Leveling First Aid from 1 to 300 in WoW Forever takes about 390 crafts, and it's still a secondary profession, so it doesn't take a primary slot. The big change from Classic is that regular healing potions are made with First Aid now instead of Alchemy, so any character can keep their own stock. There are also new poultices for diseases, tourniquets for bleeds, and three camp items. Ranks unlock the same way as before. Expert comes from a book sold in Arathi Highlands and Dustwallow Marsh, and Artisan from a quest where you have to bandage the wounded in time. Here you'll find the step-by-step route, trainers and ranks, potions versus bandages, how to make gold, and the mistakes that cost time and gold.
Why First Aid is worth leveling in WoW Forever
First Aid is a secondary profession, like Cooking and Fishing. You take it on top of your two primary professions, and it doesn't cost you a slot. Bandages heal without mana, so they help classes with no healing of their own the most, like warriors, rogues, and hunters. The cloth drops from humanoids, so materials pile up on their own while you level.
In Forever the profession got a lot more useful, because regular healing potions are made with First Aid now. The trainer sells the
Minor Healing Potion recipe from the start,
Lesser Healing Potion from skill 55, and
Healing Potion from 110. Each potion takes one herb, spices, and a vial, so you don't have to hunt down an alchemist for potions anymore.
Besides potions and bandages, First Aid makes cures for poison, disease, and bleeding, plus a kit you set up at the campfire that gives Stamina to everyone sitting nearby. You don't need a gathering profession, but the route uses quite a few herbs. Up to 156 your skill comes mostly from potions, which take 84 Peacebloom, 15 Briarthorn, and 48 Bruiseweed. If you're an herbalist, your own potions only cost you the vial and the spices.
What changed in Forever First Aid
- Healing potions moved over from Alchemy. The whole line, from Minor to Major Healing Potion, belongs to First Aid now, and any character can make them. Alchemists got Discolored Healing Potions instead. They heal more, but 75% of the healing comes back as poison or disease, and the Alchemy guide has the details. How potions differ from bandages is covered further down.
- Poultices and tourniquets. Poultices cure diseases, tourniquets cure bleeds, and there's one more anti-venom, for poisons up to level 45. Any character can use them, so you don't need First Aid yourself. More on cures.
- Camp items. There are three:
First Aid Kit at skill 20,
Toxin Study at 140, and
Plague Doctor's Laboratory at 300. The kit gives Stamina to everyone sitting at the campfire, and going by their tooltips, the other two hold potions as well. More on the camp. - Ranks unlock the same way as before. Trainers teach Apprentice and Journeyman, a book teaches Expert, and a quest gives Artisan. Where to get each one is in the ranks section.
- Legacy. Wowhead doesn't show any Legacy quests for First Aid yet. The professions branch does have three useful perks, though.
Working Overtime adds up to 20% to your skill-up chance,
Dedicated Study raises your lowest profession by 1 point once every 23 hours, and
Field Medicine cuts Recently Bandaged by 5 seconds per rank, except in dungeons, raids, and battlegrounds.
First Aid leveling route 1-300
The route is built from the beta client data. It takes trainer recipes first, and manuals only where the trainer has nothing left that still gives points reliably. Craft counts are averages. While a recipe is orange or yellow you get a point almost every time, but as it nears green you might need a couple of extra crafts, so bring spare materials. It comes to about 390 crafts in total, and the trainer recipes and ranks on the route cost 69 silver.
Up to 156, potions and poultices from the trainer carry you. The trainer sells
Minor Healing Potion from the start, and it takes you to 76 in 84 crafts, each needing
Peacebloom,
Empty Vial, and
Mild Spices. From 76 to 90 you make
Lesser Healing Potion, 15 crafts with
Briarthorn as the herb and two spices per potion. From 90 to 117 it's
Simple Poultice, 34 crafts that each need
Spider Ichor,
Mild Spices, and
Bottle of Dalaran Noir. From 117 to 156,
Healing Potion carries you, and 48 potions need 48 each of
Bruiseweed,
Hot Spices, and
Leaded Vial. The potions won't go to waste, since you can drink them or sell them.
From 156 to 181 you make
Silk Bandage, learned from the trainer for 50 silver, at 37 crafts and one silk each. From 181 to 191 it's
Clever Poultice, the only recipe on the route whose manual drops from mobs. That's 18 crafts, each needing
Murloc Fin,
Soothing Spices, and
Thunder Ale. Each craft makes three poultices, so along the way you'll end up with 102 Simple and 54 Clever Poultices.
Manual: Clever Poultice doesn't bind, so you can buy it on the Auction House, but it's a rare drop. Wowhead says Defias Brotherhood enchanters drop it roughly once in three hundred kills.
At 150 you hit the Journeyman cap, so buy the
Expert First Aid - Under Wraps book ahead of time. You can read it from skill 125. The same vendors sell
Manual: Heavy Silk Bandage and
Manual: Mageweave Bandage, which you'll need at 180 and 210. From 191 to 210 you make
Heavy Silk Bandage from 60 silk, and from 210 to 240
Mageweave Bandage from 42 mageweave. At 225 your skill stops until you turn in the Artisan quest, and that needs level 35. Level your character ahead of time, or you'll stall mid-stretch.
The last 60 points come from three bandages:
Heavy Mageweave Bandage to 260,
Runecloth Bandage to 291, and
Heavy Runecloth Bandage to 300. They take another 50 mageweave and 64 runecloth. To be upfront, these three recipes have no source in Forever's data. In Classic the First Aid trainers taught them, and the route assumes that hasn't changed, but there's no way to confirm it until launch.
If you're missing a recipe or want to price the route for your realm, open it in the calculator. You can start from your current skill, take a recipe out, and pick the cheapest or the fastest path.

Auction House prices are not listed: Forever has no Auction House yet, and once it opens prices will change every day. Enter your server's prices in the calculator and it will add up the cost. Craft counts are averages: on yellow and green recipes not every craft gives a point. Data: the Forever beta and Wowhead, to be rechecked after release.
Making gold with First Aid in WoW Forever
The route above levels your skill, not your wallet, although the nearly 150 healing potions it makes will come in handy. First Aid makes money from potions and manuals. Everyone drinks potions, and manuals are either sold far away or drop rarely. Bandages barely sell, and the warning below explains why.
You won't find Auction House prices here, and we're not adding any. The beta was capped at level 30, so nobody has seen real level 60 prices yet, and after launch your realm's Auction House will show them. Before you craft a batch to sell, compare the price of the finished potion with the price of its herb.
Healing potions: everyone drinks them
In Forever, healing potions are made with First Aid, and any character can level it, so there'll be plenty of people selling the simple ones. Vials and spices cost everyone the same at the vendor, so whoever has their own herbs keeps more. The stronger the potion, the rarer its recipe and the fewer people you're competing with.
Restores 280-360 health and can be used from level 12. The recipe costs 8 silver at the trainer, and the route itself makes 48 of these potions. Alchemists no longer make regular healing potions, so anyone who does not level First Aid has to turn to the Auction House. The profit goes to whoever gathers their own
Bruiseweed: the vial and the spices cost 40 copper each at the vendor.
455-585 health, from level 21. According to Wowhead,
Manual: Greater Healing Potion drops from Syndicate mercenaries, less often than once in three thousand kills, and trainers do not teach it, so few people will be making this potion. The manual does not bind, so you can buy it, and the herb for the potion is
Liferoot.
700-900 health, from level 35. Where to get
Manual: Superior Healing Potion is still unknown: Forever's data lists no source for it. If you find one, you will have little competition. The herb is
Sungrass, and the vial is a
Crystal Vial for 5 silver.
1050-1750 health, from level 45. This is the potion people drink in battlegrounds and raids, and on December 9 the 10-player Barrow Deeps, the 20-player Hyjal Summit and the 40-player Onyxia's Lair open. Pexmit, a rare demon on Mount Hyjal, sells
Manual: Major Healing Potion for 8 gold, so at first not everyone will have the recipe. Besides the herb,
Golden Sansam, each potion takes a
Crystal Vial and three
Soothing Spices.
Manuals: the Expert book and rare recipes
First Aid manuals don't bind, so you can resell them. The demand is easy to see. Everyone taking the profession past 150 needs the book, and anyone who makes strong potions or follows our route wants the rare manuals.
Without this book your skill stops at 150, and only two vendors sell it: Deneb Walker in Stromgarde Keep (Arathi Highlands) and Balai Lok'Wein in Brackenwall Village (Dustwallow Marsh), for 1 gold. For someone leveling First Aid at level 20-30 that is a long trip, and some players will buy the book on the Auction House. If you are in the area, pick up a few. The same vendors sell
Manual: Heavy Silk Bandage and
Manual: Mageweave Bandage, which resell the same way.
Pexmit is not always up on Mount Hyjal, and the manual does not bind. If you buy a spare copy for 8 gold, players who missed the demon will buy it from you; it can be read from skill 275.
Manual: Strong Anti-Venom,
Manual: Clever Poultice,
Manual: Greater Healing Potion and
Manual: Potent Anti-Venom drop from mobs, and according to Wowhead the last three drop less than 1% of the time. Do not vendor them: the second one is on our route, and the others teach anti-venoms and a strong healing potion, so everyone leveling the profession is looking for them.
Where to train First Aid and its ranks
First Aid trainers in the capitals and in towns near the starting zones teach Apprentice and Journeyman, and Journeyman unlocks at skill 50 and character level 10. After that, trainers can't help you. Expert (up to 225) comes from a book and Artisan (up to 300) from a quest. Zephras Isle has trainers for both factions, Naleeia Tattermend in Shen'dar Village and Melasa Fairmend in Valanaar.
The
Expert First Aid - Under Wraps book is only sold in two places, and both are far from the starting zones. If it's too early for that trip, buy the book on the Auction House, since it doesn't bind.
The Artisan quest opens at level 35 and skill 225. They hand you bandages for the test on the spot, and then you have to save 15 wounded soldiers before 6 of them die. Order matters. Do the critically injured first, then the badly injured, because the lightly injured hold out the longest. Nissa Firestone in Ironforge gives the quest Alliance Trauma, and Arnok in Orgrimmar gives Horde Trauma, but these quests only send you to the doctor, so you can skip them.
| Rank | Requirements | Cost | Alliance | Horde |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice, up to 75 | From the start | 1s | Shaina Fuller in Stormwind, Nissa Firestone in Ironforge, Dannelor in Darnassus, Michelle Belle in Goldshire (Elwynn Forest), Thamner Pol in Kharanos (Dun Morogh), Byancie in Dolanaar (Teldrassil), Fremal Doohickey in Menethil Harbor (Wetlands), Angelique Butler in Dalaran (Alterac Mountains) | Arnok in Orgrimmar, Mary Edras in Undercity, Pand Stonebinder in Thunder Bluff, Rawrk in Razor Hill (Durotar), Nurse Neela in Brill (Tirisfal Glades), Vira Younghoof in Bloodhoof Village (Mulgore) |

Healing potions or bandages: which to use
Bandages and potions heal differently. A bandage restores health over time.
Linen Bandage heals 66 over 6 seconds, and
Heavy Runecloth Bandage heals 2000 over 8 seconds. After bandaging you get Recently Bandaged, and you have to wait for it to wear off before the next bandage. The main limit is skill. To use
Heavy Runecloth Bandage you need 225 First Aid, and without the profession you can't use a bandage at all.
A potion heals instantly and only needs a character level, so you don't need First Aid to drink one. All healing potions share a 2-minute cooldown and stack to 5. So you keep potions for emergencies in combat, and bandages are free healing from cloth you loot anyway.
Each potion is made from one herb, spices, and a vial. Vendors sell the vials (
Empty Vial,
Leaded Vial, and
Crystal Vial) and spices, and the herb is either your own or from the Auction House. The trainer teaches the first three recipes, and the rest come from manuals.
The best bandage in the game is
Dense Runecloth Bandage, at 3400 health over 8 seconds, and it needs level 50 and skill 300. It's made from two Heavy Runecloth Bandages. Wowhead says vendors sell
Manual: Dense Runecloth Bandage, but we haven't found where yet.

Anti-venoms, poultices, and tourniquets
These items remove poison, disease, or bleeding from the target. Any character can use them, even without First Aid. The one exception is
Powerful Anti-Venom, which needs skill 300. They all have a 1-minute cooldown, and poultices and tourniquets don't work in combat, so you'll have to patch yourself up after the fight.
One craft makes three anti-venoms or three poultices, but only one tourniquet. The trainer sells the first recipe in each line, and after that it's manuals. Some drop from mobs, and some have no source in Forever's data yet. Tourniquets are new in Forever, since First Aid had no cure for bleeding before. How much people will want these cures, we'll only see after launch.
Poultices are made from mob loot, spices, and drinks.
Simple Poultice, for example, takes
Spider Ichor,
Mild Spices, and
Bottle of Dalaran Noir. Tourniquets are made from cloth or leather plus thread, and anti-venoms from venom sacs.

First Aid Kit, Toxin Study, and Plague Doctor's Laboratory
Camping is a new Forever system. At a campfire, each player can set up one item from their profession, and it gives a bonus to everyone who sits or works nearby. First Aid sets up a kit, which adds 3 to 56 Stamina depending on level but doesn't stack with the priest spell
Power Word: Fortitude. All camp items share a 1-hour cooldown.
You learn to make the
First Aid Kit at skill 20, either from the trainer for 1 silver or through the quest Camping 101: First Aid, which every starting zone has. The kit takes three Linen Bandages and a
Refreshing Spring Water.
The
Toxin Study unlocks at skill 140 and needs
Blueprint: Toxin Study. Wowhead says the blueprint drops in Shadowfang Keep from Commander Springvale, but rarely, about once in three hundred kills. Wowhead also lists a vendor for the blueprint, just not which one. The Toxin Study replaces the kit. You keep the kit's bonus, and the tooltip says it holds healing potions and anti-venoms too. How that works in the game isn't clear yet, and Wowhead marks the effect as unconfirmed as well.
The
Plague Doctor's Laboratory unlocks at skill 300 and needs
Blueprint: Plague Doctor's Laboratory, and nobody knows yet where that comes from. The laboratory's tooltip lists healing potions and poultices along with the kit's bonus. It takes 5 Heavy Runecloth Bandages, and that recipe has no source in Forever's data either. There's more on that in the route section.
All three items can be traded to other players, but only someone with enough First Aid skill can set one up.
| Item | Skill | Effect | Reagents |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | Stamina for everyone sitting at the campfire | ||
| 140 | Kit bonus, plus healing potions and anti-venoms | ||
| 300 | Kit bonus, plus healing potions and poultices |
The cloth, herbs, and spices you'll need
Cloth is the main expense. The route uses 97 silk, 92 mageweave, and 64 runecloth, and no linen or wool at all. It all drops from humanoids, so you'll loot most of it yourself while leveling.
Besides cloth you need herbs, mob loot, and drinks. The healing potions take
Peacebloom (84),
Briarthorn (15), and
Bruiseweed (48). Simple Poultices take
Spider Ichor and
Bottle of Dalaran Noir, 34 of each, and Clever Poultices take
Murloc Fin and
Thunder Ale, 18 of each.
Vendors sell vials and spices at a fixed price.
Empty Vial costs 4 copper,
Mild Spices 2 copper,
Leaded Vial and
Hot Spices 40 copper each, and
Soothing Spices 1 silver 60 copper. Vials and spices for the whole route come to about 75 silver.
We don't list cloth and herb prices. There are none before launch, and after that they'll change every day. As a rule, Peacebloom and Briarthorn grow in low-level zones and are usually cheap, except in the first few days after launch, when everyone's leveling professions at once. The priciest parts will be the runecloth at the end of the route and the Clever Poultice manual, if you buy it on the Auction House.
Common mistakes
- Hitting 150 without the book. Trainers don't teach Expert, and the book is only sold in Arathi Highlands and Dustwallow Marsh. Buy it early, since you can read it from skill 125.
- Forgetting the quest at 225. Artisan only comes from a quest, and it needs level 35. If your character is lower, your skill stops at 225.
- Vendoring manuals. Mob-drop manuals are rare and don't bind, and one of them is on our route. Players will buy them on the Auction House, while a vendor pays a few copper.
- Crafting bandages to sell. Only players with First Aid can use bandages, and they usually make their own. Potions sell better, since anyone can drink them.
- Mixing up anti-venoms. Strong, Potent, and Powerful Anti-Venom sound alike but cure poisons of different levels. Check the level in the tooltip before you buy.
- Buying everything the trainer has. You don't need the trainer's anti-venom and tourniquet for leveling. Learn what the route uses, and the rest when you actually need those cures.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to level First Aid to 300 in WoW Forever?
Our route takes about 390 crafts. Trainer recipes and ranks cost 69 silver, the Expert book 1 gold, and the two manuals for Heavy Silk and Mageweave Bandages another 72 silver. Vials and spices from vendors add about 75 silver. The rest is cloth, herbs, Spider Ichor, Dalaran Noir, Murloc Fins, Thunder Ale, and the Clever Poultice manual, and your realm's Auction House decides that part. We don't know yet what the last three bandages will cost, since they have no source in Forever's data.
Where do you buy Expert First Aid - Under Wraps in WoW Forever?
Alliance players buy it from Deneb Walker in Stromgarde Keep (Arathi Highlands), and Horde players from Balai Lok'Wein in Brackenwall Village (Dustwallow Marsh). It costs 1 gold, and you can read it from skill 125. The book doesn't bind, so you can buy it on the Auction House too.
How do you get Artisan First Aid in WoW Forever?
Do the quest where you bandage wounded soldiers. It needs skill 225 and level 35. Alliance players get it from Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen on Theramore Isle in Dustwallow Marsh, and Horde players from Doctor Gregory Victor in Hammerfall, Arathi Highlands. You have to save 15 wounded before 6 die, so do the critically injured first, then the badly injured, and only then the rest. They give you the bandages for the test.
Why does First Aid make healing potions in Forever?
In Forever they moved from Alchemy to First Aid, so any character can make healing potions now. The trainer sells the Minor Healing Potion recipe from the start, Lesser from skill 55, and the regular Healing Potion from 110, and you learn the stronger ones from manuals. Alchemists make Discolored Healing Potions instead. Those heal more, but 75% of the healing comes back as poison or disease.
Which is better: bandages or healing potions?
They go together. A potion heals instantly and works in combat, but it has a 2-minute cooldown. A bandage heals over time and costs almost nothing if the cloth is yours, but afterward you have to wait for Recently Bandaged to wear off, and you can't use one without First Aid skill. Most people save potions for emergencies and bandage up between fights.
Where do you learn Major Healing Potion in WoW Forever?
The manual is sold by Pexmit, a rare demon on Mount Hyjal, for 8 gold. It needs skill 275, and you can drink the potion from level 45. The manual doesn't bind, so if you missed the demon, you can buy it on the Auction House.
At what level can you get First Aid to 300?
The Artisan quest needs level 35, so you can't hit 300 before that. In practice it'll be later. Both the Expert book and the Artisan quest are in Arathi Highlands and Dustwallow Marsh, and the runecloth for the last bandages drops from high-level humanoids.
