A Troll Hunter hits beasts 5% harder, and this route is mostly beasts: tigers, Barrens plainstriders, Stonetalon spiders. From there it's the Eastern Kingdoms, Ashenvale, and Thousand Needles up to 30. You'll find what to tame and where, when to train, which bows and arrows to buy, and how your pet holds mobs while you shoot.
Updated November 4, 2026 for Blizzard's November 2 changes: new Beast Mastery and Survival-lite orders (Pathfinding moved to row 3), a shared trap cooldown and stronger shots.

What to install from CurseForge for Forever: the useful and the fun
Maps inside dungeons:Dungeon Crawler Forever shows floors, passages, bosses and quests. Open it with /dm. Its data changes with the beta: double-check quest requirements in game. More conveniences, screenshots and highlight commands - in the useful addons guide.
How to install. In the CurseForge app, add the game with the “+” button and point it to your Forever client folder - a Forever tab appears. Manually on the beta: the _classic_beta_\Interface\AddOns folder. Addons for regular Classic won't work - you need a file marked Forever (1.60.1). ★ - our pick.
Already in the game - no addon needed: coordinates on the map and minimap (turn them on in the settings), quest objectives on the map (the “Enhanced” template at first login, or the quest objectives option), a damage meter, a swing timer, the Cooldown Manager, one combined bag, an equipment manager and a modern auction house. Not in the game: a threat meter, markers for quests you haven't picked up yet, and a /way command.
Quests and map
★ Questie - who gives quests and where the objectives are, on the map and minimap. It still lacks some of the new Forever quests.
★ TomTom - an arrow to a point. The coordinates on this site copy as a /way command for it.
★ Leatrix Maps - reveals unexplored parts of the map, shows dungeon entrances, and the map can be enlarged.
Forever Quest Tint - tints the text of new Forever quests, so you see at a glance what's new.
Conveniences
★ Leatrix Plus - auto quest turn-in, junk selling, repairs, fast loot and dozens of small things. There's a separate version for Forever.
★ Baganator - proper bags and bank: the built-in combined bag can't be moved. A similar one - Bagnon.
★ Auctionator - posts auctions quickly, remembers prices and shows them in tooltips.
★ Platynator - draws neat bars above mobs and marks the ones you need for a quest. Very handy while leveling.
Professions
★ GatherLite - herbs, ore and fish on the map: it already ships with more than 26 thousand points made for Forever.
GatherMate2 - the same, but it only remembers points as you gather them yourself.
For fun: voiceover and dialogue
★ Spoken - English voiceover for quests, books and zones. On the Forever forums it gets the most praise: “like an audiobook”. More in the addons guide.
★ Immersion - movie-style NPC dialogue instead of the usual quest window.
Optional
Details! or ThreatClassic2 - threat in dungeons: the built-in damage meter doesn't show it.
Easy Experience Bar - experience per hour and how much is left to the next level.
Dungeon Journal - dungeon quests and loot: Forever has no dungeon journal of its own.
WeakAuras has no Forever version; use the fork ForeverAuras instead (it can do what the built-in Cooldown Manager sees).
For mail, instead of Postal try Forever Mail: recipient picker, mail history and attachment lists. More in the general addons guide.
Zygor and ElvUI aren't installed through CurseForge.
Combat “helpers” that do calculations are banned in Forever, as in the modern game: addons may display, but not calculate.
For Hunters
Hunter's Field Guide - a bestiary for Hunters: all 631 tameable beasts in Forever across 18 families, the new foxes included, with a map of where they spawn (dungeons too) and which beast teaches which skills and ranks. A beast goes into the guide when you target it, and Beast Lore unlocks its skills. By default it runs in Immersive mode: beasts and their skills unlock only once you've found them. If you want everything at once, switch to Reveal all in the settings and it becomes a full reference. You can search by beast, zone and skill, and you get world map pins and tooltips when you hover a beast. Open it with /fg, settings - /fg config. Version 0.5.8 for Forever 1.60.1 from October 13, almost 40 thousand downloads. Available in English, German, French, Spanish and Korean.
Hunter Pet Atlas - a reference of Forever's tameable beasts: models, spawn points on the map, alerts for rare beasts and a reminder to feed your pet. Open it with /hpa. Forever 1.60.1 version from October 6, about 700 downloads. English and Spanish only.
Feed Pet: Forever - an icon when your pet is unhappy and one-click feeding from your bags. A separate alert if you have no food it eats. Settings - /fpf. Made for Forever 1.60.1, no dependencies.
Scope - an arrow counter that warns you when you're running low. One click sets a built-in waypoint to the nearest ammo vendor. Forever 1.60.1 version from October 13.
Hunter's Field Guide and Hunter Pet Atlas overlap: both show where beasts live. Hunter's Field Guide goes deeper into skills and ranks, while Hunter Pet Atlas warns you about a rare beast nearby, so one of them is usually enough. Hunter Pet Atlas, Feed Pet: Forever and Scope are young addons with hundreds of downloads and few reviews so far: install them if you like.

How not to lose hours while leveling
Small things about your route, mobs, mana, and speed that add up to hours over a whole leveling run
Route
Running around eats roughly a third of all leveling time. So grab quests in bundles and finish them in one trip, with at least two or three objectives close together on the map.
Don't be afraid to drop a quest with a rare drop, an NPC who isn't there, or an objective on the far side of the zone. Leave escorts for the end of the loop, since they usually run through the same mobs the nearby quests need.
Heading to the next spot with full mana and health? Kill mobs on the way. You regenerate anyway, and a couple of extra mobs on every run adds up to hours by the end.
While a mob is dying, start walking to the next one. Finish off the last few percent with auto attacks or a wand instead of a big spell.
Which mobs
Green mobs die fast and are barely a threat, but in Forever they give 4-20% less XP than in Classic. Blizzard says that's intended. Look at XP per hour, not at the color.
Yellow and green mobs are a fine pick. Orange and red ones are almost always worse. There's no XP penalty, but you miss more, fights drag on, and your mana and health melt faster. The one exception is elite group quests, if you've got a group.
Supplies and timing
Always carry food and water, or you'll get stuck in the middle of a mob camp with empty bars. Addons that auto-sell gray items and auto-repair at a vendor save time too.
Use your Hearthstone and long-cooldown abilities on cooldown, not "for later." The perfect moment might never come.
Spirit is useful for everyone while leveling, because you spend less time sitting between fights. Got an item with Spirit that's a bit weaker on other stats? I'd keep it.
Build and trainer
Leveling talents aren't level 60 talents. While leveling, you're your own tank and healer, so defensive and recovery talents beat an extra percent of damage.
The Legacy perk "Thrill of Adventure" gives back up to 5% health and mana after you kill a mob that gives XP.
New ranks show up every 2 levels, but not every trip to the trainer is worth it. Check what you'll actually get, and don't fly to a capital for a rank that barely changes anything.
People
Buff someone who's passing by, and they'll probably return the favor.
Elite quests go faster with a partner, and on PvP servers it's a lot safer too.
DoTs
The free addon Does It Die shows whether the DoTs already ticking will finish the mob. If they will, a skull shows up on the target's portrait and you can move on to the next one. It's made for Forever, and the settings are under /did.
Speed
From 20, keep Aspect of the Cheetah up while traveling and swap to Aspect of the Hawk for fights.
✦
Leveling talents
Pick a build for 10-30 and follow its point order
You start spending talents at 10 and have 21 points by 30. I'd choose Beast Mastery for a first solo route. Your pet tanks and supplies a large share of the damage while you shoot. Method, Warcraft Tavern, and wowforeverbuilds recommend it for the beta too. Reset with Ormak Grimshot in Orgrimmar or Holt Thunderhorn in Thunder Bluff. At launch, a reset costs 1 gold or more. That's enough to hurt your early training budget, so choose a point order before you spend it. Hover a talent for its tooltip. The calculator button opens the same build and point order.
Beast Mastery: Pet Up Frontmain21 / 0 / 0Let your pet tank while you shoot. It supplies about half your damage and inherits some of your stats in Forever. At 25 you get the new talent Summon Hawk.
At 25-30:Summon Hawk. The hawk dives at the target and attacks for 18 seconds, and you can keep two up. Summon Hawk and Arcane Shot share a cooldown. Then Ferocity 3/5 at 26-28 gives your pet and hawks more crit. After 30, finish it to 5/5: it opens Frenzy at 35.
Swaps:Improved Revive Pet at 29-30 instead of Pathfinding if your pet dies often. This is for careful players and Hardcore. Don't run much? Put 29-30 into Ferocity 5/5. Often eating between fights? Then Spirit Bond (rank 1 gives 1% health to you and your pet every 10 seconds). Short on mana - Bestial Discipline.
A dead pet takes half your damage with it. Watch its health and use Mend Pet while there's still time to finish the pull.
Marksmanship: With a Petmarksman0 / 21 / 0More of the damage comes from you: crit, attack power from Intellect and a strong shot after every kill. Recommended by Warcraft Tavern and wow.gg.
Start with Lethal Attacks for +5% crit. Your pet inherits your full crit chance in Forever, so it benefits too. New talent Careful Aim turns Intellect into attack power. With Rapid Killing, a kill makes your next shot hit 20% harder, giving the next pull a useful head start. Take Efficiency to ease the mana drain. You'll notice it in Marksmanship.
Have a regular tank? From 20, after 11 points in the tree, Lone Wolf gives +20% damage with no pet out. I'd leave this to a steady group. Solo pulls are rough without a pet, and beta feedback on the talent has been poor.
Your pet hits less hard than a BM pet, and you'll drink more often. That's the cost of putting more damage into your shots.
Survival Lite: Trackercareful8 / 0 / 13A sturdier Hunter and pet, at the cost of damage. I'd consider it for Hardcore, weak gear, or quests against higher-level mobs.
Pros:Improved Tracking adds +5% damage of all kinds against the creature type you track, and against beasts, together with the Troll racial (Beast Slaying), it's +10%. Endurance Training makes your pet 15% tougher, and Survivalist adds 10% health. At 22-23, Deflection 2/5 adds parry chance: Pathfinding moved to row 3 on November 2 and no longer fits here. At 30, Deterrence: 10 seconds of dodge and parry, your "don't die" button.
Keep tracking matched to your targets. Use Track Beasts for beasts, Track Humanoids for humanoids, and Track Undead for undead from 18. The damage bonus depends on it.
You'll kill noticeably slower than BM. There's no room for Unleashed Fury or the hawks in this build.
Survival: Meleefor later0 / 0 / 21Forever's melee Hunter uses a two-hander. It's weaker than BM through 30, so I'd pick it if you want to stick with Survival at 60.
Until Aspect of the Beast at 30, this needs a good two-hander and still feels short on buttons in beta feedback. Shooting tends to be stronger. Compare weapon DPS using the list in Hunter before committing to melee.
When to press them, and how a Troll compares to an Orc here
If you ask me, Hunters get the most out of the Troll racials. Nearly everything you fight before 30 is a beast, so the bonus works in almost every fight.
Using them on the route
Beast Slaying gives +5% damage against beasts. The tigers on the Echo Isles (step), Stonetalon's spiders, Ashenvale's bears and deer (step), and the spiders at Gloomrise (step) all count.
Berserking gives +10% attack speed for 15 seconds on a 3-minute cooldown. Use it together with Rapid Fire on elites, bad pulls, and quest bosses (step). The route calls for that at the boss by the Hillsbrad mine (step), the guards in Ashenvale (step), and the marauder in the southern Barrens (step).
Rapid Regeneration restores half your health over 6 seconds between fights, 3-minute cooldown. It only heals you, so your pet still needs Mend Pet.
Regeneration speeds up your out-of-combat health regen by 20%, and a fifth of your regen keeps going in combat.
Forever dropped the Troll bow bonus. Compare bows, guns, and crossbows by DPS alone.
Troll or Orc?
Orcs got Command back in October, which makes Hunter pets hit 5% harder. They also have Blood Fury (+10% attack power for 15 seconds, 2-minute cooldown) and Hardiness, which makes stuns 20% shorter.
Your pet does up to half your damage, so Command works in every fight. Then again, the Troll beast bonus works in almost every fight on this route too. I'd call it a draw and pick the one you like the look of.

Valley of Trials
The Orc and Troll starting valley · the Den and the Burning Blade Coven

Collect the Den quests together and clear a loop before turning them in. Allow about 40 minutes to reach 5-6. You won't have a pet until 10. Start each fight at range, then use Raptor Strike if the mob makes it into melee.
The valley Hunter trainer Jen'shan only teaches up to level 6. After that - Thotar in Razor Hill and the Orgrimmar trainers.
¤ Shopping and useful stuff
Duokna : Rough Arrow, a stack of 200 for about 10. Buy 3-4 stacks: every shot consumes an arrow, and an empty quiver means no shooting. Also sells Skinning Knife≈ 10 for Skinning.
Don't sell boar meat: you'll learn Cooking in Razor Hill (step), and food in Forever gives +5% experience. Save the hides from beasts - for Leatherworking or the auction house. The rest of the gray stuff goes to a vendor.
➶ Level faster
Until level 10 death costs almost nothing: no "Resurrection Sickness", you just lose a little durability. Getting from the Coven back to the Den is faster with a death run.
The new Troll racial Rapid Regeneration restores half your health over 6 seconds if you stand still and take no actions (3-minute cooldown). Use it instead of food between fights.

Hunters wear leather: just like in Classic, you most likely won't wear mail until 40. Track Beasts shows beasts on the minimap - handy when you go looking for a pet.
Aspect of the Monkey - +8% dodge: keep it on while you have no pet. Serpent Sting in Forever is weaker than in Classic (it went up by about 20% on November 2) - only put it on a mob that will live longer than 8-10 seconds.
The cave is cramped and the mobs stand close together: pull them one at a time from the edge so two don't come at once. Back to the Den with a death run: before level 10 it costs almost nothing.

Don't sell the cloth from centaurs - it's for bandages: you'll learn First Aid in Razor Hill (step).

Don't forget in this section
Training the Beast[10] is turned in at Orgrimmar - keep it until 12 (step). The reward is Beast Training: without it you can't teach your pet new skills.
Halikor is a level 12 elite lizard on Thunder Ridge: it starts Halikor's Hoof[12]. Only if you can handle it (step).
Shoja'my - the stable: you can leave a pet there and pick it up later (2 slots).

The boar, crab and scorpid for the quests are a few minutes' walk from Razor Hill, and the three tamings give 2520 experience - about a third of level 10. Do them back to back, don't put them off.
With a pet the rhythm changes: send it at the mob, wait 1-2 seconds and only then shoot - otherwise the mob runs at you.
Taming takes 20 seconds, and the whole time you have no armor: start away from other mobs and don't hit the beast - damage breaks the taming. The scorpid from Taming the Beast[10] is still with you - dismiss it (right-click the portrait): you can't tame a new one while you have a pet. Tame your own pet - a beast of your level or lower (Forever doesn't allow higher). The easiest is Venomtail Scorpid: level 9-10 scorpids all over northern Durotar , sturdy, and according to Petopia they know Claw (rank 2). A raptor, Bloodtalon Scythemaw (8-10) by Thunder Ridge , gives more damage. Tamed it? Feed it right away (Feed Pet): a new pet is unhappy and hits softer.
Want a fast cat right away? Durotar Tiger (7-8) on the southeastern shore , a 15-minute detour. The tiger knows Cower - turn it off on the pet bar (right-click the icon): it drops threat, and the mob runs at you. According to testers' measurements, pets with a fast attack do more damage on the beta, but Blizzard hasn't confirmed it. The best zone for 12-20 · the Razormane and the pirates near Ratchet

Want a fast pet? Tame the patriarch: according to Petopia it attacks every 1.3 seconds, and according to testers' measurements such pets do more damage on the beta (Blizzard hasn't confirmed it). The patriarch knows Cower - turn it off on the pet bar: it drops threat, and the mob runs at you. There are only a few patriarchs - if you can't find one, Ornery Plainstrider will do (16-17, all over the Barrens ): a tallstrider, which according to Petopia also attacks every 1.3 seconds; it eats cheese, mushrooms and fruit - Innkeeper Boorand Plainswind sells fruit. In the east there's also Savannah Matriarch (17-18), but she's slower - every 1.7 seconds. Your old pet is already in the stable (step); if you didn't stable it, you'll have to abandon it. A new pet is unhappy and barely knows you: feed it and fight - loyalty grows from fights and food.

So first a short flight to Orgrimmar, then finish the Barrens up to 21: Camp Taurajo, the Field of Giants, the elite Chol'aruk (only with a partner). Keep your hearthstone at the Crossroads.

Tusks, heads and adornments only drop while you have the quests - take everything at Taurajo and the Crossroads before you go hunting.
¤ Shopping and useful stuff
Orgrimmar, Jin'sora : Heavy Recurve Bow≈ 63 (from 20) - 9.2 DPS (Fine Longbow - 7.4). Until 26 your bow is more than half your damage, so buy it. Went to Wailing Caverns and got Venomstrike (12.1)? Don't buy it.
The Crossroads, Zargh : Mutton Chop - 10-15 of them (Borstan sells the same meat in Orgrimmar). Cats, wolves and scorpids need meat, and Undercity and the Sepulcher don't have any - only mushrooms and bread. Meat on the way: Innkeeper Jayka at Sun Rock Retreat, Kaga Mistrunner in Thunder Bluff (at 22), Innkeeper Shay in Tarren Mill.
Arrows for the loop through the southern Barrens and Stonetalon - Sharp Arrow, 5-6 stacks: Jin'sora in Orgrimmar or Barg at the Crossroads. Further on they're sold by Borand at Sun Rock Retreat and Kuna Thunderhorn in Thunder Bluff.
◈ Loot along the way

Aspect of the Cheetah at 20 is your biggest speed boost until the mount at 40: +30% run speed, turn it on for every run (Taurajo → Thunder Bluff, Undercity → the Sepulcher, the Hillsbrad Fields). Getting hit dazes you - a 4-second slow: see an enemy, switch to Aspect of the Hawk right away.
The Barrens rares Humar the Pridelord (level 23 elite) and Takk the Leaper drop set pieces: two of them give +5% run speed in the Barrens and Stonetalon. If you see one, don't walk past.
⚔︎ PvP
The Alliance needs Chol'aruk too - they have their own version of the quest. Someone hanging around his camp isn't necessarily a partner. On PvP realms in the Barrens it's the Alliance players who are flagged, not you.
From 20 you have Freezing Trap: if an Alliance Rogue comes out of stealth and hits you in the back - Freezing Trap at your feet. Once he's frozen, run 20 yards away and only then send your pet and shoot: any damage breaks the freeze. Arathi Basin opens at 20 only at launch: on the beta, according to testers, only the new battleground from 30 works.
Training at 18 and 20 costs about 245. You can skip Distracting Shot; Track Undead too, unless you have the Improved Tracking talent (it's in both Survival builds): with it, that's +5% damage against undead. In Forever Multi-Shot and Aimed Shot share a 6-second cooldown: on a single target press Aimed Shot (once the mob is on your pet), on two or three - Multi-Shot. According to one tester, Aimed Shot doesn't interrupt Auto Shot; if you notice it does, press it right after a shot. Freezing Trap can be set in combat, but only at your feet: a mob that reaches you freezes for 10 seconds, and damage breaks the freeze.
Wrongly Blamed, Justly Corrected[23] has a level 23 elite pillager and level 22-23 Alliance soldiers: solo at 20-21 you have almost no chance. A Hunter doesn't need the rewards: Encroacher's Claim (a two-handed axe) is a weapon for melee Survival, the rest are for selling.

According to beta data, dungeon quests in Forever give 2-3 times the experience of normal ones - the keep's three quests are worth it. After that it all depends on a group for the Ruins of Lordaeron: if you have one, fly from the Sepulcher to Undercity (step). If not, go from the Sepulcher straight to Hillsbrad (step), and if you did the keep, turn in The Book of Ur[26] in Undercity at 26 (step).

A five-player dungeon with six bosses you can fight in any order. The quests are level 21-22, and Forever dungeon quests give 2-3 times the XP of normal quests, making this one of the best stops in the 20-30 range. Your main Hunter reward is Spare Part Bindings from Light's Justice[22]: leather bracers with +3 Agility and +3 Stamina. No group for the Ruins? Head straight from the Sepulcher to Hillsbrad (step) and turn in The Book of Ur[26] in Undercity at 26 (step).
The Alliance has quests in the Ruins of Lordaeron too - their groups run across all of Tirisfal to the gates of Undercity. This is your land with guards nearby: on PvP realms it's their flag that's up, not yours.
A two-handed axe with 20.5 DPS, suited to melee Survival (train Two-Handed Axes with Hanashi or Sayoc in Orgrimmar). Other builds should vendor it; the alternative reward is a Spirit staff.
Take Edward's Knife: a dagger with +2 Agility and +2 Stamina, useful as a stat stick until you get a dungeon staff.

Tarren Mill is the Forsaken stronghold in Hillsbrad: this is where you turn in Journey to Tarren Mill[18], which you've been carrying since level 22. For a Hunter there's also the best quest bow until 29: Bow of Plunder from Dangerous![28] - a hunt for four Hillsbrad residents. Don't go into Southshore (Alliance) - there are guards.
Dangerous![28]: three targets are in the Hillsbrad Fields, the fourth, Miner Hackett (level 29), is in the mine south of the fields (step).

Leveling as Beast Mastery (our main build)? Take Summon Hawk at 25: a hawk dives at your target for 18 seconds. Summon Hawk and Arcane Shot share a cooldown. The order: a hawk, a second one 6 seconds later, Arcane Shot on the next cooldown, then a hawk again - that way you have two hawks in the fight the whole time. Went Marksmanship or Survival? No hawk, press Arcane Shot on cooldown as before.
⚔︎ PvP
Tarren Mill versus Southshore is the classic faction war. In Forever the Alliance quests here from 21 to 30 and goes to the town hall in the Hillsbrad Fields - the same place where you kill the farmers and look for the Dangerous![28] targets. An Alliance Rogue waits until you're locked in a fight with a footman: Freezing Trap at your feet. Once he's frozen, run 20 yards away and only then send your pet and shoot: any damage breaks the freeze.
Beta chases often end at a zone border, where the other player can disappear into a different layer. That's another copy of the zone. A border may help you escape, but chasing someone across it can waste your time.
According to Petopia, Gray Bear knows Claw (rank 3), and Giant Moss Creeper knows Bite (rank 4; your pet has to be level 24). With your own pet in the stable (step), tame one of these beasts, fight with it until the chat says "You've learned…", then abandon it. On the way - Elder Gray Bear (25-26) : a bear is the sturdiest pet and hits three targets at once (in a dungeon keep it on one). Exactly where Deathstalker Masoj stands is still being pinned down in the beta data - follow the quest marker. South of the vantage point, in Dun Garok itself , there are level 28-30 dwarves, and the riflemen shoot from range: approach the vantage point from the north and don't go down.
How to do this quest - Scout Support
According to a tester's comment, the quest only opens after the second “Battle of Hillsbrad” (level 25): if High Executor Darthalia doesn't offer it, turn that one in and ask again. Deathstalker Masoj himself stands alone on a hill north of Nethander Stead .
The peaks, according to testers' comments: on the hills above Dun Garok , on the plateau above Durnholde , and above the yeti cave , not inside it. Level 33 mountain lions roam by the third one - approach carefully.
Drops from:Vial of Innocent Blood - Syndicate Shadow Mage
The Syndicate mobs are packed closely together. Shoot one from the edge to pull it away. Their shadow Mages cast from range, and you have no interrupt: shoot, then break line of sight around a corner to bring them to your pet. Pulled two? Drop Freezing Trap at your feet for the second one.
How to do this quest - The Rescue
The keys aren't interchangeable, the pairs are “jailor → prisoner”: Jailor Eston → Drull, Jailor Marlgen → Tog'thar. The jailors spawn near the prisoners, sometimes on the road to them.

Furbolgs come in twos and threes. Let your pet tank one, hit the pack with Multi-Shot, then drop Freezing Trap at your feet for a mob that reaches you. Stop using Multi-Shot until the others are dead, or you'll break the trap. In trouble, use Rapid Fire and Berserking. Start at full health and mana.

Feign Death in PvP: your opponent loses you as a target, and the spell he's casting at you fails (as in Classic. Not tested on the beta). Then Freezing Trap at your feet, run off while he's frozen and shoot from range again.
Feign Death: 30-second cooldown, 80 mana. Mobs lose you and go for your pet; sometimes the feign doesn't work (it happened in Classic) - then Freezing Trap at your feet right away. A really bad pull? Feign and dismiss your pet (Dismiss Pet): the mobs walk away, catch your breath and call it back. Lie there for 6 minutes and you die for real. Aspect of the Beast - +50 melee attack power: Survival needs it, for the rest it's optional.
On the beta a pet sometimes "forgets" a skill after the stable or logging out: check the pet bar. Don't reset all its skills at the pet trainer - according to testers, the fast attack goes with them.
Short on money - don't buy it: Cliffrunner's Aim is only 2 DPS behind, and new quest bows are waiting at 30+.

What's next (30+): the rest of Thousand Needles, Ordanus[29] → The Den[29] in Stonetalon, the Shimmering Flats, Hillsbrad and Arathi, "Excavation Site: Wetlands" and the Scarlet Monastery. The next Horde Hunter class quest is The Hunter's Charm, only at 50. That will be the next part of the guide.

Dungeons: what to pick up in advance
Quests offered far from the entrance, and how a Hunter plays in a group
In Forever, experience from dungeon mobs is lower, while dungeon quests give 2-3 times the experience of normal ones (even after the beta bonus was cut in half). Going in without quests makes little sense - collect them in advance, but not earlier than needed: quests "for later" clog your log. A Hunter in a group brings damage and control: the tank leads, you don't pull, and your pet hits the same target as the tank.
Hunter in a group: the short version
Your pet, raid marks, traps and threat
Turn off your pet's Growl and set it to Defensive or Passive: let it attack only on your command. A bear hits three targets at once and breaks other players' crowd control - in a dungeon keep it on one target.
Hit the marked target: Skull first, Cross second. Your Hunter's Mark goes on the same target. Pulling is the tank's job. If you've agreed that you pull, shoot the marked mob and get behind the tank right away.
In Forever traps are set in combat, but only at your feet, 30-second cooldown: from 20 - Freezing Trap. Step aside, set it and bring the "second" mob to you. Don't drop a trap under the pack on the tank.
Multi-Shot (18) - only on packs with nothing sheeped or frozen.
Pulled a mob off the tank? Don't run: your pet will take it, and you stop shooting for a couple of seconds. From 20 - Disengage (lowers your threat, twice as strong in Forever), from 30 - Feign Death.
A mob runs at the healer and the tank is busy: Distracting Shot (12) pulls it onto you - your pet will meet it.
Etiquette: a Hunter rolls Need on bows, leather and staves with Agility. Staves with only Intellect and Spirit are for Mages and Priests.

13-18 · Orgrimmar, Cleft of Shadow · at 16 on this route
The run itself - at 23-24. Slavering Worg roams inside - a wolf that testers tame for its fast attack. Kill the worgen casters first: Hunters have no interrupts.
What to learn, what to tame and what to shoot with - up to level 30
Pets inherit some of your attack power (about 10% in beta data) and your full crit chance. Other players' buffs don't work on them anymore, and you can tame beasts at your level or lower. Learn Aimed Shot from the trainer at 20 (it used to be a talent): a 2-second cast and 6-second cooldown, and on November 2 its bonus damage went up by about 110%. Your Multi-Shot has a 0.5-second cast and shares that cooldown. You can lay traps in combat, at your feet, every 30 seconds. Since November 2, all traps share one 30-second cooldown, so you can no longer drop a fire trap and a frost trap back to back. Auto Shot needs 0.5 seconds standing still, so pause long enough to fire between moves. Damage from Arcane Shot is up 10-54%, with rank 1 gaining most, and on November 2 it went up by another 30% or so. Hunter's Mark is 30% stronger. Rank 1 Serpent Sting did half its old damage, and on November 2 it went up by about 20%. You'll still consume arrows, get +10% ranged attack speed from a quiver, and need 8 yards of space to shoot.
Before 10, start at max range with Arcane Shot. Add Serpent Sting if the fight will last, slow with Concussive Shot, and fall back. Use Raptor Strike if the mob reaches you. Once you have a pet at 10, send it first and wait 1-2 seconds for threat before shooting. Keep Aspect of the Hawk up in combat and use Aspect of the Cheetah for travel from 20. Mana running low? Save Serpent Sting and Hunter's Mark for mobs that survive 3-4 shots. If you pull a second mob, leave the first on your pet. Slow the add with Concussive Shot, use Scare Beast on a beast, or drop Freezing Trap at your feet from 20. If it's already on you, Wing Clip buys room to move 8 yards away.
Horde Hunter trainers: Jen'shan in the Valley of Trials (only up to level 6), Thotar in Razor Hill, Ormak Grimshot in Orgrimmar, Holt Thunderhorn in Thunder Bluff. The Barrens, Stonetalon, Undercity, Silverpine, Hillsbrad, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles have no Hunter trainers, and the only pet trainers on the route are in Razor Hill (Harruk ), Orgrimmar (Xao'tsu ) and Thunder Bluff (Hesuwa Thunderhorn ). The route therefore includes these training stops: Razor Hill at 8 and 10, Orgrimmar at 12, 16 and 20, then Thunder Bluff and Orgrimmar. All training for 1-30 costs about 18 gold according to Wowhead. Without the optional stuff (the eyes, Distracting Shot, Scorpid Sting and tracking if you don't have the Improved Tracking talent) - about 12.
Taming takes 20 seconds, and you have no armor during the cast. Start with full mana and enough space around you. Damage to the beast breaks the tame.
Since September 24, Forever lets you tame beasts at your level or lower. Pets gain experience from kills and can't outlevel you. A pet that's behind catches up faster, but I'd avoid taming one 3-4 levels lower just to be safe. It'll miss too much.
You can't tame a new beast while you have a pet: leave the old one in the stable while you're at a stable master - out in the field you'll have to abandon it. The stable has 2 slots, the third pet is with you. A stable slot costs money (as in Classic. The beta price is still being checked). Stable masters on the way: Shoja'my (Razor Hill), Xon'cha (Orgrimmar), Sikwa (the Crossroads), Reggifuz (Ratchet), Kelsuwa (Camp Taurajo), Gereck (Sun Rock Retreat), Bulrug (Thunder Bluff), Anya Maulray (Undercity), Sarah Goode (the Sepulcher), Theodore Mont Claire (Tarren Mill), Qeeju (Splintertree Post), Awenasa (Freewind Post).
Track Beasts shows beasts on the minimap - that makes rare ones easier to find.
Food and happiness
What they eat and how often to feed them
Feed a new pet straight away with Feed Pet and suitable food from your bags. It'll arrive unhappy, and you can't feed it during combat.
A happy pet deals 125% damage, a content one 100%, and an unhappy one 75%, as in Classic. In the beta, happiness barely falls over time but drops on death. That behavior might change at launch.
What they eat (according to beta guides): cats, wolves, raptors, scorpids and spiders - meat (cats fish too). Bears and boars - anything. Wind serpents - bread, cheese and fish. Turtles and crabs - fish, bread, fruit and mushrooms. Tallstriders - cheese, mushrooms and fruit. Hyenas - meat and fruit. Meat is sold by Innkeeper Grosk and Grimtak in Razor Hill and Zargh at the Crossroads: Tough Jerky, from 5 - Haunch of Meat, from 15 - Mutton Chop, from 25 - Wild Hog Shank.
At 20-30, meat along the route is sold by Borstan (Orgrimmar), Innkeeper Jayka (Sun Rock Retreat), Kaga Mistrunner (Thunder Bluff), Innkeeper Shay (Tarren Mill), Innkeeper Kaylisk (Splintertree Post) and Turhaw (Freewind Post). The innkeepers in Undercity and the Sepulcher have mushrooms and bread, no meat: feed a cat, wolf or scorpid with meat from Thunder Bluff.
Will your pet eat raw meat you've looted? That hasn't been tested in the beta. Try Feed Pet on a piece and read the tooltip before buying more food.
If your pet dies, finish the fight before using Revive Pet. The cast takes 10 seconds and all your mana. Feed it once it's back.
Pet skills
How to teach them and what to use
Pet families have Claw or Bite (cats have both), Growl and a family ability: boars get Charge, scorpids Scorpid Poison, cats Prowl (from 30), wolves Furious Howl and wind serpents Lightning Breath. New in Forever: raptors get a bleed, bears hit three targets, spiders web, crabs slow, crocolisks reduce the target's healing by 25%, hyenas slow and bleed, and tallstriders reduce the target's armor.
To learn higher ranks of Claw and Bite, tame a beast that knows the rank and fight alongside it until chat confirms you've learned it. Stable your usual pet first, then bring it back and spend training points through Beast Training. Blizzard changed some beast ranks on October 1, so old Classic tables may be wrong. Check with Beast Lore from 24.
When solo, leave Growl on autocast and turn Cower off by right-clicking it on the pet bar. Dropping your pet's threat sends the mob straight to you. In a group, turn Growl off so the tank keeps aggro.
Each stack holds 200 arrows, enough for roughly 25-35 mobs. Pack 4-5 stacks for a long loop. In the Barrens, you'll restock at the Crossroads or Ratchet.
A quiver takes a bag slot but gives +10% ranged attack speed. The first one, Light Quiver (6 slots), you have from the start - don't sell it. Small Quiver (8 slots) and Medium Quiver (10, from 10) give the same speed, just more room. Heavy Quiver (14, +12%) is from 30, but nobody sells it on the route before 30: you'll buy it on your next visit to Undercity (Benijah Fenner ). Leatherworkers make Light Leather Quiver.
Only Ansekhwa in Thunder Bluff teaches Guns. Archibald in Undercity teaches Crossbows. Troll Hunters start with Bows, and the strong ranged weapons on this route are bows, so you can skip Guns and Crossbows.
Wear leather with Agility. Mail probably stays locked until 40, as in Classic.
Trolls no longer have Bow Specialization in Forever: racial weapon skill bonuses have been removed for every race.
How not to die
Combos that save you
Give your pet time to build threat before shooting. Keeping the mob on it is what makes these pulls safe.
Use Mend Pet when your pet drops below half health and the mob still has a fight left in it.
Mob in your face? Use Wing Clip and move back. Drop Immolation Trap at your feet from 16, or Freezing Trap from 20 for a 10-second freeze that breaks on damage. You can also lower your threat with Disengage to send the mob back to your pet.
Bad pull? From 26, stack Rapid Fire and Berserking. From 30, use Feign Death: mobs drop you as a target while your pet keeps fighting.
Between fights, use Rapid Regeneration: half your health over 6 seconds if you stand still and take no actions. Bandage while it's on cooldown.
Use Aspect of the Cheetah on the road. A hit while it's active can daze you for a 4-second slow, so switch to Aspect of the Hawk before an enemy reaches you.
First Aid and professions
First Aid is a must: bandages heal without mana, and a Hunter needs mana for shots and Mend Pet. Rawrk in Razor Hill, Arnok in Orgrimmar. In Forever First Aid also makes healing potions.
A Hunter's professions are Skinning and Leatherworking: you kill beasts anyway, and a leatherworker makes gear with Agility. Details in the "Professions" section.
After that, Horde Hunters have no class quests until 50 (according to Wowhead and QuestieDB). Skills for 20-30 come straight from the trainer: Orgrimmar at 20 (step) and 26 (step), Thunder Bluff at 22 (step), 28 (step) and 30 (step).
Talents 10-30
4 builds with a talent tree and the order by level
The main one is "Beast Mastery: Pet Up Front": Unleashed Fury at 20-24, Summon Hawk at 25. There's also "Marksmanship: With a Pet", "Survival Lite: Tracker" for careful players and "Survival: Melee" for later.
All builds, the tree and the point order are in the "Leveling talents" section.

Professions and camping
What to take, where to learn it and what to collect - up to level 30
Advice for a Hunter: Skinning + Leatherworking, plus First Aid and Cooking. You kill beasts anyway, so the hides come by themselves, and a leatherworker makes the new Forever Brawler's gear with Agility and Light Leather Quiver. The second option is Mining + Engineering: your own guns and scopes, but the best ranged weapons on the route are bows. Skinning + Mining makes the most money for the mount at 40.
Apprentice - up to 75. Journeyman - from skill 50, up to 150. Expert - from skill 125, up to 225.
Brawler's leatherbeta data
West of the Crossroads there's a new Durotar Supply and Logistics camp. Fill the crates you find in the world (from level 10) with hides, ore or herbs and turn them in for a currency.
Pawani in the same camp sells Brawler's patterns for 30 of that currency each: belt (12), gloves (15), boots (17), hood (20: +8 Agility, +10 Stamina), tunic (22), leggings (25). Method calls the hood one of the best leveling items in the beta.
Camp buffs last an hour: the Skinning camp stool (+2% crit - your pet too, since it takes your crit), the Leatherworking tent (rested bonus), the Mining lodestone (+attack power), the First Aid kit (+Stamina). They don't stack with similar class buffs. The exact item names in the client may differ.
Sit by any campfire for a minute, even someone else's - you get a buff for an hour.
Cooking and First Aid
In Forever any cooked food gives +5% experience from kills for 15 minutes - always eat. Split the meat from mobs: some for Cooking, some for pet food.
In Forever, First Aid also makes healing potions. Bandages: Linen Bandage from linen, from skill 40 - Heavy Linen Bandage, then wool ones.
20-30: Medium Hide and Medium Leather - for a leatherworker's Brawler's gear, the rest to the auction house.
Money
Hunter training for 1-30 costs about 18 gold, plus bows and arrows: a Hunter needs money more than most. Sell gray items at every stop, and hides and cloth at the Orgrimmar auction house.
Don't buy a bow from a vendor if a quest one is 1-2 levels away (the list is in the "Hunter" section).
Aim for about 10 gold saved by level 30: riding at 40 will most likely cost about 100 gold, as in Classic.

What's new in Forever
Only what matters for this route
Based on beta data (build 1.60.1, as of October 13, 2026, beta cap 30): Wowhead Forever, Blizzard's Hunter article (September 30), beta development notes, Questie and RestedXP's Forever route. Things may change before the November 4 launch.
What stayed the samebeta data
The old Durotar, Orgrimmar and Barrens quests are all still there, with the same coordinates, and the experience needed per level hasn't changed.
The Hunter class quests at 10 are the same as in Classic, but the rewards differ (according to Wowhead): the third one, Taming the Beast[10], gives Tame Beast right away, and Training the Beast[10] gives Beast Training. Horde Hunters have no other class quests until 50.
No new flight paths for the Horde in 1-30. The hearthstone is once an hour.
Your pet gets stats from your gear: part of your attack power and your full crit chance. Buffs from other players don't work on it. You can only tame beasts of your level and lower. A new pet family - foxes (there are none on the Horde 1-30 route).
Every pet family has its own ability (bears hit three targets, spiders root, raptors apply a bleed and so on). The shared ones are Claw or Bite and Growl.
Aimed Shot - from the trainer at 20, 2-second cast, 6-second cooldown, about 110% more bonus damage since November 2. Multi-Shot - 0.5-second cast, and they share the cooldown. Traps - in combat, at your feet, 30-second cooldown, shared by all traps since November 2. Disengage drops twice as much threat and no longer takes you out of combat.
Arcane Shot +10-54% (rank 1 gains the most) and about +30% more since November 2, Hunter's Mark +30%, Serpent Sting was weaker by 21-50% depending on rank, and on November 2 it went up by about 20%. Aspect of the Beast at 30 gives +50 melee attack power, and Rapid Fire speeds up melee too.
Still here: arrows (they get used up), quivers (+10% ranged attack speed) and the 8-yard "dead zone".
Troll racialsbeta data
Berserking: a flat +10% attack and casting speed for 15 seconds, with a 3-minute cooldown (in Classic, up to 30% at low health). It also speeds up Auto Shot.
Rapid Regeneration (new): restores 50% health over 6 seconds. Moving, taking an action or taking damage interrupts it. The cooldown is 3 minutes.
Regeneration: +20% health regeneration, with 20% of normal regeneration continuing in combat. Beast Slaying: +5% damage against beasts, which make up a large part of Durotar and the Barrens.
Bow and Thrown specializations have been removed, along with all racial weapon skill bonuses.
On October 26 Blizzard finished the racial pass before launch, and on October 27 it made Troll Berserking last 15 seconds instead of 10.
What testers sayfrom players
The hottest debate is pet attack speed: by players' measurements, fast pets hit harder (a tallstrider attacking every 1.3 seconds does 25 DPS, a normal one 18). Blizzard hasn't answered, and it may be evened out before launch.
Pet happiness barely drops and loyalty grows fast - some like it, others ask to bring back pet care.
Every beta people ask to remove the "dead zone", and every time most of them answer: "it's part of the class".
The stable has few slots (2 + the pet with you): people are asking for more.
PvP and rulesetsofficial
Rulesets to choose from: "Normal" - PvP only if you want it (/pvp). "PvP" - your flag turns on by itself in contested and enemy zones. "RP" - same as Normal.
Horde territory on the 1-20 route: Durotar and the Barrens. Contested: Stonetalon (from 18), then Hillsbrad, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles.
Battlegrounds: Warsong Gulch from 10, Arathi Basin from 20, the new Darkspear Islands (15 vs 15) from 30. On the beta, according to testers, only the level 30 battleground is open.
Cooked food gives +5% experience from kills. Camping buffs, the tent and the sleeping bag.
Dungeon quests give 2-3 times the experience of normal ones.
There's no automatic dungeon finder - only the bulletin board, and meeting stones don't summon.
The Legacy system: account-wide bonuses unlock once your first character reaches 25.

Tips and common mistakes
The hearthstone, dangerous mobs, what not to forget
1 - Valley of Trials. ~7.5 - Razor Hill: the taming quests, and after Orgrimmar you hearth back there, where Takrin Pathseeker gives you Conscript of the Horde[12]. ~12.8 - the Crossroads, until level 22.
~22.6 - Undercity: from Hillsbrad you hearth to the zeppelin home. ~27.5 - Splintertree Post: from Zoram'gar back to the Foulweald. ~29.7 - Freewind Post: from Thunder Bluff after your level 30 skills - back to Thousand Needles.
For short distances - a death run, but only until 10: after that you often have to revive your pet after resurrecting (Revive Pet - all your mana), and from 11 there's also "Resurrection Sickness" and -25% durability.
Stonetalon: the Grimtotem casters, the elite Besseleth (without a partner - at 27), the rare Venture Co. Elites at Windshear Crag, Sorrow Wing and Sister Riven. Hunters have no interrupts - kill casters and healers first.
