WoW Forever Tailoring leveling guide 1-300: route, recipes, and trainers

Updated 29 October 2026 · 19 min read · based on beta 1.60.1 and official news

Leveling Tailoring from 1 to 300 in WoW Forever takes about 369 crafts, and since cloth drops from humanoids, a tailor barely needs a gathering profession. Up to 241 the trainers cover the recipes with linen belts, woolen capes, shirts, silk and mageweave gear, and runecloth belts. From there to 281 the route uses patterns sold by vendors, and the last 19 points come from patterns that drop from mobs. One of them, for Inferno Gloves, you'll have to farm yourself, and those gloves can only be made at a Spinning Wheel, one of three new camp items. Forever also gives tailors caster sets of their own, and bags, the tailor's bread and butter, got bigger and in places pricier. Here you'll find the step-by-step route, how to make gold, where to train each rank, the Spinning Wheel and Loom, the new patterns, and the mistakes that cost people gold.

Why Tailoring is worth it in WoW Forever

A tailor makes cloth armor and bags. The material is easy to come by, since cloth drops from humanoids, so everything you loot while leveling goes straight into crafting, and your second profession slot stays free. Every player needs bags, and in Forever only a tailor can make a regular bag with more than 6 slots.

For casters, the profession in Forever also gives you gear on the way to 60. From skill 35 the trainer teaches blue belts for level 10, with Novice Arcanist's Sash adding spell power and Novice Ardent's Sash healing. After that come full sets for each school of magic, covered in the sets section. These items bind to you, so you make them for yourself, not to sell.

Tailoring usually goes with Enchanting, since you can disenchant what you make, and cloth costs next to nothing if you loot it yourself. If you'd rather not depend on other people's dyes, Alchemy works too. Forever's new bags and sets need dyes only alchemists make, though then you'll have to buy the herbs for them.

What changed in Forever Tailoring

  • Caster sets of your own. More than 160 new recipes, and most of them are gear for yourself, from level 10 belts off the trainer to sets for each school of magic, healing to arcane. Some patterns cost Merchant's Favor, and some drop from dungeon bosses. There's more in the sets section.
  • Camp items. From skill 20 a tailor makes the Faction Banner, which raises Spirit for everyone on your side at the campfire. At 140 you add the Spinning Wheel, and at 300 the Loom. The wheel and the loom are also crafting stations, with 74 recipes made at the Spinning Wheel and 43 at the Loom. There's more in the camp section.
  • Bags got bigger, and some got pricier. The Mooncloth Bag has 18 slots now instead of 16, the Bottomless Bag 20 instead of 18, and the special bags for enchanting materials, herbs, and soul shards grew too. But the Runecloth Bag and the Mooncloth Bag need the alchemists' new dyes now.
  • Reagent bags. A new line, from the 6-slot Linen Reagent Bag to the 20-slot Bottomless Reagent Bag. They only bind when equipped, so you can sell them. Tailoring supply vendors sell the patterns for the first two, Linen and Woolen.
  • Legacy. You earn a Legacy point the first time you reach 150, 225, and 300, and the Working Overtime perk in the professions branch adds up to 20% to your skill-up chance. At 300 you can buy the Tailoring Certification at your trading company camp for 1000 Merchant's Favor, and it gives you the tailor title.

Tailoring leveling route 1-300

The route is built from the beta client data, and each stretch uses the recipe that raises your skill the cheapest. Craft counts are averages. An orange recipe always gives a point, and yellow and green ones don't, so keep some spare cloth. You make the bolts yourself along the way, and the cloth for them is already in the materials list. A bolt of linen takes 2 Linen Cloth, a bolt of wool 3 Wool Cloth, a bolt of silk 4, and Mageweave and Runecloth bolts 5 each. The trainer sells the wool and silk bolt recipes for 1 and 5 silver.

The first 41 points come from recipes you get with the profession, starting with Bolt of Linen Cloth, which takes Linen Cloth, then Linen Cloak and Simple Linen Pants. Next come trainer recipes: Linen Belt to 68 and Reinforced Linen Cape to 78, and at 78 you move on to wool, with Woolen Cape to 98 and Stylish Red Shirt to 125. The shirt needs Red Dye, which a vendor sells. From 125 to 141, Gloves of Meditation carry you, and they use up Elixir of Wisdom (23), which alchemists make. The next six points come from the Bolt of Mageweave recipe, and you'll need those bolts later anyway. Up to 180 it's silk: Red Swashbuckler's Shirt, Earthen Vest (it needs Elemental Earth), Crimson Silk Vest, and Crimson Silk Pantaloons. From 180 you put the Mageweave bolts to work with Orange Mageweave Shirt, Black Mageweave Gloves, and Black Mageweave Headband.

Runecloth starts at 205. The first eight points come from the Bolt of Runecloth recipe, three more from another round of Black Mageweave Headbands, and from 216 to 241 Runecloth Belt carries you, with 32 belts taking 96 Bolts of Runecloth. The trainer has no other recipes past 210, so once the belt turns green, the route moves on to patterns sold for gold, with no rep needed.

From 241 to 252, make Runecloth Gloves. Wowhead says Pattern: Runecloth Gloves is sold in Winterspring (vendor Qia), and 12 pairs take 48 Bolts of Runecloth and 48 Rugged Leather. That leather is skinned from high-level beasts, and leatherworkers make it too. From 252 to 281, make Runecloth Cuffs. Wowhead says Pattern: Runecloth Cuffs sells for 10 gold on Mount Hyjal. The seller is Pexmit, a rare demon vendor, so it won't always be there. 36 cuffs take 180 Bolts of Runecloth and 36 Ironweb Spider Silk, which drops from spiders.

The last 19 points come from patterns that drop from mobs. From 281 to 291, make Runecloth Shoulders. Pattern: Runecloth Shoulders doesn't bind, so you can buy it on the Auction House, and 16 pairs take 112 Bolts of Runecloth, 64 leather, and 32 spider silk. From 291 to 296 the route makes Felcloth Shoulders, and Pattern: Felcloth Shoulders sells on the Auction House too. Each pair of shoulders needs Felcloth (6) and Demonic Rune (4), so 9 pairs take 54 Felcloth and 36 runes. You can buy Felcloth on the Auction House, but Demonic Runes bind on pickup, so you'll have to farm them from demons yourself. The last 4 points come from Inferno Gloves. Pattern: Inferno Gloves binds on pickup too, so you can't buy it and will have to farm it yourself, and the gloves can only be made at a Spinning Wheel. 5 pairs take 60 Bolts of Runecloth, Essence of Fire (50), and Star Ruby (10).

If you're missing a pattern or want to work out the cost with your realm's prices, open the route in the calculator. You can start from your current skill, take a recipe out, and pick the cheapest or the fastest path. That helps the most at the very end. If the Inferno Gloves pattern never drops, take that recipe out and the calculator will find a replacement for the last points.

What to buy or gather

Only vendor goods have a price here, because it never changes. Buy the rest on the Auction House or gather it yourself.

Made along the way

Cheaper to make yourself: their materials are already in the list.

Auction House prices are not listed: Forever has no Auction House yet, and once it opens prices will change every day. Enter your server's prices in the calculator and it will add up the cost. Craft counts are averages: on yellow and green recipes not every craft gives a point. Data: the Forever beta and Wowhead, to be rechecked after release.

Making gold with Tailoring in WoW Forever

The route above raises your skill but makes almost nothing, since nobody wants leveling belts, capes, and shirts. As a tailor, you make your money on bags, Mooncloth, and the items other players come to you for. Here's what will definitely sell in Forever, and why.

You won't find prices here, and we're not adding any. The beta was capped at level 30, so nobody has seen real level 60 prices yet, and after launch your realm's Auction House will show them. Before you craft a batch, compare the price of a finished bag with the cost of the cloth, thread, and dyes that go into it.

Bags: the product everyone needs

Leatherworkers only make the Kodo Hide Bag and the 6-slot reagent bag, plus quivers and ammo pouches. Anything bigger comes from tailors. Regular bags don't bind, so people buy them for themselves, their alts, and the bank, and demand won't dry up as long as new characters keep showing up.

Woolen BagSkill 50+

An eight-slot bag: three Bolts of Woolen Cloth and one Fine Thread, with the recipe from the trainer for 2 silver. It is the first proper bag a leveling character can afford, and you collect the wool along the way anyway.

Small Silk PackSkill 125+

A ten-slot bag. Besides silk bolts and thread it needs 2 Heavy Leather, which is skinned from beasts or made by leatherworkers. The recipe costs 8 silver at the trainer.

Mageweave BagSkill 190+

A twelve-slot bag: four Bolts of Mageweave and Silken Thread (2), with no leather or dyes. The recipe costs 50 silver at the trainer. It is the simplest big bag to make: its whole cost is cloth plus vendor thread.

Runecloth BagSkill 215+

Fourteen slots. Pattern: Runecloth Bag is sold in Winterspring (vendor Qia). In Forever the recipe got more expensive: on top of 5 Bolts of Runecloth, Rugged Leather (2) and Rune Thread, it now needs dyes, Magenta Dye (4) and Cerulean Dye (2), and only alchemists make those. Line up an alchemist for the dyes in advance.

Mooncloth BagSkill 255+

Eighteen slots, up from 16 in Classic. It needs one Mooncloth and plenty of dye: Viridian Dye (10), Magenta Dye (2) and Cerulean Dye (4). Alchemists make Viridian Dye at a Fermenter, using Stranglevine. Pattern: Mooncloth Bag drops from mobs.

Profession bags and warlock bags

Special bags in Forever are a lot bigger than in Classic. They only hold items of their own type, like enchanting materials, herbs, or soul shards, but they have more slots than a regular bag of the same level. All four only bind when equipped, so you can sell them.

An enchanting bag with 20 slots instead of 16. The only special material is 4 Vision Dust; the rest is mageweave and thread. Any enchanter who carries dust and essences around will buy one. Pattern: Enchanted Mageweave Pouch is sold by vendors.

The same kind of enchanting bag, but with 26 slots instead of 20. It needs Greater Eternal Essence (2), so it is easiest to make if you pair Tailoring with Enchanting.

An herb bag with 26 slots instead of 20. The pattern is sold by Mishta in Silithus at Friendly with the Cenarion Circle, and besides cloth the bag takes herbs: Purple Lotus (10) and Morrowgrain (8).

Soul PouchSkill 215+

A soul shard bag with 24 slots instead of 20, useful to any warlock. It takes 6 Bolts of Runecloth, Rugged Leather (4) and Ichor of Undeath (2). Pattern: Soul Pouch is sold by vendors.

Mooncloth and the December 9 raids

Three raids open on December 9: the 10-player Barrow Deeps, the 20-player Hyjal Summit, and the 40-player Onyxia's Lair. For a tailor that mostly means demand for Mooncloth, since a lot of level 60 recipes need it, almost all of the new ones included.

MoonclothSkill 230+

Only tailors can make it, at a moonwell: each one takes 2 Felcloth and puts you on a 95-hour cooldown, almost four days. Pattern: Mooncloth is sold in Winterspring (vendor Qia). In the client, Mooncloth goes into 61 recipes, almost all of them Tailoring: bags, robes, the Bottomless Bag (12 at once) and new level 60 items. The leveling route does without it, so all your Mooncloth can go to sales and your own gear. Every missed cooldown is Mooncloth you never get back, so make it as soon as the cooldown is up.

Robes of Fiery Devastation and other epicsSkill 300

New Forever recipes: besides the robes, there are Mana-infused Cord, Rime-encrusted Boots, Fel Cape and Cloak of Earth and Sky. These are level 60 epics that only bind when equipped, so you can sell them. The robes, for example, give 27 Stamina, 24 Intellect and up to 26 fire damage. They are crafted at a Loom, and besides Mooncloth and Runecloth they need Malleable Essence of Nature, which you get by disenchanting items from Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps. Where the patterns come from is still unknown.

Twenty slots, two more than in Classic, and you can sell it. It is an expensive job: 12 Mooncloth, Large Brilliant Shard (2), Pristine Scale and Pristine Hide (5 each), 8 Viridian Dye and a Loom. Pattern: Bottomless Bag drops from mobs.

A 30-slot soul shard bag for level 60 warlocks. It takes Felcloth (8) and 6 Bolts of Runecloth, and it is crafted at a Loom. Where the pattern comes from is also still unknown.

Where to train Tailoring and its ranks

Tailors in every capital and starting town teach Apprentice (up to 75), including two on Zephras Isle for both factions. Journeyman unlocks at skill 50 and character level 10, Expert at skill 125 and level 20, and Artisan at skill 200 and level 35. There's only one Expert trainer and one Artisan trainer per faction, so fit the trip in with your questing.

If a trainer has taught you everything they know, talk to them again, and Wowhead says they'll tell you who to see next.

Faction Banner, Spinning Wheel, and Loom

The camp is a new Forever system. At a campfire, each player can put down one item from their profession, and it gives a bonus to everyone sitting or working nearby. All camp items share a 1-hour cooldown. A tailor puts up their faction's banner, which raises Spirit by 14-32 but doesn't stack with the priest spell Divine Spirit.

You learn to make the Faction Banner at skill 20, either from the trainer for 1 silver or through the Camping 101: Tailoring quest, which every starting zone has. The Spinning Wheel and the Loom go where the banner was. They keep its bonus and unlock their own recipes on top of it.

The Spinning Wheel is a skill 140 item, and you need Blueprint: Spinning Wheel for it. Blizzard says blueprints for camp items of skill 140 and up drop in dungeons and raids, and Wowhead also lists this blueprint from vendors, though it's not clear yet exactly where. The Spinning Wheel is needed for 74 recipes, including caster sets from skill 125, a lot of Mooncloth items, and the Inferno Gloves the route uses for its last points, from 296 to 300. So by 296 you'll need a Spinning Wheel, your own or someone else's.

A tailor can only make the Loom at skill 300. It needs Blueprint: Loom, and its materials include Bottled Screams, and nobody knows yet where to get either one. The Loom is needed for 43 recipes, including the Bottomless Bag, the Belt of the Archmage, the new level 60 epics, and the patterns Mishta sells in Silithus for Cenarion Circle rep. Loom recipes aren't part of the leveling route, since a tailor can only place their own Loom at 300, when the skill is already maxed.

Your own sets and the new patterns

Tailoring's big feature in Forever is gear for yourself. From skill 35 the trainer teaches Novice Arcanist's Sash and Novice Ardent's Sash, blue belts for level 10, each made from Bolts of Linen Cloth, Fine Thread, and two potions. The first gives 3 Stamina, 3 Intellect, and up to 4 spell damage and healing, and takes Minor Mana Potion (2). The second gives Intellect, Spirit, and up to 6 healing, and takes Minor Healing Potion (2), which First Aid can make now too.

After that come six sets by school of magic, and the first pieces of each are in the table below. Patterns for the first set, skill 60 to 125, cost 30 Merchant's Favor and are sold by Mivin Shadowweave at the Alliance camp in Redridge Mountains and Jim'bek at the Horde camp in the Barrens. Wowhead says patterns for the Filigreed pieces of the same sets drop from dungeon bosses. The second set is made at a Spinning Wheel. The trainer teaches the slippers at skill 150, and the rest cost 60-90 Favor or have no known source yet. There are also Nether shoulders and cuffs at skill 195 and 205, 60 Favor each.

All of these items bind on pickup, so make them for yourself, because you can't sell them or pass them to an alt. Leveling your skill on them isn't worth it either, since the patterns cost Favor and the items need expensive materials like Cerulean Dye. How to earn Favor is in our Merchant's Favor guide.

There are rep patterns too. Vayn Moongaze on Zephras Isle sells patterns for Stormsewn gear for levels 5-7 at Friendly and Honored, and unlike the sets, those items can be sold. On Mount Hyjal, Aisarra Nightmeadow sells skill 300 patterns like Manaflare Pants, and they need the same Malleable Essence of Nature as the new epics.

The cloth, thread, and dyes you'll need

Cloth is your main expense. The route uses about 160 Linen Cloth, 650 Wool Cloth, 520 Silk Cloth, more than 300 Mageweave Cloth, and about 2800 Runecloth, and the last 48 points, from 252 to 300, eat almost three quarters of the Runecloth. Besides cloth you'll need Elixir of Wisdom (23, made by alchemists), Elemental Earth (8), Rugged Leather (148), and Ironweb Spider Silk (68), and for the last 19 points Felcloth (54), Demonic Rune (36), Essence of Fire (50), and Star Ruby (10). You can't buy the runes, since they bind on pickup, so you'll have to farm them yourself. Exact amounts for your stretch are in the list under the route.

Tailoring supply vendors sell thread and basic dyes: Coarse Thread, Fine Thread, Silken Thread, Heavy Silken Thread, Rune Thread, Red Dye, and Orange Dye. Their prices are fixed, but they add up. Over the whole route, thread and dyes come to about 78 gold, and 62 of that is 124 Rune Thread at 50 silver each. Forever's new dyes, Cerulean Dye, Magenta Dye, and Viridian Dye, aren't sold by vendors, and only alchemists make them. The route doesn't need them at all, but bags and sets need them constantly.

We don't list cloth prices. There are none before launch, and after that they'll change every day. As a rule, linen and wool drop from low-level humanoids and usually cost next to nothing, except in the first days after launch, when everyone's leveling professions at once. The end of the route costs the most. You need the most Runecloth there, and Felcloth and Essence of Fire are scarce on the market, especially while there aren't many high-level characters around.

Common mistakes

  • Selling the Runecloth you loot while leveling. The route uses about 2800 Runecloth, almost three quarters of it on the last 48 points. Put everything you loot in the bank, not on the Auction House.
  • Forgetting to train the next rank. At 75, 150, and 225 your skill hits the cap, and each new rank needs a character level: 10 for Journeyman, 20 for Expert, and 35 for Artisan.
  • Getting to the end without runes, the pattern, and a Spinning Wheel. The last 9 points need things the Auction House doesn't have. Demonic Rune (36 for the Felcloth Shoulders) and Pattern: Inferno Gloves bind on pickup, so you'll have to farm them yourself, and the gloves can only be made at a Spinning Wheel. Collect runes and hunt for the pattern early, and either get the wheel blueprint yourself or find out who in your guild has a wheel.
  • Missing your Mooncloth cooldown. You can make Mooncloth once every 95 hours, and unused cooldowns don't stack, so every hour it sits ready without being used is just gone. You need Mooncloth both to sell and for your own gear, so don't skip a single cooldown.
  • Crafting sets to sell. The level 10 belts and the school-of-magic sets bind on pickup. What you can sell is bags, Mooncloth, and items that only bind when equipped.
  • Learning everything the trainer has. There are plenty of recipes, but for leveling you only need the ones on the route. Learn the rest when you actually need the items.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to level Tailoring to 300 in WoW Forever?

Our route takes about 369 crafts. Training, ranks and bolt recipes included, costs about 9.9 gold, and 5 of that is Artisan. The two vendor patterns after 241 cost another 11.6 gold, 10 of it for the Runecloth Cuffs pattern, and the last three drop from mobs. Vendor thread and dyes add about 78 gold, and 62 of that is Rune Thread. The rest is cloth, leather, spider silk, Essence of Fire, rubies, and two drop patterns, and your realm's Auction House decides that part, so enter the prices in the calculator and it'll add up the total.

At what level can you get Tailoring to 300?

You can take it to 75 right away. Journeyman needs character level 10, Expert 20, and Artisan 35, so going by rank requirements alone you could have Tailoring at 300 by level 35. In practice the patterns get in the way. After 241 they're sold in Winterspring and on Mount Hyjal, which are a rough trip for a level 35. The last three patterns drop from mobs, and one of them, for Inferno Gloves, you'll have to farm yourself.

Which profession pairs best with Tailoring?

The classic pick is Enchanting, since you can disenchant what you make and sew your own enchanting bags. Cloth drops from humanoids, so a tailor barely needs a gathering profession, and Skinning would only help with the 148 Rugged Leather for the gloves and shoulders at the end of the route. If you don't want to buy dyes for the new bags and sets, take Alchemy. Only alchemists make those dyes, and you can make the 23 Elixirs of Wisdom for the route yourself too.

How do tailors make gold in WoW Forever?

Bags. Only a tailor makes a regular bag with more than 6 slots, and the enchanting, herb, and soul shard bags got bigger in Forever. At 60 there's Mooncloth, which a lot of level 60 recipes need, and the new epics, which you can sell. The caster sets are no good for selling, since they bind to you.

Where do you get the Spinning Wheel and Loom?

The Spinning Wheel is made from skill 140 with a blueprint that, according to Blizzard, drops in dungeons and raids. The route only needs it for the last 4 points, 296 to 300, because Inferno Gloves can only be made at a Spinning Wheel. The Loom can only be made at skill 300, and nobody knows yet where to get its blueprint, so the route has no Loom recipes. Wowhead says you can also craft at someone else's wheel or loom in a camp.

Where do you learn Artisan Tailoring in WoW Forever?

Alliance players learn it from Timothy Worthington on Theramore Isle in Dustwallow Marsh, and Horde players from Daryl Stack in Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills. You need skill 200, level 35, and 5 gold.

What is new for tailors in WoW Forever?

Caster sets for each school of magic, three camp items (the banner, the Spinning Wheel, and the Loom), new reagent bags, and bigger special bags. Runecloth and Mooncloth bags need alchemists' dyes now, and the Mooncloth Bag and the Bottomless Bag each got two more slots.
