A Troll Warlock presses Life Tap for mana, then gets the health back with Rapid Regeneration instead of sitting down to eat. The route to 30 runs through Durotar and its new Forever quests, the Barrens, Stonetalon Mountains, the Eastern Kingdoms, Ashenvale, and Thousand Needles. You'll find when to do the Imp (Summon Imp), Voidwalker (Summon Voidwalker), and Succubus (Summon Succubus) quests, which DoTs to use, and where to get a staff and a wand.
Updated November 4, 2026 for Blizzard's November 2 changes: Drain Soul gives shards from ticks much less often, and demons get less health from your Stamina. Talent orders stayed the same.

What to install from CurseForge for Forever: the useful and the fun
Maps inside dungeons:Dungeon Crawler Forever shows floors, passages, bosses and quests. Open it with /dm. Its data changes with the beta: double-check quest requirements in game. More conveniences, screenshots and highlight commands - in the useful addons guide.
How to install. In the CurseForge app, add the game with the “+” button and point it to your Forever client folder - a Forever tab appears. Manually on the beta: the _classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns folder. Addons for regular Classic won't work - you need a file marked Forever (1.60.1). ★ - our pick.
Already in the game - no addon needed: coordinates on the map and minimap (turn them on in the settings), quest objectives on the map (the “Enhanced” template at first login, or the quest objectives option), a damage meter, a swing timer, the Cooldown Manager, one combined bag, an equipment manager and a modern auction house. Not in the game: a threat meter, markers for quests you haven't picked up yet, and a /way command.
Quests and map
★ Questie - who gives quests and where the objectives are, on the map and minimap. It still lacks some of the new Forever quests.
★ TomTom - an arrow to a point. The coordinates on this site copy as a /way command for it.
★ Leatrix Maps - reveals unexplored parts of the map, shows dungeon entrances, and the map can be enlarged.
Forever Quest Tint - tints the text of new Forever quests, so you see at a glance what's new.
Conveniences
★ Leatrix Plus - auto quest turn-in, junk selling, repairs, fast loot and dozens of small things. There's a separate version for Forever.
★ Baganator - proper bags and bank: the built-in combined bag can't be moved. A similar one - Bagnon.
★ Auctionator - posts auctions quickly, remembers prices and shows them in tooltips.
★ Platynator - draws neat bars above mobs and marks the ones you need for a quest. Very handy while leveling.
Professions
★ GatherLite - herbs, ore and fish on the map: it already ships with more than 26 thousand points made for Forever.
GatherMate2 - the same, but it only remembers points as you gather them yourself.
For fun: voiceover and dialogue
★ Spoken - English voiceover for quests, books and zones. On the Forever forums it gets the most praise: “like an audiobook”. More in the addons guide.
★ Immersion - movie-style NPC dialogue instead of the usual quest window.
Optional
Details! or ThreatClassic2 - threat in dungeons: the built-in damage meter doesn't show it.
Easy Experience Bar - experience per hour and how much is left to the next level.
Dungeon Journal - dungeon quests and loot: Forever has no dungeon journal of its own.
WeakAuras has no Forever version; use the fork ForeverAuras instead (it can do what the built-in Cooldown Manager sees).
For mail, instead of Postal try Forever Mail: recipient picker, mail history and attachment lists. More in the general addons guide.
Zygor and ElvUI aren't installed through CurseForge.
Combat “helpers” that do calculations are banned in Forever, as in the modern game: addons may display, but not calculate.
For Warlocks
Soul Shards Forever - Soul Shards don't stack in Forever, and this addon keeps them in order: it shows your shard count on the bag button, moves them into your soul bag and deletes the extras above your limit with one key (not in combat). Set the limit with /ssf setmax 6, delete an extra one with /ssf delete or the macro /click SSFDelete. Forever only (file 1.60.1 from October 13).
Shard Grid - your shards in a grid, like in a bag, and an alert when you have fewer than five. From level 20 it helps with summoning: it collects "summon me" requests from chat into a list, tracks who has your soulstone and puts Minor Healthstone into the trade window. Settings - /shards. Forever file 1.60.1 from October 12, no dependencies.

How not to lose hours while leveling
Small things about your route, mobs, mana, and speed that add up to hours over a whole leveling run
Route
Running around eats roughly a third of all leveling time. So grab quests in bundles and finish them in one trip, with at least two or three objectives close together on the map.
Don't be afraid to drop a quest with a rare drop, an NPC who isn't there, or an objective on the far side of the zone. Leave escorts for the end of the loop, since they usually run through the same mobs the nearby quests need.
Heading to the next spot with full mana and health? Kill mobs on the way. You regenerate anyway, and a couple of extra mobs on every run adds up to hours by the end.
While a mob is dying, start walking to the next one. Finish off the last few percent with auto attacks or a wand instead of a big spell.
Which mobs
Green mobs die fast and are barely a threat, but in Forever they give 4-20% less XP than in Classic. Blizzard says that's intended. Look at XP per hour, not at the color.
Yellow and green mobs are a fine pick. Orange and red ones are almost always worse. There's no XP penalty, but you miss more, fights drag on, and your mana and health melt faster. The one exception is elite group quests, if you've got a group.
Supplies and timing
Always carry food and water, or you'll get stuck in the middle of a mob camp with empty bars. Addons that auto-sell gray items and auto-repair at a vendor save time too.
Use your Hearthstone and long-cooldown abilities on cooldown, not "for later." The perfect moment might never come.
Spirit is useful for everyone while leveling, because you spend less time sitting between fights. Got an item with Spirit that's a bit weaker on other stats? I'd keep it.
Build and trainer
Leveling talents aren't level 60 talents. While leveling, you're your own tank and healer, so defensive and recovery talents beat an extra percent of damage.
The Legacy perk "Thrill of Adventure" gives back up to 5% health and mana after you kill a mob that gives XP.
New ranks show up every 2 levels, but not every trip to the trainer is worth it. Check what you'll actually get, and don't fly to a capital for a rank that barely changes anything.
People
Buff someone who's passing by, and they'll probably return the favor.
Elite quests go faster with a partner, and on PvP servers it's a lot safer too.
DoTs
The free addon Does It Die shows whether the DoTs already ticking will finish the mob. If they will, a skull shows up on the target's portrait and you can move on to the next one. It's made for Forever, and the settings are under /did.
✦
Leveling talents
Pick a build for 10-30 and follow its point order
You'll have 21 talent points between 10 and 30. I'd put them into Affliction: DoTs and Wand, the beta recommendation from Warcraft Tavern, Method, and Mobalytics. Demonology is sturdier and gets praise for reliability on the forums, but doesn't really get going until about 25. Destruction is a dungeon option. A capital Warlock trainer can reset your points, such as Zevrost in Orgrimmar. At launch, a reset costs 1 gold or more. That's enough to hurt your early training budget, so choose a point order before you spend it. Hover a talent for its tooltip. The calculator button opens the same build and point order.
Affliction: DoTs and Wandmain21 / 0 / 0Let the Voidwalker tank, apply DoTs, and finish with a wand. It's the familiar solo setup, with a core that matches Warcraft Tavern and Method.
At 30, take Siphon Life. It's another DoT, with healing attached.
The first 5 points at 10-14 don't feel dramatic. If your demon keeps losing aggro, one beta suggestion is to start with Suppression. That order is workable too.
October 15 patch: the old DoT damage talent was replaced by Grim Reach, with two ranks. At 27, finish Suppression. At 28-29, put two points into Improved Drains for your drains. The order below is already updated.
Affliction: Drain Lifesturdy21 / 0 / 0Use Drain Life to recover while your demon holds another mob. Warcraft Tavern's drain-tanking advice and Mobalytics provide the core. You can handle more at once with fewer food stops.
Drains cost a fair amount of mana, and beta opinions are divided. If the cycle doesn't keep you going, I'd reset to the DoTs-and-wand build at a capital trainer.
Demonology: Demon Up Frontsafe0 / 21 / 0A tougher, stronger Voidwalker carries more of the work. You get Soul Link at 30. Method warns that the tree starts slowly, so expect the payoff later.
At 30, Soul Link redirects 30% of incoming damage to your demon. Taking Demonic Sacrifice at 20 is a prerequisite for it. You don't need to sacrifice your solo tank.
Damage trails Affliction before 20. Save Searing Pain for 25, when you've taken Demonic Brand. Before that it can pull the mob off your demon.
Destruction: For Groupsdungeons0 / 0 / 21Faster casts and larger crits for a dungeon group or a partner. Solo, you'll spend more time standing still and casting, as Warcraft Tavern points out.
When to press them, and how a Troll compares to an Orc here
If you ask me, Troll and Warlock is the comfiest pairing for leveling. Life Tap turns health into mana, and Rapid Regeneration gives the health back for free.
Using them on the route
Rapid Regeneration gives back half your health over 6 seconds on a 3-minute cooldown. After a fight, use Life Tap until your mana is where you want it, then the racial (step). Any action, movement, or damage breaks the channel.
Berserking makes your casts 10% faster for 15 seconds, 3-minute cooldown. It's handy on a long elite fight when you're standing still and casting nonstop.
Regeneration speeds up your out-of-combat health regen by 20%, and a fifth of your regen keeps going in combat. For a class that spends health on mana all day, that adds up.
Beast Slaying adds 5% damage against beasts, and the Barrens are full of them.
Troll or Orc?
Orcs got Command back in October, so their demons hit 5% harder. They also have Blood Fury (+10% attack power and spell power for 15 seconds, 2-minute cooldown) and Hardiness, which makes stuns 20% shorter.
Your demon does a real share of the damage, so the Orc is probably ahead on raw damage. The Troll wins on mana and downtime. For leveling I'd take the Troll, and for dungeons and PvP I'd give the Orc a serious look.

Valley of Trials
The Orc and Troll starting valley · the Imp from a class quest, the Den and Burning Blade Coven
0 of 15
Pick up the Den quests together, clear a loop, and return for the turn-ins. Allow about 40 minutes to reach 5-6. Do Vile Familiars[4] for your Imp. The trainer doesn't simply sell it. This replaces the general quest for 12 familiars that Zureetha Fargaze offers other classes.
Don't forget in this section
The valley's Warlock trainer Nartok only teaches up to level 6. After that - Dhugru Gorelust in Razor Hill and the trainers in Orgrimmar.
Galgar's Cactus Apple Surprise[3] rewards a gathering profession book. A Warlock wants Enchanting (your own wand) and Tailoring. You only need the book if a friend will make your wands (step).
◈ Loot along the way
Don't sell the boar meat: you'll learn Cooking in Razor Hill (step), and in Forever food gives +5% experience. Sell the rest of your gray items to a vendor.
➶ Level faster
Until level 10 death costs almost nothing: no "Resurrection Sickness", you just lose a little durability. Getting from the Coven back to the Den is faster with a death run.
The Imp can't hold anything, so mobs hit you - keep the Demon Skin buff up at all times. On the plus side, it shoots on its own (Firebolt): send it at the mob first, then cast your own spells.

Summon the Imp and keep it out. The demon trainer Hraug stands next to the Warlock trainer: according to the game files he has Grimoire of Blood Pact (Rank 1)≈ 1 (from 4) - the Imp learns Blood Pact, and you get Stamina. Whether grimoires are actually sold on the beta hasn't been checked - take a look.
The cave is cramped and the mobs stand close together: pull one at a time from the edge while the Imp shoots. Back to the Den with a "death run": before level 10 it costs almost nothing.

You don't have the Voidwalker yet - don't take on two at once.
How to do this quest - Hidden Enemies
The insignia doesn't drop from the first mob: plan on about 15 minutes and kill every Burning Blade in the cave in a row.

It can take a lot of punishment but hits weakly: Bane of Agony, Corruption, Immolate, the Imp shoots, and you finish it with Shadow Bolts. Start at full mana.
The summon costs a Soul Shard. The Voidwalker keeps mobs on itself: send it in, let it land 1-2 hits (it uses Torment on its own) and only then apply DoTs - otherwise the mob comes for you. Don't open with Immolate. No more Imp when you're solo: you need it in a group, where Blood Pact gives everyone Stamina.

Drain Life heals you while the demon holds the mob: while leveling it's your second food. Curse of Recklessness stops humanoids from running for help at 20% health, but a target with it can't be feared: Fear won't work on it. Unending Breath (16, 12) is only needed underwater, in Blackfathom Deeps (step): not going there - save the money; going - learn it here or at 20-22. Not 16 yet - you'll learn Life Tap at 20 (step).
Have a group? Now's the time for Ragefire Chasm: the entrance is right here, in the Cleft of Shadow (section). Run it with your group before you fly back.
A 13-18 dungeon right inside Orgrimmar · the best staff until 20
0 of 3
The entrance is in the Cleft of Shadow, a stone's throw from your trainers. For a Warlock the main thing here is Hidden Enemies[16]: Staff of Orgrimmar (+18 spell power and +6 Intellect) is the best staff until 20. No group? Don't take the quests from here. How to play in a group - see the "Dungeons" section.
Before you go in: a Minor Healthstone for you and the healer (a shard per stone); in a group, bring the Imp instead of the Voidwalker: Blood Pact gives everyone Stamina.
The dagger Kris of Orgrimmar is weaker: +11 spell power against the staff's +18. According to the Forever database, Hidden Enemies[16] gives a choice of weapons; in Classic Era players reported that there was no reward - if the quest window is empty, let us know.

Orgrimmar and the southern Barrens: the start of the Succubus chain
Your level 18 and 20 spells, Cazul and Zankaja, Camp Taurajo, the Field of Giants and the elite Chol'aruk
0 of 11
At 20 the trainer teaches seven spells at once, including Demon Armor and Curse of the Elements, and Gan'rul Bloodeye starts the Succubus chain: eight quests through Orgrimmar, the Crossroads, Malaka'jin and Camp Taurajo. Every stop is on the route, and you get the Succubus itself at 22. First a short flight to Orgrimmar, then clear the Barrens up to 21: Camp Taurajo, the Field of Giants, the elite Chol'aruk (only with a partner). Keep your hearthstone at the Crossroads.
Chol'aruk the Ravener[21] - Chol'aruk (level 20 elite) with elite guards, Wrongly Blamed, Justly Corrected[23] - an elite level 23 pillager. With a partner you'll finish both quickly. Solo at 20-21 you have almost no chance even with the Voidwalker: no partner - take neither of them.
Going to both Shadowfang Keep (23-24) and Blackfathom Deeps (28) with a group? Take The Orb of Soran'ruk[25] (step): the fragments only drop while the quest is in your log.
Tusks, heads and adornments only drop while you have the quests - take everything at Taurajo and the Crossroads before you go hunting.
Cloth from the Bristlebacks and Razormane goes into Wool Bandages or Tailoring. Don't sell the Blood Shard from Bristlebacks: Mangletooth gives you a Spirit buff for them (step).
➶ Level faster
At 20, switch the Demon Skin buff for Demon Armor: more armor and faster health regeneration, and for you health is mana through Life Tap. Keep it up at all times.
The southern Barrens rares - Humar the Pridelord (level 23 elite) and Takk the Leaper: they drop pieces of the same set with +5% run speed. If you see one, don't walk past.
⚔︎ PvP
Chol'aruk is a target for the Alliance too - they have their own version of the quest. If someone else is hanging around his camp, they're not necessarily on your side: it may be an Alliance player with the same quest. On PvP realms in the Barrens it's the Alliance player who gets flagged, not you.
Arathi Basin will most likely open at 20 only at launch: on the beta, according to testers, only the new battleground from 30 works.
⌂Turn in 3 quests, pick up 13 new ones and visit your trainer
Cazul also offers Love Hurts[20] - the start of the Incubus chain. Don't take it now: its target is in Ashenvale at 27-28, and you can also pick it up at 22 (step).
Wrongly Blamed, Justly Corrected[23] has an elite level 23 pillager and level 22-23 Alliance soldiers: solo at 20-21 you have almost no chance. The Orb of Soran'ruk[25] rewards Staff of Soran'ruk: +34 Shadow and Fire damage and +14 Stamina, the best weapon on the route. If you won't have a group for both dungeons, don't take it: the quest will sit in your log until 30.

Northeast of the Crossroads, if you took the quest: Chol'aruk with elite guards - his head for Chol'aruk the Ravener[21]. Ishamuhale doesn't roam: while you have the quest, any zhevra drops a fresh carcass - use it at the withered tree and he comes running. The fang - Ishamuhale[19].
Drops from:Chol'aruk's Head - Chol'aruk
Chol'aruk is a level 20 elite, and so are his guards: only with a partner. Didn't work out? Abandon Chol'aruk the Ravener[21]: the quest doesn't unlock anything. Ishamuhale hits hard: the Voidwalker holds him, you use DoTs and your wand, with a Minor Healthstone ready.
How to do this quest - Chol'aruk the Ravener
The lair is a cave, entrance . Inside are level 18-20 elites, but they're spread out: go around them along the edge and you'll reach him with almost no fights. He has about 5.5k health.
The quest marker points to the Wetlands - that's a beta bug, he's in the Barrens.
Drops from:Bristleback Quilboar Tusk - Bristleback Hunter, Bristleback Water Seeker, Bristleback Thornweaver and others
The rare elite Swinegart Spearhide fears everything around him - go around. Bristlebacks walk in twos and threes: the demon holds one, the second gets Bane of Agony and Corruption; if a third one runs up - Fear, but only if nothing is behind it. Kill the Geomancers first: they cast from range.
How to do this quest - Lakota'mani
Lakota'mani is a big gray-pink kodo west of the road north of Taurajo. The blue beast east of the road is Owatanka, that's a different quest.
Silithid Swarmers summon a pile of small critters - kill the Swarmers first, before the little ones pile on. According to a beta report, the soldiers respawn slowly - if you meet another player on this quest, invite them to your group. The pillager too tough? Abandon Wrongly Blamed, Justly Corrected[23]: at 29 you can solo him (step). Stepping Stones[24] leads to Stonetalon - you'll turn it in there.

Stonetalon is a contested zone: on PvP realms your flag turns on here by itself. The Alliance from Stonetalon Peak quests at Windshear Crag - on the same goblins as you.
The hatchlings can call a level 22 matriarch: the demon holds her, you use DoTs and your wand. Arachnophobia[21] rewards the staff Clear Crystal Rod (the name says "Rod", but it's a staff; +14 spell power).
Two rare elites roam here - a Venture Co. overseer and a foreman. Go around them. If the goblin dies, the quest fails: abandon Gerenzo's Orders[22] and take it again when he's back. Doesn't work the second time either? Abandon it and later turn in only Super Reaper 6000[21]. Dungeons are done in a group of five: no group - don't take The Book of Ur[26], or the quest will just sit in your log. You'll take the Ruins of Lordaeron quests right before the run (at 24). Skipping the Ruins hurts a Warlock: Gnarled Necromancer's Staff from The Wrath of Rath'mael[22] is the best solo staff for this stretch. Without a group you'll fall about 2 levels behind (an estimate from beta data: dungeon quests at 22-29 are worth about 75 thousand experience): western Ashenvale, the southern Barrens and the backup quests in Thousand Needles (step) cover part of it, and you make up the rest with mobs along the way. The main prize here for a Warlock is Gnarled Necromancer's Staff from The Wrath of Rath'mael[22]: a staff with +26 spell power and +10 Spirit. No group for the Ruins? Go from the Sepulcher straight to Hillsbrad (step): you'll turn in The Book of Ur[26] and learn your level 24 spells in Undercity at 26 (step).

Corruption is the important one. Rank 1 Drain Soul also gives a shard and costs less - keep it on your action bar. You don't need Sense Demons and Drain Mana for leveling. Grimoire of Suffering (Rank 1) teaches the Voidwalker Suffering: it pulls mobs within 10 yards of it off you, but the cooldown is 2 minutes. Not 24 yet? Beta chases often end at a zone border, where the other player can disappear into a different layer. That's another copy of the zone. A border may help you escape, but chasing someone across it can waste your time.
According to beta data, the exact spot where Deathstalker Masoj stands is still being confirmed - follow the quest marker. South of the vantage point, in Dun Garok itself , there are level 28-30 dwarves, and the riflemen shoot from range: approach the vantage point from the north and don't go down.
How to do this quest - Scout Support
According to a tester's comment, the quest only opens after the second “Battle of Hillsbrad” (level 25): if High Executor Darthalia doesn't offer it, turn that one in and ask again. Deathstalker Masoj himself stands alone on a hill north of Nethander Stead .
The peaks, according to testers' comments: on the hills above Dun Garok , on the plateau above Durnholde , and above the yeti cave , not inside it. Level 33 mountain lions roam by the third one - approach carefully.

Not every mob drops the scarf; the drop chance on the beta is unknown - expect roughly 10-15 minutes. The rare Eck'alom (27) stuns for 15 seconds - leave it alone.
How to do this quest - Stonetalon Standstill
Just walk under the gazebo roof - you don't need to click anything.
Je'neu of the Earthen Ring[27] rewards the cloak Soft Willow Cape (+5 Intellect). No Zoram'gar flight path? It's about an 8-10 minute walk (an estimate); give Astranaar a wide berth: the Alliance guards will attack.
⚔︎Questing loop: “Between a Rock and a Thistlefur”, “Troll Charm” and “Freedom to Ruul”
Before the escort, clear the path out of the village - you'll be attacked on the way. Kill the Shamans first; Curse of Tongues (26) slows their spells.
How to do this quest - Troll Charm
In the cave the mobs stand in twos and threes and respawn quickly - watch your back. The charm chests respawn quickly too: you can circle one hall.
West of Splintertree, Greenpaw Village , home of the Foulweald furbolgs: plant the banner at the totem and fight off the furbolg waves, Chief Murgut comes last - King of the Foulweald[26]. Back at Splintertree: Yama Snowhoof - turn in ?Freedom to Ruul[24].
The furbolgs come two or three at a time: the Voidwalker holds them, you put DoTs on all of them. Before the fight - a soulstone on yourself and a Lesser Healthstone in your bags; if you bought Grimoire of Suffering (Rank 1) at 24, Suffering (2-minute cooldown) pulls everything off you for one wave.
How to do this quest - King of the Foulweald
First kill the furbolgs around the mound. Then stand on the mound and use the banner from your bags.
After the banner, two always come, and Chief Murgut appears on a timer, not after they die. Don't waste cooldowns on the first two.
Drops from:Large Soran'ruk Fragment - Shadowfang Darksoul
Half the dungeon is underwater: watch your breath bar and fight in the water only near air bubbles. Unending Breath (16, if you learned it) lets you and your group breathe underwater. The naga priestesses and oracles heal: put Curse of Tongues on them. Twilight's Hammer cultists are humanoids: Seduction puts one to sleep.
Baron Aquanis[30] rewards Witch's Finger for your off hand (+4 Stamina, +8 Intellect) if you fight with a dagger; with a staff - whatever sells for more.
The level 28 trainer, a Succubus grimoire and binding the Incubus
0 of 3
From Ashenvale, a short detour through Orgrimmar: Thunder Bluff has no Warlock trainers, and at 28 you get Bane of Agony (rank 3) and Shadow Bolt (rank 5). If you did the Incubus chain, you'll turn in the scarf and summon him right here.
Banish holds a demon or elemental for 20 seconds. Create Firestone is now a weapon enchant (Forever): you need it if you level as Destruction. You can skip Health Funnel (rank 3, 50). Not 28 yet? You'll learn all this at 30 right here in Orgrimmar (step).

Turn-ins and the Gravestone Scepter · a new Forever camp on Skywatcher Plateau
0 of 7
Turning in the Stonetalon and Ashenvale quests - and something new in Forever: in northwestern Mulgore, above Thunder Bluff, an Earthen Ring camp on Skywatcher Plateau. Three level 30 quests, about 2.5 thousand experience each, mobs 27-29.
Don't forget in this section
The Broodmother[31] is an elite level 31 spider: group only. No group? Don't take it - the quest doesn't unlock anything.
For Blackfathom Villainy[27], take Gravestone Scepter: a wand with 29 damage per second, +3 Spirit and +6 Shadow damage - the best wand up to 30 and beyond.
Thunder Bluff has two elevators - on the southwest and northeast sides. The plateau is northwest of the bluff: take either one down and go around the bluff (which elevator is closer hasn't been checked yet).
New in Forever
⚔︎Questing loop: “Defending the Dead”, “Stronger than Steel”, “Talkin' bout Toxins, Mon” and “The Broodmother”
The spiders come in twos and threes: pull from the edge, the Voidwalker holds one, DoTs on all of them; if you bought Grimoire of Suffering (Rank 1) at 24, Suffering pulls the extras off you, but only once every 2 minutes. Between packs - Life Tap and food.
The Broodmother[31] rewards Transformative Cocoon: it absorbs damage and stuns you for 5 seconds, then gives +60% speed for 8 seconds. Good for escaping.

Back to Thunder Bluff by the same elevator. Tal: fly to Camp Taurajo.
If your level 29 experience bar is less than half full, do the southern Barrens first (roughly 15 thousand experience), otherwise Thousand Needles may not be enough to get you to 30.
+34 Shadow and Fire damage and +14 Stamina - stronger than anything else you get before 30. Take the off-hand Orb of Soran'ruk only if you fight with a dagger.

About 15 thousand experience near Taurajo, on the way to Thousand Needles. Useful if you're short of 30 or you've got a group for Razorfen Kraul.
Set your hearthstone at Freewind Post: it brings you from Orgrimmar straight back here, to the 30+ quests (step).
⚔︎ PvP
Thousand Needles is contested, but the Alliance has almost no quests here until 30+, so you can relax a bit. Stranglethorn Vale comes next, and there everyone fights everyone.
Neither reward from The Sacred Flame[29] is for you - take whichever sells for more.

Not 30 yet? Make it up right here: Cliffwatcher Longhorn now gives Grimtotem Spying[28] - three Secret Notes in crates at Darkcloud Pinnacle , in the Grimtotem Tauren camp. Elu gives Wind Rider[29] - 10 Highperch Wyvern Eggs at Highperch in the west .
Both quests are turned in to whoever gave them. Grimtotem Spying[28] rewards Desert Shoulders: cloth, +5 Intellect and +5 Spirit.

The level 30 trainer and, optionally, the start of the Felhunter chain
0 of 5
The closest Warlock trainer to Thousand Needles is in Orgrimmar: there are none in Ratchet or Thunder Bluff. From Freewind Post - fly to the city, train and hearth back. Set aside about 4 gold for your level 30 training.
Don't forget in this section
The Felhunter is a 30-33 chain: Seeking Strahad[30] leads to Ratchet, where Strahad Farsan gives Tome of the Cabal[30], then Undercity, chests in Hillsbrad and Thousand Needles and wands from the Dragonmaw clan in the Wetlands. That's the next part of the guide. You don't need the Felhunter for leveling - it's for PvP and groups.
⚔︎ PvP
Level 30 - battlegrounds. On the beta the new battleground Darkspear Islands, 15 vs 15, opens at 30. The battlemasters in the capitals queue you, and there's also a portal in the Darkspear Raiders camp north of Ratchet . Testers complain about getting feared straight into the water with the sharks - your Fear works the same way there.
Against a Priest, Fear Ward blocks one Fear. Cast it again. An Undead player's Will of the Forsaken only removes fear in Forever and gives no immunity afterward, so fear them again.

Seeking Strahad[30] leads to Ratchet: there Strahad Farsan gives Tome of the Cabal[30] - the start of the Felhunter chain. You can't finish it right away; it's already part of 30+. Not planning on it? Don't take it.

Dungeons: what to pick up in advance
Quests offered far from the entrance, and what a Warlock brings to a group
In Forever, experience from dungeon mobs is lower, while dungeon quests give 2-3 times the experience of normal ones (even after the beta bonus was cut in half). Going in without quests makes little sense - collect them in advance, but not earlier than needed: quests "for later" clog your log. In a group a Warlock brings damage plus utility nobody else has: healthstones, a soulstone on the healer and, from 20, summoning.
Warlock in a group: the short version
Curses, crowd control, stones and summoning
Before entering, give everyone a Healthstone: Minor Healthstone, or Lesser Healthstone from 22. Each costs a Soul Shard and must be traded directly. From 18, put a Soulstone (Create Soulstone) on the healer. Use your Imp for Blood Pact, which gives the whole party Stamina. From 20, use your Succubus for damage.
A bane and a curse on the same target - new in Forever. Bane of Agony on the boss, and pick the curse for your group: Curse of Recklessness (14) - lots of melee, Curse of the Elements (20) - lots of casters (+4% magic damage), Curse of Weakness - the boss hits the tank hard, Curse of Tongues (26) - a caster boss. Two Warlocks in the group? Agree with the other one: identical curses don't stack.
Threat: give the tank 2-3 hits, then DoTs. Searing Pain generates a lot of threat. Use Life Tap, but not down to zero: restore your health yourself with Drain Life, not with the healer's mana.
Crowd control: Fear only to save the healer, and warn the group first: a feared mob brings the next pack. Banish (28) holds a demon or elemental, the Succubus's Seduction (grimoire at 26) - a humanoid.
Summoning: Ritual of Summoning (20) - you and two more players at the portal, costs a shard. Meeting stones in Forever don't summon anyone - you're the only quick way to gather the group at the entrance.
In a group, set the Imp to Passive: on Aggressive he pulls packs on his own.

What to train, which demon to use and how to keep your mana up - up to level 30
Forever separates banes from curses. You can keep Bane of Agony and a curse on the same target. Rank 1 Life Tap returns 30 + Spirit mana, giving Spirit gear real value. Rank 1 Drain Soul deals 85 damage instead of 55, and any tick can produce a shard (that chance was cut hard on November 2). Spell Curse of the Elements arrives at 20 instead of 32 and affects all magic damage. Your Create Healthstone heals for 120 instead of 100, and demons scale with your stats, though since November 2 each point of your Stamina gives them 2 health instead of 7.5. To summon players, you still need Ritual of Summoning. Meeting stones won't do it. The September 24 notes also removed spell-power scaling from wands.
How to level. Let your Voidwalker tank while you kill from range. Send it in and let it land 1-2 hits, then apply Bane of Agony, Corruption and, on a mob that will live a while, Immolate. Wand while the DoTs tick. Shadow Bolt costs a lot of mana. Use it when you have plenty or Nightfall procs. Low mana with more than half health? Use Life Tap, even in combat while your demon tanks. Finish the last mob in a pack with Drain Soul for a free Soul Shard. From 14, Drain Life restores health. After combat, use Rapid Regeneration or food. Since the October 15 patch, wands require you to stand still for 0.5 seconds before firing. For a second mob, apply DoTs and use Fear while finishing the first, but only if the area is clear.
Horde Warlock trainers: Nartok in the Valley of Trials (up to level 6), Dhugru Gorelust in Razor Hill, Zevrost , Grol'dar and Mirket in Orgrimmar, Kaal Soulreaper in Undercity. There are no trainers in the Barrens, Ratchet or Thunder Bluff. Demon trainers (grimoires): Hraug in the valley, Kitha in Razor Hill, Kurgul in Orgrimmar. At Wowhead prices, all training comes to about 20 up to 10, about 274 up to 20 and about 1376 up to 30, without a reputation discount.
Demons
Which one to use and what to buy for them
Summon Imp (1-4, quest Vile Familiars[4]): ranged damage, can't hold anything. From 10 - only in groups: Blood Pact gives everyone Stamina.
Summon Succubus or Summon Incubus (20, quests): hits much harder but holds threat worse. One mob, and you top up your health with a channeled Drain Life - the Succubus. Several mobs or an elite - the Voidwalker. Seduction (15 seconds of humanoid control) - only if you bought Grimoire of Seduction at 26.
Summoning the Voidwalker or a sayaad costs a shard. While you summon a new demon, the old one is stunned - swapping demons mid-fight is pointless (according to the October 8 beta notes).
DoTs and rotation
Damage per point of mana (Forever tooltips)
Bane Bane of Agony deals 72 damage over 24 seconds for 25 mana. Most of that value comes late. Don't spend the mana if the mob will die in under 10 seconds.
Apply Corruption for 40 damage over 12 seconds at a cost of 35 mana. From 14, it deals 65 over 15 seconds. Keep it in your ordinary pull sequence.
Use Immolate for its initial hit and burn on longer-lived targets. Wait for the demon's Torment first, or the initial damage can bring the mob straight to you.
Spell Shadow Bolt costs roughly three times as much mana for its damage as the bane. Use spare mana or a proc from Nightfall rather than spamming it between pulls.
Use Life Tap for 30 + Spirit mana a cast, rising to 75 + Spirit from 16. Keep more than half your health and let the demon hold the mob. Spirit now helps pay for your spells.
From 14, Drain Life restores 10 health a second over 5 seconds at 20-yard range. Hits can interrupt the channel, so keep the mob on your demon where possible.
Between fights, food restores health you can turn into mana and adds Forever's +5% kill-experience bonus. Bandages restore health without spending mana too.
Spell Health Funnel heals the demon at your expense. One beta measurement put a full level 20 Voidwalker heal at about a minute. If you have a shard and time to summon safely, replacing it is faster.
Shards, stones and bags
How many to keep and where to find room
Channel Drain Soul on a mob that gives experience to collect Soul Shard. A death during the channel works, and Forever also gives each tick a chance that rises after unsuccessful ticks, but that chance was cut hard on November 2.
Shards don't stack. Keep 3-6 for the demon, Minor Healthstone, a soulstone, and a spare. From 20, carry another for Ritual of Summoning. You can clear excess shards when they're eating your bag space.
At 10, Minor Healthstone restores 120 health. From 22, Lesser Healthstone restores 300. You can carry one and use it every 2 minutes, so replace it after a fight. Warcraft Tavern lists its cooldown separately from potions.
From 18, make a soulstone with Create Soulstone. It resurrects with 400 health and 700 mana. Put it on yourself before an elite or another risky quest.
Conjured stones disappear if you log out for more than 15 minutes.
Fear can buy time for an extra mob, a dead demon, or low health. Let DoTs tick and wand while it runs, or use the opening for a bandage or healthstone.
The problem is where the mob runs. A feared target can cross the next pack and bring it back. I'd avoid using it near camps, guards, or cave corridors unless the alternative is dying.
Damage can break fear early. A target carrying Curse of Recklessness can't be feared, so choose your curse with that in mind.
In dungeons, save fear for a real emergency such as the healer dying. Warn the group before using it.
Look for spell power first, with Shadow for Affliction or Demonology and Fire for Destruction. Then Stamina and Spirit, followed by Intellect. Affliction talent Suppression covers much of your hit need. The other builds don't take it, so hit gear remains useful there.
Berserking: +10% attack and casting speed for 15 seconds, with a 3-minute cooldown. Use it when you can stand still and cast. It doesn't increase spell power.
Rapid Regeneration: restores 50% of your maximum health over 6 seconds, with a 3-minute cooldown. After combat, use Life Tap first, then your racial in a safe spot. Movement, actions or incoming damage interrupt the heal.
Regeneration: +20% health regeneration, with 20% of normal regeneration continuing in combat. This October 15 change doesn't increase healing from Drain Life by 20%.
Beast Slaying: +5% to your damage against beasts. Trolls have no separate bonus to demon damage.
Trolls start with Daggers and Wands. Train Staves with Hanashi in Orgrimmar for 10. The route includes this at 12.
22-28, optional: the Incubus - Love Hurts[20] → Wish You Were Here[27] → The Binding (step). The scarf drops in Ashenvale from level 25-27 mobs. Same abilities, a different look. Whether the two chains are mutually exclusive hasn't been checked.
30: the Felhunter - Seeking Strahad[30] (Gan'rul Bloodeye, Orgrimmar, step) leads to Ratchet, where Strahad Farsan gives Tome of the Cabal[30]. Then three more quests through Undercity, Hillsbrad, Thousand Needles and the Wetlands. That's work for 30-33 and the next part of the guide.
Talents 10-30
4 builds with a talent tree and the order by level
I'd start with Affliction, DoTs, and the wand. That gets instant Corruption by 14, Nightfall by 26, and Siphon Life at 30. Drain Life Affliction and Demonology offer alternatives for solo play, with Destruction for groups.
What to take, where to learn it and what to collect - up to level 30
Advice for a Warlock: Enchanting + Tailoring, plus First Aid and Cooking. Enchanting means your own wand: Lesser Magic Wand at skill 10, Greater Magic Wand at 70. Tailoring uses the cloth that drops from humanoids anyway: your own cloth gear, bags (shards take up room) and items to disenchant for Enchanting. That's what Method, Warcraft Tavern and beta testers recommend. If a friend is an enchanter who'll make you a wand, take gathering professions for money: Herbalism and Skinning.
New in Forever: in the game files, enchanting supply vendors carry Lesser Magic Essence and Strange Dust - in Orgrimmar, Kithas . Stock is limited. Check on the spot whether they sell them on the beta. If they do, buy some every time you're in town.
The wand binds when equipped: a friend can make it and pass it to you - it only binds once you put it on.
For a Warlock: the tailoring banner gives Spirit - and in Forever, Spirit decides how much mana Life Tap gives (according to Warcraft Tavern). The first aid kit gives Stamina.
Sit by any campfire for a minute, even someone else's - you get a buff for an hour.
Cooking and First Aid
In Forever any cooked food gives +5% experience from kills for 15 minutes - always eat. A Warlock needs food more than water: it's food that restores the health Life Tap took.
In Forever, First Aid also makes healing potions. Bandages: Linen Bandage from linen, from skill 40 - Heavy Linen Bandage, then wool ones. Bandages don't cost mana.
What to collect
Linen Cloth at 1-20, Wool Cloth at 20-30 - from humanoids: for Tailoring and bandages, sell the extra at the auction house.
Meat goes into Cooking. Sell gray items to a vendor at every stop.
Money
A Warlock needs money early: training up to 20 is about 274, at 20-30 about 11 gold more if you learn everything (the essentials are about 9), plus about 2 gold for grimoires. What you can skip is noted in the trainer steps.
Don't buy Imp grimoires after 10: you won't need him solo anymore. The Voidwalker grimoires are what matter (see the "Warlock" section).
Sell gray items at every stop, and cloth and herbs at the Orgrimmar auction house. Aim for about 10 gold saved by level 30, then save up for riding: at 40 it will most likely cost about 100 gold, as in Classic.

What's new in Forever
Only what matters for this route
Based on beta data (build 1.60.1, as of October 16, 2026, beta cap 30): Wowhead Forever, Blizzard's Rogue and Warlock article (October 7), beta notes, Questie and RestedXP's Forever route. Things may change before the November 4 launch.
What stayed the samebeta data
The old Durotar, Orgrimmar and Barrens quests are all still there, with the same coordinates, and the experience needed per level hasn't changed.
Trolls could not be Warlocks in original Classic. Forever adds the combination. The starting quest Tainted Tablet[1] is new: Gornek sends you to Nartok . You then follow the Orgrimmar chains: Vile Familiars[4] for your Imp, The Binding[11] for your Voidwalker and The Binding[20] for your Succubus. The Felhunter chain, The Binding[30], comes after this 1-30 route.
No new flight paths for the Horde in 1-30. The hearthstone is once an hour.
The 20-30 class quests are the same as in Classic: the Succubus, the Incubus (added back in Classic Era) and The Orb of Soran'ruk[25].
Warlock in Foreverofficial
Banes: Bane of Agony is now a bane, so you can keep one bane and one curse on a target at the same time - for example, Bane of Agony and Curse of Recklessness. Rank 1 damage is 72 instead of 84.
Life Tap: (30 + Spirit) mana at rank 1 - Spirit is now a Warlock stat. Rank 1 Drain Soul - 85 damage (was 55), with a shard chance on every tick.
Curse of the Elements - from 20 (was 32), affects all magic damage: +4% damage and -30 to resistances. Create Firestone (28) is now a weapon enchant.
Demons scale with your stats, but since November 2 each point of your Stamina gives them 2 health instead of 7.5. Aggressive mode came back on October 1. Summoning players - only Ritual of Summoning: meeting stones don't summon.
Casters are weaker overall: wands don't scale with spell power (according to the September 24 beta notes), and low ranks get less from spell power (according to the October 1 beta notes). Testers complain that 6-10 is the hardest stretch, but once you have the Voidwalker and Drain Life, downtime almost disappears.
Rulesets to choose from: "Normal" - PvP only if you want it (/pvp). "PvP" - your flag turns on by itself in contested and enemy zones. "RP" - same as Normal.
Horde territory on the 1-20 route: Durotar and the Barrens. Contested: Stonetalon (from 18), then Hillsbrad, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles.
Battlegrounds: Warsong Gulch from 10, Arathi Basin from 20, the new Darkspear Islands (15 vs 15) from 30. On the beta, according to testers, only the level 30 battleground is open.
As a Warlock against melee, apply DoTs first, then use Fear. An Undead player's Will of the Forsaken now only removes fear, with no immunity afterward. Fear them again. Get somewhere safe before using Rapid Regeneration: enemy DoTs interrupt the channel. Put a Soulstone on yourself before entering a gank hotspot.
Experience and conveniencesofficial
Cooked food gives +5% experience from kills. There are camp buffs too - from a campfire, a tent and a sleeping bag.
Dungeon quests give 2-3 times the experience of normal ones.
There's no automatic dungeon finder - only the bulletin board, and meeting stones don't summon.
The Legacy system: account-wide bonuses unlock once your first character reaches 25.
Playing with friends who share a language? Pick your preferred language in the settings: you'll land in the same world layer as its speakers more often.

Tips and common mistakes
The hearthstone, dangerous mobs, what not to forget
1 - the Valley of Trials. Around 7.5 - Razor Hill: you can cover northern Durotar and Orgrimmar without using it. Around 12.9 - the Crossroads, until level 22.
Around 22.8 - Undercity: hearth there from Hillsbrad for the trainer and the zeppelin. Around 27.5 - Splintertree Post: from Zoram'gar back to the Foulweald. Around 29.7 - Freewind Post: from Orgrimmar back to Thousand Needles.
For short distances - a death run. Almost free until level 10, from 11 - "Resurrection Sickness" and -25% durability. A soulstone on yourself saves you the run back from the graveyard.
Stonetalon: Grimtotem casters, the elite Besseleth (without a partner - at 27), rare Venture Co. Elites at Windshear Crag, Sorrow Wing and Sister Riven.
Fear next to another pack: the feared mob brings its neighbors.
Life Tap down to zero mid-fight: use it while you're above half health and the demon holds the mob.
Shadow Bolt as your main attack: your mana runs out in two mobs. DoTs are cheaper.
Opening with Immolate before the Voidwalker has used Torment: the mob comes for you.
Putting off the Voidwalker: 10-12 becomes just as hard as 6-10.
The last mob wasn't finished with a Drain Soul channel: no shards for your demon and stones. And the opposite: a bag full of shards - no room for loot.
Health Funnel instead of a new demon: a minute of healing versus a 10-second summon.
