New dungeon recipes in WoW Forever: which blueprints drop and who needs them

Updated 29 October 2026 · 13 min read · based on beta 1.60.1 and official news

If you're hoping Forever's new dungeons will drop epic patterns and rare formulas, better adjust your expectations right now. Not a single classic recipe moved there, and nobody found new item patterns or schematics in their loot on the beta. What they do drop is five tier 2 camp blueprints, and those are many times easier to get than blueprints of the same tier in the old dungeons. Here a blueprint drops roughly once every 10-15 boss kills, and there it's once every few hundred. Further down you'll find what drops and from whom, which profession needs it most, how many runs it'll take, and how not to lose a blueprint on the loot roll.

What drops for crafters in the new dungeons

Of the nine new dungeons, four were open on the beta: the Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Excavation Site: Wetlands, and City of Dalaran. The Hall of Thanes has nothing for crafters, but the other three drop blueprints that let you put an upgraded item in your camp. They're all green and don't bind, and you can learn any of them from skill 140 in the matching profession. A vendor pays next to nothing for a blueprint, so if you don't need one, put it on the Auction House.

The chances below come from the boss pages on Wowhead Forever, so they're beta stats, with each boss killed between 550 and 900 times. That's enough to go by, but the chances might be tweaked for launch.

Ruins of Lordaeron: the Fermenter and the Salvager from Rath'mael

Both blueprints in the Ruins drop from the same boss, Rath'mael, who stands in the middle of the dungeon in the Lordaeron Graveyard. You can kill the bosses in the Ruins in any order, so you can head straight there after you zone in. For the Horde this boss is also the target of the The Wrath of Rath'mael quest, so a Horde group won't skip the fight anyway. The chance of getting at least one of the two blueprints per run is about 14%, or roughly once every seven runs.

The Fermenter is an alchemist's tool, especially for one who makes dyes to sell. Without it you can't make five things: Shadow Oil, Frost Oil, Goblin Rocket Fuel, Ghost Dye, and Viridian Dye, which is new in Forever. Viridian Dye goes into 15 recipes in other professions, mostly tailoring, like Mooncloth bags, the Robe of the Archmage, and the Robe of the Void, plus enchanters' relics for Druids, Paladins, and Shamans. Ghost Dye goes into another 12 tailoring recipes. You don't need the Fermenter to level Alchemy itself, since the main route in our Alchemy guide gets by without it, so farm the blueprint for dyes to sell, not for skill.

The Arcane Salvager is for an enchanter who disenchants a lot. With the salvager, disenchanting gets more efficient, but Blizzard hasn't said by how much. There's a catch. You can learn the blueprint from skill 140, but building the salvager needs a Runed Truesilver Rod, and an enchanter can only make that rod from skill 200. So if the blueprint drops earlier, learn it right away and build the salvager once you hit 200. The second source of the same blueprint is Shade of the Archmage in City of Dalaran. The Ruins are on Horde land, so for an Alliance player it's easier to farm this blueprint in Dalaran.

Excavation Site: Wetlands, with the Greenhouse, the Rock Garden, and XP food

The Excavation Site is an open-air dungeon in the south of the Wetlands, and two different bosses drop blueprints there. Shadetooth is the nastiest boss in the dungeon. Two Thicket Hunters fight alongside it, it puts a bleed and a fear on you, and it enrages near the end of the fight. That's the boss that drops Blueprint: Greenhouse, so if you want the Greenhouse, you'll be doing this fight a lot. The last boss, Relic Guardian, drops Blueprint: Rock Garden.

The Greenhouse grows herbs from the seeds an herbalist finds while gathering: Commonplace Herb Seeds, Uncommon Herb Seeds, Unusual Herb Seeds, and Scarce Herb Seeds. Nobody knows yet which herbs grow from them or how many. Keep the reagents in mind too. The Greenhouse needs Arthas' Tears and Purple Lotus, and an herbalist only starts picking those at skill 210-220, so at 140 you'll have to buy them on the Auction House.

The Rock Garden grows an ore vein in your camp over time. Which ore and how often wasn't worked out on the beta, so for now this blueprint is more of a bet on the future than ready income. If you're a miner, learn it, and if you don't need Mining, put it on the Auction House.

The Horde can also get a recipe from a quest for the Excavation Site. In Orgrimmar, Borstan gives the quest Changing Tastes, and the reward is Recipe: Twice-Spiced Raptor Slice. The quest needs four pieces of raptor meat, which drop from Shadetooth and the raptors inside the Excavation Site. The finished dish, Twice-Spiced Raptor Slice, gives Well Fed with +3 Intellect and, like almost any Well Fed food in Forever, +5% XP from kills. The Alliance doesn't get any recipes from the Excavation Site quests.

City of Dalaran: the Spinning Wheel tailors keep coming back for

Blueprint: Spinning Wheel is the most wanted of all the new dungeon blueprints. Without a Spinning Wheel, a tailor can't make items from 74 recipes. That's the whole second caster set (recipes at skill 150-235), the leggings from the first set, Mooncloth and Dreamweave items, and most importantly Inferno Gloves, which our Tailoring route uses for the last points from 296 to 300. The second-to-last boss, Unstable Sentinel, drops the Spinning Wheel blueprint about once every ten runs. That's the best chance of any new blueprint.

The last boss, Shade of the Archmage, drops the same salvager blueprint as Rath'mael in the Ruins. Together with the Spinning Wheel, that gives you about a 16% chance of at least one blueprint per full Dalaran clear, while in the Ruins and the Excavation Site it's a bit lower, about 14%.

You can only get into Dalaran with the sewer key, and the quests for that key open at level 30. The Alliance picks them up in Southshore, and the Horde chain starts in Tarren Mill. Every step is in our dungeon quests tool.

Dungeons 35-60: probably where the real loot is

The other five new dungeons weren't open on the beta, and the game data has no loot for them at all. They're The Drowned City (35-40), Krol'dok Stronghold (40-45), Alcaz Prison (48-53), Blackmaw Hold (55-60), and Shaper's Terrace (58-60). In its camp article, Blizzard said just one thing, that items needing skill 140 or higher drop in dungeons and raids.

Nobody knows yet where Blueprint: Expert Campfire and eleven of the twelve tier 3 blueprints for skill 300 come from. Only one of them has a known drop spot, Blueprint: Trapper's Workbench, which drops in the Scarlet Monastery at 0.02%. So our careful guess is that if Blizzard sticks to what it wrote about the camp, a lot of these blueprints will turn up in the new 35-60 dungeons. That's a guess, not a fact, and we'll update this guide in the first weeks after launch. A separate note for tailors: nobody knows yet where the eighteen patterns for Filigreed robes, leggings, and circlets drop. Wowhead thinks dungeon bosses drop them, but they're not in the loot of the four open dungeons.

For comparison: blueprints and new recipes in the old dungeons

Tier 2 blueprints for the other professions stayed in the classic dungeons, and the chances there are a whole different story. In the new dungeons a blueprint drops once every 10-15 kills on average, but the Anvil blueprint that Gilnid drops is something half of all players won't see even in 300 kills. So for blacksmiths, leatherworkers, engineers, cooks, and the other professions in the table below, it's easier to buy your blueprint on the Auction House than to farm it yourself.

How many runs it takes and who gets the blueprint

Let's do the math. At a chance of about 10%, half of all players will get the Spinning Wheel blueprint within six or seven runs, and nine out of ten within twenty-one. For blueprints at about 7%, half of all players will need roughly 9-10 runs, and nine out of ten will need 28-34. Put simply, plan on 10 to 30 runs for your blueprint from a new dungeon, and the first of them will pile up on their own while you go there for quests.

The main loot rule is simple: agree on the blueprint before you go in, because it doesn't bind and can be sold. A fair way is for the player who has that profession and will actually place the item to click Need, while everyone else clicks Greed. If nobody in the group needs the blueprint for their own profession, roll on it like any other item, and the winner puts it on the Auction House.

  • Check your skill. The blueprint needs skill 140 in the profession, and at levels 15-20 in Ruins of Lordaeron, plenty of players aren't there yet. If the blueprint drops before you can learn it, don't rush to sell it. Keep it in the bank until you hit 140.
  • Check your faction. Ruins of Lordaeron is on Horde land, so the Alliance has an easier time farming the Arcane Salvager blueprint in Dalaran, and the Horde in the Ruins. Only the Horde gets the food recipe from the Excavation Site.
  • Farming on a level 60. At 60 you'll probably be able to solo the Ruins and the Excavation Site, but we haven't tested that yet. We also don't know if Forever will limit how many dungeons you can enter per hour, like Classic did.

What you can sell

The easiest thing to do with a spare blueprint is to put it on the Auction House, where a player with the same profession at 140 or higher who's had bad luck with drops will buy it. We expect the most demand for the Spinning Wheel and Fermenter blueprints. Every tailor leveling to 300 or crafting to sell needs a Spinning Wheel, and the Fermenter is for alchemists who make dyes for bags and level 60 items. Nobody knows Auction House prices before launch, so in the first days after launch, check what other players are listing these blueprints for.

You can hand a finished camp item to another player, but only someone with the matching profession at 140 can place it. How many items one craft gives and whether the item gets used up when you place it is still unclear, because the game data and Wowhead's guide disagree. We'll test after launch whether you can craft at someone else's Spinning Wheel or brew at someone else's Fermenter. Most likely you can, since in Classic any crafter nearby could work at an anvil and other stations like it.

Frequently asked questions

Do the new WoW Forever dungeons drop item patterns and schematics?

Not the four that were open on the beta. For crafters they only drop five tier 2 camp blueprints, and the Horde can also get a food recipe as a quest reward for the Excavation Site. What the 35-60 dungeons will give, we'll find out after launch.

Where do you get the Spinning Wheel in WoW Forever?

In City of Dalaran, from Unstable Sentinel, the dungeon's second-to-last boss. Beta data says the Spinning Wheel blueprint drops roughly once every ten runs. To get into Dalaran you need the sewer key, and the quests for that key open at level 30.

Can you buy camp blueprints from a vendor?

On the beta a test vendor sold them, but it most likely won't be there at launch. Count on dungeon drops or the Auction House, and since blueprints don't bind, you can buy them from other players.
