Keep the rose. Your Night Elf Rogue needs it for the class dagger, Blade of Cunning, at 10-12. This 1-30 route crosses Teldrassil, Darkshore, Ashenvale, and Mathystra before sailing to Stormwind at 20. Redridge, Duskwood, and the Wetlands follow. We'll start Lockpicking at 16, finish it in Redridge, and unlock poisons with a Westfall trip at 20. Weapons, training through 30, and combat use of Shadowmeld are covered too.
Updated November 4, 2026 for Blizzard's November 2 changes: all four talent orders rebuilt, and new trainer abilities at 18 and 24.

Addons
What to install from CurseForge for Forever: the useful and the fun
Maps inside dungeons:Dungeon Crawler Forever shows floors, passages, bosses and quests. Open it with /dm. Its data changes with the beta: double-check quest requirements in game. More conveniences, screenshots and highlight commands - in the useful addons guide.
How to install. In the CurseForge app, add the game with the “+” button and point it to your Forever client folder - a Forever tab appears. Manually on the beta: the _classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns folder. Addons for regular Classic won't work - you need a file marked Forever (1.60.1). ★ - our pick.
Already in the game - no addon needed: coordinates on the map and minimap (turn them on in the settings), quest objectives on the map (the “Enhanced” template at first login, or the quest objectives option), a damage meter, a swing timer, the Cooldown Manager, one combined bag, an equipment manager and a modern auction house. Not in the game: a threat meter, markers for quests you haven't picked up yet, and a /way command.
Quests and map
★ Questie - who gives quests and where the objectives are, on the map and minimap. It still lacks some of the new Forever quests.
★ TomTom - an arrow to a point. The coordinates on this site copy as a /way command for it.
★ Leatrix Maps - reveals unexplored parts of the map, shows dungeon entrances, and the map can be enlarged.
Forever Quest Tint - tints the text of new Forever quests, so you see at a glance what's new.
Conveniences
★ Leatrix Plus - auto quest turn-in, junk selling, repairs, fast loot and dozens of small things. There's a separate version for Forever.
★ Baganator - proper bags and bank: the built-in combined bag can't be moved. A similar one - Bagnon.
★ Auctionator - posts auctions quickly, remembers prices and shows them in tooltips.
★ Platynator - draws neat bars above mobs and marks the ones you need for a quest. Very handy while leveling.
Professions
★ GatherLite - herbs, ore and fish on the map: it already ships with more than 26 thousand points made for Forever.
GatherMate2 - the same, but it only remembers points as you gather them yourself.
For fun: voiceover and dialogue
★ Spoken - English voiceover for quests, books and zones. On the Forever forums it gets the most praise: “like an audiobook”. More in the addons guide.
★ Immersion - movie-style NPC dialogue instead of the usual quest window.
Optional
Details! or ThreatClassic2 - threat in dungeons: the built-in damage meter doesn't show it.
Easy Experience Bar - experience per hour and how much is left to the next level.
Dungeon Journal - dungeon quests and loot: Forever has no dungeon journal of its own.
WeakAuras has no Forever version; use the fork ForeverAuras instead (it can do what the built-in Cooldown Manager sees).
For mail, instead of Postal try Forever Mail: recipient picker, mail history and attachment lists. More in the general addons guide.
Zygor and ElvUI aren't installed through CurseForge.
Combat “helpers” that do calculations are banned in Forever, as in the modern game: addons may display, but not calculate.
For rogues
You no longer need an energy tick tracker: in Forever energy regenerates smoothly.
Cooldowns are shown by the built-in Cooldown Manager - it has supported rogues since October 1.
Combo points right on your target - Combo Points on Plate: the points are drawn on the health bar above the mob, so you don't have to look away at your own portrait. Change the look and color with /cpp. The beta still forgets addon settings after a restart, so the addon keeps them in a macro called “CPP Settings” - don't delete it.
Poison reminder: NoPoizen, optional from 20 once the quest unlocks poisons. It warns you when your poison wears off.
⏱︎
How not to lose hours while leveling
Small things about your route, mobs, mana, and speed that add up to hours over a whole leveling run
Route
Running around eats roughly a third of all leveling time. So grab quests in bundles and finish them in one trip, with at least two or three objectives close together on the map.
Don't be afraid to drop a quest with a rare drop, an NPC who isn't there, or an objective on the far side of the zone. Leave escorts for the end of the loop, since they usually run through the same mobs the nearby quests need.
Heading to the next spot with full mana and health? Kill mobs on the way. You regenerate anyway, and a couple of extra mobs on every run adds up to hours by the end.
While a mob is dying, start walking to the next one. Finish off the last few percent with auto attacks or a wand instead of a big spell.
Which mobs
Green mobs die fast and are barely a threat, but in Forever they give 4-20% less XP than in Classic. Blizzard says that's intended. Look at XP per hour, not at the color.
Yellow and green mobs are a fine pick. Orange and red ones are almost always worse. There's no XP penalty, but you miss more, fights drag on, and your mana and health melt faster. The one exception is elite group quests, if you've got a group.
Supplies and timing
Always carry food and water, or you'll get stuck in the middle of a mob camp with empty bars. Addons that auto-sell gray items and auto-repair at a vendor save time too.
Use your Hearthstone and long-cooldown abilities on cooldown, not "for later." The perfect moment might never come.
Spirit is useful for everyone while leveling, because you spend less time sitting between fights. Got an item with Spirit that's a bit weaker on other stats? I'd keep it.
Build and trainer
Leveling talents aren't level 60 talents. While leveling, you're your own tank and healer, so defensive and recovery talents beat an extra percent of damage.
The Legacy perk "Thrill of Adventure" gives back up to 5% health and mana after you kill a mob that gives XP.
New ranks show up every 2 levels, but not every trip to the trainer is worth it. Check what you'll actually get, and don't fly to a capital for a rank that barely changes anything.
People
Buff someone who's passing by, and they'll probably return the favor.
Elite quests go faster with a partner, and on PvP servers it's a lot safer too.
Speed
Use Sprint on long runs whenever it's off cooldown. Saving it "just in case" doesn't pay off.

Following the route
Main 1-20 route: Shadowglen → Dolanaar and Ban'ethil Barrow Den → Darnassus at 10 for the class dagger's rose → northern Teldrassil and the Oracle Glade → Auberdine → northern and southern Darkshore → western Ashenvale → Ruins of Mathystra. At 20, take the direct Auberdine-Stormwind boat (step).
Main 20-30 route: Stormwind → Lakeshire → the poison trip through Goldshire, the Westfall tower and treatment in Stormwind (step) → the bridge and Alther's Mill → Duskwood → the second Redridge loop → Stalvan and Moonbrook → Ironforge and Loch Modan → Wetlands → Stormwind → the final Duskwood loop → level 30 training (step).
Class quests require your actual level: the rose and Blade of Cunning from 10, lockpicking from 16, poisons from 20, Ravenholdt from 24. Chapter levels are targets, not guarantees. Falling behind? Finish green quests in the current loop or earn the missing XP on isolated mobs.
Hearthstone: Dolanaar (step) → Auberdine (step) → Stormwind (step) → Darkshire (step) → Menethil Harbor (step) → Darkshire (step). Optional chapters: the Dolanaar campfire (step), Ravenholdt (step) and four group branches: the Redridge orc keep, Excavation Site: Wetlands, the Stockade with Nek'rosh, and Eliza with Stalvan. The main route does not depend on them. Shopping blocks list vendors and upcoming rewards; stock comes from game files and prices are approximate. Rogue spending order: training → weapons → food, bandages and poisons → leather for empty slots.
✦
Leveling talents
Builds for 10-30: which one to pick and in what order to spend points
You get talents at 10, reaching 21 points by 30. I'd take Combat: swords for a first run, even though you'll use daggers before 20. Night Elves start with Daggers and Thrown. Woo Ping teaches Swords in Stormwind, Ilyenia Moonfire teaches Fist Weapons in Darnassus, and Buliwyf Stonehand teaches Maces and One-Handed Axes in Ironforge. A Rogue trainer can reset talents, starting at 1 gold at launch. Check the order through the tooltips and calculator before paying to change it.
Combat: swordsmain0 / 21 / 0I'd use this for uncomplicated solo pulls and more frequent travel cooldowns. Icy Veins, Wowhead, Warcraft Tavern, and Mobalytics recommend the same core points.
Start with Efficient Strikes for a cheaper builder and Coup de Grace for a stronger finisher. Those carry ordinary pulls without much fuss. Riposte at 20 adds a hit after parrying. Blade Flurry at 30 lets you damage two targets together.
Take Endurance at 22-23 to bring Sprint and Evasion from 5-minute cooldowns to roughly 2 minutes. Use the shorter Sprint cooldown for travel and keep the defensive in mind before a difficult pull.
Before 20, your daggers work with Sinister Strike. At 20, visit Woo Ping in Stormwind to learn Swords. Use a slow, hard-hitting main hand and choose the off hand for DPS.
You won't have cleave before 30, and beta reports describe low Rogue damage across the level 30 specs. Since November 2, Dual Wield Specialization sits in the 5th row and doesn't fit before 30, so take Aggression at 26-28 (+15% to Sinister Strike and Eviscerate) and Composure at 29 for the new Poised.
Assassination: crits and poisonsfor poison fans21 / 0 / 0Build with Sinister Strike and its extra crit, and let poisons add damage. Mutilate costs 31 points since November 2 and only opens at 40, so take Venom at 30 for the new Shank.
Remorseless Attacks boosts crit after a kill, while Malice works throughout the fight. From 22, Vigor adds 10 energy, and Cold Blood comes at 25. Night Elves know Daggers from 1, and Elune's Light gives another 10% crit during its 15 seconds.
Combat: daggersfor dagger fans2 / 19 / 0Make Backstab the main attack, helped by Puncturing Wounds for +30% crit and a chance at an extra combo point. This is Method's order.
Solo, use Gouge to get behind the mob. Otherwise, it'll keep turning to face you. Beta players have also reported parries from behind, which makes the positioning more annoying. This order skips Endurance.
At 30, Method used to suggest a respec. Players used to respec for Dual Wield Specialization and Blade Flurry here, but since November 2 both sit in the 5th row and don't fit in these 21 points. Keep the build as it is: Composure at 28-29 for the new Poised, and a point in Aggression at 30.
Weapons: a main-hand dagger, Blade of Cunning, then Kris from 19 and Broad Bladed Knife from 27. Damage per swing matters for this attack, favoring a slow dagger. Use any suitable off-hand weapon, then the faster Main Gauche from 29.
Subtlety: Ambush and Hemorrhagefor stealth fans0 / 0 / 21Open hard from stealth, then work toward Hemorrhage at 30. Icy Veins and Mobalytics cover the build but don't recommend it for a first leveling run.
Improved Ambush helps Ambush take a large chunk of a normal mob's health. Camouflage speeds up your stealth approach, and Quickness makes a Night Elf harder to spot. Ghostly Strike also works without moving behind the target.
Since November 2, the first 5 points in Opportunity make Backstab, Garrote, and Ambush hit 20% harder, but the build really comes together with Ambush at 18. You'll need a dagger and won't have cleave. I'd follow Mobalytics' suggestion of leveling Combat, then switching at 30 if this is the style you want.
Use cloth for bandages; First Aid is your main healing tool. Sell hides in stacks or save them for Leatherworking; vendor grays by Aldrassil.
➶ Level faster
Basic Rogue sequence: Sinister Strike 2-3 times, then Eviscerate. From 4, open from Stealth with Backstab: a harder hit, but it requires a dagger and being behind your target.
Small Throwing Knife: a 30-yard throw for pulling one mob out of a pack. Throwing takes half a second in Forever, so you cannot do it while running.
Choose a manual: Pelt Collecting for Beginners for Skinning or Mining for Dummies for Mining. Skinning is convenient for a Rogue: the route has plenty of beasts, funding your training from level 1.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Iverron's Antidote” and “Webwood Egg”
◎
Gather 7 mushrooms and 4 lilies in the valley, loot spider ichor and collect the egg from Webwood Eggs inside the cave for Iverron's Antidote[4] and Webwood Egg[5].
Backstab requires a dagger and being behind the target. Use it as your opener while stealthed. Use Pick Pocket before attacking, on humanoids only, for extra coins.
Soft Saber Pelts[7]: soft nightsaber hides only drop while the quest is in your log. Save ordinary hides for Leatherworking or sell stacks in Dolanaar.
➶ Level faster
Death has no meaningful penalty before 10, and Wisp Spirit gets you to your body 75% faster. Stranded far away with no health? A corpse run can sometimes be quicker than walking.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Zenn's Bidding” and “Soft Saber Pelts”
◎
East of Dolanaar, gather 3 fangs, 3 feathers and 3 spider silks, then loot 6 soft hides from ordinary Nightsabers for Zenn's Bidding[5] and Soft Saber Pelts[7].
Not 8 yet? Train on your return from the den. Use Evasion as soon as two mobs are hitting you, before your health is nearly gone. It does not protect against spells.
Class
➜
Head to Ban'ethil Barrow Den. Remember the ramps; markers on different floors are not connected by a straight path.
Rewards are a cloth shirt and Brushwood Blade, a 5.33 DPS sword. Night Elf Rogues only train Swords in Stormwind, at 20 on this route. Take the higher vendor price.
Escort the wounded Sentinel out of Ban'ethil Barrow Den and defend her until she reaches safety for Escaping Ban'ethil[9].
Clear the corridor to the exit before talking. Attack mobs hitting her; use Evasion against two or three furbolgs. Failed? Accept it again. If solo attempts fail, return at 10 before the northern loop.
↩Head back: turn in 4 quests and pick up 2 new ones
Sethir the Ancient is at the edge of the Oracle Glade, which you visit next chapter. Avoid running there immediately; plenty of quests lie along the way.
Feral Bracers are leather bracers with 18 armor. If you bought Rough Leather Bracers in Dolanaar (23 armor), vendor these; otherwise, equip them. The cloth boots are weaker.
⚔︎Questing loop: “The Enchanted Glade”, “Tumors” and “Crown of the Earth”
◎
Near the Oracle Glade, gather 6 harpy belts, loot 5 tumors from tougher timberlings, and fill the Amethyst Phial at the moonwell for The Enchanted Glade[11], Tumors[9] and Crown of the Earth[11].
Drops from:Bloodfeather Belt - Bloodfeather Harpy, Bloodfeather Rogue, Bloodfeather Sorceress and others · Mossy Tumor - Timberling Trampler, Timberling Mire Beast, Elder Timberling
Head north from the tree to the Oracle Glade's edge. Sethir the Ancient hides on a branch at . Loot his notes for Destiny Calls[10].
Sethir the Ancient is a regular level 12 mob with no guards. Use Stealth, approach from behind and open with Backstab. Then Gouge lets you get behind him again; Elune's Light helps finish the fight faster.
Class

Hearthstone to Dolanaar. If it is on cooldown, follow the road past the Pools of Arlithrien.
Rewards are Defender Axe, a 6.96 DPS axe, and a mace. Rogues can learn One-Handed Axes in Forever, but Buliwyf Stonehand teaches them in Ironforge, which the route visits after 20. Take the higher vendor price.
➜
Take the northwestern road back to the wounded Sentinel and deliver the prepared salve.
The reward, Blade of Cunning, is a 6.75 DPS dagger with 2.00 speed and +2 Agility. Put it in the main hand and move Webwood Slicer to the off hand. A slower dagger hits harder per swing, which benefits both Sinister Strike and Backstab.
Ashwood Bow reaches farther and has more DPS than Small Throwing Knife (3.81 versus 1.00), but needs arrows and Bows training from Ilyenia Moonfire . Prefer less upkeep? Take the hammer to sell.
Vesprystus : unlock the flight path and fly to Auberdine. If the flight is unavailable, take the boat from Rut'theran to Auberdine; ask the dockmaster for its destination.
Anaya Dawnrunner is 16 while you are 13. Open from behind with Backstab, then use Elune's Light and Evasion early. If you cannot beat her, keep the quest; the southern loop passes the ruins again (step) before the Auberdine turn-in (step).
Find the red crystal at the eastern mountain wall and explore the area for The Red Crystal[14].
◎
Fill the supplied sampling tube at Cliffspring Falls to the northeast for The Cliffspring River[15].
◎
In the cave by Cliffspring River, gather five Scaber Stalks and one Death Cap for Cave Mushrooms[17]. Nagas are 15-17; Twilight's Hammer mobs by the Death Cap are 17-18. Pull one at a time and refill health before heading deeper.
Avoid jumping between cave ledges. A clear retreat matters more than a shortcut to a mushroom.
↩Head back: turn in 5 quests and pick up 4 new ones
Curvewood Dagger: a 7.00 DPS dagger with 1.50 speed and +1 Stamina. Put it in the off hand; keep Blade of Cunning in the main hand.

Only two moonstalker types drop these hides: Moonstalker Sire (17-18) and Moonstalker Matriarch (19-20). The closest are near the Grove of the Ancients, , and the Master's Glaive, . Pull Matriarchs one at a time for A Lost Master[20].
Requires actual level 16. Erion Shadewhisper[16] is just a referral and can be skipped. Keep this quest until Stormwind at 20, where Renzik "The Shiv" awaits (step), then continue to Lakeshire and Alther's Mill.

Start the ritual with full health; the demon appears immediately. Clear the approach before entering the dangerous bear den.
⚔︎Questing loop: “The Blackwood Corrupted” and “Tharnariun's Hope”
◎
Fill the bowl with cleansed water, gather food in Blackwood furbolg camps and start the ritual. Loot the demon's talisman for The Blackwood Corrupted[18].
Refill health and energy before the ritual. Use Elune's Light against the demon and build to a 5-point finisher. If furbolgs join, use Evasion.
◎
Den Mother waits in a cave northeast of Auberdine. Clear ordinary bears on the approach first for Tharnariun's Hope[18].
Den Mother is 18-19 while you are 16-17. Open from Stealth, then use Elune's Light and Evasion early. If you cannot beat her, keep the quest and return after the coastal deliveries (step); turn it in in Auberdine as usual.
➜
Follow the northern road to the camp near the Tower of Althalaxx.
Collect the three key parts from Foreststriders, coastal crabs and murlocs along the northern coast for Gyromast's Retrieval[20]. Crabs and murlocs here are 18-21; pull one at a time.

Timberland Cape is a cloak with +3 Spirit; Evergreen Gloves are cloth gloves. Take the cloak only if it improves your current one; otherwise, choose the higher vendor price.
From the southernmost remains, head east about 900 yards to the cave at . The lost druid is inside. Furbolgs are 18-20; pull individually and avoid unnecessary clears.
Once you actually reach 18, fly from Auberdine to Rut'theran and take the portal to Darnassus. Syurna : level 18 training, Ambush, Gouge (Rank 2), and the new passive Poised. Return the same way to Auberdine.
Not 18? First do the available parts of the next chapter: defend the Sentinel, deliver the letter and clear nagas. Raene's chain requires 18. Ambush requires a main-hand dagger. Playing Combat without one? Delay the training trip until Stormwind at 20 (step).

Follow the road south from Auberdine to the Grove of the Ancients, then toward Ashenvale. Heal up before defending the Sentinel.
Focus enemies attacking the Sentinel. Use Evasion for waves of two or three; eat and bandage between waves. If you fail, recover and accept the quest again.
➜
Cross the southern Darkshore border along the road. In Ashenvale, continue to Maestra's Post. Avoid Zoram'gar Outpost - it is a Horde camp.

◎
In the ruins, collect 6 Mathystra Relic from the ground - Mathystra Relics[20]. Start along the southwestern edge; skip relics surrounded by several naga.

Felicia Maline : unlock the flight path. Innkeeper Trelayne : set your hearth to Darkshire. Collect the town's quests before leaving.
Darkshire has no Auction House, but Herble Baubbletump also sells the tube when in stock. It must be Bronze, not Copper. No tube? Skip the entire stargazer chain, including its follow-ups.
Drops from:Lean Wolf Flank - Starving Dire Wolf, Lupos, Rabid Dire Wolf and others · Ghoul Fang - Flesh Eater, Bone Chewer, Brain Eater and others · Vial of Spider Venom - Venom Web Spider, Pygmy Venom Web Spider, Green Recluse and others · Skeleton Finger - Skeletal Warrior, Skeletal Horror, Skeletal Mage and others
Finish some totem ingredients at Raven Hill rather than farming the whole order in one place.
↩Head back: turn in 5 quests and pick up 6 new ones
Still 21? Skip the trip. Train 22 and 24 together when the route returns to Stormwind (step). Until 22, Shadowmeld is your backup combat escape.

Redridge: second loop
A short second Redridge loop while Duskwood's mobs are still too tough.

Orbs for Shadow Magic[23] only drop from Blackrock Shadowcasters near Stonewatch Keep. Short? Finish with the group and turn in alongside Tharil'zun[25].
This is a short chapter. Turn in everything possible in Darkshire before flying out to keep your quest log manageable.
Charys Yserian in Stormwind: Callous Axe from level 24, limited stock - a 15.00 DPS, 2.80-speed axe with +8 Attack Power, ≈ 25. Stronger than Longsword for Combat, but learn Axes from Buliwyf Stonehand in Ironforge (step).
Planning Ravenholdt (chapter)? Ask for Elegant Letter here. Trainers provide the letter from 24; check your mailbox if you do not receive it. In Classic, Mind-numbing Poison required 100 Poisons skill. Until then, keep Instant Poison on your weapons.
If less than an hour has passed since Raven Hill, your hearth is still on cooldown: take the southern road through Elwynn into Duskwood, then Darkshire.
The Legend of Stalvan[28] ends with a conversation. The finale, The Legend of Stalvan[35], involves level 32 Stalvan Mistmantle. Do it with a group at 29-30 in the optional branch (step). Finish the ogres, final Night Watch quest and cemetery deliveries on the last visit (step).
lvl 24-26
Group: Redridge elites
An optional group trip to the orc stronghold for leather boots and a chestpiece, then back to the main route.

Missing In Action[25] starts the escort immediately on acceptance. Clear Render's Camp and the escape route first.
If you still have orbs for Shadow Magic[23], deliver them to the marshal alongside Tharil'zun[25].
Green Belt gnolls and coastal murlocs are humanoids: use Pick Pocket before attacking and Sap on a second target. Crocolisks and spiders are beasts; neither works on them.
⚔︎ PvP
The Wetlands are contested: you become flagged automatically. Horde players cross Thandol Span toward the excavation. Stay stealthed on the road to Dun Modr.

In the north, between the Green Belt and Ironbeard's Tomb (), Mosshide Mistweavers, Fenrunners, Trappers, Brutes and Mystics drop flint for Fire Taboo[23]. The southern Gnolls and Mongrels do not. Nearby oozes at Ironbeard's Tomb drop the bag for Digging Through the Ooze[24].

New Forever quests alongside the familiar Whelgar's Excavation Site, raptor and orc circuit. Bring a partner for tough enemies.
0 of 23
Continue with Ironforge and Stormwind, then the final Duskwood loop. The chapters below - Ravenholdt, excavation dungeon, Stockade and Nek'rosh - are optional. Pick any or skip them all. Header levels are guidelines, not guaranteed XP milestones.

Incisors for Razormaw Needling[29] drop at Raptor Ridge northeast of the Green Belt, not at the excavation.
Lifting the Curse[30]: the captain is aboard a ship, the deck is cramped, and mobs respawn behind you. Bring a partner if possible.
Phytoblade requires 100 Herbalism to equip. The mail and cloth rewards are not upgrades either. Take the sword to sell: it has the highest vendor value.
⚔︎Questing loop: “War Banners” and “From the Ashes”
◎

lvl 27-29
Ravenholdt - Optional
A test of cunning, the Rogue manor and a new Forever quest in Durnholde Keep. About 3,900 XP and Ravenholdt reputation.
0 of 8
Optional class trip. Requires Elegant Letter (step) and Detect Traps. The Menethil Harbor-Southshore boat is new in Forever. You do not need this detour for XP; the main route continues in Ironforge.
Don't forget in this section
The trainer offers Elegant Letter from 24. Pick it up before the trip.
In Menethil Harbor, take the boat to Southshore, not Theramore.
Enable Detect Traps before the trial. Do not blindly open suspicious chests.
Hillsbrad Foothills are contested, with Tarren Mill nearby. Expect more Horde players here than elsewhere on this route. Approach the manor in Stealth and avoid shortcuts past Tarren Mill.
Missing the letter? Ask a Rogue trainer: Hulfdan Blackbeard in Ironforge provides it from 24.

Activate Detect Traps in the tunnel before the manor at . Approach the chest: detecting the trap completes the test - The Manor, Ravenholdt[24].
Do not open the chest. The guards above are neutral; you do not need to hide from them.
How to do this quest - The Manor, Ravenholdt
You need Detect Traps - learned from the trainer at 24. In the tunnel before the manor turn it on and walk up to the chest: the objective counts once you see the trap. Don't open the chest.
The way there: east from Tarren Mill across the river, past the huge tree - a zigzag trail up the mountain. The level 50 guards at the top are neutral, no need to hide.
QuestieDB lists the Syndicate here at 21-22 and the target at 24, manageable at 27. Pull lone enemies from the edge and pick their pockets: locked junkboxes provide Lockpicking practice.
Hearthstone on cooldown? Walk to Southshore and take the boat to Menethil. Confirm the destination with the dockmaster.
lvl 28-30
Group: Excavation Site: Wetlands
A new Forever dungeon at Whelgar's Excavation Site. A quest minimum of 24 does not make it soloable at 24.
0 of 13
Optional group run. Come for XP and the new dungeon quests; none of the quest weapon rewards suit a Rogue. Without a group, follow the main route. Continue there after any optional runs too.
From the harbor, pass the nature warden and head to Whelgar's camp. Excavation Site: Wetlands is beside Whelgar's Excavation Site, marked as a new area; distinguish it from the ordinary raptors outside.
Both rewards are two-handed. Rogues cannot equip them; pick whichever sells for more.
➜
➜≈ 150 yards west · ~20 s on foot
The turn-in leaves you in Ironforge. Hulfdan Blackbeard : train level 28 spells if missed (list). Then fly back to the Wetlands for other group quests or continue the main route.
lvl 28-30
Group: Stockade and Dun Modr
A separate group branch for Dun Modr quests and the Stockade. The Deadmines is not required.
In Ironforge after the excavation? Fly to the harbor with Gryth Thurden first. Find a group in the Wetlands, then approach Dun Modr's southern entrance. Do not cross Thandol Span.
Return to the harbor. Shellei Brondir : fly to Ironforge, then take the Deeprun Tram to Stormwind. Dungar Longdrink : fly to Lakeshire and Darkshire for two more Stockade quests.
Drops from:Head of Deepfury - Kam Deepfury · Head of Targorr - Targorr the Dread · Hand of Dextren Ward - Dextren Ward · Red Wool Bandana - Dextren Ward, Defias Prisoner, Defias Captive and others
Your job is damage and control. Prisoners are humanoids: use Sap before the pull. Open their pickpocketed junkboxes yourself to raise Lockpicking.
Fly to Lakeshire and Darkshire for turn-ins. Then take the Deeprun Tram to Ironforge and Gryth Thurden : fly to the harbor. Final turn-in is in Dun Modr.
Lucine Longsword is a 14.00 DPS, 2.50-speed main-hand sword. Take it if you know Swords. Otherwise sell the two-handed hammer; it is worth more than the staff.
Eye of Paleth is a held-in-off-hand item. That slot holds your blade; sell it.
lvl 29-30
Duskwood: unfinished business
Worgen, Raven Hill and the ogres of Vul'Gol Ogre Mound. At 30, visit Stormwind for training.
0 of 29
The main route after the Wetlands. Finish your existing chains; Eliza and Stalvan below are an optional group branch. Start level 30 training only once you reach 30.
Vul'Gol Ogre Mound's ogres roam in pairs. Start at full health.
¤ Shopping and useful stuff
Gavin Gnarltree : Broad Bladed Knife from 27, limited stock - a 16.75 DPS, 2.00-speed dagger with +5 Stamina, ≈ 284. Your best vendor main-hand dagger before 30.
Worgen runners and Vul'Gol ogres hit hard. Open from Stealth with Cheap Shot: four seconds of unanswered damage. If another mob joins, use Vanish; it requires powder.
⚔︎ PvP
Raven Hill and Vul'Gol Ogre Mound are far from Darkshire's guards. Spot a stealthed Horde player nearby? Do not pull ogres at half health.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Ogre Thieves”, “Look to the Stars” and “Merrick's Bow”
◎
One trip to Vul'Gol Ogre Mound: kill warriors and enforcers, take the leader's monocle and the hermit's crate, for Ogre Thieves[30] and Look to the Stars[30] and Merrick's Bow[28].
Drops from:Ogre's Monocle - Zzarc' Vul
The named ogre is tough: bring a partner. Skipped the new family branch? Complete only the quests you accepted.
↩Head back: turn in 5 quests and pick up 4 new ones
Crescent of Forlorn Spirits: main-hand axe, 18.13 DPS, 1.60 speed. Take it if you know Axes. The ring is for casters.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Bride of the Embalmer”
◎
Find Eliza's grave in the western cemetery. Start only once the whole group is ready; kill the summoned Eliza and take her heart - Bride of the Embalmer[30].
More undead will join. Agree beforehand who holds the boss. Kill the adds and interrupt with Kick.
The 1-30 route is complete. Typical next zones are Arathi Highlands, Hillsbrad Foothills and Thousand Needles; dungeons include Gnomeregan and Scarlet Monastery. No mount until 40: efficient routing and Sprint still matter.
✦
Rogue: Combat, Stealth and Training
Your rotation, Stealth, weapons and leather, class quests and training through 30
Night Elf Rogues start with Daggers, Thrown, Cloth and Leather. Learn Swords at 20 from Woo Ping in Stormwind, Fist Weapons from Ilyenia Moonfire in Darnassus, and Maces and One-Handed Axes from Buliwyf Stonehand in Ironforge. Daggers work for the entire route before 20: Sinister Strike works with any weapon.
Forever smooths out Energy regeneration and lets combo points survive target swaps. Sap also leaves you stealthed. There are trade-offs. Backstab hits about a third less hard and Rupture about 40% less than before. You can now train One-Handed Axes, and Mutilate is a talent that only opens at 40 since November 2.
Combo Points and Energy
Two buttons, used thoughtfully
Build points with Sinister Strike and spend them with Eviscerate. When the target is nearly dead, 2-3 points are enough. Waiting for five can waste energy and another swing.
Slice and Dice from 10 speeds up your attacks. Use it early in a long fight, not just before the target dies.
Combo points remain on the old target until you start building them on another. Swap to a second mob and return without using a builder, and your points remain, according to testers.
Stealth and Openers
Choose how to start the fight
Use Stealth and approach from behind. Openers: Backstab from 4 (dagger, behind only), Garrote from 14 (bleed), Ambush from 18 (dagger, heavy hit).
Pick Pocket from 4: use before attacking humanoids such as furbolgs, harpies, naga and cultists. A few coins per mob help pay for expensive training.
Sap from 10 keeps a humanoid out for 25 seconds without breaking your stealth in Forever. Sap one of a pair, then fight the other far enough away to leave it undisturbed.
How not to die
No Self-Heal
Gouge gives four seconds of breathing room from 6. Move behind the target for Backstab. A full bandage takes longer than that window, so save it for after the fight.
Use Evasion from 8 when two mobs are hitting you, not at the last sliver of health. Sprint from 10 helps you escape and travel.
Kick from 12 interrupts spells. Keep 25 Energy available against casters.
Vanish arrives at 22 (step). Night Elves have an earlier escape: Shadowmeld works in combat and makes mobs stop attacking, on a two-minute cooldown.
Bandages and food are your healing. Learn First Aid from Byancie in Dolanaar, then Dannelor in Darnassus.
19: Kris, 10.94 DPS, ≈ 71, sold by Xai'ander in Astranaar. A substantial damage upgrade before 20.
Quest swords (Brushwood Blade, Sentinel's Slasher) cannot be equipped before training at 20. Sell them. Axes and Maces also need training in Ironforge.
Thrown: starting Small Throwing Knife lasts until 20 because you only use it to pull. Teldrassil, Darkshore and Ashenvale have no thrown weapon vendors. The first knives and axes are in Lakeshire.
Agility and Stamina beat Intellect and Spirit. You can wear cloth, but leather usually offers more protection.
Weapons 20-30
Swords, Axes or Daggers
20: learn Swords from Woo Ping in Stormwind, about 10s (step). For Combat at 21, buy Longsword for your main hand: 12.17 DPS, 2.30 speed, ≈ 87. Sold by Gunther Weller in Stormwind and Gavin Gnarltree in Darkshire.
24-25: Callous Axe, 15.00 DPS, 2.80 speed, +8 Attack Power, ≈ 25. Limited stock from Charys Yserian in Stormwind. Learn Axes, new for Rogues in Forever, from Buliwyf Stonehand in Ironforge (step).
Purchases: cured leather from 17, Lara Moore in Stormwind; cuirboulli from 22, Duncan Cullen in the same city, but without stats. From 21 and 23: Stalking Pants (+6 Agility, +6 Stamina) and Saber Leggings (+7 Agility, +6 Spirit), limited stock from Wenna Silkbeard in the Wetlands.
Training costs about 20s through level 10, another 2g35s from 12-20, and about 12g20s from 22-30, using Wowhead Forever prices before reputation discounts. Wowhead does not list poison recipe prices; check the trainer. Ranks share the same ability name: read the rank number in the tooltip.
✦
Night Elf racials
Hide and Drop Combat
Shadowmeld: 10-second cooldown out of combat; conceals you while you stay still. In Forever it also works in combat: the description says enemies stop attacking you, with a two-minute cooldown.
Before Vanish at 22, this is an extra way to stop a bad pull. I'd try it on an easy pair first. You want to know whether the mobs leave or wait beside you before testing it with your last health.
Quickness: +1% dodge and +2% movement speed. Since October 15, the speed bonus stacks with other increases. A Night Elf is harder to detect in Stealth, as if one level higher, helping at Klaven's Tower (step).
15 Seconds of Extra Crit
Elune's Light, new in Forever: +10% attack and spell crit chance for 15 seconds, three-minute cooldown.
Wisp Spirit: after death, you become a wisp and move 75% faster toward your corpse, up from 50% in Classic. Death has no penalty below 10; a short corpse run can sometimes save travel time.
Night Elf Nature Resistance was removed in Forever.
Start with Skinning, then choose Mining for gold or Leatherworking for crafts. Add First Aid and Cooking. The Woodland Protector[1] offers a profession manual in Shadowglen. Pick with your two main slots in mind before using it.
The Dolanaar campfire is new in Forever and needs no profession. Sit by the fire; its quest sends you to the cook.
Cooked food grants Well Fed XP Boost: after eating for 10 seconds, +5% kill XP for 15 minutes. It does not affect quest turn-ins. Refresh it before a long clear.
Sell hides and leather in stacks if you are not crafting with them. Quest items only drop while their quest is in your log; you cannot gather them beforehand.
The level 20 poison quest rewards Recipe: Thistle Tea (step). Thistle Tea instantly restores 100 Energy on a five-minute cooldown, but the recipe requires 60 Cooking. It uses Swiftthistle, gathered by herbalists or bought at the Auction House. Level Cooking early and keep the recipe.
✦
What changes in Forever
Rogue
Energy regenerates smoothly instead of in two-second ticks. Combo points remain on your old target until you start building them on another, according to testers.
Sap no longer breaks Stealth. Distract makes enemies less able to detect stealthed targets; Feint removes twice as much threat.
The flat damage bonus of Backstab is about a third lower; Rupture is about 40% weaker. Poisons deal less damage per proc but have more charges.
Rogues can learn One-Handed Axes. Hack and Slash replaced four old weapon specializations and benefits every weapon type. The new Mutilate in Assassination costs 31 points since November 2 and opens at 40.
Throwing takes half a second; you must stop moving.
Night Elf
Shadowmeld works in combat, with a two-minute cooldown. Quickness also gives +2% movement speed; Wisp Spirit grants +75% wisp movement speed.
Elune's Light is a new racial: +10% crit for 15 seconds. Nature Resistance was removed.
New The Goddess Provides[1] in Shadowglen introduces both active racials and gives +50 Darnassus reputation.
Mobs sometimes parry or block from behind if you stand too close, making Backstab and Ambush miss more often. Take half a step back.
✦
Hearthstone, travel and common mistakes
Hearthstone and flights
Hearthstone: Dolanaar (step) → Auberdine (step) → Stormwind (step) → Darkshire (step) → Menethil Harbor (step) → Darkshire (step). Cooldown: one hour. Every Hearthstone step includes a walking alternative.
Reach Darnassus through the Rut'theran Village portal. Fly there from Auberdine with Caylais Moonfeather ; return with Vesprystus .
Unlock Astranaar's flight path (step) for later visits to Ashenvale.
Flight paths 20-30: Stormwind (step), Lakeshire (step), Sentinel Hill on the poison trip (step), Darkshire, Ironforge and Thelsamar (step, step), Menethil Harbor.
Trainers Along the Route
Shadowglen at 1 and 4; Dolanaar at 6, 8 and 10; Darnassus at 10 for the rose, 12 before leaving (step), 14-16 and 18. Darkshore has no Rogue trainer, so fly from Auberdine to Darnassus and back twice: 16, 18.
Do not fly just for 14: train it with 16. You can delay 18 until Stormwind if you do not need Ambush. Just don't forget the new passive Poised there.
From 20: Stormwind at 20, 22 and 24; Ironforge at 26 and 28; Stormwind at 30. The level 22 trip is optional: train 22 and 24 together (step).
Mistakes that waste time
Keep the rose and notes until the class chain asks for them. Sethir the Ancient is level 12. Approaching at 10 with half your health is a poor start to that fight.
Do not buy Thieves' Tools: the quest provides them. Do not buy swords or maces before training the skill; you cannot equip them.
Keep Erion's Behest[16] until Stormwind (step). It starts the Lockpicking chain, which ends in Redridge.
From 11, Spirit Healer resurrection gives Resurrection Sickness and costs 25% durability. Death skips become expensive.
Bring two Bronze Tubes for separate jobs. One is for the tower cure, the other for Darkshire's stargazer (step). Deliver the Lakeshire horseshoes in Goldshire during the poison trip too.
Woo Ping teaches Swords in Stormwind; Buliwyf Stonehand teaches Axes in Ironforge. They are separate skills. Phytoblade requires 100 Herbalism to equip.
Quest log: 20 slots in Classic; the Forever limit is unverified. This route stays at 14 or fewer. Pick up dungeon quests only when you have a group.
✦
Dungeons: Nearby Runs and Your Role
The route needs no dungeons before 20. Blackfathom Deeps, 22-26, remains in Kalimdor at the Zoram Strand. Accept Researching the Corruption[24] in Auberdine and In Search of Thaelrid[24], Twilight Falls[25] in Darnassus only if you find a group before sailing; otherwise they sit unfinished. At 20-30, the Stockade in Stormwind (step) and the new excavation dungeon (step) are optional group runs along the route.
