital or at the Alliance fort in southeastern Barrens, which you pass on the swim to Fray Island (step). As a Warrior, keep Hamstring on your target and use Intimidating Shout against a crowd.

Berserker Stance: Fray Island
Your third stance requires a trip to Kalimdor. Optional, but worth doing at 30. Hearth back afterward.
0 of 8
Optional, but worth unlocking immediately. Requires actual level 30. Travel through Ironforge and Menethil Harbor, take the boat to Theramore, then follow the coast to Fray Island in the Barrens. Hearth back. Not ready for the swim? Pick up the quest when your route next takes you to Kalimdor.
Don't forget in this section
Confirm your ship at Menethil Harbor: take Theramore, while the other ship goes to Auberdine.
Start the Fray Island trial at full health: waves follow one another.
Leave The Windwatcher[30], the Whirlwind weapon follow-up, at 30: it needs distant travel and help against a strong enemy.
Bring enough bandages and food for the full trial: challengers arrive consecutively and time is limited.
➶ Level faster
Escape Artist does not remove stuns or reduce damage. During the trial, focus on killing challengers one at a time, watching health and avoiding unnecessary attacks that spend your last Rage.
⚔︎ PvP
Under PvP rules, the Barrens are Horde territory and flag you automatically. Level 20-30 Horde players frequent the coast and Ratchet. Stick to the water, and do not start the arena while enemies are nearby.
Check your boat at Menethil Harbor: you want Theramore, not the Southshore and Auberdine route. Unsure? Ask the dock official where the boat goes.
Southshore-Auberdine is a new Forever route. The Theramore service is from Classic: no cancellation was announced, but it was not separately tested in beta.
➜
after travel
In Theramore, unlock the flight path with Baldruc . Follow the eastern coast north, walking where possible and swimming close to shore. In the Barrens, pass the Alliance fort at ; Fray Island is northeast at .
Stay near shore to avoid fatigue in open water. The coastal pirate camp at has level 12-15 mobs, no threat at 30. Already have the Ratchet flight path? Fly there and swim south.
Stand on the arena grate at . Challengers arrive one at a time; level 33 Big Will comes last - The Affray[30].
Start at full health with bandages ready. If a challenger grants XP, use Victory Rush before the next arrives. Save Retaliation for the last fighter: 15 seconds of counterattacks.
How to do this quest - The Affray
You have 10 minutes in total. The opponents come out one at a time, about every 15-20 seconds: in between you have time for Victory Rush and a quick bandage.
If it gets rough, run north off the island, over the hillock to the water: according to a Classic player's comment, the opponent drops off at the water and the quest does not fail.
When Big Will shows up, step away from the bars: according to the comments, he does not attack on his own. Bandage up, then Charge and fight.
Reward: Berserker Stance, +3% crit chance but +10% damage taken. Check your spellbook for Intercept: Wowhead does not list it at the trainer, so it appears to come with the stance. Both Intercept and Berserker Rage require Berserker Stance. The Windwatcher[30] starts the Whirlwind weapon chain, but its quests are level 37-40. Leave it for later.

Warrior: stances, rage, weapons and shields
Stances by level, Rage, weapons and shields, Gnome class quests through 30
Gnome Warriors start with sword Worn Shortsword and shield Worn Wooden Shield. They know One-Handed Swords, Daggers, One-Handed Maces and Shields, and wear Mail. Learn Axes and Two-Handed Axes in Ironforge (step), plus Two-Handed Maces from Buliwyf Stonehand . Two-Handed Swords: Woo Ping in Stormwind. Practice every new weapon type on weak mobs first.
New in Forever:Tactical Mastery at 14 retains up to 10 rage when switching stances. Victory Rush at 20 heals 10% health after a kill; Slam adds another weapon strike at 20. Berserker Rage arrives at 30 rather than 32. Thunder Clap hits twice as hard, has a 6-second cooldown and works in Defensive Stance; Battle Shout is 40% weaker but lasts 3 minutes.
Tactical Mastery at 14 retains up to 10 rage when switching stances (training). Without it, switching consumes your entire pool.
Berserker Stance at 30 from the Fray Island fight in the Barrens (step): +3% crit chance but +10% damage taken. Berserker Rage, your fear break, and Intercept require this stance.
Rage
Save it for the next fight
In Forever, rage per swing depends on weapon speed rather than damage: slow two-handers and fast one-handers generate it at a similar overall rate. White melee crits generate twice as much.
Heroic Strike spends rage to replace a white hit. It also costs you the rage that normal swing would've generated. I'd use it when the bar has room to spare, not as a button to press on every swing.
Bloodrage trades health for rage. Use while healthy; near death, survive first.
Finish nearly dead mobs with auto-attacks. Apply Rend early in a long fight, not just before the target dies.
Few solo quests reward weapons; buy upgrades when needed. At 20: Battle Axe, a 15.26 DPS two-handed axe, or Flail, 11.82 DPS, for a shield setup (Stormwind). At 26: Merciless Axe, 21.09 DPS two-handed axe, +12 Strength, limited stock (Darkshire). Learn Axes in Ironforge (step).
Fill empty slots with white-quality mail; no need to buy a full set. Intellect and spell power do not help this Warrior build. Prefer Strength and Stamina.
How not to die
Shield, bandages and an escape route
Bandages are your main healing tool: learn First Aid with Thamner Pol in Kharanos, then Nissa Firestone in Ironforge. Bandage when enemies stop hitting you; eat to full health before dangerous pulls.
Use Escape Artist to clear roots and slows, with three seconds of immunity afterward. It can get you back onto a caster or out of a net. It doesn't heal you, reduce damage, or remove fear and stuns.
Shield Bash at 12 interrupts casts; keep a shield ready. Stop fleeing humanoids with Hamstring.
Victory Rush at 20 deals damage and restores 10% health within 20 seconds of a kill: use it to open the next fight. Retaliation at 20 and Shield Wall at 28 are emergency buttons, both on 15-minute cooldowns.
Intimidating Shout at 22 fears up to five enemies, but runners can pull more mobs. If a fight is lost, retreat early along a cleared route, not at 5% health.
Before 6: Thran Khorman in the valley. From 6-10: Granis Swiftaxe in Kharanos, who teaches abilities through 60. Later: Kelv Sternhammer in Ironforge and Wu Shen in Stormwind. Loch Modan, Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood and the Wetlands have no Warrior trainers.
Training visits, 1-20: 1 and 4 in the valley (step, step), 6 and 8 in Kharanos (step, step), 10 (step), 12 (step), 14 (step), 16 (step), 18 (step). Visits for 20-30 fit the route: 20 (step), 22 and 24 (step), 26 (step), 28 (step), 30 (step).
Training costs roughly 19s through 10, 4g14s through 20, then another 16g30s for 22-30 (Wowhead Forever prices before discounts).
Bullova, a two-handed axe despite being named a mace; replace only weapons below 16 DPS (step)
✦
Gnome Racials
Escape Artist
Escape Artist: instantly removes Roots and slows, then grants immunity to them for three seconds. Two-minute cooldown. For a Warrior, this helps reach a Mage or escape a net and retreat along cleared ground.
It does not remove stuns, Fear, Poison or bleeds. It is not a physical damage defensive.
Rage and Eureka!
Expansive Mind adds 5% to maximum Rage. That gives you storage space. It doesn't make the next swing generate rage faster.
The Warrior's Eureka! gives eight seconds of 10% cheaper, 10% stronger instant offensive abilities, on a two-minute cooldown. Reach the target with rage ready, then use the window. Auto-attacks and abilities with a cast or windup don't all gain the same benefit.
Engineering
Engineering Specialization reduces Engineering failures and backfires by 20%. It replaces the old +15 skill bonus. You can still get a malfunction, so leave room for a backup plan.
Mining + Engineering offers grenades and gadgets. Mining + Skinning is simpler for income. You cannot have three primary professions.
✦
Professions and useful loot
I'd gather with Mining and Skinning to pay for the Warrior's spell and weapon bills. Coldridge Valley Mail Delivery[4] supplies Mining for Dummies to learn Mining. First Aid and Cooking fit alongside the main pair. Engineering or Blacksmithing can replace Skinning if you want to craft. Either one needs gold that you'll also want for consumables and training.
Where to train
First Aid: Thamner Pol in Kharanos, then Nissa Firestone in Ironforge. A Warrior priority: bandages cover your healing between fights.
Linen Cloth and wool for bandages, meat for Cooking. Sell leather and ore in Auction House stacks unless you craft with them.
Quest drops require the quest in your log: trogg gunpowder, leopard pelts, Vejrek's head. You can stockpile ordinary ore and leather beforehand.
Sell grays at the nearest camp. Free bag slots beat an extra capital trip.
If You Choose Engineering
Springspindle Fizzlegear in Ironforge: Engineering training. Save ore for parts; check tools and reagents against the recipe before leaving town.
Grenades give Warriors extra control, but do not replace a good weapon. Invest gradually: abilities, food and bandages first, expensive devices later. Engineering Specialization reduces malfunction risk, not recipe requirements.
✦
Dungeons: preparation and rewards
The Hall of Thanes, Deadmines, Redridge keep, Excavation Site: Wetlands, Stockade, Nek'rosh and Eliza
The leveling route doesn't need a dungeon clear. Collect the optional quests once you have a party arranged, shortly before running them. Otherwise, they'll sit in your quest log for several levels. The listed levels are estimates for a group.
Tanking? Bring a one-hander, shield, food and bandages. Repair and train before entering: Kelv Sternhammer in Ironforge or Wu Shen in Stormwind.
Use Defensive Stance to hold mobs with Sunder Armor and Revenge after a block or dodge. Taunt brings a loose mob back, but you still need to build threat afterward.
Mark which mob dies first, then bring casters around a corner to gather them. Keep rage for control. Shield Bash needs a shield, and Shield Block from 16 helps you handle the next hits.
Playing DPS? Let the tank gather the mobs first. Arms talents do not replace a shield and defensive abilities if you end up tanking.
From 28, Shield Wall reduces damage taken by 60% for 12 seconds: an emergency button if the boss gets out of control.
Deadmines: prepare before forming the group
Start at Sentinel Hill: Gryan Stoutmantle and Alba Fairmoon . Chain deliveries pass through Lakeshire and Stormwind (step); finish before the group assembles.
A Dynamite Plan[16] needs exactly ten Rough Dynamite, specifically this item. Use the Auction House or an Engineer. Keep the issued explosives until the forge.
Headbasher is not handed out at the Stockade exit: return to Dun Modr for it (step).
✦
What is new in Forever on this route
New Alliance quests, Warrior training and Gnome racials
Checked for Forever beta 1.60.1 against October 21-22, 2026 data: changes affecting this Gnome Warrior route. Numbers and rewards use Forever data; old Classic tables may differ.
Thunder Clap at 6 hits twice as hard, has a 6-second cooldown, slows attacks by 20% and works in Defensive Stance. Both Rend and Thunder Clap scale with attack power.
Battle Shout gives 40% less attack power but lasts 3 minutes. Demoralizing Shout is 40% stronger and lasts 45 seconds. Shield Block at 16 blocks two attacks within 7 seconds.
At 20: Victory Rush restores 10% health after a kill, 30-second cooldown (training); the first rank of Slam is available at 20, with a 1.5-second cast and a 15-second cooldown (since November 2, was 18). Berserker Rage arrives at 30 rather than 32 (training).
Rage per swing depends on weapon speed rather than damage: slow two-handers and fast one-handers generate it at a similar overall rate. Slow weapons still favor weapon-damage-plus-bonus abilities: Overpower, Slam, Cleave.
White melee crits generate twice as much rage since October 1. Rage from damage taken was increased on October 8: getting hit now builds it faster.
The Bloodrage tooltip no longer says it keeps you in combat. If that matches live behavior, you can use it before charging; check in game.
Wowhead does not list the first ranks of Taunt or Sunder Armor at the trainer either. They come with the stance; check your spellbook after turning in.
Berserker Stance comes from The Affray[30] at 30 on Fray Island in the Barrens (step). Intercept is also absent from the trainer list; Wowhead data links it to the stance unlock.
Kharanos and eastern Dun Morogh: the three-part Secure the Mountain chain (start), Flintfire's Shipment[7], Frosthowl[9], the Misty Pine Refuge chain (start) and trogg gunpowder (start).
Escape Artist is instant and grants three seconds of immunity to Roots and slows after removing them.
Warriors have their own versions of Expansive Mind and Eureka!: a larger Rage pool and a brief boost to instant attacks. Other classes' Mana or Energy bonuses do not apply.
Gold, Hearthstone, dangerous mobs and mistakes that waste time
Before leaving
What to check
New town
Check training, repairs and the next quest reward. Set aside training money before buying a weapon.
New weapon
Check weapon type and item level. Missing the skill? Train with a weapon master and level it on weak mobs.
Long loop
Food, bandages, bag space and your hearth location. Do not sell quest items with gray junk.
Class quest
Actual level requirements: Vejrek from 10, shield from 20, Berserker Stance from 30. The Rethban Gauntlet[22] is timed and fails on death.
Group run
Quests before entering; one-hander and shield in your bags; repairs done. Start escorts once everyone has the quest.
Fray Island
Level 30, training, bandages and food. Set your hearth to Menethil Harbor before boarding (step).
Money
Spending order: training → weapon → bandages and food → mail for empty slots. Skip water: Warriors have no mana.
Training costs roughly 19s through 10, 4g14s through 20, then another 16g30s for 22-30 (Wowhead Forever prices before discounts).
Solo through 20-30? Save for two axes: Battle Axe at 20 and Merciless Axe at 26, if stocked. These are your main damage upgrades. Do not buy a full set of white mail.
Linen and wool for bandages; sell leather and ore in Auction House stacks unless you use them for crafting.
Darkshire - at 21, Menethil Harbor - in the Wetlands, Darkshire again - at 29. Before Fray Island, Menethil Harbor (step).
Hearthstone has a one-hour cooldown. If unavailable, walk or fly: each return step includes an alternative.
Dangerous mobs and locations
Coldridge Valley: Grik'nir the Cold deep in the cave (step). Clear your return route first.
Eastern Dun Morogh: Avala (step) and Vagash (step) are stronger than nearby mobs. Bring a partner if underleveled.
Ironband's Compound: level 11 Captain Beld guards the lockbox (step).
Loch Modan: Headsplitter after raising the fallen squad's banner (step). Bring a partner if outleveled.
Westfall: Defias Pillagers in Moonbrook cast hard-hitting fire spells. Pull one at a time around a corner.
Rethban Caverns: level 18-21 gnolls and the The Rethban Gauntlet[22] timer (step). Avoid fights on the way.
Wetlands: Sarltooth deep in Whelgar's Excavation Site (step) and the cursed ship's captain (step). Tight spaces and respawns behind you.
Duskwood: Vul'Gol ogres move in pairs (step). Fray Island: the last challenger is level 33 Big Will (step).
Common Warrior mistakes
Selling your shield after getting a two-hander removes your defensive setup and access to Shield Bash. Keep a one-hander and shield in your bags.
Using Heroic Strike on every swing: it replaces an auto-attack and loses the rage that hit would have generated. Use with spare rage.
Pulling without Charge leaves your first seconds rage-starved. From 4, charge into each fight when possible.
Visiting Vejrek without the quest: his head only drops while Vejrek[11] is in your log.
Train Two-Handed Maces before equipping Coldridge Hammer or the Hall of Thanes hammer. Buliwyf Stonehand in Ironforge teaches the skill. Knowing one-handed maces doesn't cover it.
Buying water: Warriors have no mana. Spend on bandages instead.
Accepting dungeon quests without a group clogs your log. No group? Leave them for later.
Accepting Fire Hardened Mail[28] immediately after the shield: this mail armor needs Kalimdor and Razorfen Kraul materials. Save it for after 30.
Expecting Berserker Stance from Whirlwind weapons: The Affray[30] unlocks the stance; The Windwatcher[30] is a separate level 37-40 chain.
✦
After 30: Warrior mail and Whirlwind weapons
Class chains beyond the 1-30 route
The route ends with all three stances available and level 30 abilities. The class chains below start at 20-30, but their quests and targets are for 30+. Do not clog your log with them early.
Fire Hardened armor
The shield follow-up is Fire Hardened Mail[28], from the same Stormwind blacksmith, Furen Longbeard . It requires Wetlands spider fangs, Stonetalon chimaera horns and a vial from Razorfen Kraul. Then Furen's Armor[28] rewards Fire Hardened Hauberk: mail, 218 armor, +5 Strength and +14 Stamina.
The Windwatcher[30] starts after Berserker Stance. Your next mentor is Bath'rah the Windwatcher in the Alterac Mountains, followed by level 37-40 quests and a tough enemy: bring a group or return later.
A good weapon from level 20-30 dungeons can last until this chain.
