Best gold farming spots in WoW Forever at levels 20, 30, 40, and 60

Updated 29 October 2026 · 28 min read · based on beta 1.60.1 and official news

WoW Forever has no WoW Token, so you'll have to earn your gold the old-fashioned way, and the best place to do it is where Forever itself made farming easier. In several zones, mobs respawn a lot faster now. Here are spots for levels 20, 30, 40, and 60: what to kill, what it drops, which crafters will buy it, and which class each spot suits. Every level also gets a short block on what professions bring in at those spots, and at the end you'll find dungeons you can farm solo. The level 20 and 30 spots are in zones that were open on the beta, and the locations come from Classic, checked against Forever's data. Nobody has played levels 40 and 60 in Forever yet, so for now those spots have only been tested in Classic.

What Forever changed for farming

Before you head out, learn a few Forever rules, because they change where you should go and how to act once you're there. General questions about gold, the Auction House, and bans are in our guide on how to earn gold.

  • Mobs respawn faster in seven zones. Since October 1 that's been true in Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale, Wetlands, Duskwood, and Thousand Needles, and Stonetalon Mountains and Redridge Mountains got the same change even earlier. Farming there pays a lot better, which is why most of our level 20 and 30 spots are in these zones.
  • Loot goes to whoever hits first. That player or their group gets it, and Blizzard has no plans to change this. So on a crowded spot, don't fight over mobs. Invite the people around you to a group, and everyone gets loot.
  • Layers help. If the game offers to move you to another layer in five minutes, take it right away. A new layer often has fresh mobs and untouched ore veins, though sometimes everything there has already been cleared out.
  • Mage AoE was nerfed on purpose. Improved Blizzard slows by 40% now instead of 65%, and the Cone of Cold slow got weaker and shorter. Blizzard said outright that this was to counter mass farming. Mobs reach the mage faster now, so pull fewer than you would in Classic.
  • Expensive reagents have a price ceiling. On the beta, the Black Market vendor in Powderfuse Port, Riverglades, sold Black Lotus and Arcane Crystal for 50 gold each, and Forever's new materials for 5-50 gold. Prices might change by launch, but for now hardly anyone will pay more for these materials than the vendor charges, so Black Lotus isn't a gold mine in Forever anymore.
  • Vendoring crafts doesn't pay anymore. On October 8 and 15, Blizzard cut the price vendors pay for a lot of crafted items. The "craft it and vendor it" trick is dead, so put everything you make to sell on the Auction House.

What sells and who buys it

In Forever, most of your gold comes from materials crafters buy on the Auction House, not from grays. Tailors buy cloth, and the leveling route in our guide goes through about 650 Wool Cloth, 520 Silk Cloth, and 2800 Runecloth. Cloth also goes into trading company crates, which reward Merchant's Favor, so people saving up Favor buy it too. Leatherworkers buy leather, and cooks buy meat, because food gives +5% XP in Forever and everyone eats it.

The table shows what a vendor pays for each material. That price never changes, and nobody will know Auction House prices until launch, so treat the vendor price as your floor and sell on the Auction House.

Rogues get extra income from the lockboxes and junkboxes they pick from pockets. Lockboxes drop from regular mobs too, but a vendor pays next to nothing for an unopened one, from 50 copper to 5 silver, so you're better off opening it. A rogue can pick it themselves, and everyone else can ask a rogue to do it for a tip. It's still unclear whether Forever needs Lockpicking skill to open lockboxes and junkboxes, since the game data and beta reports disagree.

Where to farm gold at level 20

At levels 18-25, humanoids still drop linen, but wool is what you're really after. Until 30 it's what tailors buy the most, and every trading company crate takes 20 of it. All five spots below are in zones where Forever sped up respawns.

  • Hillsbrad Foothills: Hillsbrad Fields and Durnholde Keep. The fields around (33, 42) are home to Hillsbrad Farmhand, Hillsbrad Farmer, Hillsbrad Footman, and other level 22-26 humans. They're friendly to the Alliance, so only the Horde can kill them. Durnholde Keep, to the east at (77, 44), is open to both factions, with Syndicate Watchman, Syndicate Shadow Mage, and Syndicate Rogue inside at level 20-22. The humans drop linen and wool, and the miners in the mine to the west, at (30, 56), already drop silk. There are ore veins and herbs nearby, and our ore maps and herb maps show exactly where. Mages do well here, since lots of humans stand close together, and rogues can pick the Syndicate's pockets too. Keep in mind that the fields sit between Tarren Mill and Southshore, so running into the other faction is a regular thing here.
  • Ashenvale: furbolgs. Level 23-24 Thistlefur furbolgs live around (36, 37), where Thistlefur Avenger and Thistlefur Shaman roam. Farther south, at (53, 62), another tribe has its camp, with Foulweald Warrior and Foulweald Totemic. Furbolgs drop wool, and Bruiseweed and Wild Steelbloom grow all around, which our herb maps show exactly. The spot's open to both factions. Furbolgs come in twos and threes, which makes this spot really comfy for hunters and warlocks, since your pet holds the second mob while you kill the first.
  • Wetlands: gnolls, the Dragonmaw, and beasts. Mosshide gnolls stand at (60, 71) and (50, 40), where Mosshide Gnoll, Mosshide Mongrel, and Mosshide Fenrunner roam. In the northwest, at (36, 30), you'll find Mosshide Trapper and Mosshide Brute, level 23-25. In the middle of the zone, at (46, 45), there's an orc camp with higher-level mobs, Dragonmaw Raider at level 26-27. Wetlands is full of beasts to skin. Young Wetlands Crocolisk roams the whole zone, Wetlands Crocolisk lives at (33, 35) and Mottled Raptor at (26, 49), and they all give Medium Leather. Crocolisk meat isn't needed for the Cooking route in our guide, so it won't sell well on the Auction House, and if it doesn't move, vendor it. This spot is mostly for the Alliance. The Horde has no flight point here, though you can walk in.
  • Redridge Mountains: Blackrock and the Shadowhides. Alliance only. Level 19-22 orcs like Blackrock Outrunner and Blackrock Renegade roam around (58, 57), just don't mix them up with the elite sentries right next to Stonewatch Keep. To the east, at (74, 45), live level 22-26 gnolls like Shadowhide Gnoll and Shadowhide Slayer. Orcs and gnolls drop linen and wool, rogues can pick their pockets too, and the Alliance trading company camp is right there in Redridge, so you can hand in wool crates without leaving the zone.
  • Stonetalon Mountains: Venture Co. goblins and harpies. Level 18-20 Venture Co. goblins work around (68, 52): Venture Co. Logger, Venture Co. Operator, and Venture Co. Deforester, with level 21-22 Windshear Digger nearby. Next up by level are the level 24-27 harpies in the southwest at (32, 66), like Bloodfury Slayer, and they drop wool more often than the goblins. The spot's open to both factions, but for a lot of players it's the first contested zone on the way, so expect run-ins with the other faction.

Professions at level 20

With a profession, the same spots give you more than wool. Here's what will definitely sell on the Auction House at 20, and the gold sections of the profession guides have the details.

Bruiseweed grows right next to the Ashenvale furbolgs, so you can pick it between fights and sell it on the Auction House: everyone leveling First Aid buys it, because in Forever healing potions moved from Alchemy to First Aid. Frilled Lichen turns up rarely, most often when you gather Earthroot, and you should list it on the Auction House too: alchemists make a dye from two lichens, and 131 recipes call for that dye.

Only miners can smelt ore into bars, so blacksmiths and engineers buy ready-made bars on the Auction House: a blacksmith following the leveling route in our guide needs about 450 copper and 400 bronze bars, an engineer 187 and 119. Copper and tin veins sometimes drop Pyrite: a vendor pays just 1 silver for it, while on the Auction House it's wanted by alchemists, who turn it into an acid used in 45 recipes.

Medium Leather comes from the beasts of Wetlands, and it's worth listing on the Auction House: leatherworkers need about 276 for their leveling route, and engineers take another 25. If you get Pristine Leather, list that on the Auction House too. 126 recipes call for it, mostly the new sets for levels 12-25 and 35-50, and almost every item in them binds on pickup, so crafters make them for themselves and buy the leather rather than the finished item.

Woolen BagTailoring

Everyone needs bags, and this is the first decent bag a leveling character can afford, so make it to sell and list it on the Auction House. It takes three bolts of wool and some thread, and you're collecting wool at these spots anyway. The pattern costs 2 silver at the trainer.

Alchemists no longer make regular healing potions, so everyone who doesn't level First Aid buys them on the Auction House. If you also have Herbalism, it's almost pure profit: you gather the Bruiseweed yourself, and the vial and the spices cost 40 copper each from a vendor. The recipe costs 8 silver at the trainer.

Disenchant the green items you get from humanoids and list the dust and essences on the Auction House. Every beginning enchanter needs them, and in Forever 21 blacksmithing recipes and 2 leatherworking recipes call for them as well. Blacksmiths and leatherworkers can't disenchant, so they buy them on the Auction House.

Where to farm gold at level 30

Around 28, silk starts dropping instead of wool. Tailors need about 520 for their leveling route, and silk also goes into bags you can sell. The beta went up to 30, so players have already seen the zones up to 30, and the spots for 31-35 come from Classic and have been checked against the game data.

  • Thousand Needles: Galak centaurs and the Grimtotem. Level 24-26 Galak centaurs like Galak Scout stand around (43.5, 39), and to the northwest, at (35, 29), live level 26-28 centaurs like Galak Mauler. Nearby, at (35, 34), is a level 25-28 Grimtotem camp with mobs like Grimtotem Geomancer. The centaurs and the Grimtotem drop wool and your first silk. For skinning, Pesterhide Hyena and Needles Cougar roam nearby, and on the beta, skinning level 25-34 mobs sometimes gave Pristine Hide, which is worth listing on the Auction House. Mobs respawn faster here, the spot's open to both factions, and any class can farm it.
  • Duskwood: Nightbane worgen. Alliance only. Level 26-30 worgen live in the east of the zone: Nightbane Worgen at (61, 42), Nightbane Dark Runner at (64, 61), and Nightbane Vile Fang at (70, 74). They hit hard, so cloth classes should take them one at a time, but on the bright side they respawn faster here. The skeletons by the graveyard in the west, around (20, 38), drop both wool and silk.
  • Alterac Mountains: ogres, the Syndicate, and the Dalaran camp. Level 34-36 ogres like Crushridge Ogre stand around (50, 45) and drop silk. Some of them are elite, so only take those on in a group. The Syndicate is holed up in a ruined town at (54, 74), with level 32-34 Syndicate Footpad and Syndicate Thief. They drop silk, and a rogue will find something worth taking from their pockets. By Lordamere Lake, around (19, 75), there's a camp of level 31-35 Dalaran mages, and Forever lowered the level of the summoners among them. The mages drop silk too. They're definitely hostile to the Horde, but we don't know yet if they're hostile to the Alliance now that Dalaran is a friendly city.
  • Arathi Highlands: the Syndicate, ogres, and trolls. The level 30-33 Syndicate lives in a manor in the northwest at (32, 28), with mobs like Syndicate Highwayman. Level 32-34 ogres like Boulderfist Ogre stand at (34, 45), and level 32-35 trolls like Witherbark Witch Doctor at (66, 70). They all drop silk, and you can mine iron and gold and pick herbs in Arathi too. The Alliance's closest base is Refuge Pointe, and the Horde's is Hammerfall.
  • Northern Stranglethorn Vale: Kurzen, the Bloodscalps, and big cats. Kurzen's men, level 32-35, live in the camp at (46, 9), like Kurzen Jungle Fighter, and level 34-35 Bloodscalp trolls stand at (25, 11), like Bloodscalp Scout. Both drop silk. Between the camps you'll find level 30-33 beasts to skin: Young Stranglethorn Tiger, Stranglethorn Tiger, and Panther. It's a good spot for a hunter or a druid with Skinning, but it's the hottest PvP zone at these levels.

Professions at level 30

By 30, crafters need next-tier materials, and you can gather a lot of them right at the spots above.

List both herbs on the Auction House. Alchemists buy Kingsblood and need 46 for their leveling route, leatherworkers need it for gloves that add Herbalism skill, and enchanters for the matching enchant. Alchemists need Wild Steelbloom too: their route uses 38. Our herb maps show where both grow at your level.

Steel Bar and BauxiteMining

Only miners can smelt steel bars, from an iron bar and coal, so blacksmiths and engineers buy steel on the Auction House: a blacksmith needs almost 580 steel bars for the route, an engineer 120. You'll find iron and gold in Arathi Highlands, where you're farming silk anyway. And gold and mithril veins yield Bauxite: list it on the Auction House as well, because engineers turn it into sandpaper for 25 new blacksmithing recipes.

List Heavy Leather on the Auction House: two professions buy it. Leatherworkers need about 206 for their route, and tailors two for every silk bag. On the beta, Pristine Hide dropped from level 25-34 mobs, and you should list it on the Auction House too: 46 recipes need it, almost all of them new leatherworking sets. For more on pristine materials, see our Skinning guide.

This ten-slot bag is made from silk, which drops at the spots above, so make it to sell and list it on the Auction House. Besides thread, you'll need Heavy Leather: two per bag, and if you skin yourself, you won't have to buy it. The pattern costs 8 silver at the trainer.

List snappers on the Auction House for alchemists. An alchemist makes Fire Oil from two fish, and in Forever each craft yields two oils; the oil goes into potions, elixirs and more than a dozen tailoring patterns for silk items. One Alchemy leveling run takes about 70 snappers. See our fishing maps for where to catch them.

Where to farm gold at level 40

The main goal here is obvious: save up 100 gold for Apprentice Riding by 40. Mageweave starts dropping instead of silk, and leather and meat are best taken from beasts and spiders.

  • Tanaris: the Wastewanders and Southsea pirates. East of Gadgetzan, around (62, 33), roam level 40-45 Wastewanders like Wastewander Thief and Wastewander Rogue. Level 44-45 pirates like Southsea Pirate hold a cove on the coast at (73, 46). They drop silk and mageweave. For rogues this is the best spot at 40-45. The humanoids are packed tight, their pockets turn up lockboxes, and Gadgetzan is a couple of minutes' walk away. The zone is neutral and open to both factions.
  • Southern Stranglethorn Vale: the Bloodsail and the Skullsplitters. Level 39-45 Bloodsail pirates stand near Booty Bay, around (30, 72), like Bloodsail Raider, Bloodsail Swashbuckler, and Bloodsail Sea Dog. Level 39-40 trolls like Skullsplitter Warrior live in the ruins at (46, 37). Pirates and trolls drop silk and mageweave. For skinning, there are level 37-38 Shadowmaw Panther and Stranglethorn Tigress at (42, 32) and Jungle Stalker at (29, 45), and they give Heavy and Thick Leather.
  • Feralas: Gordunni ogres, gnolls, and bears. Level 40-41 Gordunni ogres stand north of Camp Mojache at (77, 31), and level 42-45 ogres like Gordunni Brute and Gordunni Warlock are in the south at (60, 64). Level 41-43 gnolls like Woodpaw Trapper live at (72, 50). Ogres and gnolls drop mageweave. For skinning, Feralas has the Ironfur Bear, while the yetis here count as humanoids in Forever's data, so they drop cloth but can't be skinned. The Horde can start from Camp Mojache, and the Alliance has farther to go, since its base is on an island off the coast.
  • Dustwallow Marsh: spiders. By the cave in the northwest, around (33, 22), live level 35-39 spiders like Darkmist Spider and Darkmist Silkspinner. They drop White Spider Meat and Thick Spider's Silk, and you should list both on the Auction House. Cooks need the meat, since the Cooking route in our guide uses 94, so while everyone's leveling Cooking, it'll sell. For skinning, there are raptors: Bloodfen Raptor at (49, 18), and Bloodfen Razormaw and Bloodfen Lashtail in the south at (34, 67).
  • Badlands: buzzards and rock elementals. Level 35-41 buzzards (Buzzard) fly around (19, 64), and they drop Buzzard Wing. A vendor pays almost two silver per wing, but cooks need 38 for their route, so try the Auction House first. Level 37-40 rock elementals (Lesser Rock Elemental and Rock Elemental) drop Elemental Earth, which tailors buy. The Badlands also have plenty of iron, mithril, and gold veins, and you can see them on our ore maps.

Professions at level 40

At 40, crafters buy materials by the hundred, and you can gather a lot of them right at the spots above.

List Mithril Bars on the Auction House: a blacksmith needs almost 1500 for the route, an engineer almost 200 more. Blacksmiths also need about 500 Truesilver Bars, but don't count on those as your main income: in Forever, alchemists can transmute truesilver once an hour, so the Auction House will soon be flooded with it. Mithril and truesilver veins yield Star Ruby, which 39 recipes call for - list that on the Auction House too. The Badlands are a good place to mine mithril; our ore maps show the veins.

List both herbs on the Auction House. Blacksmiths need Purple Lotus: eight new Sentinel's armor recipes take 2 to 10 per item, and tailors also make an herb bag from it. Alchemists need Arthas' Tears: their leveling route uses 41. Our herb maps show where both grow.

List Thick Leather on the Auction House: two professions buy it. Leatherworkers need about 399 for their route, blacksmiths about 286 for mithril items. It's best skinned from the beasts of southern Stranglethorn Vale and Feralas.

Mageweave BagTailoring

The simplest big bag: four bolts of mageweave and two spools of thread from a vendor, no leather or dyes. Mageweave drops from the humanoids at the spots above, so make bags and list them on the Auction House. The pattern costs 50 silver at the trainer.

Make them to sell to hunters. The best vendor quiver has 14 slots and +12% ranged attack speed, while these have 16 slots and +13%, and you can equip them from level 40, so hunters will look for them on the Auction House. You make the ammo pouches anyway on the leveling route, and you can list the 15 it gives you on the Auction House right away.

Riverglades: a new zone nobody has figured out yet

Riverglades, the new level 35-45 zone, sits between Redridge Mountains and Burning Steppes. It has Powderfuse Port with the Black Market and a new fishing trainer, and there's a new dungeon nearby. Nobody knows what the mobs here drop, because hardly anyone went there on the beta. Check out Riverglades in the first days after launch. Until somebody figures the zone out, that's where you'll have the least competition.

Where to farm gold at level 60

At 60, the most money comes from runecloth, rugged leather, essences, and herbs. Keep in mind that raids open on December 9, and people will want more potions, food, and enchants once they do.

  • Winterspring: furbolgs and frostsabers. Level 53-58 Winterfall furbolgs live in two places, by the path in the west around (36, 40) and in their village in the east around (67, 38). They drop runecloth, and their beads bind on pickup and are only good for rep. Level 56-60 frostsabers (Frostsaber) live at (52, 15), and you skin rugged leather off them. The yetis here count as humanoids, so they drop cloth but can't be skinned. Icecap grows here too, so for a druid with Herbalism and Skinning this is the best spot, and miners will get good use out of the thorium veins.
  • Eastern Plaguelands: Tyr's Hand, the cult, and trolls. The Scarlet Crusade in Tyr's Hand, around (72, 70), drops tons of runecloth, but they're elite, so go in a group. Solo, it's easier to farm the cultists at (52, 38), level 58-60 Dark Adept and Shadowmage, or the trolls in the north at (61, 12), where level 57-59 Mossflayer Shadowhunter and Mossflayer Cannibal stand. The zone's undead drop Essence of Undeath, which you should list on the Auction House too, and herbalists can pick Plaguebloom here, which alchemists buy.
  • Silithus: Twilight's Hammer, dust stormers, and scorpids. Level 57-60 cultists like Twilight Avenger are all over the zone, for example at (29, 52), and they drop runecloth. Level 55-57 dust stormers (Dust Stormer) roam around (29, 23) and drop Essence of Air. The scorpids here are Stonelash Scorpid and Stonelash Pincer. In Classic you could skin Heavy Scorpid Scale off them, and leatherworkers need more than four hundred for their route, but we'll only know after launch if that still holds in Forever.
  • Un'Goro Crater: devilsaurs, diemetradons, and the Living Blaze. Devilsaurs (Devilsaur) are elite wandering beasts, and they give Devilsaur Leather, which leatherworkers buy. In Classic, hunters usually farmed them solo, but the spot gets really crowded. Diemetradons (Diemetradon and Elder Diemetradon) give rugged leather. And the Living Blaze roams around (50, 49) and drops Essence of Fire, which tailors and enchanters need for fire protection before Onyxia.
  • Burning Steppes: Blackrock and ogres. Level 56-57 Blackrock Slayer and Blackrock Warlock stand at (47, 46) and drop runecloth, and in the east, at (80, 45), live level 50-53 ogres like Firegut Ogre, which drop it too. Rogues can open the chests here as well, but remember it's still unclear whether that needs Lockpicking skill.
  • Backup option for 48-55: Felwood. Level 49-51 satyrs at (40, 82), like Jadefire Satyr, drop Felcloth. A vendor pays 20 silver for it, but tailors and warlocks are waiting for it on the Auction House, so list it there.

Professions at level 60

At 60, raids drive demand. Raiders need flasks, potions, and fire protection for Onyxia, and crafters need materials for level 60 gear.

Dreamfoil and GromsbloodHerbalism

List both herbs on the Auction House: alchemists will keep buying them up for raids. The three main raid flasks take 30 herbs each: Flask of Distilled Wisdom and Flask of Supreme Power are made from Dreamfoil, Flask of the Titans from Gromsblood. Besides Dreamfoil, the Flask of Distilled Wisdom also needs Icecap, 10 per flask. It grows only in Winterspring, where you're farming cloth and hides anyway. More in our Herbalism guide.

List Thorium Bars on the Auction House: 132 recipes call for them. A blacksmith needs more than 450 for the route, an engineer 166, and every arcanite transmute an alchemist does eats one bar and one Arcane Crystal. The crystal itself turns up in rich thorium veins; list it on the Auction House too, just remember the Black Market price ceiling we mentioned at the start.

Rugged Leather is the main level 60 leather, so list it on the Auction House: leatherworkers need about 636 for their route, tailors 148, and it also makes Enchanted Leather, which 71 recipes call for. In Classic, Heavy Scorpid Scale was skinned from the scorpids of Silithus; whether the same holds in Forever will become clear after release. If it does, list it too: leatherworkers need more than four hundred for their route.

MoonclothTailoring

Only a tailor can make Mooncloth, only at a moonwell and only one every 95 hours, yet 61 recipes need it, from bags to level 60 gear, so list it on the Auction House or craft with it yourself. It's made from Felcloth, two per Mooncloth, which the satyrs of Felwood drop. A missed cooldown is a lost Mooncloth, so make the next one as soon as you can.

Brew them and list them on the Auction House: in Forever, mana potions are still made only by an alchemist, and every caster and healer drinks them, from dungeons to raids. For Onyxia, brew Greater Fire Protection Potion too: in Forever its shield lasts only 2 minutes instead of an hour, so raiders can't drink it in advance and will have to drink it mid-fight.

If you run level 60 dungeons, disenchant your loot and list the materials on the Auction House: Large Brilliant Shard goes into 51 Enchanting recipes and Greater Eternal Essence into 41, so enchanters who are still leveling the profession will buy them.

Solo dungeon farming: mage, rogue, hunter, and others

In a dungeon you've got no competition. Nobody else tags your mobs, there are no layers, and after a reset every mob, herb, and vein is back. In Forever, where loot goes to whoever hits first, that's the biggest advantage. Here are the dungeons that mages, rogues, hunters, and other classes farmed solo in Classic, and what Forever changed in them.

  • A mage can only pull a whole room after 40. In Forever, Ice Block needs 15 points in the Frost tree and Ice Barrier needs 30, so the classic whole-room pull is off the table before 40. The weaker slows are covered in the "What Forever changed for farming" section.
  • Paid XP carries won't work. Dungeon mobs in Forever give about a quarter of the XP they gave in Classic, and if anyone in the group is way higher level than the mobs, nobody gets kill XP. You can still take people through dungeons for gold for quests and items, but boosting organizations are banned, even when they're paid in in-game gold.
  • We don't know the instance limit yet. Classic Era lets you into 5 different dungeons an hour, and Blizzard hasn't said what the limit is in Forever.
  • Don't count on world epics. Blizzard promised to rework them, and some of the Classic epics, along with some well-known boss drops, aren't in Forever's data yet.

Rogue: pockets and junkboxes

If you play a rogue, dungeons give you dense packs of humanoids nobody has picked before you. Pick Pocket only works from stealth, and in Forever Sap doesn't break it anymore, so slipping around packs and picking pockets got easier. Pick Lock still needs Thieves' Tools, but it's still unclear whether you need Lockpicking skill to open junkboxes. Forever's data shows no skill requirement on them, but beta players ran into locks that did need it.

  • Scarlet Monastery, 30-42. In Classic, the Library, the Armory, and the Cathedral were some of the best places to pick pockets. Level 30-40 mobs give you the Worn Junkbox. Open it yourself, and list the silk and mageweave that the Scarlet Crusade's humans drop on the Auction House.
  • Razorfen Downs, 34-41. Only the quilboar here have anything in their pockets, and the undead have nothing, so it's only worth it if you're heading to the Downs anyway.
  • Blackrock Depths, 48-59. The rogue's main spot at 50+. Dark Iron dwarves drop the Heavy Junkbox, and in Classic rogues collected 20-25 of these boxes an hour. Inside you'll find powders for Blind and Vanish, herbs for poisons, and Major Healing Potion, so your pockets pay for your reagents. Stay away from the hounds, because the Bloodhound sees through stealth. And in Classic, rogues opened the chests in the Depths' vault without fighting the guards and got out with Vanish.

Mage: AoE on packs

In Classic, mages farmed dungeons by the pack. Gather the mobs, slow them, and AoE them down. In Forever the slows from Blizzard and Cone of Cold are weaker, so pull fewer mobs than in the old videos and start with small packs.

  • Scarlet Monastery, 30-42. While leveling, a mage farms the Graveyard and the Library. At high level, Classic mages pulled the entire Cathedral. Once Scarlet Commander Mograine joined the fight, more than twenty mobs ran at the mage, who held them off until they'd all bunched up and then AoE'd them down. That takes Ice Barrier and Ice Block, so in Forever don't even try it before 40. List the cloth and greens from the Scarlet Crusade's humans on the Auction House, and vendor the grays.
  • Zul'Farrak, 43-48. Mages farm the graveyard full of zombies. Zul'Farrak Zombie is a level 43-44 elite, and Zul'Farrak Dead Hero a regular level 45-46 mob. In Classic this was almost pure gold for a mage without Herbalism. Grays went to a vendor, rare greens to the Auction House, and the Sandfury trolls in the rest of the dungeon dropped mageweave. The zombies are elite, though, and Forever's slows are weaker, so pull them a few at a time.
  • Dire Maul East, 54-58. In Classic this was the best farm for a mage with Herbalism. Right after you jump down, the lasher area starts, with Whip Lasher and Phase Lasher roaming around, and Dreamfoil and Gromsblood grow nearby, which alchemists will snap up for raids. Mobs drop librams like Libram of Rapidity. They don't bind, so list them on the Auction House. If you clear the whole dungeon, rich thorium veins wait for you past the last boss, and they can give Arcane Crystal and Blue Sapphire.

Hunter and warlock: Maraudon and the tribute run

Hunters and warlocks can kill elites solo thanks to their pet or demon, which holds the mob while you attack from range. In Forever it's even easier for hunters, since traps can be placed in combat now.

  • Maraudon, 42-51. Princess Theradras, Maraudon's last boss, is a level 51 elite, but in Classic hunters and warlocks cleared all of Maraudon solo and vendored the boss gear. You can also take melee through Maraudon for gold. The princess drops Blackstone Ring, a ring with attack power and hit, but it binds on pickup, so what you're selling isn't the ring but the run for it.
  • Dire Maul North, the tribute run. Here the hunter leans on the pet and Feign Death. That's how you slip past the bosses that have to stay alive for the tribute, and at the end it's just you and King Gordok. When the king dies, all the ogres turn friendly, and you can loot both his drops and the tribute chest. You can take paying players along here too. In Classic, tribute runs were also sold to raiders for the Dire Maul buffs, but we'll only see if there's demand for that in Forever after December 9, when raids open.

Druid, rogue, herbalist and miner: gathering without fighting

Dungeons are great for gathering too, since nobody has touched the herbs and veins before you. With stealth, druids and rogues can go through Maraudon and Dire Maul East past the packs, picking herbs and killing only what they need to. List everything you gather on the Auction House.

  • Maraudon: herbs and mithril. Go in through the orange entrance and head to the purple one, sneaking around the packs without touching anything. Ghost Mushroom and Blindweed grow along the way, and you'll run into mithril veins too, so you'll want both Herbalism and Mining.
  • Inner Maraudon. The Scepter of Celebras, a quest reward in Maraudon, opens a portal straight to Earth Song Falls in the inner part of the dungeon. Level 46-48 Deep Borer and Stolid Snapjaw live there, and the Stolid Snapjaw is a turtle you can skin. There are herbs and ore nearby too.

Paladin, priest, shaman and warrior

Undead suit paladins. In Forever the trainer teaches Consecration from level 20 and it doesn't need a talent anymore, and from 50 Holy Wrath hits all undead and demons around you. The undead in Stratholme drop Essence of Undeath, which you can list on the Auction House, though we haven't found solid data on how much that makes. Classic guides don't give priests, shamans, and warriors a solo dungeon farm of their own. For priests, Icy Veins recommends farming in a pair and healing.

  • Blackrock Depths fire elementals. They drop Essence of Fire. List it on the Auction House, since tailors and enchanters use it for fire protection before Onyxia.

New in Forever: camp blueprints

This is the only solo dungeon farm that didn't exist in Classic. The new level 15-33 dungeons drop blueprints for camp buildings at about 7-10%. They don't bind, so list them on the Auction House, and players with the matching profession at 140 or higher will buy them. A level 60 will most likely clear these dungeons solo, but nobody has tested that yet. There's more in our guide to new dungeon recipes.

Which spot suits your class and situation

Without professions, any spot with humanoids works, since they drop cloth, grays, and greens. As a pair, your best targets are the elite Alterac ogres at 30 and the Scarlet Crusade in Tyr's Hand at 60. Two players kill elites a lot faster, and in a group the loot goes to both of you, not just whoever hit first.

If you have Herbalism, Mining, Skinning, or Fishing, our maps make picking a spot easier: herbs, ore, beasts, and fishing. And don't vendor Forever's scarce materials like Pyrite, Frilled Lichen, and pristine hides. List them on the Auction House.

What not to farm

  • Rare mob items to resell. Items from the Blessing of Kalimdor set and other rare mob sets bind on pickup, so you can't sell them on the Auction House.
  • Furbolg beads and Deadwood feathers. These are rep currency for Timbermaw Hold. They bind on pickup, so you can't sell them on the Auction House.
  • Black Lotus for big money. Nobody will pay more for it than the Black Market vendor in Powderfuse Port charges, because buyers will just go to the vendor. Same goes for other rare materials with a price ceiling.
  • Crafting to vendor. In October Blizzard cut the vendor price of crafted items twice, so list everything you make on the Auction House.
  • Bots and programs that repeat keystrokes. They get you banned, same as buying gold for real money. On the beta, more than three and a half thousand buyer and seller accounts got closed.

Frequently asked questions

Where should you farm gold at level 20 in WoW Forever?

In the zones where Forever sped up respawns, like the Hillsbrad fields (Horde), the Ashenvale furbolgs, and the Wetlands gnolls. The humanoids there drop wool, which tailors buy on the Auction House and which goes into trading company crates.

What should you farm at level 30?

Silk. It drops from the centaurs in Thousand Needles, the Syndicate and ogres in Alterac Mountains and Arathi Highlands, and the trolls in northern Stranglethorn Vale. If you have Skinning, there are plenty of beasts nearby.

How do you save 100 gold for riding by level 40?

List cloth and leather on the Auction House instead of vendoring them, take Herbalism or Mining, and don't blow money on small stuff. Trading company crates reward Merchant's Favor, and crafters buy Forever's scarce materials from veins and herbs on the Auction House, because the new recipes need them.

Is Black Lotus worth farming in WoW Forever?

Not for big money. On the beta, the Black Market vendor in Powderfuse Port sold it for 50 gold, so it's unlikely to go for more.

Can a mage AoE farm like in Classic?

It can, but Blizzard and Cone of Cold slow less in Forever, so pull fewer mobs at a time.

Can you farm dungeons solo in WoW Forever?

You can, but nobody has played Forever above 30 yet, so for now these are Classic techniques: a mage in Zul'Farrak and Dire Maul East, a rogue picking pockets in Blackrock Depths, and a hunter in Maraudon and on the tribute run. Keep in mind that mage AoE got nerfed in Forever. Blizzard hasn't said yet how many dungeons you can enter per hour.

Where should a rogue pick pockets in dungeons?

In Classic it was Scarlet Monastery at 30-42 and Blackrock Depths at 48-59, where Dark Iron dwarves drop Heavy Junkboxes with powders, herbs for poisons, and potions. Nobody has played these levels in Forever yet.

How many times an hour can you enter a dungeon?

Classic Era allows 5 different dungeons an hour. Blizzard hasn't said yet what the limit is in Forever.
