Merchant's Favor is a new WoW Forever currency. It buys profession recipes, a pet, a tabard, and a pack kodo. You earn it from crates: from level 10, put one set of materials into a Waylaid crate and turn it in at your trading company's camp for 5–30 Favor at a time. The Horde's Durotar Supply and Logistics camp is just outside the Crossroads' western gate in the Barrens; the Alliance's Azeroth Commerce Authority camp is in southwestern Redridge Mountains. Better recipes also require company reputation, earned through work orders.
What is Merchant's Favor in WoW Forever?
It is a currency that did not exist in original Classic. Spend it at your company's vendors on recipes for seven professions, title certificates, a pet, a tabard, and a pack kodo.
Your company has two separate progression tracks, and they are easy to confuse. Crate turn-ins award Favor; work orders award reputation. Many recipes require both: without Friendly reputation, vendors will not sell them to you, however much currency you have.
There is a one-time bonus per character. If a Shipping Label appears in your bags, take it to the camp: the quest of the same name awards 50 Favor and 2000 reputation. You only get that once; an ordinary crate gives 5–30.
Where is the trading company camp?
Horde. The Durotar Supply and Logistics camp is just outside the Crossroads' western gate in the Barrens. Dokimi accepts crates (50.1, 29.3).
Alliance. The Azeroth Commerce Authority camp is in southwestern Redridge Mountains, at the junction where the roads lead to Elwynn Forest and Duskwood. Marcy Baker accepts crates (9.7, 71).
The same camp has recipe vendors, a scribe, a rewards vendor, and an auctioneer. See the vendors section below for their locations.
How to turn in your first crate
- Reach level 10: you cannot open a crate before then.
- Find a Waylaid crate. They turn up while playing, and are also sold on the Auction House.
- Read the crate tooltip for the list of material sets. You need any one set, such as 20 Copper Ore or 20 Tin Ore, not everything listed.
- Gather or buy that set and fill the crate. You do not need a profession; ready-made materials work.
- Take the sealed crate to your company's turn-in NPC. You receive Favor and a little silver immediately.
- Find your profession's vendor and choose a recipe. Before buying, check its skill and reputation requirements.
How much Favor do crates award?
The crate's rank and contents determine the payout. Raw-material crates—herbs, ore, cloth and leather, dust and shards—are white-quality and award less. Crates of bars, bolts of cloth, cured hides, and engineering parts are green-quality and award twice as much.
| Crate rank | Level | White: raw materials | Green: bars, bolts, parts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | 10 | 5 Favor and 2.5 silver | 10 Favor and 5 silver |
| Journeyman | 10 | 10 Favor and 5 silver | 20 Favor and 10 silver |
| Expert | 20 | 15 Favor and 7.5 silver | 30 Favor and 15 silver |
| Artisan | 35 | Not yet known | Not yet known |
Where these figures come from
Players have turned in many Apprentice and Journeyman crates, and their figures agree. There are only a couple of reports for Expert crates, so treat those figures as approximate. Artisan crates require level 35, while the beta caps at 30, so nobody has turned them in there.
The
Performance Bonus Legacy perk has a 5%, 10%, or 15% chance, depending on rank, to double the Favor from a crate. It is random: at rank three, the average gain is +15%, not a guaranteed doubling. Do not count on the bonus when calculating how many crates you need for a recipe. Find the perk in the Legacy calculator.
Which crates are worth buying on the Auction House?
An empty crate costs very little on the Auction House, so look at the total cost: the crate plus one set of materials. Divide that by the Favor awarded to find your cost per Favor.
An example using made-up prices: a white Apprentice crate for 3 silver plus materials for 27 costs 30 silver for 5 Favor, or 6 silver each. A green Journeyman crate for 12 silver plus materials for 68 costs 80 silver for 20 Favor, or 4 silver each. The second costs more overall, but its Favor is cheaper. Prices on your realm will be different.
Calculate the cost of the entire set, not just the first listing. The cheapest materials often cover only one crate; the next 20 items cost more.
Materials already in your bags are not free either: you could have sold them. Work out whether filling a crate or listing the materials on the Auction House is the better deal.
Addons that do the calculations
Doing the math manually takes time, and two addons are already available for Forever. We have not tested them yet, so check their recommendations against the crate tooltip before making a large purchase.
- Merchant’s Favor Optimizer (/mfo) compares crates and orders, checks your bags and bank, builds a shopping list, and suggests what is cheaper to craft yourself. It uses prices from Auctionator, TSM, or Auctioneer.
- Waylaid Auction Helper (/wh) selects crates and material sets for your target amount of Favor, accounting for listings becoming more expensive as the cheapest ones are bought out.
How do you earn trading company reputation?
Work orders, such as
Sealed Journeyman's Writ, award reputation. Open the envelope and read which item is needed and who wants it. Craft or buy the item and deliver it to the customer. The customer is somewhere in the world, not at the camp. You do not need the profession yourself, and you must keep the order in your bags until you turn it in.
Each specific order can be turned in once a day, while different orders have no shared limit. Do not buy a stack of identical orders. An order may have a timer: plan the trip before opening the envelope.
| Order | Reputation |
|---|---|
| Journeyman | 75 |
| Expert | 125 |
| Artisan | 200 |
How much reputation do you need?
These totals start at the beginning of Neutral, without bonuses. Shipping Label immediately gives 2000 reputation, leaving 1000 to reach Friendly: that is 14 Journeyman orders over several days.
| Standing | Total reputation | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Friendly | 3000 | Some recipes and the receipt sold by the scribe |
| Honored | 9000 | The scribe's quill, an advertising license application, and expensive recipes |
| Revered | 21 000 | Packmule Treat |
| Exalted | 42 000 | Tabard and pack kodo |
After Friendly: the receipt and quill
The scribe—Kurvelk Shadowhoof for Horde, Dianne Softstep for Alliance—sells
Forged Delivery Receipt for 15 Favor. Attach it to an empty Waylaid crate and turn it in as a Notarized Shipping Container for 50 reputation and 1 silver. Do not fill the crate: it must be empty.
This is expensive: 1000 reputation costs 20 empty crates and 300 Favor. If you are saving for recipes, work orders are usually better value.
At Honored, the scribe sells
Forger's Quill for 15 Favor. It changes an order into a random order of the same rank. A good result is not guaranteed, so do not rewrite cheap orders needlessly.
Where are the recipe vendors?
The camp has one vendor for each profession with recipes. Mining, Herbalism, Skinning, Fishing, and First Aid do not have their own vendors.

The turn-in NPC, scribe, and other vendors
These NPCs are outside the circle of profession vendors and are easy to miss. Dianne Softstep stands south of the camp, by the road to Duskwood. Kurvelk Shadowhoof is just beyond the camp, behind the forge between the trees. Gishah is by the crates next to the kodo, near the road to Stonetalon Mountains.

What should you spend your first Favor on?
Choose a recipe for your profession that improves a weak gear slot. Many new rare items from these recipes bind when crafted: you can make them for yourself, but not to sell. Check the reagents before buying too: some recipes are cheap, while the finished item is expensive to make.
The examples below are not the full inventory. A dash in the reputation column means the recipe has no separate reputation requirement.
| Profession | Recipe | Skill | Favor | Reputation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alchemy | 75 | 45 | - | |
| Alchemy | 165 | 120 | Friendly | |
| Blacksmithing | 95 | 30 | - | |

| Tailoring | 190 | 60 | Friendly |
Kodo, mule, and tabard: other rewards
The kodo is a long-term goal: besides 6000 Favor, you need level 60 and the second riding rank. Certificates are available for six professions: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, and Tailoring. The title unlocks for all your characters, but only one with the profession at skill 300 can use it.
| Reward | Favor | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| 6000 | Exalted, level 60, and Journeyman Riding. The mount is account-wide | |
| 1500 | Revered. Awards the mini mule pet | |
| 1200 | Honored. Grants a profession advertising sign through a quest | |
| 200 | Exalted. Alliance players have seen an additional price of 5 gold | |
| Profession certificates, such as | 1000 | Profession skill 300. Unlocks an account-wide title |
What goes in each crate: all 30 crates
Each row lists alternative sets: provide any one of them. Quantities mean individual items, not stacks. Contents were checked against Wowhead crate tooltips on October 16.
Common mistakes
If a crate will not accept the correct material, combine it into one stack and check the exact name. During the beta, Blizzard acknowledged bugs with quantities larger than a stack and with an Apprentice curiosities crate incorrectly accepting magic essence.
- Treating the 50 Favor from Shipping Label as the reward for every crate. It is a one-time bonus.
- Saving currency for a recipe and forgetting its reputation requirement.
- Buying a cheap crate without checking the cost of its contents.
- Confusing ore with bars, cloth with bolts, or leather with cured hides.
- Putting everything from the list into a crate: you only need one set.
- Buying a recipe to sell the crafted items without checking whether they bind on pickup.
- Treating the Legacy doubling bonus as guaranteed.
- Buying identical orders in bulk: each specific order can be turned in once a day.
